Weirdly enough, I've actually seen more autism-related channels run by late diagnosed women than any other demographic in the adult autism community. Guys generally aren't doing autism content: they're doing special interest content if they're on RUclips at all. People with early diagnoses haven't had the "my whole life makes sense now" moment that later diagnosed folks have, because they learned about autism early, so they seem to be somewhat less likely to get involved in advocacy.
I was nonverbal until I was 5-6 years old. I went to a school called the Blueberry Treatment Center for schizophrenic and autistic children in the 1980s. If it wasn't for Blueberry Treatment Center teacher Rachel Beldock, I wouldn't be as verbal and talkative as I am now at age 40. I'm glad to see Mikko progressing so well❤
Good for you...glad you had professional help. I hear so many parents say how schooling help their non verbal child. Parents don't realize how they hold their kids back when they try to do everything on their own.
@@lynwil2286 Unfortunately a school like the one I used to go to for autistic and schizophrenic children no longer exists. The State of New York cut funding for my school program in 1990 and by 1992 the program ended for good. Look up Mira Rothenberg, the creator of the Blueberry Treatment Centers and you'll understand why I said this. Schooling to help an autistic person does help, but it can't be regular schooling unless those teachers are trained in how to deal with autistic children. I can say this with certainty because of more than 30 years of seeing autistic children fall through the cracks due to an improper treatment plan (or nothing at all). At least Mikko's parents are doing something which is gaining results. I would advise her going to outside treatment when she is older, that is specifically catered to Mikko's special needs.
I think sometimes she knows more than she would have us believe. Just watching the way she reacts to certain situations I think there’s a lot that she’s processing in her own mind that she’s not able to express. At least that’s my take.
@@wendysnyder6443 Absolutely! One factor in being nonverbal and autistic is dyspraxia, a disconnect between the body and brain leading to things like clumsiness and low muscle tone. Maybe Mikko lacked full control over her mouth muscles before, but now that she's gotten older and more used to her body, she can try them out. AAC could help her express herself better.
✨️Mikko's eye contact about "baking" was so intense! Amazing. Love their channel and content! (I worked for 30 years in group homes and summer camps with adults who experience developmental challenges, including Autism.) This family is so lovely. 💜✨️
Thinking forward, Mikko learning ASL now may open the door to future employment for her as an interpreter. She will continue to engage and mature and blossom as an adorable, beautiful little girl!
I am a retired teacher and have taught many children with autism. I have never seen what parents do at home... and what you are doing is just astounding. Keep up the good work.. will be praying for you!
My brother is autistic, he didn't talk 'til he was 7 years old. When he started, we couldn't stop him. He is very intelligent. He's smarter than most ppl (book-wise), including some of the teachers. Don't sweat the small stuff, take your time. My brother talked gibberish as well. The gibberish will soon turn into words. She will be just fine!
I have faith Mikko will be talking. My 4 yr old daughter sounded exactly how Mikko does when she would talk. Since she's been receiving speech and ABA therapy her talking has improved a whole lot. She still has her moments where she babbles and it's a struggle to understand, but not as much as it was before.
@chilltarts no your not being impatient at all. My daughter's pediatrician kept dismissing my concerns ever since my daughter was 1 1/2 years old and I suspected she had autism. I ended up going through a state funded program in my area called Early Steps. They did a evaluation and determined my daughter was delayed. They gave me the referrals for speech and Occupational Therapy and they recommended she see a neurologist so they can assess and determine if she was autistic. She was 2 1/2 years old at the time she started Speech and Occupational therapy. After she got her Autism diagnosis from the neurologist she was almost 3 yrs old. They gave me the referral and necessary letter for ABA/behavior therapy. I'd say once the process was complete, she started with the ABA therapy about a month before turning 4. But as advocates for our children we have to sometimes take other routes, especially if their doctors are not taking our concerns seriously. Wishing you the best of luck ❤️
She is great! My nonverbal nephew started talking at about 4 yrs. And with early intervention did very well. He is 22 and graduated college last month. So proud.
My son is 9 and diagnosed as level 3 Autistic. He didnt speak his first word until right before his 7th birthday. We were fully conviced he would never talk and had completely come to terms with it. He would just make the same squeaks, squeals, and sounds over and over again. He refused to do any signing and wouldnt use any other means to communicate so understanding his needs was incredibly difficult. His dad and I know him so well though that we could usually figure out what he wanted but for other people it was super hard. Then one day he went to school not speaking and when he got home, he was talking. It was unreal. It was the most amazing thing hearing him speak. He now speaks 2 to 3 word phrases or parrots us. He struggles with pronouns, specifically mixing up you and I a lot. He also has trouble pronouncing certain sounds and the way he says words, like their syllables are different than how they're suppose to be said. Figuring out what he's saying can be tough but he does speech therapy in school along with occupational therapy so they're working on it. He cant tell us how he feels physically, emotionally or mentally which gets very frustrating for him. We've learned all his cues though so we can usually figure things out on our own. Like right now he's sick and one of the things he struggles with is telling us his symptoms. He wont point to the areas of his body that dont feel right. He will only tell us bucket or fever so thats been a huge struggle with him. Unfortunately he gets sick constantly when he's at school. There's 5 kids including him in his life skills class at school and they pass everything back and forth constantly. None of the other parents ever seem to keep their kids home when their sick which drives me nuts. One parent even sent their child to school while he was actively puking with a fever. My son also has a phobia of medicine so he wont take any kind of medicine at all, no tylenol or anything. He will only take one specific antibiotic and it's a struggle to get him to take it. Sorry, I started venting lol. I don't have anyone to really vent to about this stuff so sometimes it just comes out. Anyway, it's so amazing seeing Mikko starting to speak! She is just so precious! She reminds me so much of my son at that age. You're doing so awesome with her mom!
Your videos of Miko have helped me recognize the symptoms in my grandgirl Nova, who is 2 (will be 3 in Sept). I was able to talk with my daughter about it and now we both watch your videos. My grandgirl is non-verbal and currently has therapy every Monday and Thursday. Watching Miko is like watching my pretty grandgirl, it's so beautiful to watch. I'm so grateful for your videos and helping me understand non-verbal autism. Blessings!!
All the crossed circuits in her mind are beginning to sort themselves out and make sense. She is growing, and so is her knowledge bank and coping mechanisms. Thanks in no small part to the great efforts of her family and her supportive parents. I have never seen Mikko as a child who would be forever incapable of communication. She is an unknown quantity and she's only just beginning to show what she can do and achieve.
My son was non-verbal until he was 4yo; pictures on items really helped him out. He'll be 13 this summer and his vocabulary is so expansive that it's hard to believe there was a time when I wasn't sure he'd ever speak. You're an amazing woman and mother, Precious! A lot of neuro divergent children take a while to get going when it comes to talking. But once they get going, watch out. The bank of information that they have been storing comes pouring out. It is a joy to behold. Congratulations on your progress. 🎉🎉🎉
I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who was diagnosed last year with Level 3 Non-Verbal ASD. We’ve been in speech therapy ever since. She started Early Childhood Special Eduction soon after she turned 3. Next is getting her signed up with ABA. Watching Mikko making progress has been helpful and reassuring.

