So you're saying it's practically an American phone, then how come the iPhone is so far behind in terms of innovation and technology, while being significantly more expensive?
Huawei will not only survive this American nonsense, but will become much bigger. They've been working on their own OS for like 7 years now, and it's going to be a huge thereat for Android cause all Chinese phone manufacturers may turn to it. Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Lenovo, 1+ (and many others) - they've proven to the Western world that innovation and quality can come in lower price, so guess what's the average consumer going to choose.

  • @bengt_axle

Android is a linux -based operating system that was (and still is) open source. Google built upon it to develop Google Android, which it makes available for installation on smartphones, by licensed users, in order to give access to its services and store. So if any smartphone builder were to take the open source version of Android, it would not be that difficult to make a customized OS for its phone (like Samsung's Tizen). Banning Huawei from the US will push them to develop their own OS, which might end up eating away into Google's offerings, and ultimately hurt Alphabet, Google's parent company.

Realistically speaking, Android is not the end all even though it's a juggernaut in the mobile world. There are alternatives like Sailfish and in Apple's case it's entire ecosystem from hardware to software, to services. If Apple can exist as a closed source OS, this further cements the rationalisation of there being another Apple in the world. Huawei had the resources to do so. It may not be as successful as pioneering Apple, in the short term, but we have come to realise that they don't play the short game...
