That awkward moment when you realize "Ghoul Medal" is just a play on the words "gold medal", and that you spent your entire childhood chasing after an awful pun.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT
R.i.p
I noticed it immediately hahahaha
Bruhhh I wasted my childhood
did nobody here have dads? this was p obvious even as a kid imo
i remember trying to jump over the grassy hill in Mario 64 to see if the race track was really on the otherside as if mario kart and mario 64 like coexisted with each other for some reason haha.

Me too, in fact, as I stood in front of the hills listening to the world around me, I thought I heard the distant sounds of race karts. Now, of course, I know it was just the constant sounds of the waterfall that inspired my imagination...
holy shit i did that too
TheRetroCube64 you might be psychotic it sounds like but I’m nawt a dawctahhh
" from pretending we were Pokémon trainers, to having Cloud only battles..."
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I remember hearing "If you beat the running man in Ocarinca of Time, he gives you a letter that allows you to enter the Sky Temple" as a kid I tried to beat him, but never could. I later found the rumor wasn't real, as it was just cut content and the running man part was just left in the game
No the running man was only training for the master quest that came out later and also made u learn how to get around faster the creater said this in a interview
@@youngskennels5381 maybe the bunny hood was left in the game because of this as well and also why they made the bunny hood make you run fast in Majora's Mask
I used to bring Link to corners in rooms to have him use the bathroom after i finished the game's story. That's how bored I'd get travelling Hyrule
I remember kicking the big mirror in SM64 about a hundred times before I realized it was never going to break.
buhahahaha
Alucard8319 Rumor had it something was back there!
Donny Lurch -
There's actually a star behind the mirror in the DS version, if you didn't know.
Good thing too, you almost got 7 years of bad luck!
BidwellRunner you mean seven years of MAMA LUIGI
All my damn childhood trying to get through the door that's on Hyrule's Castle on the right side, near to the place that we usually sneak into.
Theory: The Cave in Bomberman 64 was originally supposed to lead to a Bomb Upgrade that got deleted late into Development.
Very unlikely, the game has no upgrades (it's the second one that revolves around them), and this world isn't particularly special. One of the Bomberman communities was discussing this maybe 10 or so years ago; I think the most likely theory was that it was just a cave area cut for time or streamlining
The interesting thing about the door is that it's remarkably skinny and tall, almost five Bombermen high if you rip the models
Oh hey bro!
Simpler times. Wish I could go back for one summer day
I was genuinely sad once I completed Ocarina of time
Me too, bro, but the thing is, my papa wouldn't buy me Majora's Mask unless I beat OoT. lol
I feel you dude, best game ever!!
I tryed my hardest in every zelda game to do everything before i end the game and it always feels wierd, like all of those adventures are finally over an the credits just roll infront of you wile youremember all those good moments...feels bad to end the adventure
@@xtreamg5739 Right?! Before completing my first playthru I made sure I had everything.. all hearts/pieces, all four bottles, all 100 gold Skultullas.. everything...After the credits rolled in OoT and you get the freeze frame of Link&Zelda in the Hyrule Castle Garden which fades to sepia, I just couldn't believe it was over. There *had to be more* I waited hours, even left my N64 power on hoping, _wishing_ to get the "Your new quest starts now" message to appear on screen.

- The Windmill Door in Diddy Kong Racing
- Entering Peaches Castle on Mario Kart
- Unlocking Charizard & Mewtwo on Super Smash Bros N64
Whitefright YES
I forgot all about the windmill door in Diddy Kong racing. My older brother and I spent what seemed like years trying to get inside there... No luck though..
oh yeah the mario kart one XD those memories
Whitefright geez I thought I was the only kid to think about entering Peach’s Castle in MK64. 😄😄😄😄
The windmill in Diddy Kong Racing turned into a rocket after getting all the trophies in the tournament races, the rocket then takes you to the final area, Wiz Pigs Spaceship with crazy looking courses and the final race against Wiz Pig himself.
I always thought that the picture of Peach on top of Peaches castle was a picture you could go into.. I’m surprised this was never a thing people thought. Obviously at the end of the game you can get on top of there but you can’t go inside :(.
