People don't realize Luke spent most of his life living normally at Tatooine, whereas Maul from birth has been at school earning a degree in the Science of Kicking Ass
Tatooine is pretty damn savage as a whole though. And Luke was using the Force unconsciously during much of his life too. Beggar's Canyon in particularly in regards to his piloting were all very similar to how Anakin first used his powers.
Thanks Antoine this is a great fight one I debated with people and we were undicided this was one I thought might happen great video and keep up the good work
Remember, nothing substitutes experience. Darth Maul for me is one of the most wasted characters in the franchise. This guy was freaking epic and I didn't like the 'hacky' way they killed him off.
Well he didn't actually die in The Phantom Menace. He was found and given new legs and fought in the clone wars, although when he finally met Obi-wan on tataoine he met his fate.
@Daniel James luke didnt really beat vader. vader was heavily suppressing himself so that he didnt kill him. if they were too actually fight, luke is dead
@@Daxons that incarnation I feel would be able to handle if not best maul but I also feel he’d try to find ways to salvage maul as a person and try to convince him to find the light like Vader but doubt he would turn in his 60-70s. As much as I love Maul any Luke in his literal Master days would be tough for Maul.
I think Darth Maul is a highly under rated character in these types of comparisons. He is so often viewed as little more than an apprentice, an apprentice treated like a redheaded stepchild at that. But take this into account - Maul does not die! Darth Maul gets cut in half, then falls down a plasma mine. He then comes back 12(?) years later in TCW saying he kept himself alive through sheer rage. By the end of TCW he has his body beaten by Palpatine. (Spoiler alert) Then at the end of Rebels S2, Asoka knocks him off the side of the sith temple (1000 feet sound about right?) and the very last scene shows him flying away in his ship! The only other person in the Star Wars universe with this kind of power was Darth Sion who had to be convinced to let himself die because he was completely unstoppable. It is even described that Sion's inability to be killed came from controlling the force through huge amounts of rage - just like Maul. Even if his actual skill levels aren't up to par with some masters, I'd say you're flat out wrong to deny calling him one of the most powerful sith ever.
Maul definitely is underrated most of the time. Even just his combat abilities seem to be overlooked. He only "lost" to Obi Wan from taunting him. He could've (and should've) just easily ended it. And that was a young Darth Maul. His potential was insane, as long as Sidious allowed it. Speaking of which, Sidious purposely suppressed his abilities so that he couldn't challenge him. Sidious knew if he let Darth Maul be trained in everything that he himself knew, Maul could have a chance at killing him. That alone is reason enough to not take Maul lightly. Also, Maul's force strength both before and after being cut in half were on par with most Jedi Masters. So there's no doubt that he could go toe-toe with most characters that people would say should "destroy" Maul. Outside of Mace Windu though ... Vaapad is literally the perfect kryptonite against Maul. I see no way Maul can get past Vaapad, plus Windu was just an excellent duelist to begin with and very powerful in the Force, having Shatterpoint making him OP against Sith in canon.
Spot on analysis. Maul just has too much experience and ferocity. It would be like a street fighter going up against an MMA fighter that was trained and conditioned from birth
+BastermaBoy Maul is one of the strongest living force users after the clone wars... He was on par with Darth Vader and could easily force choke someone trained in the ways of the force.. Maul killed over 10 Jedi I really don't see Jinn winning lol Maul didn't even use all of his power.
Legends Luke is ridiculously powerful. I mean, it makes sense since in Legends he had to fight opponents like Abeloth, but yeah, Legends Luke would wreck Maul.
By his depiction in Clone Wars and Rebels, Maul was quite free with the force. He uses ragdolling, force push, pull and chokes often as well as lightsaber throws in between his fighting. Last ep of rebels he killed the inquisitor by force alone. (Before once again underestimating his opponent and falling down a cliff)
+Pasan Etternavn People have this skewed idea of how skilled Maul was; his lore and his track record make him out to be one of if not the best lightsaber duelist.
+War Machine Maul fought Vader in the EU and Maul's fucking retarded ass ego made him lose one again... Maul just needs to become a Jedi and maybe his ego will go away lol wtf..
Langdon Carter That wasn't Maul; it was a clone of Maul and even still he (the clone) clearly had the upper hand against Vader who only won through plot device by impaling himself and then Maul. Any way you look at it, that fight neither boosts nor lessens Maul's abilities as he was never there to begin with.
I was always under the impression that in star wars, the clones of beings were always about 80-85% as good as the real thing. However I do recall, that in that novel it stated the clone was as strong as the original tpm maul?? Regardless the clone wars maul/rebels maul is more powerful than his tpm self.
Maybe not the rebel maul since he is pretty old by that point. Clone war maul is one of the best fighters out there. In the fight vs Sidious he got defeated by force powers. He was doing pretty well at the lightsaber fighting.
Holy crap, dude, this is a bold statement! I am a huge Skywalker fan, and I would love to say you were wrong...but as this video went on I found I couldn't argue with your logic. Absolutely love these verses videos! Keep them coming! :D
Totally agree with the verdict. I love how you slice it to pieces and explain every point of fight with logic, thus creating somewhat realistic Swot-analysis :)
***** lol I've always liked Anakin more than Luke. When I was a little kid, I guess Luke although it was mostly due to what his character was on the surface but now Anakin all the way.
I love your videos dude. :D Usually I don't watch videos this long, but you are doing a nice job to keep it interesting. Keep up the good work! (sry for my english xD)
That Dooku opening to the skill portions was excellently done. While I believe Maul should have gotten the force edge I don't think it makes a huge difference either way. Highly enjoyed the video, great job Antoine.