You're doing fantastic!! My first child,& elder son, started talking when he was about three. Before that, nothing but gestures & sounds. *They* (the medical team) suggested we put him in a boarding school for special children. We got to the parking lot, then decided to go to McDonald's, instead. When he was four, a lot more confident, & talking pretty ok, we tried half a day preschool. It was actually in an elementary school with two kind special Ed (female) teachers. He blossomed gradually, but beautifully! I'm so happy to see both of you Sharing your journey, as many of us had no one outside of our home & family to share it with. And, she Will Talk! Just when we thought we'd Never get to the Next milestone...we Did! I...was most nervous about mainstreaming him into regular classes (in middle school, along with his special Ed), & his Huge smile told me it would be fine. Along with music "therapy", speech therapy, & video gaming along with sports (I was So Proud at the Special Olympics), which Greatly helped with hand/eye coordination & graceful,steady walking movement. Perks of special Ed was swimming lessons & activities at the YMCA. We found he was a mathematical genius & made some amazing jewelry (still beautiful to this day). He even played the violin (he now plays one of 7 electric guitars). If you had told me that he'd be able to do Any of the things he's accomplished, I don't know if I could have envisioned it, because we were led to believe he never would. Happy we decided to back what our Son needed, not what doctors believed. You're already hip to that. Other than sneaking out of the house to visit my parents (age 4,we were already going After his nap), & getting a driver's license behind our backs (😳), he grew up a very kind & wonderful young man. He was scouted for college while still in high school, eventually getting two degrees. When I look back from here, it's still kinda hard to believe. Our son has Asperger's. He always will, & we've never pretended otherwise. We just learned,over time, that the more educated he got, the further up the Spectrum it pushed him. All we can do is stay connected & gently try. Just like our boy, Mikko will get to where she's meant to be. Just... cherish Every moment!! Hugs!