I swear I came to read the comments just to see if anyone was talking about it! I thought the exact same thing as a child!
Jorge Gonçalves I’m pleasantly surprised there are others like me who thought this! Lol. There was much disappointment when I found out you couldn’t. :(.
When we were getting all 120 stars, that’s what we assumed the reward was. It made perfect sense. It’s a game about going into paintings, and we guessed correctly that the cannon unlocked after 120. When we finally did it, the first thing we did was launch Mario directly at it to no avail. Took us a good while after that to figure out what the cannon was actually for
Chase was so upsetting. I thought there would be some sort of stage with peach in it or something, but when you think about it now it’s kinda silly. Made sense back then though.
Chase if I was making a ROM hack, I would make that a thing lol.
The Ice key :(

Jeremy Abbott I always heard mewtwo was playable and tried for so long lol the hand as well
I actually looked more for Peach and Bowser on SSB, I had so much fun doing rituals with Master Hand, Mario and Luigi?
I distinctly remember me and my friend in 2nd grade, discussing unlocking Luigi in SSB64. His words: Beating the game on Very Hard mode, one life, without dying. This was while we were using the urinal.
Just a memory that always pops up when that game is mentioned lol
In Mario Kart 64, on the race track with peach's castle, my cousin and I would spend hours getting items to shoot down the door to the castle to get in. Good times... Good times...
Ha, totally did this too!
+Link2ThePast95 Same here :)
My god I remember that shit
+Link2ThePast95 I definitely remember trying to get into the castle thinking there was a secret course from mario 64.
I tried that when I little. I also tried to knock open Peach's door open. I miss my childhood days.
I remember that Sky Temple hoax. I was feeling like some anime hero that just saved the earth (or just a lil' boy that finished the game) and then a new antagonist arrived. I miss these day. FeelsBadMan :(
I haven't forgot my 64, it's still setup to the TV and I still adore playing it.
I wish modern games could have fun stuff like this.
The feelings from exploring these cryptic hoaxes and mysteries was simply so much fun and very nostalgic.
Maybe kids now have some rumors about Odyssey
Ghoul Medal = Gold Medal. It was nothing more then a comdic play on words.
+Aurelian "I spent countless hours trying to figure this one out."
Should have spent a couple minutes reading a dictionary -_-
MrV902 well the fact that he didnt mention 'and now i know that its just a play on words' so i dont think he realized it still...
You guys are idiots.
Yup this one bordered on insanity lol. As much as I empathize with this guy on obsessing over in-game secrets and easter eggs.... he just went way too far with this one. And common, it’s clearly just a bad play on words.
Sour Lemon we're idiots because someone else doesn't realize something thats painfully obvious?! How fucking logical!
i think that 'Ghoul Medal' is a bad pun on 'gold medal''
yeah it's super obvious lol
In Super Mario 64 is anyone available to unlock Luigi?
Retro Gaming Network I don’t understand what you mean, there is no Luigi. SM64 has had every one of its assets explored and there’s no trace of anything Luigi-related.
The only thing that comes close is the original plan for the game to have multiplayer.
@@tuser8 It's a joke
It is.
*headdesk*
I wish modern games would make us search for secrets like the N64 did.
The internet ruined it, but also saved it

I highly disagree. There's just a wider range for bad games. Be happy that gaming has come so far that you have thousands upon thousands of games to choose from.
Thorkill the Red you can just destroy your router
basically games need to live up the breath of the wild's standards to get the same effect now lol
This is one of my favorite vids and I had to come back and watch it again years later. I discovered Swanky through this video and it connected with my inner child instantly. This is a ride through history. Keep on reconnecting people with their childhoods with incredible content swanky!
I remembered trying to find a hidden pyramid in the gerudo desert.
When i was 8 i had a friend that always bullshited me about Mario 64, he told me that Wario hidden in lots of level. I would follow his instruction, then one day he admitted he made all that up XD
But is now is the DS version of Super Mario 64. Seems to be a theme when it comes to this.
lol yeah somehow mario 64 Ds made alot of those rumours a reality like being able to play luigi or yoshi
I'm glad I'm no t the only one that heard this. Anything about a yellow cap?