Antoine Bandele Well by TPM Maul had shown more precision and control along with greater power in TK. Something I recently was shown though was Luke resisting a direct TK blast from Vader so like I said not really enough to make a difference in the fight.
Tobito you say that as a joke but considering we know most if not all plot convince is directly an action of the force then it wouldn’t be unfair to say that the force naturally lends itself to let Luke have great success
God damn Antoine you're so good at these, you have such a well rounded knowledge of Star Wars rather than being biased or pointing out obvious things, you really go in detail. Great job!
If this was before the rein of the Galactic Disney Empire.... Grand-Master Luke would be unstoppable (Even George Lucas stated how Luke was the most powerful Star Wars character).
+Tyler Staley Ya, the expanded universe is a real joke. There were some really good stories; but back then, luke was treated like a fucking wizard. Luke was able to do anything the writers wanted to pull out of their ass.
@@AntoineBandele you know, 5 years later and I sorta agree he felt like bleach character or Superman in legends. I feel like the last episode of the mandalorian ( spoiler ) was a great showing of where Luke’s force abilities and lightsaber combat should be.
Antoine man I'm loving this new setup for the battles. Better transitions, reasonable assumptions and speculation. Love your versus series I look forward too them as much as I do screwattacks death battle. Keep it up.
Darth Maul wins hands down ✅. If Luke was around during the clone wars era or previous then yeah he would be a force to be reckoned with due to the state of the galaxy at the time , adequate experiences to match it , proper formal lightsaber usage & combat training aswell as much more to offer at his disposal to utilise. The empire era had all that jedi stuff more or less banned , outlawed or destroyed so Luke can only go so far as a self taught person. Maul has been trained from Birth to be an assassin & he only got more blood thirsty , skilled & calculating as he aged in the Star Wars Mythos from when he was introduced in the 1st Movie 👏🏾.
A very fair, and justified outcome as always. If Luke had more experience, I believe he would have better been able to defeat Maul, but as it currently stands in canon, Maul is far too well trained for Luke to beat him. Give Luke a few more years of training, combined with the rate at which he learns, he would stand up against Maul. I wish there was more information on Luke between ROTJ and TFA...
My heart always skips a beat when I see you've uploaded another versus video haha. I know it must be incredibly difficult to make these and I really can't put into words how much I appreciate all the hard work you put into them man. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Thanks for using my idea! :v) Here are my ideas for versus episodes: * Asajj Ventress vs. Darth Maul * Darth Zana vs. Anakin Skywalker * Darth Vader vs. Count Dooku * Revan vs. Darth Bane * Galen Marek vs. Darth Bane * Korra vs. Darth Vader * Sora vs. Ashoka Tano
+TheNuisanceBird I disagree. Anakin is still quite unstable; Zannah would probably draw on Anakin's sadness over Shmi's death. Well, in my opinion, at least.
Maul Anakin decapitates her he's on par with Sidious by revenge of the sith Vader good fight Revan Bane Vader Sora for his showings against dooku and windu
No problem! I'm Jimmy btw. Love your work and would love to work on something similar to these in the future! Love how you break each character into typically 3 facets!
You forgot to mention Luke's protagonist plot-armor and Maul's antagonist plot-cancer. Also, I'd imagine George Lucas would stop the fight halfway through and recolor Maul purple or something.
Hey Antoine could you please do at least one of these or all 1. Darth Maul vs Darth Vader 2. Darth Maul vs Anakin Skywalker 3. Darth Maul vs Count Dooku
Love the geek rants inbetween XD As for the match-up, I might think of Luke as stronger then he is as I was sure Maul would bite it. Happy to have been proven wrong!
I'll add a couple points to this discussion. One is purely psychological. I've noticed that when people undergo a grueling experience and overcome it, they are permanently elevated by it. As an example winning a grammy at 18 or something, that does something to the mind, leaves a person with a permanent confidence others after decades of hard work and discipline never achieve, it's just a personal observation i've seen. So post ROTJ Luke has defeated in combat the greatest sith of all time, he would take that into a fight with Maul, and while Maul certainly has all the advantages mentioned in this video, i don't think that psychological advantage can be dismissed lightly, How to quantify it is the real issue. But it would be immense. Second, Lucas himself has said that Luke is the most powerful Jedi to ever live, even more powerful than Yoda and Vader and Palpatine etc. So he was naturally gifted and simply raised himself to the level of whatever fight he was in. We would have to see if his natural talent, his personal confidence from having defeated far superior sith than maul, his limited albeit intense training from obi wan, yoda (and lets call it like it is) vader and palps could overcome the greater experience of a trained jedi assassin. It was mauls job, and he was good at it, to kill jedi, to kill the luke's of the world. However Luke, like it or not, found a way to take down the two sith who killed more jedi than maul could ever have dreamed, exponentially more, inconceivably more, he's not even in their ball park. And Luke did it with a combination of psychologically manipulating his father plus his growing dueling skills. Luke like vader could invade your mind, and he frequently taunted both the emperor and vader, ultimately using the technique vader and dooku had used so successfully over the jedi on them instead and coming out the victor. If we're going Phantom Menace Maul vs POST ROTJ Luke, lets say a month later, i give it to luke because maul has shown psychological weakness and luke would taunt him into a mistake. If we're talking simply ROTJ luke, like a week before he faces Vader, i give it to maul, Luke hasn't passed his trial by fire and come out the victor yet. That's the edge he would need.