My son is not non-verbal, he’s always been a BIG talker. It just wasn’t anything close to English for the first few years 😆 School helped him immensely. I cannot tell you the relief and joy that flooded through me when he started asking for “drink” instead of just screaming. Screaming until I went through the Rolodex of things he *might* want until I landed on the right one. Every time, every day. That was the only tool he had to express that he needed something. It was exhausting, discouraging, frustrating, etc. He’s 10 now and he’s thriving. Sometimes I forget where we started and how far he’s come. Things get easier as they get older. Never perfect, but better. ❤

I made a communication board for my daughter with labels of her favorite food that she recognized, and also one for activities, such as goinf outside, drawing and reading.
Without having any experience with autism, I believe Mikko's language is progressing the way any child's does, she's just behind by a year or 2. It's like watching a baby form words at one then 2 then 3 etc. It's so amazing to watch❤
This has been a great help to me as I'm growing with my grandson who too has been diagnosed with autism. He blessed me last weekend when he signed that he wanted more and then picked up something out the floor upon command . He is also counting my figures and learning his facial parts . Initially I was heartbroken when I realized that she had autism because I’ve been watching your videos here and there since you had her and I just thought what a beautiful baby and little girl she has grown up to be so once I realized that she was autistic I was so saddened. But after seeing the most recent videos of her learning her to talk and the love and attention that she show towards her has warmed my spirit. I’m so happy to see her progress so quickly. Many blessings to you and I will continue to pray for her and your family’s strength.
One on one Literacy based Speech Therapy at a Speech Pathology Clinic gave my daughter a voice. She started at age 3, she is now 5 and is verbal and articulate (short words, phrases and sometimes sentences) She communicates her wants and needs in as few words as possible, When we remind her to "use her words" she repeats her wants in needs using a complete sentence!" She initiates play with her 9 year old brother and they have a ball!" She is very smart and an amazing artist. She is also showing an interest in music. As parents, you have to talk to them as much as possible even if you don't get a response. And 🙏🏾.
I have a background working with children, and you're amazing. How you foster and facilitate her learning is what makes all the difference. You should be very proud of yourself! I hope other parents will take a page from your book.

This makes my heart smile. I've seen so many of your videos, and they have helped me a lot along the way with my autistic son. I love the patients you have with her. My son was nonverbal until he was a little over 4, then he started talking using just one word here and there. He made a major leap at 5 and started with echoing shows and songs in full sentences. At 6, he started using some sentences himself. I do believe pre-school helped a lot with that. His sentences were jumbled like "can I want apple" and not 100% but a major progress. We tried first grade in public school to see if being around typical children would help even more and it did with his communication skills but not with his over stimulating issues so we decided to try home schooling and it has been amazing.