I liked to my friends about Bomberman 64. I told them, you could get a yoyo weapon.
Mario Kart 64 I spent hours trying to race Bowser's castle backwards on time trials in hopes of unlocking the imprisoned Green Thwomp.
I also spent WAY too much time desperately trying to find the final Diddy Kong racing Key. That one, while it DID exist, left me stumped for years to the point where I had nightmares about it

I always thought you could explore all of Grunty's Lair in Banjo-Tooie when I was a kid,I thought that collecting all of the Jiggies and Cheato pages would remove the rocks blocking the rest of Grunty's Lair,I never collected all of the Jiggies (Thanks to that dumb race in the sky world),so I always tried to glitch through the rocks, but always failed.
+64ios Well, I'm 99.9% sure you can't, but I'll get back to you on that once I 100% B-T. (Almost 100%ed B-K!)
+The Lugman If you glitch through the rocks you'll just go out of the map. all the worlds from Banjo Kazooie were removed.. the lobby whee cherato is is all that's left.
+64iOS Same here. I actually thought the fifth Cheato Cheat was to remove the boulders from Gruntilda's Lair. But that wasn't the case. I've tried to get behind the boulders as well, but I saw a video someone made showing that there really isn't anything behind the boulders. What a shame. I guess it would be pointless returning to old worlds that you completed in the last game.
+64iOS And what about the big hole above Witchyworld ?!
What big hole above Witchy World?

I think if there's one thing lot of these early 3D games accomplished, it's that the games encouraged kids to use their imaginations. For those of us who remember it, the transition from 2D sprites to 3D polygons was huge, still the biggest transition in gaming to date. For those of us who were too young to understand hardware limitations and a game's development process (having lots of stuff cut out during development or having lots of useless stuff left in), the possibilities of what could be hidden in a game was endless.

Finally someone shows Glover a little love
Fuck glover
Glover was my shit
I rented Glover from Blockbuster once and after that - never again. Failed game.
Never played Glover as a kid...I think my brother rented it from our blockbuster once though. Ahhh good times..kids the days will never get to experience things like that.
Ya gotta love the glove!
Glover was my absolute favorite as a kid. Scaling that castle and just sitting on the ledge looking around was my version of sitting on the hyrule gate. Big ball, low gravity, powerball and call ball, getting to the tippy top of that castle and trying to see if I could get through that castle door with the "open all portals/doors" cheat, trying to bring a crystal to the top peak or through the door. I'm still convinced they must have had some plans for that door because of the way the castle was built up in steps to be able to get to the top.
The invisible path actually sounds like a level name you would hear in Bomberman 64.
While not an N64 rumour, Pokémon Red and Blue was riddled with them. From moving the truck in Vermillion City with Strength to discover Mew to finding a hidden path behind Bills house. Lots of fun with the theories that came and went.
Tentacle Touchy Totally. We didn't own many games for Gameboy so we spent a ton of time on Pokémon Blue. I remember the first two, but I don't recall the one about the hidden path however. Part of why I love talking to people about this is because while generally there is some overlap, there were plenty of other mysteries that people tackled that I wasn't even aware of. Discovering new ones is always pretty neat.
Hold A+B+Down! ;~p
The best thing about getting Mew in Pokémon R/B/Y is that the method is just as absurd as the most complicated hoaxes were.
ElliotKeaton But you could get Mew, it's a hex error.
@@ridersonthestorm666 Nintendo employees could trade it to you at conventions as well...Missingno on the other hand was a cheat. Also when the first Pokémon movie came out there were a lot of rumours of how to get the 'pokegods' such as 'Pichablue' (no points on who that was). There was a guide on gamefaqs that said to get them you had to defeat the elite four a large number of times (possibly 50 but can't remember) without healing or swapping your team out. Even at a young age I realised the hoaxyness of this as even 1 shotting every Pokémon would be 24 hits per clear resulting in over 1000 attacks. So even with a maxed out team by the end of it all your attacks are just going to be flail and is never going to work.