+Antoine Bandele one of the best versus series I have seen in a while- I also think you are the only ones in the council forcecast who give Maul enough credit
I have some Star Wars versus fights you could do. How about these: Qui-Gon Jinn vs Obi-Wan Kenobi Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Luke Skywalker Luke Skywalker vs. Galen Marek Darth Maul vs. Anakin Skywalker
I can agree and disagree at the same time. I agree the edge in experience definitely goes to Maul. However, I don't think that enough credit was paid to Luke's mental constitution. It's one thing to be experienced, it allows one to remain calm in the face of a situation like this. Given that we've seen Maul is willing to let his guard down and prematurely gloat over what he perceives to be a win allowing a padawan to cut him in half, I can see the same thing happening when he faces someone that during the golden age of the jedi, would probably be on the level of an advanced padawan had he grown up in the jedi academy. I think that Luke's ability to stay centered in the force gives him an advantage. My feeling is Maul would want to end the fight quickly and get frustrated because Luke could and would stretch it out. Luke's ability at least by Return of the Jedi to slow the pace of the fight would be the thing that helps him win. Just wait for Maul to frustrated, make a mistake and take swift advantage before Maul knew what hit him.
We tend to underestimate what strong with the light side means; we've had chances to witness dark-side tricks like force-lightning and strong blows and stuff, but the light side techniques remain more elusive. I thing Luke is one of the few characters to grasp the extent of the light side and would own Maul. Just remember, light side is about expressing the will of the force, dark side is about manipulating it.
my comment is on comparing force capabilities; for the sake of the video, the parameter of great uncertainty, the force related power, is arbitrarily eliminated. In the past, Maul has been literally owned twice by Kenobi, and Luke is comparable to if not stronger than Kenobi with the light side.
+Daniel Del Villar Ah, that'd be a good one. IMO just cause vader didn't get as strong as he could have, edge would go to Revan, just based on his well roundedness in the force. And if you include Kreia's ramblings in KOTOR 2, her descriptions of Revan being like staring at the 'heart of the force' would make me assume his connection to the force would be at least at broken vader level. edit: Vader probably gets the edge in dueling however.
Well done video. However, I think your forgetting one important issue regarding Maul. His arrogance. He believed in the dark side superiority so much that he was unable to defeat a mere padawan, just because he defeated said padawans master. I think this would play into his fight with Luke and Luke would defeat him. Plus, yeah he was trained to fight Jedi but it was Jedi who only had an understanding about how the Sith from 1000 years ago were. Fighting the new hope for the Jedi, one who was ready for the Sith of the new age, Maul would lose. But it would be a good fight, I say 6 to 4 with Luke winning.
+peterthesneakybastar AOTC Anakin > TPM Kenobi. He has better feats and even if we go purely by canon, Anakin contending with Dooku is enough. The fight between them was supposed to be 75% longer with Anakin actually managing to knock Dooku's blade back, causing it to graze his shoulder.
I kind of detest the Skywalkers lineage. There are Jedi(insert skilled Jedi here) and Sith like Darth Maul that work their butts off to become as skilled and powerful as they are now. Maul may have some talent, but he is extremely skilled through hard work and dedication. I have no doubt Anakin and Luke worked hard to achieve what they got, but overall, their power comes from raw talent(and basically being born with a godlike connection to the force) and this talent seems to tower every Jedi and Sith in existence. And if Rey from Force Awakens is a Skywalker too... well, if you seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. Skywalkers are basically like the Son Gokus of every Vegeta ever if you know what mean. Overall, I'm glad of this outcome. Maul earn it.
+Antoine Bandele I hate how Rey started to uuse the force almost like a pro right away with no training or even knowing how the force works and barely knowing what power it gives
+Kyle messenger of pain/Darth Umbra Same. I hate it when people especially casuals disregard my opinion because they think I'm the nerd that's anger his facts aren't right. It's that I take the time to understand how these things work so I shouldn't have to take shit from someone who doesn't know what a Force wall is.
Agreed. Im no PhD, but TPM Maul must be in his physical prime, so they both would be at their peak, especially in terms of lightsaber duelling, which would be awesome to behold!
+Poop Poop the dude who marched dooku will stomp maul, the most overrated sith of all time, seriously he lost to a Jedi with a bamboo stick and there are guys who argue he can take vader
TheChosen2030 You have to understand though the new Canon has not had time to explore this. Vader undoubtedly did kill many Jedi who survived order 66. Vader is stronger than Maul.
+Spinosaurus Guy Grievous has already proven to be Dooku's inferior likely due in large part to Dooku training the General and knowing his fighting style intimately.
Spinosaurus Guy The form itself is easy to understand but not an individuals fighting style. You are correct that Grievous utilizes all forms but it's possible to gain an understanding of one's fighting style by observing or sparring with them enough.
@@AJJr-hc5lz Shatterpoint only came up in a very circumstantial way against Palpatine and never showed up in a consistent and significant way during Windu's career. Even his Vaapad superconducting loop was also circumstantial. While I see Windu and Maul's skill levels are roughly the same, Windu's contention with Yoda, Dooku and Sidious (even if the loop wad circumstantial, he did bested Sidious with a saber) holds more weight to me. And though I doubt he would be able to achieve the same trance against Maul, he should still be able to reflect Maul's rage against him. Adding in Force Ability, and Windu wins 10/10. Not saying that it's gonna be a stomp; in fact, some of these matches would be rather close. But I don't see any scenario in which Maul could come out alive.
Darth Maul was the most imposing swordsman in the whole series, his skills and agility are unmatched by anyone. Shame on George Lucas for the worst part of plot writing...as if. the Padawan would've (or couldve) surprised someone with unrivaled speed and saber abilities...Lucas deserves a Ginn-like impalement for terrible screen-writing!!!!!
Antoine Bandele it’s just Darth Maul has the potential to b the one of if not the most powerful character in the series Nd had so many character arcs to explore really a waste of a character do him vs windu
And a raging boner for Maul. He compares him to Bruce Lee. Basically the baddest fast human being of the past 5 generations. Maul is not nearly as fast as Bruce Lee, we all saw it. I'm pretty sure he would fall to Ray Park, who isn't one tenth as fast as Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee, such complete BS!