She's doing so great! One of my sisters didn't utter a word until she was 3 years old. All she did was point and grunt. Then one day, totally out of the blue, she just started talking in complete sentences. A cousin spoke only a made-up language that only one of his brothers could interpret. He did this until he was 3 also. Wishing you continued success!

Overwhelmed is an understatement - the behavioral changes never seem to end. It’s so hard sometimes but we can’t give up. If we do our children won’t make progress.

Thank you so much for this! We’re waiting on a diagnosis for my daughter and Mikko reminds me of her in so many ways. This also encourages me to remain persistent and consistent. I’ve been home more and I’ve seen drastic improvement. We also work with a speech therapist, which has been wonderful. Mikko, you’re doing great. Momma, proud of you.
In addition to the good job you are doing- could she also benefit from weekly speech therapy sessions with a professional. I believe if you took her to a place where she could see other kid friendly environments, that should peek her enthusiasm/motivation. You have to try everything during that high learning age which is todler to about age 6. Also, since you have two older children, most younger children want to do what their siblings do, so it seems like she should want to keep up with them. Maybe, you could develop a game sitting at the table with the other kids and Mikko, where everybody identifies letters and objects with picture object cards. Do this weekly then give them a surprise treat also for motivation.

This is great! I work with students with autism in a special education class. One thing our behavior specialist told us is that if a child is using any kind of vocalizations to communicate (even if they’re not real words), this means they’re non-speaking instead of non-verbal, which means no communication at all. (No sounds or anything). I know this might’ve been the case when she first started which meant she was non-verbal. Just thought I’d share that because it was very interesting to me to hear the distinction between the two. Thanks so much for sharing Mikko’s journey. She is a light and she will inspire many❤

Getting professional help for your daughter's speech will exponentially help her language develop. My daughter was diagnosed at 3 and after 2 years of speech and ABA therapy, she has gone from one word utterances to 5-8 word sentences. She also dresses herself now and doesn't elope anymore. She also has very great play/social skills as well, from all her therapy which is play based. You have nothing to lose. They were just able to get results faster than me and any books I was reading/trying to implement. Good luck.

You may be adding more to your plate than you might need to deal with!! I het her diagnosis but are you putting other things ahead of her well being?? Did you get her outside therapy??
My 3 yr old autistic granddaughter is in school now half day and is starting to talk more. Hallelujah!! She has epic meltdowns sometimes although they are becoming fewer. Again. Hallelujah!! So happy for you. It will get better. Her 10 yr old brother was the same way and he is mainstream now and doing very well. Has a lisp but easy to understand.

My son is 4.5 & started talking about 2 months ago. Right after we started an at home aba type therapy. He would copy every single thing we said so I played into that & would literally give him things to say & it worked.. I started giving him choices of what to watch on TV & he was able to pick what he wanted from the choices & verbally tell me.. & I work with him everyday, through constant repetition & he requests shows , things to eat , places to go.. I'm always talking to him & he's more talkative when I do.. he has a similar speech pattern to Miko & it almost sounds like he's trying to say sentences..he says I & mommy in front of other words now . All of your hard work is paying off with Miko. She'll be taking off soon. I think my son might be a gestalt language processor & that's why he's having trouble forming sentences. Keep going Miko !!
Watching your videos have meant so much to me. I’m working on my own journey with helping my daughter and getting her the therapy she needs. Seeing where you have gotten Mikko to has me so inspired, you are an amazing mom!
I am an interpreter for the deaf, no longer licensed because I homeschool my one, but, anyway, love seeing her use sign language. Such a blessing. Signing while talking (and showing an icon of the item or the item itself) is so good for helping with acquiring language. She is doing so good! I applaud you mom, you do well with your tender arrow, Mikko! So blessed.
Love to see how she is progressing. It’s great that you are taking things at your own pace. Let professionals be your backup but no one knows your child like you do. I would also like to see more videos about your journey. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 50. In the last ten years I have learned things that help me. My brother is autistic, he didn't talk 'til he was 7 years old. When he started, we couldn't stop him. He is very intelligent. He's smarter than most ppl (book-wise), including some of the teachers. Don't sweat the small stuff, take your time. My brother talked gibberish as well. The gibberish will soon turn into words. She will be just fine!
I have faith Mikko will be talking. My 4 yr old daughter sounded exactly how Mikko does when she would talk. Since she's been receiving speech and ABA therapy her talking has improved a whole lot. She still has her moments where she babbles and it's a struggle to understand, but not as much as it was before.
When did your daughter start those therapies? My Isabella just turned 3 and it feels like the doctor is dragging his feet. Am I just being impatient?
@chilltarts no your not being impatient at all. My daughter's pediatrician kept dismissing my concerns ever since my daughter was 1 1/2 years old and I suspected she had autism. I ended up going through a state funded program in my area called Early Steps. They did a evaluation and determined my daughter was delayed. They gave me the referrals for speech and Occupational Therapy and they recommended she see a neurologist so they can assess and determine if she was autistic. She was 2 1/2 years old at the time she started Speech and Occupational therapy. After she got her Autism diagnosis from the neurologist she was almost 3 yrs old. They gave me the referral and necessary letter for ABA/behavior therapy. I'd say once the process was complete, she started with the ABA therapy about a month before turning 4. But as advocates for our children we have to sometimes take other routes, especially if their doctors are not taking our concerns seriously. Wishing you the best of luck ❤️