EDIT: appears that the faq was removed at some point of the last 2 decades.
+SwankyBox Great video. I love the long opening about not being spoiled by the internet and imagination. Nostalgia. I was so immersed in games back then with lesser graphics than I am now in games with realistic graphics.
It can be really hard avoiding spoilers when people put things in thumbnails and you haven't even clicked on the video. It's great then when you can avoid spoilers, especially emotional story parts when I can then cry my sorry heart out and be connected with the characters.
Same, honestly. It was so much easier to get immeresed in a game's world when we were younger.
Hylian Ticipated I agree bro so many times I see Easter eggs spoiled and playable character lists and whatnot when a game releases I just wish I could shut myself out of the internet and go back to those good old days
It doesn't help that your sense of wonder just kind of fades as you get older. I have to go through a ceremony to get the same experience that I had as a child. I have to actually sit by myself, in a dark room, with my headset on, just to get immersed nowadays. Back then I just turned on my old school dinosaur of a tv and sat on the floor in broad daylight
@hylian cool story bro.
You can unlock master hand in melee, it's just a glitch though.
+Zack Wheelhouse (popscotch112) That's not exactly _unlocking_ then but interesting nonetheless
How come people refer to it as a glitch, even though he has a full moveset?
+The Silver Tunist Do you know what a glitch is?
+ImDemonAlchemist
I know what a glitch is. I didn't realize that they were potentially using the moveset for testing and forgot to completely remove him. Most glitches don't have full graphical characters with a full moveset, so I just wondering. I think that's sensible enough for you to not treat me like a fool, thank you.
+The Silver Tunist Just because it has a fully programmed moveset wouldn't mean it wasn't a glitch. It can only be accessed by a glitch or hacking. That makes it a glitch.
This brings back memories. This stuff was like 20 years ago I can't remember what I've done but I do know in Zelda I walked every inch to find all the holes in the grass, and Donkey Kong 64 trying to find all the rainbow coins (yes, people like me knew about that rainbow coin hidden in the grass shortly after the game released). I also walked every single wall, I think, if not then shot walls, because of the invisible wall in multiplayer.
the master hand was the only one of these mysteries that I spent FOREVER trying to get.
DoctorSargeMD you can unlock master hand by having the hand on the character thing and then starting the match
You can play him in melee with a glitch
I remember being called a liar for claiming there's a dying soldier in the side street of the market after Jabu Jabu. If you go straight to the Temple of Time you miss out.
I remember that i was suprised Nintendo included that
+SanDan3rdDan
Huh. You learn something new every day.
You fucking liar.
@@misstrKevin he's not lying. It's in the N64 version.. after Jabu Jabu you to the alley near the lady who is looking for her dog. A dying soldier says his last words to you.
morning star no he’s a liar. You hear me SanDan3rdDan you’re a godamn liar!
Just getting the Triforce in general has to be the biggest mystery for OoT. There must have been about 300 rumoured ways to do so, only some of which actually involved the Sky Temple or Temple of Light (the others ranging from a Hyrule Castle dungeon to beating the running man to finding it underneath the market or Ganon's Castle). That caused me to spend no small amount of hours searching Hyrule.
And that Ghoul Medal... yeah, I definitely also looked for that one. Along with the various other random 'oddities' the game had like the 'no running in the halls' sign, the talk of Dorrie being able to eat Mario or the weird sky paintings in the upper parts of the castle that don't seem to match any particular level.
Either way, nice video!
When I was little, my brother, my sister, and I would watch each other play Banjo-Kazooie. In the beginning, we would always just spend the entire time in Spiral Mountain because the music on the bridge to Gruntilda's Lair scared us. So one day, we were just walking around, killing vegetables and such, and suddenly our game would freeze. We all thought that Gruntilda cast a spell on our game and froze our screen for spending too much time in Spiral Mountain. We didn't pick up the game for months XD
ShakilsStuff hahaha
🤣 thats cute
so here's a story:
me and my younger brother had smash bros wiiu
we wanted to fight master fortress
we didn't know how to get to it, so we tried classic mode on increasingly harder difficulties
when we cleared it on max difficulty and didn't encounter the fortress, we tried fighing master and crazy without losing a single stock to get master fortress to appear
still nothing and we eventually tried clearing through the entire classic mode on max difficulty with no stocks lost and still no master fortress
my brother had enough and googled how to get to it
we had to play on solo classic. we were playing group classic together.
this is why the wiiu failed
You can actually get the ice key doing a really hard glitch invloving getting past a collition box as the bee in the over world which lets you get into warp pot thing which allows you to enter levels as the bee. Meaning you can fly over the wall in wozzas cave.
