Mario Maker with all of the Miiverse functionality. Or more egregiously, one of the recent Mario vs DK games had miiverse functionality that was used to unlock some stuff for that game's level editor, so now that miiverse is gone the level editor will forever be gimped.
Or the many games (like Super Mario 3D World or Yoshi's Wooly World) where you're encouraged to go out of your way to earn stamps, which are now all totally useless.
@Javier m if I can remember correctly, the stamps were necessary to get 100% in the game and you would use them as little drawings you could post on miiverse and show others
Dequan Milete wouldnt matter what he said. He coukd say the most brain dead obvious comment like most personalities do when they comment on other videos and the public will upvote them like crazy. People need to think for themselves.
Mario wacky world's was technically never fully playable, same goes for VB Mario Kart. The roulette machine is apparently still available in some parts of Japan. I like your content, but these technically don't fit the title of your list. You said "can't play anymore" yet the first two I mentioned were never playable, and the 3rd I mentioned is still available (very hard to find, but doable)
I disagree, I think it fits this title very well, and I'm pretty sure you can't play the roulette machine because they don't have it at arcades anymore (at least I've never seen them at arcades, and unless you're really good at finding). I might not even be able to find one on Ebay because they're so rare and weren't very good back in the day. Plus it's a waste of time just searching for them and a lot of money too (if you were to buy it off of Ebay).
Ti Richardson dude, Nintendo hasn't updated the Virtual Console in forever. I bet you're one of those guys that think Zelda & Metroid are the main character's names.
Title: "5 Mario games you can't play anymore" > Starts video with stipulation: can't play in it's intended format. > #1: Unreleased game. You couldn't play this one to begin with, "anymore" doesn't apply here. > #2: Rare game. It can still be played. > #3: Unreleased game. See #1. > #4: This is the first game listed that falls under the video's title and we're already close to the end of the list. > #5: This game also falls under what the title claims. I only counted 2 Mario games you can't play anymore. (1 if you ignore the stipulation.) Where's the other 3? Misleading titles are against the TOS, and I wish RUclips would stop cluttering my homepage with stuff like this.
I remember seeing a MarioKart game for VB on display at Blockbuster in the 90's. About 2 years later when they were on clearance at Toys R Us I got one and was unable to find the game and thought it may have never came out, but I remember seeing it.
I actually still have exactly that CD-I as shown in the video, including Hotel Mario and one of the Zelda games. Didn't know that unfinished Mario game was a thing though, and i'm glad about it.
This is why I appreciated the International Center for the History of Electronic Games, and other organizations that dedicate themselves to collecting and preserving games as they were intended to be played. It's nice to know at least some of us care about video games as an artistic medium.
Definitely some interesting finds! 1. Super Mario's Wacky Worlds 2. Super Mario Brothers YM-901 3. VB Mario Kart 4. Mario Roulette 5. BS Super Mario USA
Rho-star MKL They had a BS Super Mario Collection. Week 1 was SMB1, Week 2 & 3 were Super Mario Bros 3, Week 4 is unknown but some people say it's Lost levels.
There was a SMB fangame, along the lines of the Super Mario All-Stars SMB1 redux called Super Mario Forever. The worlds weren't completely balanced (I think one had two levels and another five); but the level concepts were really magnificent; and while the physics weren't spot-on perfect; they definitely had a distinct "classic Mario feel" about them and worked with the level designs extremely well. But for some reason (likely a C&D or DMCA strike), it's been taken offline, never to be seen from again; lost to the sands of obscurity. Another of these that's really hard to find now, but was less obscure was called "Mushroom Kingdom Fusion;" and played like a Super Mario-style mashup of games/concepts, with a big selection of characters to play as; and each of them with a MegaMan Suit version... Mario and Luigi would become MegaMan Mario and ProtoMan Luigi as you'd expect; but for example, Ryu Hayabusa would become ShadowMan Hayabusa, Sonic would become QuickMan Sonic and Tails would become GyroMan Tails as well. Once DMCA attacks against titles like "Breath of the NES," "PokeMon Fusion," and "AM2R" came out, the devs abandoned work on what was already a very impressive and extensive game; likely related to the fact that GameMaker 8 and Windows 7 (which it was developed on/for) became dated; and they went on to more "professional" projects of their own.
Technically the last one is similar to the Super Mario Advance one that also has Mario brothers in it so its technically not unplayable of course and hopefully these can come back in some way if we contact Nintendo of course which would be hard!
Correction on the Satelliview: It wasn't through the Internet, per se, the data/audio was transmitted over a satellite radio channel, (St.Giga) hence where they got the realtime voice acting and such, and why it could only be played at certain times a day.
i actually own a prototype disc that came with my development cdi-450 console.. its looks to be about 95% complete with only a few glitchy ramps/obstacles.. im pretty sure its the only one in existence since the dumped cd image is the one that everyone can download and play
You should add Mario's Castle an unreleased Mario game for Nintendo's cancelled Atlantis handheld that may or may not have existed. The only reference ever to this Mario game existing was in an old issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly and the game's title and intended platform are all that's known about it
6:10 It wasn't internet based, ST Giga was a satelite radio station that teamed up with Nintendo to create the peripheral that is actually a satelite modem. You downloaded the games from the satelite, but, when the end of 19's came, the radio station stopped with Nintendo because they had teamed up with a japanese TV service. Nowadays there's emulators to play these forgotten games, and if you still own the peripheral, and visit the hub-world, almost everything will be non-functionable.