This is a contest I began researching a while ago. From what I remember it is quite close but anything Ventress brings to the fight, Maul can contend with. Maul is more disciplined and in control of himself, whereas Ventress is, as noted by Luminara Unduli, "unrefined, amateurish, sloppy." Ventress does have some skill in Makashi, a fighting style Maul is unfamiliar with. On the other hand if we were to go by their track record of successful Jedi kills then I believe Ventress walks away with that award, especially when one takes into account both canon and legends. Quick martial arts break down: Darth Maul Form VII: Juyo Teras Kasi Form VI: Niman Jar'Kai Form IV: Ataru Asajj Ventress Form IV: Ataru Unarmed Martial Arts Form II: Makashi Jar'Kai Form VI: Niman The only differences being Juyo and Teras Kasi for Maul, and Makashi and an unknown, possibly nightsister in origin, martial art for fighting when unarmed. I would have to give the victory to Darth Maul
Devin Lawrence however in a battle a jedi can only use the force to an extent. maul was destined for greater things. He was killed bcuz he was caught taunting. maul could have learned to be better at the force due to sith having no limits of power when it comes to the force. sith bend an mould the force as jedi follow the force
Lucas once stated that Luke is indeed the most powerful Jedi ever- I doubt he'd fall at the hands of someone like Maul.. let Qui-Gons be by-gone's.. lol
+Antoine Bandele Very impressive. I love all your videos, you do them really well and I agree with nearly every one of your verdicts. If I may make a suggestion, you could try doing ESB Luke Skywalker vs The Grand Inquisitor. Up to you of course but I think it would be interesting considering their level of skill at that time.
lol...this is no contest...Luke is pretty much the best Jedi ever.. if your comparing Luke new hope or empire..Darth maul would probably win. but return Luke or anything after Luke tears maul to pieces
Agreed with Wheeler. George Lucas said it himself - Luke is the most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Matching Luke from ep 6 or 7 is quite unfair. He barely had any sort of training back then! :/
Of course Maul would win: he's been trained since a child. Luke only got lucky against Vader cause Vader held back; not wanting to kill his son. Luke would've gotten destroyed otherwise.
+Talaal Bajwa Kenobi had plot armor during the prequels so that shouldn't count. Let's be honest here: Vader would've destroyed Luke if the hole father doesn't want to kill his son bit held him back.
+Talaal Bajwa I doubt it. Luke better have done stuff on that planet although I'm not expecting Force Unleashed type stuff. I want Kylo Ren to do that: ripping X-Wings out of the air and crushing them like tin cans.
+Talaal Bajwa Are you seriously going to bring up the fact that Obi-Wan as a Padawan defeated Darth Maul? That's a shitty method of trying to downplay Darth Maul as a Light Saber Duelist. Even when Darth Maul killed Qui Gon Jinn, that amped Obi-Wan into a Force Rage, he was still no match for Darth Maul even though he was amped by a Force Rage, you can tell in this last moment between these 2 in The Phantom Menace that Darth Maul is stronger, the best Obi-Wan could do with his Force Rage was kick Darth Maul and snap his Light Saber, but Darth Maul countered many of Obi-Wan's Swings and even kicked him in the face and Force pushed him down the hole. The novelisation of The Phantom Menace also states that a Force Raged Obi-Wan was no match for Darth Maul. ''The battle wore on, and for a time it was fought evenly. But Darth Maul was the stronger of the two and was driven by a frenzy that surpassed even the frantic determination that fueled Obi-Wan. Eventually, the Sith Lord began to wear the young Jedi down. Bit by bit, he pressed him back, carrying the attack to him, looking to catch him off guard. Obi-Wan could sense his body weakening, and his fear of what it would mean if he, too, were to fall, began to grow.'' - Taken from The Phantom Menace Novelisation. And when Obi-Wan was Force pushed down the reactor shaft, Darth Maul had the chance to chance to quickly finish off Obi-Wan but he wasted time taunting him because he believed he already won, he wanted to finish Obi-Wan off slowly to ''savour his victory'', if Obi-Wan stayed in the reactor shaft slightly longer, Darth Maul would've finished him off by Force pushing him down the hole or some other way. Darth Maul only lost that duel because he believed the duel was already over. But if you argue that Obi-Wan is a young Padawan and not a Jedi Knight or a Master, that can easily be debunked because Obi-Wan was ready to become a Jedi Knight and Darth Maul was the rank of a Sith Assassin during The Phantom Menace, basically a guard dog for the Sith, his Sith training was far from complete. And on top of all that, Darth Maul was 22 years old and Obi-Wan was 25 years old and ready to become a Jedi Knight. Obi-Wan didn't defeat Darth Maul because of skill with a Light Saber or power over the Force, Darth Maul was too strong for him, Obi-Wan used his intelligence to outsmart Darth Maul in that situation.
JediGangster9000 Flash Luke is a smart fighter, but that doesn't automatically mean he'll win by using it. The reason why Obi-Wan managed to cut Maul in half was because Maul got cocky in the end of the fight, Maul was way too strong for Obi-Wan to defeat EVEN when provoked by anger, Maul wanted to finish off Obi-Wan slowly because Obi-Wan was no match for him, Maul only finishes off his enemies slowly if they were no match for him such as TPM Obi-Wan, but in this versus match Maul is fighting ROTJ Luke who I would say is more challenging than TPM Obi-Wan and I think Maul would finish off ROTJ Luke quickly because he would be more of a match. Maul gives opponents who are a match for him a quick, painless death as a sign of warrior respect.