The biggest one for me was unlocking Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS. It was in 2010 and 2011. I remember Wwwwario (who I still watch to this day) stumbled across a guy named Arceus2401. He claimed that he had unlocked Waluigi, and he had screenshots that looked very real. Wwwwario made videos about it, telling the methods in which Arceus2401 told him. We all tried to find him. Wwwwario himself believed it. I spent countless hours trying to unlock him, and so did people in the comments, people at school, and even people made their own videos. There were TONS of clues in the game that he was there, including the black box on the file select screen on the castle. I believe people even sent Nintendo of America letters about it. However, it turned out to be fake in the end. However, just like you, I do not regret any second of it. I remember getting up and watching the videos on my Wii with my DS in my hands, trying different ways. It was really fun, even though I never got him. That's why I love Nintendo so much, trying to find stuff like that just has this certain charm to it.
Just out of curiosity, are you also in your mid teens? Because if I went online more back then (instead of *just* playing video games) that sounds exactly like a story I would've been able to tell

You can also retrieve the Stop N Swop eggs the legit way with some other codes for the Sand Castle (which you can find easily online). That's how I did it a few years ago, to finally get some closure. It felt good.
Mr_spoon Yep. They don't do shit because Stop'N'Swap was never implemented because reasons, but you can indeed enter more long cheat codes in the sand castle to get them all if you feel like spending 10 minutes stomping letter tiles.
Redhotsmasher a
The satisfying part was, to me, simply acquiring those items, even though they don't do anything (you even get an additional Stop n Swop screen in the pause menu, after the level stats). I was just glad to finally get the items that young Me spent a lot of time trying to get back then.
As a side not, apparently, getting those items in the Xbox version allows you to get extra vehicle parts in Nuts n Bolts. It's definitely not what they originally had planned back in the day, but at least we got an "official" answer.
This was a point of frustration for me. I discovered all the codes, but the Ice Key code has never once worked for me. I've used every other code in the game at least once, but the key code never worked.
Mr Bones,
Did you make sure to punch in "CHEAT" before putting in the code? If won't work unless you hear the cow noises.
Something like that happened to me in Banjo-Tooie, I remember there was another one of theese keyboard floor things somewhere in the game, thing is that every time you entered a random letter you would get a buzzing sound or something that would let you know you entered an incorrect letter, but I remember writting down "Jinjo" and nothing happened, as is "Jinjo was the first part of a the cheat code, can someone confrim this??? this has been haunting my head for years.

Kyle S. You should try it on your game again
You sir just earned yourself a sub for giving me massive nostalgia. I hope that when the N64 classics drop that they bring back the Donkey Kong green version of it along with some others.
I remember my cousin telling me how to unlock the pegasus mount in OoT. You speak with malon after you've attained Epona. You beat her challenge at under 20s (I think it was) when you do, you will get the pegasus horse. This would allow you to fly on top of Hyrule Castle. There you would find an altar with a large chest and in that chest would be the full tri force (which makes zero sense seeing how the 3 pieces exist in 3 people). With this triforce you would gain super abilities (think Deity's mask).
I love this
Isn't the Ghoul Medal an equippable accessory that a Boo gives in Super Mario RPG? In Monstro Town to be precise. I always thought the Boo in SM64 was simply referencing that as a joke?
EDIT: My bad I had it wrong all along, the one in SMRPG is a GHOST medal.
I did too always think he was just saying it as a joke, kinda like a "if you get out alive you should get a trophy!"
I always thought it was a pun on 'Gold Medal'. That might just be me, though.
