The thing I dread most is the point in a game where this happens,
"You will not return to this area, Are you sure you want to continue?"
The answer is always no, not till I have done everything and anything in that area and even then do I struggle to say yes! :P

    • @jonquist9950
      @jonquist9950 6 лет назад +16

Yeah, why not just leave the option to return? Does it REALLY need to be completely blocked off?

    • @zeroattentiongaming820

I have a slightly different problem. I end up having to decide between rushing through or finishing everything, making neither option enjoyable.

Mass Effect 3 had it worst.
You had to grind the multiplayer.

There's a 3rdPS I sometimes play where "levelling up" entails taking a skill test, but in some of them (mostly the stealth ones, and stealth is actually a component of the gameplay), all of your ranged weapons (some of which are silent and can normally be used stealthily) and any of the non-weapon powers you have are disabled. So it's melee-only stealth in a game where you're normally able to vaporize just about anything the moment you spot it.

And don't get me started on decision makings! Completely agree with the path choosing bit. "This path is shorter. Therefore a treasure chest should be there... NOPE! Back, back, back!" And being stealthy can sod right off. I suck so much at stealth and driving games, so having it thrown into an RPG throws me right off. kinda late to it but this video is genius (on a structural and writing level):
every segment ties well to the next one (from timers to underwater levels using R&C, from that to escort missions using MGS2 and so on)
also the jokes aren't the usual recycled family friendly stuff, these are still ad friendly but not cringy and the observations aren't copy pasted popular opinions like WatchMojo (i've never seen people point out the "trippy level" before but i think most of us thought about it at some point)
lastly it's pretty well edited in a way that compliments the humour (the close-up at 4:42 is brilliant and had me in tears)
it's really easy to miss these details but for a channel that basically serves as publicity to Playstation content exclusively and is not focused on trends, this is one of the only channels which get the "top X in Y" idea right and produce quality content.

Rob, I have an honourable mention for your video - "Interrupting a cutscene with a quick time event". Like for example Max Payne 3 or Mass effect 2 & 3 with those paragon / renegade clicks ... I hated those. If I'm not mistaking Hitman Absolution and Tomb Raider had QTE's in cutscenes as well (correct me if I'm wrong)
A cutscene is my oasis, my break, my reward after fighting through countless enemies or whatever other actions, and yet the developers decide to shove the finger right in the middle of my so deserved mini holiday
Here's an idea for your next video - "7 times QTE made us hate life" ............... Imagine ...............Rob all comfy and calm in his sofa with his controller in hand when Nathan starts shouting in his face "press X, press X, press X (or whatever)"

Ever since the hopeless battle in Crisis Core I hate survival based missions where you need to hold out against x waves of enemies cause I keep flashing back to Zack and how as you fight the unending wave of soldiers and helicopters the dmg you take starts to go from normal to extremely high and the dwm or other starts breaking down and basically is showing Zack's life flashing before his eyes till the very last segment where you can't even move normally any more, your limping horribly, dwm has completely broke down is not spinning anymore, and you have to muster ever last bit of energy you have left just to swing the sword because he is hurt so bad but the enemy is just fine and still coming endlessly then the screen fading to black as you hear gun shots going off still my most emotional moment in gaming R.I.Pperoni Zack the puppy/hero you will always be missed.

Agree with every word this video said. Also, I often save before making a decision (such as in Witcher 3) and try each option to figure out which is best. As for getting lost, I enter a dungeon and go left whenever I get a choice, which statistically improves my odds of seeing as much as possible (especially in Fallout New Vegas where this method always results in me seeing every part of every cave).

Stealth sections where detection means instant failure. I'm know I'm terrible at being stealthy, stop rubbing it in by making me repeat it over and over!
It's even worse when its a surprise stealth section in a non stealth game. It's hard enough in a game designed around doing so, but in a game that has barely any stealth mechanics at all is a nightmare.

But you guys portray the essence of gaming. It's a wonderful aggravating captivating enjoyable frustrating release. It's nice to see that the things I go through gaming aren't just a sole experience, but experienced by other groups of people. Gaming has probably quite literally saved my life so I hold a place dear to my heart for it and I appreciate that you guys genuinely care and relive your own experiences in a way that makes me watch the videos and say "yeah I feel that I hear you I've been there". And if ever should I get enough money to buy a playstation I sure as heck will. “Toxic rise” sections-bits like that sewer bit in Ratchet and Clank, where you have to run away from something (usually liquid and lethal) that’s filling up the room/corridor you’re in, and there’s a million and one things in the way. I named them after a bit in Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy where you have to climb a silo filling up with poison rather quickly, literally called “Toxic Rise”

I personally like Majoras Mask which is funny becuse I hate its predecessor Ocarina of Time. Considering the fact that you have almost complete control over time in this game I dont really get why people have a problem with it It was not dreadful in the slightest. You have all time in the world in Majoras Mask.

You don't want to play the original System Shock on the hardest difficulty settings, then. The toughest one for Plot imposes a time limit on the game.

      Sega Mega Drive.
Had a Sharp MZ700 before that, but not sure that counts as a console.

Gottstein_3 Is it even better than a Ps3 or 360? Nintendo seems to be dropping the ball a lot here lately.

Those bits in Tomb Raider when they take your weapons away, and make you navigate unknown corridors, avoid baddies, swim underwater, avoid the flesh eating sea dwellers, pull a lever, swim all the way back to the corridor of baddies, and find the door you unlocked that might possibly be on a timer, but your weapons are in there...