Hmmm was hoping you had a rebuttal to the points made in video. No, at the time of _Return of the Jedi_ Luke was not the most powerful Jedi. He defeated Vader with a dark side amp and by way of Vader holding back (also mentioned in the video). Luke's training and experience was designed around facing Vader's style, not Maul's.
This was an interesting match, not exactly how I thought it would turn out, but the reasons you brought up made sense. I'm glad you've been using the non-OP RoTJ Luke, since the Legends Canon Luke really blew his capabilities a bit out of proportion in my opinion. I do agree that Luke would be fighting an uphill battle the whole duration of the fight, but his chances would get better and better as the fight went on. RoTJ Luke isn't especially powerful on paper, but I think that when given a reason to fight he is able to contend with the best. This might indicate why Luke's chances would be so poor in this confrontation, since its taken out of context. I would say that Luke would definitely have a better chance against a post Phantom Menace Maul, without a dual-blade. I would think that in that situation Luke would be able to assess Maul's abilities more easily, and would be able to close the gap much more quickly.
He was using ROTJ Luke who was not all that powerful and would lose to a large amont of Star Wracters. If you talk about GM Luke from post ROTJ then yes you would be right but this guy don't use any post ep 6 stuff that is non canon.
Why would you cap Luke of at ROTJ yet pit him against mauls lifetime of experience. That makes no sense. I am an avid fan and I HAVE done my homework. This match up is like Anakin Skywalker slaying the younglings. They had barely even begun their training. Just like Luke in ROTJ he was basically an infant compared to what he would become.
Coty Stone Luke in ROTJ had great skill and learned how to fight based on past experience. Also all adventures that took place post ep 6 are non canon besides ep 7
no no no no! Luke Skywalker defeated one of the most powerful sith lords Darth Vader. Darth maul is just a sith who still needs some more training. Darth maul can't even beat Vader.
Did you watch the whole video? 1: Maul was a lord. 2: Luke won because Vader was in conflict and not fighting with all his might. 3: Maul is better trained and got more experience. 4: Maul fought and defeated Jedi masters and knights who were in the same leauge as Luke but with more experience. 5: Maul fought Vader in a comic and nearly won. Luke is not going to win here.
+Bruce Jedi Lee the reason Luke doesn't have much experience is because he was not trained well by Yoda and maul had been trained really hard by Darth sidious. Also jar jar binks is not a sith Lord.
Great video as always. The only thing I feel Luke didn't get enough credit for in the end tallies is that as the fight goes on, his willingness to accept the force and place ultimate trust in it would make him stronger and stronger. And despite Maul's talent, Luke's deep connection and instantaneous learning would give him a more overwhelming advantage end fight. I agree with early and mid fight however.
While I believe that tactic would work against someone like Ventress, who would have no suitable answer to Luke's strength. I don't see the same scenario happening to Maul.
The biggest problem with Luke is that he didnt get the formal training till he found a lot of the old order training material in EU. Only so far raw ability and some rushed training will get you.
You forgot to mention that Maul(due to severe training with Sidious and being a Zabarak) was partly immune to force lightning/force stun. Also he was able to adapt to his enemies forms quicker than his enemies could sense his next move(Don't quote me on that). Example: in Phantom Menace, Maul understood and figured out both Obi Wan's and Qui Gon's forms and patterns before moving past the large blast door, which by the way is why Maul moved their fight into that area, already knowing that Qui Gon's stamina was depleting and that Obi Wan was already out matched.
although I completely disagree with the verdict I did enjoy the video and I love your channel also I would like to see count dooku and amon in more of your vs. videos if you can find any suitable opponents for those two

It is even described that Sion's inability to be killed came from controlling the force through huge amounts of rage - just like Maul.
Even if his actual skill levels aren't up to par with some masters, I'd say you're flat out wrong to deny calling him one of the most powerful sith ever.
Actually, I'm pretty sure Kanan Jarrus was the one that knocked him off the side
Maul was nerf in rebels
I see no way Maul can get past Vaapad, plus Windu was just an excellent duelist to begin with and very powerful in the Force, having Shatterpoint making him OP against Sith in canon.
if only this was grandmaster Luke then it would have been a completely other story
Obviously.
robert Turrell It would be like *doge doge Maul gets his legs chopped off* Maul: COME ON!!!
Ronaldjr Montagne Dodge*
yeah but do to him being non-cannon luke isn't what he should be.
Iceican everything is canon on this channel.
Spot on analysis.
Maul just has too much experience and ferocity.
It would be like a street fighter going up against an MMA fighter that was trained and conditioned from birth
+BastermaBoy He meant to fall off. The temple was collapsing and he was trying to escape. He lived anyways.
+BastermaBoy Maul is one of the strongest living force users after the clone wars... He was on par with Darth Vader and could easily force choke someone trained in the ways of the force.. Maul killed over 10 Jedi I really don't see Jinn winning lol Maul didn't even use all of his power.
+Steven Mcdonell Yeah, Ryu would own any MAA fighter
***** Maul would have murdered Kanan in an open field, I have a feeling hes going to kill Kanan which will cause Ezra to go full darkside in anger
jamaine gardner lol of course
Disney Luke: Loses within 5
Legance Luke: Wins within 5
Disney Luke in terms of power is not much different than canon Luke from Return of the Jedi. Legends Luke is just too OP
*legends
Legends Luke is ridiculously powerful. I mean, it makes sense since in Legends he had to fight opponents like Abeloth, but yeah, Legends Luke would wreck Maul.
@@manolgeorgiev9664 he earned it through hard work and years of learning
Canon Luke is also powerful lol he will stomp maul
I would like to see Maul versus Mace Windu.