He is. It's just a bad pun joke. Jesus Christ, can't believe people wasted their time on that. Like, I was 8 when I played Mario 64 and even then I knew it was a joke.
don't judge me for this lol but I saw new super Mario bros. in a game magazine and it had two slots for held items on the touch screen. I spent months after I beat the game trying to figure out how to get the extra item slot. I just found out recently that the photo I saw in the game magazine was the beta version of the game : /
+yung amy - Those darn betas! It's so cruel to print photos of something and then change it later. I know there were photos of Luigi's Mansion that featured ghosts that weren't in the actual game, but at the time I surely thought they were hidden somewhere.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time was originally going to have an expansion pack for the N64 Disk Drive that would have included the Temple of Light, Wind, an Ice. However, it was scrapped due to the failure of the Disk Drive. A couple of hackers tried to make their own version of Ura Zelda, but has been recently canceled.
also the music from OOT in this video is actually from Majoras Mask
And the ice temple was scrapped and turned into the ice cavern instead
Cruel melee 20 ko' s to unlock sonic. I remember this one as It took me a few hundred times playing to finally get 20 ko's.
Same here, that took me a good couple of hrs then found out immediately after that was a big disappointment and a hoax.
I never could beat any of them but we did get Sonic is Smash bros eventually.

All those time i wasted on Trying to open the Under Ice Door in Zora Domain in order to Obtained the Triforce... Arrrggg Grrraa... Good times... :) lol
What about the briefcase in Goldeneye - that used to drive me nuts.
This is one of the best gaming videos I have ever seen. Holy nostalgia! Bravo!!!
When I was younger my friend and I used to visit this website called the "Odyssey of Hyrule" ...the editors were very into the rumors that spread about Ocarina of Time (and a little bit of Majora's Mask too) and one that we really wanted to try to figure out was this one about how if you do a certain thing, and then ran up to the Pedestal of Time (as a child) to find that just before you got to it, it would activate and a T-Rex would come out of it. I remember even seeing photos of it as "proof" (too young to realize that photoshop was a thing). This had to be...1998, 1999...I was about 7 or 8. Good times.
I thought the OoT one would be about beating the Running Man
cellogamer GAMING me too
cellogamer GAMING you beat him by calling epona and riding to the finish line
Marcos Murillo No it's impossible to beat him. Even if you gameshark your way to a time of 0:00:00, he still beats you by one second
i remember doing it like that when i was growing up ..you just roll with Link instead of running then when you call epona and thats how i remember beating him but it was close. i have the Gold edition so idk if they changed how to beat him in the different versions that cane out of the game
Riku 70X Including infinite carrots for Epona?
I can't remember how many times i tried to "roadkill" that bigfoot on skifree32
In Mario Galaxy 2 of one of the maps, there's trees up in the valleys/mountains maps, in first person you can see them over the mountains.
When looking at the trees, they look really creepy looking souls staring down at you. The names of the trees are "Hell Valley Sky Trees."
And still now a days I wonder why they're even there and heck what they actually even "are", but of course I never found out.
+Guìlty “Smol Bun” Kìng You should look take a look at this unused model in Luigi's Mansion. It looks very similar to those Hell Valley Sky Trees... I think it is some kind of scrapped ghoul they didn't use?
www.mariowiki.com/images/6/62/LM_elh.png
Yeah, the unused model does look pretty similar due to the fact it can be just colored black and different detail. Others just believe they're aliens, cause of two or more proof, but heh who knows, it might be a scrap too another all everyone's random theories. Thanks for the info though.
Zelda had that extra room in the windmill. That one always caught my interest
I remember the excitement when news first came around about unlocking Drumstick in Diddy Kong Racing
SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THE SECOND GAME WAS!!!
THE ONE WITH THE CARROT!
+TyrannoKoenigsegg - Tonic Trouble is the name of the game. It's quite the quirky title!
SwankyBox omg thank you
I think I played it before but nevr paid attention to the title cuz I was young
+SwankyBox can you do a video on what would happen if mario killed bowser?
