- I'm so excited to share Dexter's latest bit of progress and explain why it sheds some light on his atypical communication development to date.

This story is almost exactly what we're going through with our autistic 4 year old. She's still non/pre-verbal, but she's so outgoing and expressive and she babbles and vocalises all the time, so we remain hopeful. This video was very helpful because (as you know) parents of neurodivergent children can feel very lonely and hopeless sometimes. You feel like everyone else is having 'normal' experiences with their children and you can't help but feel jealous. People say "Aw well, at least she has lovely parents, etc, etc"... But that feels like people don't know what to say, even if they're attempting to be comforting. It's a weird ride and we love our little girl very much who is always winning little victories every week. Even simple things like her sitting on the play mat at nursery waiting to have her name called for pick up is amazing.
This mother is an angel. She is so patient and loving with him.

I would personally love to speak to this lady. I've only just come across this lady channel and has completely taken me from a sad mum to a mum with hope! I have a two year old little girl who is so beautiful in every way but showing strong sighs of Autism. I've cried nights on end with endless questions that no professional can answer with confidence but some how this lady has!! You are doing such a wonderful thing from the video where you said about Dexter's red flags and how emotional you was honestly without sounding like a mad woman i never felt so close to complete stranger!! Please carry on with what your doing because honestly you give hope and warmth to Mums and Dads who are about to start this wonderful but very scary journey. Thankyou x
Same here. i have 19 months old baby and everything that she said on her video from 18 months is what exactly what my child does. i am observing my child when he reached 1 yr old. I am seeing signs already but i am in the stage of indenial that nothings wrong with my child. But now ,this lady gives me a confident and there's nothing to be afraid of. we are our kids shelter. We should be their number 1 supporter. After this virus im going to set an appoinment for consultation.

My son is 24yrs old now he was diagnosed with autism when he was 3 1/2yrs old. This is exactly how his speech developed, he now gives talks to the autistic community and those who work in that field. My son was only interested in electronic toys like like speak and spell... anything electronically interactive! Its lovely to see this.. it brought back many memories. xx

Hi Joanna, are any of your son's talks online? I'd love to hear his first hand experience. My son is only interested in electronic toys too with the exception of books. We know all his books by heart after reading to him so much 😂

I've been following your story since June, last year when our son has been diagnosed and hoped for this kind of news. You are both wonderful. This is awesome, my son is 8 and was diagnosed at 3 1/2. When he was diagnosed he had about 10-15 words he now speaks in sentences, dont get me wrong we are still working on things but now its clear he will be completely verbal. It’s been a slow steady progress, you lil one will get there w a momma like you. Your boy is trying so hard its amazing. james is very smart but the verbal output is harder for him but he totally gets way more than i ever thought.
Oh Faye, my heart has exploded with happiness for Dexter and for you all, the happiness on his face is absolutely amazing. My own son is 3.5 years and is now starting to point to almost everything when we ask where it is and/or what he wants. His understanding his come on leaps and bounds since even Christmas, he also mimics some sounds and let's slip a word every now and again, most recently "pie" which almost gets such a big praise and round of applause. I feel.we too will get there and are hoping to use AAC soon. Well done to Dexter ❤

I wonder if its just the total 1 to 1 attention he is getting at the moment as I am having to work from home. You have no idea how beautiful watching you both play word games was. You can see the relief in Dexter that he's able to verbally communicate with you. Like his frustration is just so much less. Beautiful boy. How is your other little man getting on? X

This is very helpful and inspiring. My son is 3 and he regressed a lot after turning 2. He’s sort of showing more interest in repeating again with songs and he’s trying to mimic his twin sister.

My son Mathias was diagnosed with autism October of 2020 at the age of 3. Our son began coming out of his shell(verbally) when he heard the baby shark song. He wasn't saying the words but he verbalized the beat. This was the first time we ever heard him repeating or mimicking anything. He is now 3 and a half to be exact. He is now making new sounds every day. He recently started calling me mama and his father dada as well as no and stop. I joyfully cry during these victories. Fantastic! I invested in ACC in December as my son and Dexter’s development seemed so aligned. I hesitated about ACC for some time. But after 4 months. My son is now speaking (attempting sounds, words, syllables) too. Xx

I loved this video and think you are an amazing mother. I am a full time nanny for a family with two non verbal children. One of them is six years old and the other is almost three years old. The older one has an AAC device and it really helps. The younger one just got one as well. I have been with the family since the oldest was three months. The boys both are so intelligent and have so many amazing qualities. Continue giving the love to your children that you currently give as this was such a helpful video for me to watch.

You are an awesome mom. My son had a brain tumor removed when he was 2 yrs 10 mo. Then we found out he has ASD, ADSD and intellectual disability 2 months ago. He is now almost 6 yrs old. He stressed me out all the time.

2022. I loved your video. My daugter is turning 2yrs old next month(Oct 2022) and we know she's autistic even without a diagnosis. In due time, we'll get her diagnosed. RUclips has been fundamental, I've learned so much.

My 4 year old just started "talking" because he got his communication device when our lockdown started. His school gave us one until this whole thing passed. But now they have canceled school until the next school year. Thankfully they will let him keep it through the summer and return it for the next school year.
He says more in the last 2 and a half months than he has ever in his whole life.