My son is 9 and diagnosed as level 3 Autistic. He didnt speak his first word until right before his 7th birthday. We were fully conviced he would never talk and had completely come to terms with it. He would just make the same squeaks, squeals, and sounds over and over again. He refused to do any signing and wouldnt use any other means to communicate so understanding his needs was incredibly difficult. His dad and I know him so well though that we could usually figure out what he wanted but for other people it was super hard. Then one day he went to school not speaking and when he got home, he was talking. It was unreal. It was the most amazing thing hearing him speak. He now speaks 2 to 3 word phrases or parrots us. He struggles with pronouns, specifically mixing up you and I a lot. He also has trouble pronouncing certain sounds and the way he says words, like their syllables are different than how they're suppose to be said. Figuring out what he's saying can be tough but he does speech therapy in school along with occupational therapy so they're working on it. He cant tell us how he feels physically, emotionally or mentally which gets very frustrating for him. We've learned all his cues though so we can usually figure things out on our own. Like right now he's sick and one of the things he struggles with is telling us his symptoms. He wont point to the areas of his body that dont feel right. He will only tell us bucket or fever so thats been a huge struggle with him. Unfortunately he gets sick constantly when he's at school. There's 5 kids including him in his life skills class at school and they pass everything back and forth constantly. None of the other parents ever seem to keep their kids home when their sick which drives me nuts. One parent even sent their child to school while he was actively puking with a fever. My son also has a phobia of medicine so he wont take any kind of medicine at all, no tylenol or anything. He will only take one specific antibiotic and it's a struggle to get him to take it. Sorry, I started venting lol. I don't have anyone to really vent to about this stuff so sometimes it just comes out. Anyway, it's so amazing seeing Mikko starting to speak! She is just so precious! She reminds me so much of my son at that age. You're doing so awesome with her mom!

Your videos of Miko have helped me recognize the symptoms in my grandgirl Nova, who is 2 (will be 3 in Sept). I was able to talk with my daughter about it and now we both watch your videos. My grandgirl is non-verbal and currently has therapy every Monday and Thursday. Watching Miko is like watching my pretty grandgirl, it's so beautiful to watch. I'm so grateful for your videos and helping me understand non-verbal autism. Blessings!!

All the crossed circuits in her mind are beginning to sort themselves out and make sense. She is growing, and so is her knowledge bank and coping mechanisms. Thanks in no small part to the great efforts of her family and her supportive parents. I have never seen Mikko as a child who would be forever incapable of communication. She is an unknown quantity and she's only just beginning to show what she can do and achieve.