+TyrannoKoenigsegg
I remember playing that on a demo disc once, never tried to full game.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Goldeneye, the island across the water on dam! And the briefcase in the silo level
How did you capture the video? I've never seen n64 footage look so clear!
I belive he uses emulators on a 1080p wide screen or something is what I saw in another comment
N64 elitist huh, haven't seen one since the late 90's
+GrimeHubTV I honestly have to agree, but because of the graphical errors it creates since N64 emulation still being far from perfect. It's better when people use a real N64 or Virtual Console for N64 videos. I wouldn't mind it if N64 emulation was better, though.
El Gato, maybe?
He is using emulator, cause i saw one of the OoT parts, was in 16:9
This video just takes me back to simpler times. Yeah we spent hours, even days using STRENGTH on a truck to catch Mew that never appeared.. I wouldn't trade those times for anything.
Jesus Christ man! Right from the rip you hit my feels. Bomberman nostalgia, Mario 64 enjoyment, Banjo sad, Glover frustration, Smash happy, Zelda love.
I tried for the longest time to beat the running man in ocarina of time, tried everything I could think of to beat him, it's just not possible though
Anyone else try to get into the helicopter in Goldeneye 007 on the Frigate level?
+Greg DeBacker haha yup
Greg DeBacker I also tried countless times to get into the cars on Streets lol
Greatest game ever
Ive tried
How about playing in the bathroom vents on multiplayer to hide from others
There are a lot of moments like that in Metroid: Zero Mission, unsolved mysteries left and right. Even today, I still have dreams about what might have been beyond that one, odd-looking wall, if the developers had only MADE that area.
Edit: 8:39 I actually once played *Super Smash Bros. Melee* at someone else's house, and they had a ton of stages unlocked that just didn't exist on my copy. They even had a fight against not one, but three Glovers at once, one at each side and one coming from the middle of the table. I was absolutely dumb-founded.
Amaroqdricaldari 0_0 ...they didn't possibly happen to have a Game Shark or Action Replay type thing for their Cube by any chance? I mean, there are legitimate fights against Master Hand and Crazy Hand simultaneously in Melee, but three hands? Sounds like hax. How long ago was this, back in the GameCube days or...?
glover? You mean master hand?
Amaroqdricaldari The levels they unlocked were probably the special ones that you have to complete Break The Targets, Beat 15 minute man melee, Get over 1,500km on Home Run Contest, and the two levels that come from beating event 50 & 51
I'm so, so happy that someone out there other than me still remembers Glover.
In OoT, those 3 deep scratches in the tree on the little island on Lake Hylia perplexed me for years. I theorized that Kaepora Gabora (or however his name is spelled) had made them with his talons, and that there was something I could do to them. It was so frustrating
I was not an N64 kid, but I was a DS kind and Mario 64 ds's was the white door, it is a solved mystery, but I never actually knew how to get it. But then there's Waluigi, omg Waluigi is another unsolved mystery.
Waluigi I think was solved
but the mystery now was, when did it start. but there was that bit on the file ss and it didn't appear in game
lol i would try and unlock waluigi it was fun but i never got him
+SageOfMuzzyness White door in the character pick room has a star behind it, you need to catch a rabbit for the key.
+TheLastRaven6 it was supposed to be Waluigi but he was cut and replaced with the Star
The underwater cave in Zora's Domain in Ocarina of Time... the Stone of Agony kept going off, so it made me think there was something down there. It is probably similar to your Bomberman and Glover doors.
sstteev I remember reading about that actually, although as a child I don't believe I ever made it under the ice as adult Link. I do remember seeing a few hoaxes a while back where someone edited the entrance to that door and made it lead to that unique mirror-like cave that you could find in one of Hyrule's secret holes (I think it was the one in the Lost Woods?). Either way, that's another great example. Thanks for sharing!
The Stone of Agony goes off in that area because there's actually a hole on that little island thing. You either have to use the Megaton Hammer or Song of Storms, I forget which one it is.
My big bro and I also played many "cloud only" battles in Smash 64, great times. :)
Lol, that subscribe tease at the end xD
Patient: "Doc, I'm feeling really sad, it's like something in me is missing or got lost..."