just watched darth maul apprentice fan film and for some reason it makes me want to watch every verses series with maul in it again.
Hah
every time I watch one of these I come in with a preconception and I walk away with you educating the shit out of me and making me agree with you.
Antoine knows his stuff.
Langdon Carter
That wasn't Maul; it was a clone of Maul and even still he (the clone) clearly had the upper hand against Vader who only won through plot device by impaling himself and then Maul.
Thanks Lisa! Next VS season should be starting mid-Feb.
Totally agree with the verdict. I love how you slice it to pieces and explain every point of fight with logic, thus creating somewhat realistic Swot-analysis :)
Thanks Joni, much appreciated.
Holy moly you have balls. Your verdict makes sense and is well reasoned. I can already see the Skywalker fanboys incoming.
+Jeff Collins The comments section is swarming with them.
+TheNuisanceBird Lol We Have The Same Profile Pic. I Really Don't Give A Shit About Luke. Anakin Is Best Skywalker
***** lol I've always liked Anakin more than Luke. When I was a little kid, I guess Luke although it was mostly due to what his character was on the surface but now Anakin all the way.
As characters. Luke > Anakin for me.
Jeff Collins TCW Anakin will always be my favorite portrayal of the character. I personally find Anakin in the prequels to be highly underrated.
I love your videos dude. :D Usually I don't watch videos this long, but you are doing a nice job to keep it interesting. Keep up the good work! (sry for my english xD)
Thank you Bratwurst. Your English is perfect.
Darth Vader was holding back because Vader didn't want to kill his son.
Play the Force Unleashed games to see Vader no holds bared
Galen wasn't his son so he had an easier time fighting him.
jonny ebrahimy galen was an apprentice, not his son by any means also vader killed galen's father
Luke was holding back until he was angered. Then Vader was pushed to his defenses and crushed.
Vader wasn't holding back. He was going all out. ROTJ comic confirms it.
That Dooku opening to the skill portions was excellently done. While I believe Maul should have gotten the force edge I don't think it makes a huge difference either way. Highly enjoyed the video, great job Antoine.
I think they showcased about the same level of power with the Force, in a combative sense. Thanks William.
Antoine Bandele Well by TPM Maul had shown more precision and control along with greater power in TK. Something I recently was shown though was Luke resisting a direct TK blast from Vader so like I said not really enough to make a difference in the fight.
Guys! We all forgot Lukes most powerfull tool! The power of plot convinience! The plot would never allow Luke to lose!
And plot is Maul's greatest weakness. Damn, good point! Should have mentioned that.
Antoine Bandele what is the chance of exar kun defeating sidious
Tobito you say that as a joke but considering we know most if not all plot convince is directly an action of the force then it wouldn’t be unfair to say that the force naturally lends itself to let Luke have great success
Tobito or just the fact that Vader never intended to kill him in the two fights.
God damn Antoine you're so good at these, you have such a well rounded knowledge of Star Wars rather than being biased or pointing out obvious things, you really go in detail. Great job!
Thanks Kieran.
your analysis could not be more spot on
Thanks, I try.
It really is. This one is one of your better and most well reasoned and presented videos.
If this was before the rein of the Galactic Disney Empire....
Grand-Master Luke would be unstoppable (Even George Lucas stated how Luke was the most powerful Star Wars character).
seriously, he held a black hole open with the force
+Tyler Staley Ya, the expanded universe is a real joke. There were some really good stories; but back then, luke was treated like a fucking wizard. Luke was able to do anything the writers wanted to pull out of their ass.
+luigi180 I must say I agree. I loved Luke's philosophy for the New Jedi Order, but I did not like many of the characters OP power showings.
Antoine Bandele Really makes me wonder what Luke will do now that the rebels are yanking him out of isolation in The Force Awakens.
Keep it up.
Thanks Riku.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Thanks Genuine, that is very, very much appreciated.
Antoine Bandele It's np. I don't want to sound too dramatic but your videos just make life that much better. So thanks again!

Anakin > Zannah. She may be able to draw on Pre-Suit Vader's inner fears, but not Anakin's.
+TheNuisanceBird I disagree. Anakin is still quite unstable; Zannah would probably draw on Anakin's sadness over Shmi's death. Well, in my opinion, at least.
Saesee Bin The only thing Zannah could really draw on would be Padme, although this runs the risk of angering Anakin.

No problem! I'm Jimmy btw. Love your work and would love to work on something similar to these in the future! Love how you break each character into typically 3 facets!
at last i had my revenge :)
+Darth Maul do you like your robot legs?
Xavier Ford not really they lack mobility, but at least these ones are better then those weird mother talzan legs.
at least they make you look taller
You forgot to mention Luke's protagonist plot-armor and Maul's antagonist plot-cancer. Also, I'd imagine George Lucas would stop the fight halfway through and recolor Maul purple or something.
Heh.
+mariochaosspear That's minor, since we are not making another TPM.

Anakin Skywalker vs Darth Maul

+TheNuisanceBird dooku is going to take that fight, maybe rebels maul rematch?
Xavier Ford Wrong comment chain lol
Anakin annihilates Maul
Oh yeah! I've not watched it yet but I've been lookin forward to seein my fav star wars character kick Luke's @$$
You outdone yourself with this one. great job
Thanks Rafael.
Wow, I am a huge Darth Maul fan but very surprised by this outcome you choose.
Certainly not easily.
Love the geek rants inbetween XD
As for the match-up, I might think of Luke as stronger then he is as I was sure Maul would bite it.
Happy to have been proven wrong!
Heh yeah the mini rants were fun. I think it's a good way to get things off my chest but if people want to skip them they can.
