Sidenote: There's a reason a lot of drivers ask for the ticket instead of a warning. Written warnings still affect our driving records, csa score, etc. for a commercial license. The thing is, we can't fight a warning. We can fight a ticket though.

I got pulled over for a roadside inspection. I was polite and asked if we could at least go onto a ramp area for to be a bit further away from travel lane. DOT was polite but said no. When he asked for trailer papers I said they were in the little box by landing gear and he actually got it out himself when he saw I was reluctant to get out.

It's called personal conveyance. It's on all electronic logs. You even can put it into a paper log. You are allowed to use PC leaving a shipper or delivery if you've been held up and out of time.

He’s an adult and a police officer, he doesn’t need the driver to keep going and find a place that HE thinks is good and stop there. When a cop lights you up, it doesn’t mean “hey when you fee” like you’re ready, go ahead n pick a nice spot that you find suitable to pull over, k?” No, it mean# friggin immediately pull over to the right side in a safe manner. You’re getting stopped. Trying to be defiant or thinking you’re gonna make him wait to show him he doesn’t control you cuz he ain’t your father and you’re gonna pull over where you choose to and he can just wait might make you feel like you’re not gonna be pushed around and blah blah blah, but you’re not doing yourself any favors because you’re just making that cop think you’re up to something and something is probably about to go down, s9 you’re putting him on edge for no reason. Most of the time when a car won’t stop it’s not so good people either coming up with a plan to get away, what they’re gonna do if he runs the passenger for warrants, or somebody’s stashing drugs or a gun or getting ready to use one, etc. Not good things happen when somebody clearly sees a cop lighting them up and keeps driving, especially if they keep driving for several minutes. And that cop wasn’t freaking out, he didn’t come up screaming at put his gun to his head, he didn’t pull him out with felony stop procedures but y’all are all acting like he did all of that and more. If you expect cops to just be super friendly and let people do whatever they want and cops just have to be patient and do as their told and only take police action with rich people who are happy to be pulled over by them whenever as long as it’s not too inconvenient and everyone else they have to get citizen approval prior to any additional contact and then wait for the citizen to tell them when and where it’s ok as long as they don’t hurt anyone’s feelings or make them feel accused of wrongdoing because you’ve watched too damn many RUclips videos and think the way it should be is that the people always scream at and insult the police and tell them what the6 can and can’t do because they’re lowly public servants, you might as well go ahead n get rid of all cops at once. What did he do that was wrong? He had every right to think that the truck driver didn't see him or was running. 3 miles is a long fucking way with blue lights behind you. I went an extra 200 feet to turn into a side street with hazard lights on, turned into a side street and the cop asked me why I didn't stop immediately. I used the same reasoning, officer safety. Now the only thing the officer could have done to be the "cool cop" would be not writing him a ticket for failing to stop. Driver didn't get arrested, shot at. Gun stayed in the holster, hand away and everything. He even let the driver go on about why he kept driving. Wasnt screaming at the driver. So what was unprofessional about this stop?!

Last a cop pulled my friend over, He drove bout a mile when he stopped officer said good job for stopping in a safe place u good to go.
Well the issue is cops shouldn’t even be trying to pull trucks, or anyone, in an unsafe place. They need to follow to a safe place, then activate their lights and pull them over. This is a failure of police training and police ego.

Man I had this same conversation with a cop once, tried pulling over into a parking lot instead of the busy intersection and he was so butthurt that I drove an extra 50ft.
I was getting pulled over one time I didn't think it was a safe spot so I pulled off the freeway on the off-ramp officer asked me why did that I told him why he thanked me for it and let me go

I’ve gotten yelled by a cop for not pulling over in a bike lane on a busy street. I thought I was right but I didn’t try arguing with him about it and it pissed him off more. I ran into him on his worst day
We are told to turn on flashers and find a safe area. Then they turn around and do this.. let's make up our mind about what we are to do!

Listen guys, don’t do any favors. You think you’re doing the right thing but you’re not. Most officers aren’t going to thank you and be ok with you going a mile or 3 down the road after being lit up. They’ll view it as suspicious behavior and the interaction starts off on a bad foot. If the officer didn’t think it was safe, he would either wait to light you up or give you commands to pull elsewhere. When you see lights in the rear view, just pull over immediately if that’s your states law. Some states have laws that say you are actually allowed to slow to 20 miles under the limit, turn your 4 ways on and go to a safe, well lit area. Know your local and state laws.

I did this exact same thing on a two lane highway with 2” shoulders that dropped off sharply. My concern was for the officers safety so I went to a farmers access side track. He wasn’t impressed with me either but didn’t give me any additional tickets.

I did that. Company got written up to fix it. And even though I pulled over far enough, he was still crying about his safety. If they are worried about their safety then don't pull us over on busy highways.

He's wrong, of course every pig thinks they have complete authority over everything u do, but ur allowed to slow down and find a safe place to pull over, not for his safety but for yours!!!

I was on twolys in Arkansas one night, going a little fast. Met an AHP, and he turned and had to follow 10 miles before we pulled over. I wasn't about to stop on that narrow road and even narrower shoulder. He thanked me for my good judgment.