He'll be 13 this summer and his vocabulary is so expansive that it's hard to believe there was a time when I wasn't sure he'd ever speak. You're an amazing woman and mother, Precious! A lot of neuro divergent children take a while to get going when it comes to talking. But once they get going, watch out. The bank of information that they have been storing comes pouring out. It is a joy to behold. Congratulations on your progress. 🎉🎉🎉

I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who was diagnosed last year with Level 3 Non-Verbal ASD. We’ve been in speech therapy ever since. She started Early Childhood Special Eduction soon after she turned 3. Next is getting her signed up with ABA. Watching Mikko making progress has been helpful and reassuring.

You're doing fantastic!! My first child,& elder son, started talking when he was about three. Before that, nothing but gestures & sounds. *They* (the medical team) suggested we put him in a boarding school for special children. We got to the parking lot, then decided to go to McDonald's, instead. When he was four, a lot more confident, & talking pretty ok, we tried half a day preschool. It was actually in an elementary school with two kind special Ed (female) teachers. He blossomed gradually, but beautifully! I'm so happy to see both of you Sharing your journey, as many of us had no one outside of our home & family to share it with. And, she Will Talk! Just when we thought we'd Never get to the Next milestone...we Did! I...was most nervous about mainstreaming him into regular classes (in middle school, along with his special Ed), & his Huge smile told me it would be fine. Along with music "therapy", speech therapy, & video gaming along with sports (I was So Proud at the Special Olympics), which Greatly helped with hand/eye coordination & graceful,steady walking movement. Perks of special Ed was swimming lessons & activities at the YMCA. We found he was a mathematical genius & made some amazing jewelry (still beautiful to this day). He even played the violin (he now plays one of 7 electric guitars). If you had told me that he'd be able to do Any of the things he's accomplished, I don't know if I could have envisioned it, because we were led to believe he never would. Happy we decided to back what our Son needed, not what doctors believed. You're already hip to that. Other than sneaking out of the house to visit my parents (age 4,we were already going After his nap), & getting a driver's license behind our backs (😳), he grew up a very kind & wonderful young man. He was scouted for college while still in high school, eventually getting two degrees. When I look back from here, it's still kinda hard to believe. Our son has Asperger's. He always will, & we've never pretended otherwise. We just learned,over time, that the more educated he got, the further up the Spectrum it pushed him. All we can do is stay connected & gently try. Just like our boy, Mikko will get to where she's meant to be. Just... cherish Every moment!! Hugs!

My son is not non-verbal, he’s always been a BIG talker. It just wasn’t anything close to English for the first few years 😆
School helped him immensely. I cannot tell you the relief and joy that flooded through me when he started asking for “drink” instead of just screaming. Screaming until I went through the Rolodex of things he *might* want until I landed on the right one. Every time, every day. That was the only tool he had to express that he needed something. It was exhausting, discouraging, frustrating, etc.
He’s 10 now and he’s thriving. Sometimes I forget where we started and how far he’s come. Things get easier as they get older. Never perfect, but better. ❤

I made a communication board for my daughter with labels of her favorite food that she recognized, and also one for activities, such as goinf outside, drawing and reading.

Without having any experience with autism, I believe Mikko's language is progressing the way any child's does, she's just behind by a year or 2. It's like watching a baby form words at one then 2 then 3 etc. It's so amazing to watch❤
This has been a great help to me as I'm growing with my grandson who too has been diagnosed with autism. He blessed me last weekend when he signed that he wanted more and then picked up something out the floor upon command . He is also counting my figures and learning his facial parts . Initially I was heartbroken when I realized that she had autism because I’ve been watching your videos here and there since you had her and I just thought what a beautiful baby and little girl she has grown up to be so once I realized that she was autistic I was so saddened. But after seeing the most recent videos of her learning her to talk and the love and attention that she show towards her has warmed my spirit. I’m so happy to see her progress so quickly. One on one Literacy based Speech Therapy at a Speech Pathology Clinic gave my daughter a voice. She started at age 3, she is now 5 and is verbal and articulate (short words, phrases and sometimes sentences) She communicates her wants and needs in as few words as possible, When we remind her to "use her words" she repeats her wants in needs using a complete sentence!" She initiates play with her 9 year old brother and they have a ball!" She is very smart and an amazing artist. She is also showing an interest in music. As parents, you have to talk to them as much as possible even if you don't get a response. And 🙏🏾.