Antoine Bandele More geek rants! I always laugh and enjoy them XD

Antoine Bandele Nice

Luke would get...Mauled. Sorry not sorry.
Lol
lol
ba dum tss
Rick Quesada why do you think that?
Darth Maul has Limited Dark Side Force Powers. Luke was trained by Master Yoda, one of the Greatest Jedi Master ever.
this was a respectable analysis. good video.
Thanks Juan, I try.
+Antoine Bandele then that must be some damn good trying. keep it up!
I felt this was over from the start
Thanks Jaden. I definitely needed a wake up call with regards to Maul.
dude u have got to do those mini rants more often!!!
I have some Star Wars versus fights you could do. How about these:
Qui-Gon Jinn vs Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker vs. Galen Marek
Darth Maul vs. Anakin Skywalker
+The Batman Of Neo-Gotham I'd like to see him do Darth Maul vs Anakin Skywalker the most out of the ones you listed.
Yousuf Khan™ Cool beans.
The Batman Of Neo-Gotham LOL what beans?
Yousuf Khan™ The best kind. :)
The Batman Of Neo-Gotham Ohhh OK.
Great Video Extremely Well Thought Out As Usual
The hell happened with observing both combatants in their prime?
He did.
I did not.
Antoine Bandele You did (for Luke at least)
This was not Luke at his prime.
Antoine Bandele Well when is it?
We tend to underestimate what strong with the light side means; we've had chances to witness dark-side tricks like force-lightning and strong blows and stuff, but the light side techniques remain more elusive. I thing Luke is one of the few characters to grasp the extent of the light side and would own Maul. Just remember, light side is about expressing the will of the force, dark side is about manipulating it.
Very vague. We are talking about combative prowess based on combative showings.
my comment is on comparing force capabilities; for the sake of the video, the parameter of great uncertainty, the force related power, is arbitrarily eliminated. In the past, Maul has been literally owned twice by Kenobi, and Luke is comparable to if not stronger than Kenobi with the light side.
do darth revan vs darth vader
+Daniel Del Villar Good fight. Would love to see it.
Maaaybe.
+Daniel Del Villar I like the idea but I kinda see Revan speed blitzing Vader or force lightning-ing the hell outta him! ;-)
+Antoine Bandele IN DARTH SIDOUS VOICE DOOOOO ITTTT
+Daniel Del Villar Ah, that'd be a good one. IMO just cause vader didn't get as strong as he could have, edge would go to Revan, just based on his well roundedness in the force. And if you include Kreia's ramblings in KOTOR 2, her descriptions of Revan being like staring at the 'heart of the force' would make me assume his connection to the force would be at least at broken vader level.
edit: Vader probably gets the edge in dueling however.
Anakin was away stronger than luke physically
Agreed.
Christina Mohil that’s up for debate
George Lucas said that both had the same force potential
Luke Skywalker for the win
Man, I love your videos and your passion for star wars it almost rivals mine... Almost!
Thanks PK.
+Patrick Michaelsen This is addressed in the video.
Antoine your thoughts on a versus vid between AOTC Anakin and TPM Obi Wan
+peterthesneakybastar Great fight. I'd go Anakin personally.
Very funny you mention that. Next season I plan a three-way between TPM Obi-Wan, AOTC Anakin and another apprentice ;)
Antoine Bandele Bet it's Barriss or Ahsoka. :P
William Henning More than likely Ahsoka. Wasn't Barriss a Knight by the time she fought Anakin?
as always a great video! keep it up!
Thanks Shafkat.
I understand where you are coming from, especially with regards to Rey.
What about Darth Maul vs Mace Windu
Great episode! Anakin Skywalker vs. Darth Maul would be epic!
Now that would be cool. My money is on Darth Maul. But Antoine could prove me wrong.
Anakin and Maul need a bit of a break.
+Antoine Bandele I do agree, but I hope to see them go head to head sometime :)
Zeo the MVP TPM Maul. Antoine isn't using TCW Maul anymore.
Agreed. Im no PhD, but TPM Maul must be in his physical prime, so they both would be at their peak, especially in terms of lightsaber duelling, which would be awesome to behold!
Episode 3 Anakin (Pre-Darkside) vs Darth Maul

No...No, Luke was dueling Darth Vader. You may have heard of him and his accomplishments, as well as the number of Jedi he defeated.
***** friend, that is not cannon any more.
we'll see what happens in Star Wars Rebels. He could easily fend off Ashoka
TheChosen2030 You have to understand though the new Canon has not had time to explore this. Vader undoubtedly did kill many Jedi who survived order 66. Vader is stronger than Maul.
damn, it's nice to see how you improve from video to video
Thanks Aaron, much appreciated.
You Should Do Dooku Vs General Grievous Next!!!!!
+Spinosaurus Guy Grievous has already proven to be Dooku's inferior likely due in large part to Dooku training the General and knowing his fighting style intimately.
William Henning Grievous Doesn't Really have a Specific Fighting Style. Dooku's Style is Easy to Know, as He Only Uses One Form.
Spinosaurus Guy The form itself is easy to understand but not an individuals fighting style. You are correct that Grievous utilizes all forms but it's possible to gain an understanding of one's fighting style by observing or sparring with them enough.
William Henning Grievous was Observing and sparring with Dooku as Much as Dooku Did.
Spinosaurus Guy Fair enough but given Dooku was the instructor here he would not need to reveal as much as Grievous would.
Darth Maul vs Mace Windu.
ruclips.net/video/Pgh3KpJc7PA/видео.html
Antoine Bandele I want to hear you do it.
Windu stomps. Shatter point and his variant of form 7 alone makes him unstoppable against a sith.
Great video dude.