I went to an arcade/billiards hall in the Philippines once and there was a coin-op Mario and Yoshi kiddie ride with a kinda-sorta game inside of it. Couldn't get a sense of the story, as it was in Japanese.
That VB version of Mario Kart pretty much does exist. It practically looks like the SNES game that WAS publicly released! As for a Super Mario Bro’s 2; that one isn’t the legit version that was or was meant to be released. There were problems encountered with the original game so they took another game and simply substituted existing sprites and story with a more Mario Bro’s design which explains why it’s so different compared to other early Mario game’s. If anything; the ‘ORIGINAL’ Super Mario Bro’s 2 for the Famicom/NES should be included in the list. And as seen with Star Fox 2 having been released for the Super Nintendo Classic Edition console; there are a great many games which were supposedly incomplete that could actually exist in one form or another and are just collecting dust someplace or locked up in some vault somewhere (perhaps needing some simple tweaks here and there if unfinished). So there is some hope that we may see more unreleased and/or low availability games in the future.
#4 doesn't even work in MAME because it's protection chip isn't emulated at the moment, I believe. Seeing as how the devs have been working on that sorta stuff recently (see the decapping project), I don't think it'll be long before Mario Roulette works in MAME.
yes the wii shop channel is being shut down whenever you'd download a game, you'd get a li'l mario animation to show loading progress. once every three downloads or so, you'd get a fire mario you could control the fireballs. that's kinda counts as a mario game and I was kind of expecting it on this list.
I wonder if Nintendo could bring back BS Mario 2 when the Switch online service launches. I think it’d be pretty cool to play it online. Complete with all the extras it had
Unfortunate that BS Mario doesn't work properly, because I believe that BS Legend of Zelda works fine. There's even carts of it that people have made that work on the hardware. Mike and James (AVGN) did a video where they played it.
This really does go to show you that despite everything Nintendo has kept up a pretty good job of making the Older games available through out the generations. The only Mario game to not get a re-release published by Nintendo is Super Mario Sunshine which stayed on the Gamecube. All the other games seemed to have obtained some sort of re-release or are still available for purchase even Mario Vs and Mario Bros Arcade games. The only other one would be Super Mario Bros Special which can still be played today. But Mario Sunshine is stuck on the Gamecube and hasn't been on the market for years, so to play that game you either have to go through mom and pop shops, ebay, or other conventional means. It's no wonder people through a fit about Gamecube Emulation for Switch.
I'd love that artwork! EDIT: Hold on, that Super Zelda Land reminds me of a particular Mario piece, very similar poses, colours and all. SuperCaterina I think?
For a minute there, I thought this was going to be a clickbait vid that would make me shake my fist and curse out Nintnedo like I usually do. Thankfully, we had good reasons.
You can play some of the Game & Watch Games, they made modern versions for the Gameboy and one for the Gameboy Advance, plus having their originals in those games plus :D
I heard about some Mario Party spin-offs that only exist in the form of arcade machines in Japan or so. I would really like to try them out, be it with an emulator or not, because I doubt they're just light versions of already existing Mario Party games.
2 Unreleased games 1 Japan Arcade Machiene 1 Special Edition of a widely available game 1 Emulatable Satellaview Game Not really 5 games you can't play "anymore"
A correction to you, Mr. Beardy Nintendo Man! The Bandai Satellaview _didn't_ use the internet, and worked by streaming data (one way) over a satellite television connection. Much like that similar service for the Sega Genesis that used a cable TV thingy. Being neither Japanese nor American I must say I'm not incredibly familiar with either system.
I can't play Mario's Picross, Super Mario Land 1 & 2, Yoshi's Cookie, Mario's Tennis, & Mario Clash for both the Game Boy & Virtual Boy because they don't sell those consoles/games in stores anymore and they're insanely expensive on Ebay.
Ever heard of used game stores or the Virtual Console on 3DS? You're probably out of luck with the Virtual Boy stuff, though. Even used game stores don't usually have such obscure merchandise available.
Actually, alot of Gameboy games are available cheap on the 3DS Eshop. Including some obscure ones like "Burger Time Deluxe," "Avenging Spirit," "Mole Mania," "Kirby's Star Stacker," and many others.
In 30 years, there will be lists like this. But it'll be top 2,000 online-only games you will never be able to play again. So long nostalgia, single-player experiences, and physical media. It's an EA future.
When the virtual boy was expected to be a hit and Nintendo tried to market it before its failure i got a brochure thing that showed alot of games slated for future release. I remember a James Bond racing game and Waterworld as well, but then the thing quietly became unpopular reather quickly.

Hotel Mario. If remade for the main systems for a low e-shop price. But then again: “All toasters toast toast.”
I heard about BS Super Mario USA and tried to play it once
Good thing you can't play this. (especially b/c of the name)