This makes my heart smile. I've seen so many of your videos, and they have helped me a lot along the way with my autistic son. I love the patients you have with her. My son was nonverbal until he was a little over 4, then he started talking using just one word here and there. He made a major leap at 5 and started with echoing shows and songs in full sentences. At 6, he started using some sentences himself. I do believe pre-school helped a lot with that. His sentences were jumbled like "can I want apple" and not 100% but a major progress. We tried first grade in public school to see if being around typical children would help even more and it did with his communication skills but not with his over stimulating issues so we decided to try home schooling and it has been amazing.

She's doing so great! One of my sisters didn't utter a word until she was 3 years old. All she did was point and grunt. Then one day, totally out of the blue, she just started talking in complete sentences. A cousin spoke only a made-up language that only one of his brothers could interpret. He did this until he was 3 also. Wishing you continued success!

In addition to the good job you are doing- could she also benefit from weekly speech therapy sessions with a professional. I believe if you took her to a place where she could see other kid friendly environments, that should peek her enthusiasm/motivation. You have to try everything during that high learning age which is todler to about age 6.
Also, since you have two older children, most younger children want to do what their siblings do, so it seems like she should want to keep up with them. Maybe, you could develop a game sitting at the table with the other kids and Mikko, where everybody identifies letters and objects with picture object cards. Do this weekly then give them a surprise treat also for motivation.

This is great! I work with students with autism in a special education class. One thing our behavior specialist told us is that if a child is using any kind of vocalizations to communicate (even if they’re not real words), this means they’re non-speaking instead of non-verbal, which means no communication at all. (No sounds or anything). I know this might’ve been the case when she first started which meant she was non-verbal. Just thought I’d share that because it was very interesting to me to hear the distinction between the two. Thanks so much for sharing Mikko’s journey. She is a light and she will inspire many❤

Getting professional help for your daughter's speech will exponentially help her language develop. My daughter was diagnosed at 3 and after 2 years of speech and ABA therapy, she has gone from one word utterances to 5-8 word sentences. She also dresses herself now and doesn't elope anymore. She also has very great play/social skills as well, from all her therapy which is play based. You have nothing to lose. They were just able to get results faster than me and any books I was reading/trying to implement. Good luck.

My 3 yr old autistic granddaughter is in school now half day and is starting to talk more. Hallelujah!! She has epic meltdowns sometimes although they are becoming fewer. Again. Hallelujah!! So happy for you. It will get better. Her 10 yr old brother was the same way and he is mainstream now and doing very well. Has a lisp but easy to understand.

My son is 4.5 & started talking about 2 months ago. Right after we started an at home aba type therapy. He would copy every single thing we said so I played into that & would literally give him things to say & it worked.. I started giving him choices of what to watch on TV & he was able to pick what he wanted from the choices & verbally tell me.. & I work with him everyday, through constant repetition & he requests shows , things to eat , places to go.. I'm always talking to him & he's more talkative when I do.. he has a similar speech pattern to Miko & it almost sounds like he's trying to say sentences..he says I & mommy in front of other words now . All of your hard work is paying off with Miko. She'll be taking off soon. I think my son might be a gestalt language processor & that's why he's having trouble forming sentences. Keep going Miko !!

I am an interpreter for the deaf, no longer licensed because I homeschool my one, but, anyway, love seeing her use sign language. Such a blessing. Signing while talking (and showing an icon of the item or the item itself) is so good for helping with acquiring language. She is doing so good! I would also like to see more videos about your journey. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 50. In the last ten years I have learned things that help me.
