I love how when she first realized she couldn't suck her thumb and you reinforced that the gloves weren't going to come off, she went in for a hug. I saw that as her continuing to seek out a source of comfort to ease her growing distress💚

She is doing really well. I, however believe she is somewhat at the stage where it can also be just echolalia.
      But that is absolutely progress!

@@ChallieWallie Right. Her mom has said in previous videos it’s echolalia. However, even if she’s exhibiting that still, Mikko’s leaps & bounds from where she was. And it’s amazing to watch.

It’s possible that the gloves also reduce sensory overload in a way. My friend’s autistic son won’t touch certain things because he doesn’t like the feeling on his skin. He actually starting eating things he previously refused to eat once they gave him little gloves to wear to touch the food with.
Would strongly recommend getting Mikko in speech and language therapy ASAP if you’re able. She’s clearly very smart and is actually trying very hard to communicate verbally which is amazing. I’m extremely anti credentialism and don’t believe certifications give folks magical powers. But I’ve seen lots of therapists with experience help kids tremendously.

As an autistic person myself, I have always felt that skin on a chalkboard is a worse sensation than nails. That's a screech in my ears. I also have ADHD and like genres like screamo and metal. I can handle that. Touching a chalkboard with my fingertips is screeching on my skin and that is Not Okay. Velvet is also pretty cringe.

sorry i don’t mean anything negative by this but only to raise awareness. i am very aware you mean good and no harm🤍
saying to us autistics that we have superpowers can be very harmful. it has lead to burnout by trying to reach the expectations put on us, the majority of us think we are not good enough if we don’t have something extraordinary. a lot of autistic people don’t have “superpowers” and we are just as valid, we don’t need a superpower to be respected or accepted.

certain people read and move on and don’t know that there are autistic people who don’t have a “gift”. we still struggle we are still autistic because we are human, we don’t have superpowers.

When my autistic daughter was about 7 or 8 her teeth were malformed by thumb sucking, Her dentist gave us his glove & book because he wanted us to try it out for him. The manufacturer had sent one to him & he asked us to report how well it worked. I am happy to announce it DID work! Today she is a happy young woman with a beautiful smile.
Good for you, Darling Mikko! So happy you no longer suck your thumb either!
PRECIOUS, I need more information about stimming. I have 2 elementary school aged grandsons who both stim constantly. I just don't fully understand what stimming does. Where can I get more information on this? Thank you!