Thanks Luke.
He's definitely skilled but he's not _the_ most imposing or skilled swordsman in the series (the actor was, but not the character).
He played Toad too, it was jus kinda fake...he was dog-walkin both at once. Idk jus my opinion
Antoine Bandele it’s just Darth Maul has the potential to b the one of if not the most powerful character in the series Nd had so many character arcs to explore really a waste of a character do him vs windu
Sorry but Luke world win, hands down.

+Will Scarborough No kidding.
Rick Quesada See above comment.
Cory Layman So Bruce Lee can land a thousand attacks in a minute or move as a blur then?
do darth maul vs asajj ventress
+tailsdoesminecraft They're right, he does
It'd be a decent fight, but Maul would win 8/10.
Quick martial arts break down:
Darth Maul
Form VII: Juyo
Teras Kasi
Form VI: Niman
Jar'Kai
Form IV: Ataru
Asajj Ventress
Form IV: Ataru
Unarmed Martial Arts
Form II: Makashi
Jar'Kai
Form VI: Niman
The only differences being Juyo and Teras Kasi for Maul, and Makashi and an unknown, possibly nightsister in origin, martial art for fighting when unarmed.
I would have to give the victory to Darth Maul
Nice video, can tell you put a lot of work into it.
Thanks Kevsky.
luke would win maul has no chance
Based on?
Devin Lawrence hold on maul has more experience with a lightsaber
+darth maul he may have more experience but luke uses the force better and a better duel
+darth maul dueller
Devin Lawrence however in a battle a jedi can only use the force to an extent. maul was destined for greater things. He was killed bcuz he was caught taunting. maul could have learned to be better at the force due to sith having no limits of power when it comes to the force. sith bend an mould the force as jedi follow the force
Luke would ACE Maul like Obi Wan did only with a dash of Anakin and Maul would be well- mauled
+A. M.B. Wait what?
yanno, Luke would face off Maul similarly to how Obi Wan did, only with the force potential &'crude matter' of Anakin..
A. M.B. Luke didn't use his Force abilities as much as Anakin and doesn't have anything Maul wouldn't have an answer to.
Lucas once stated that Luke is indeed the most powerful Jedi ever- I doubt he'd fall at the hands of someone like Maul.. let Qui-Gons be by-gone's.. lol
A. M.B. Is there a quote for that?
+Antoine Bandele Very impressive. I love all your videos, you do them really well and I agree with nearly every one of your verdicts. If I may make a suggestion, you could try doing ESB Luke Skywalker vs The Grand Inquisitor. Up to you of course but I think it would be interesting considering their level of skill at that time.
Thanks Jor-Dan. You should check out my latest video previewing next season's match ups.

Death Note
SSHHHHH...calm your selves...Lelouch has this. He thought of it before he was born...
lol...this is no contest...Luke is pretty much the best Jedi ever.. if your comparing Luke new hope or empire..Darth maul would probably win. but return Luke or anything after Luke tears maul to pieces
ROTJ Luke > TPM Maul based on? I see no points made in your comment, just baseless statements.
Agreed with Wheeler. George Lucas said it himself - Luke is the most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Matching Luke from ep 6 or 7 is quite unfair. He barely had any sort of training back then! :/
Lucas is referring to Grandmaster Luke, not RoTJ Luke so you're both still wrong.
You either know nothing about Maul or think Luke was already grand master level in ep 6. Luke at that time has no feats that puts him on that level
Luke at that time has no feats placing him at that level of strength.
VG Versus?! I'm excited.
VG + TV. Yes.
+Yousuf Khan™ Hold on than wouldn't Luke use his intelligence to out smart Maul, it was started that Luke was a smart Jedi/fighter.
I think Luke wound win
I agree 3/10 times but what is your reasoning based on?
well Luke is the most powerful Jedi and he beat dearth Vader on the death star
Hmmm was hoping you had a rebuttal to the points made in video. No, at the time of _Return of the Jedi_ Luke was not the most powerful Jedi. He defeated Vader with a dark side amp and by way of Vader holding back (also mentioned in the video). Luke's training and experience was designed around facing Vader's style, not Maul's.
well I think Luke could overpower maul with the force as for maul did not use the force as much and was not as power with it
Maul made more use of the combative use of the Force (again, as highlighted in the video).
I never fancied post-ROTJ Luke in terms of his power levels. _Loved_ his philosophies for the New Jedi Order though.
Mual would destroy sky walker
Nope
I had a feeling it would be Maul.
Great stuff, I have a few suggestions if you're interested:
Luke Vs Obi Wan
Luke Vs Ahsoka
Ahsoka Vs Obi Wan
Keep up the great content! :)
Thanks Smith.
+GeneralJSmith luke vs ashoka more better
luke will destroy maul in the midfight
Based on?
Luke Skywalker is the most powerful jedi master ever... Do your homework.
+Bruce Jedi Lee Disney has ruined my childhood yet again...
Coty Stone Overreaction at its finest
When did Darth Maul have a movie?
no no no no!
+Bruce Jedi Lee I wish luke was in the clone wars.
Roddrick Carter Well he wasn't born yet
+Bruce Jedi Lee the reason Luke doesn't have much experience is because he was not trained well by Yoda and maul had been trained really hard by Darth sidious. Also jar jar binks is not a sith Lord.
Roddrick Carter He was trained well by Yoda he just left to early.
One of the best videos I've seen. 5 stars.
Thanks dude, much appreciated.
The Luke that showed up at the end of the second season of the Mandalorian, would wipe the floor with him.
although I completely disagree with the verdict I did enjoy the video and I love your channel
also I would like to see count dooku and amon in more of your vs. videos if you can find any suitable opponents for those two