Doc: "Well, have you tried subscribing to SwankBoy?"
And your inner child will love you for it!
The "Ghoul Medal" was the mystery that I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out but could never do it. Still a head scratcher to this day. Whoever came up with that baffling mystery did a good job at confusing players with Big Boo's Haunt. Made me believe there was a collectible other than the Power Stars in Super Mario 64.
My first ever Mario game was Super Mario 64 DS when I was 6 years old. I managed to slowly but surely get 149 stars. Then, it took me literally years to find the last one. I was convinced there was some super-secret star somewhere and I spent countless hours searching for it and eventually watching youtube videos trying to find this star.
Of course, me being a kid at the time, 1. didn't realise that the original SM64 and SM64DS were two seperate games, and 2. I didn't know that not all youtube videos were true and accurate. So i spent hours trying to jump into this "invisible portal" near the top of the right side tower because some YT video showed it.
And of course, it was one of the "secret stars" so I couldn't just look to see which course it was missing from
And one day, many years later, I was messing about on that secret cloud stage opposite Rainbow Ride and broke the black brick blocks and there was the star I had been looking for for years.
The funny thing is, I had already gotten the star on another save file, so I thought I had already gotten it on my main save file.
So many hours searching for a star I already had went down the drain but it was probably fun looking for it while it lasted
Bomberman 64 was really hard, I didn't even come close to beating it. Amazing game tho.
the multiplayer was awesome
"...To having Cloud Only battles..."
Well, Smash 4 takes that statement in a whole other direction, now doesn't it?
So many good memories with all these games, and I even tried going for a majority of these mysteries myself back when. I think the one that I tried the most was the Ice Key, it was just there, taunting me. And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who'd just run around aimlessly in the overworld of Hyrule for the fun of it, particularly Hyrule Field.
Never actually knew about the Ghoul Medal until now
Goldeneye 64
“The secret villain room at the end of the train”
Turn on invincibility mode and double weapons and unlimited ammo
Go to the train stage
Make your way to the end of the train.
Once you make your way the last part, get your double grenade launchers ready.
After the walk into that final room, shoot a bunch of grenades to the wall behind the villains and run like crazy towards them.
If you go fast enough, you’ll make it into the last room before the metal panel door slams shut in front of you.
There’s not very much to explore back there, but it DOES exist.
You’ll also be stuck there too, lol.
When I discovered waaaay back in the late 90s, I am still yet to meet anyone that also discovered it. I’m sure someone out there has!
Good luck!
In Space Station Silicon Valley, there's one jungle level where you can hear the "bzt" electrical deactivation noise of a robot animal dying. The sound plays about once a minute. I looked for hours trying to find the source of the noise but never could.
In Diddy Kong Racing, during the first WizPig race, I was convinced there was a secret tunnel shortcut hidden somewhere in the map, because the intricate design of the houses and trees on the side of the map seemed like they could be hiding something. No shortcut exists, though :(
+Andy - Holy crap!!! I totally forgot about that in Space Station Silicon Valley! I played that game a ton! Thanks for sharing this, because honestly I would have never remembered this unless I went back to that specific level. I plan on covering some areas from this game in my Pixel Portals series later on, because I totally explored all the worlds as much as I could, and I have very fond memories of this game.
Diddy Kong Racing going to space, turned out to be real!
Heck ya! mirror mode and mirror mode in space too. and you could unlock the Rooster and even the time trial Clock! I am the greatest Diddy Kong of all time!! Ancient Lake in under 50 seconds on time trial!! unbeatable record, I let every kid in the neighborhood take a shot at beating it, with an unlimited amount of tries. unless it was late on a school night or dinner time. lol to be young again.
You hit the nail on the head about the gaming unsolved mysteries & how, us kids back then, had to do insane shit to even try & receive any sort of secret information that kids these days can easily find. Ah, the great nostalgia of back in the day. Seriously though, how did all these theories travel across the world? Good memories.
I really enjoyed this one! The entire mystique around Ice Key haunted my childhood. Rareware definitely knew how to play around mysterious secrets! Another N64 mystery for me is the highly elusive Totaka's song in Wave Race 64.
