I blew off my cousin's wedding for the first Dark Souls. I was still going to go but it was far so I would have been out of town for 3 days and after I called the hotel and they told me theroom TV's didn't have RCA or HDMI inputs that ended those plans. He didn't play games and is still a little pissed off at me.
Number 7 for me especially. I bought The Witcher 3 a couple months ago, then Monster Hunter World game out, then I got Nioh for my birthday and then I got the Uncharted remaster. Currently about half way done with Uncharted 3, then I'll go back to TW3, since I'm about half way done with it. I'm kinda glad there aren't any new games I want coming out soon.
#7 is exactly why I haven't got the Witcher 3 yet. I just don't have time atm. Plus, I avoid most games that are that long. Zelda boTw is the exception honestly. It's the one ultra long game that I can't put down even 80 hours into it. I could play for another 100. MGS 5 was like that too. Literally nothing was played on my PS4 for over 2 weeks until I finished the story. 107 hours it took me

I love a challenge but at that point it becomes a chore and work is what I'm trying to avoid when I turn on my PS4 lol

I'm clearly older than you, but I also skipped BOTH my graduation ceremonies (undergrad and grad) for a game. Worse, apparently I got a special commendation from the dean for my academic achievements and they called my name repeatedly while I was busy with Final Fantasy. Whoops.
now I've never had to use this, but if somebody asks me to their wedding or other tedious events that have nothing to do with me, i tell them that I've got a policy. i say "I've got a policy that i don't go to weddings" or whatever's specific for the situation, when really the policy is: i don't do things i don't want to do

That Guy I wish it was like that, it wasn't a surprise party, I'm very anti social so they wanted me to open up and stuff , but I was fighting that annoying Martyr Logarius ( probably the hardest main game boss ) and I got very close to ending him so I keep on fighting and by the time I defeated him I had realised that one hour had already passed , my phone was on silent and then I noticed 6 missed calls from my significant other , luckily she is very nice and understands the frustrating difficulty and covered for me saying that something must have happened ( she knew what was up though) , she too came back home sending away all my co workers and friends, and we happily played some more games
I am currently surviving almost entirely on ramen. It's not actually that bad. There are a ton of different ways you can make ramen that are really nice.
I'm guilty of every single 1 of them but I'm fine with it. I have 2 say in my defence that the 2 or 3 friends I still have always make me feel good whenever I see them in like 10 to 15 times a year and start telling me how their life is going. Especially when I hear about relationships and how they complain I'm like "Yes I don't waste my time in relations and no bad feelings". I still feel bad for not completing horizon DLC yet 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I barely scraped through senior year of high school because of a six day a week WoW raiding schedule. I then failed out of college for the same reason, and a total lack of willpower to pull me away from games. XD When I no-life a game when it's fresh out, I've been known to just stay up for 30+ hours straight multiple days back-to-back and ignore sleep (because really, once you're awake for so long, you stop feeling tired). Then there was the Cataclysm WoW release, where I stayed up for 88 hours straight to get to 80 in the group of realm firsts. I can't count the number of family dinners I've ditched to play whatever game it is at the time, or to make a scheduled RP that seems to always fall in the middle of the dinner hour, but I can recall one time my sister and my nephews came over for a family visit, and I had a WoW raid the same night. Knowing I wouldn't be able to make an excuse to miss the family gathering, I just took my laptop downstairs and raided through the entire event instead, occasionally nodding my head and making as though I was actually interested in anything the family was doing. Multitasking saves the day!
I spent an entire day playing Fallout New Vegas on survival, making sure the Courier was sufficiently fed and hydrated, nevermind my stomach is grumbling because it's been hours since I ate.
The worst part about number 7 is when you have gaming friends to. Maybe one really wants to play ranked in rainbow six siege (and once you start it's easy to get invested) maybe another really wants to go beat all the Easter eggs in zombies chronicles on black ops 3 while another one wants everyone to squad up and play battle field one/four. All of these sound like fun options but all you want to do is finish getting the platinum in blood borne. Thank you appear offline button.
I missed christmas with my two kids and a horrible trip to my partners parents house so I could play assassin's creed Unity, A decision I regret to this day, not for missing Xmas with my kids but the choice of game I deserted them for.
Important events I missed for Video Games? MY ACTUAL HIGHSCHOOL GRADUATION. Was too busy finding Kimeramon on the 99th floor of Tera Domain in Digimon World 2. He was not there. Autopilot. Tried 10 more times. Still not there. Tried until 8pm (my graduation was at 3pm by the way and I was in my attire already at 12noon). Found him finally and tried to catch him with Toy Planes, DIDN'T GET HIM.
Early 20's five hrs a night of sleep... Able to function like a normal human. Early 30's eight hrs a night... Has to set 6 alarms and press the snooze button 20 times.
I do that even with 8 hours, if i manage to sleep. I used to pull all nighters regularly, but now lack of sleep ruins me. I'm at the tail end of my 20s now. 30s are about to be fun... >.>
Got 4-5 hours last night myself. Had something to do so no snooze button for me. Trying to enjoy a few whiskies, but feeling crappy. Could honestly sleep right now lol.
For me the when I have to wake up is a bigger problem than how long I've been asleep. If you want me awake before 10 you need to rely on an alarm even if I went to bed at 6 the previous evening.
Yeah. In my early 20s me and Air Force buds would drink all night. I woke up the next day and went to the gym and felt great. Now I need two recovery days if I drink like that.

I find that 1 & 2 generally go together. As soon as the kids are in bed I'm on the sofa, controller in hand ready to play some Red Dead Redemption 2. Next thing you know it's 3am and you forgot to take that ready meal out of the microwave and worst still the beer you got out of the fridge still has the cap on and nothing in the last 7 hours has been achieved except a lot of deaths and a poor alligator skin!
I have actually been inspired by your university stories Rob. Disclamier: I'm gonna study this degree cause I'm interested in it, not just to play games. Now that said I looked up easiest college major and the one I'm going for was on nearly every list. I realized this means loads of free time. Also saw single dorm is not very much higher at college I wanna go to. So now I'm strategically planning how to make it into the ultimate gaming lair. I'm super excited

Wow, almost all of these apply to me. The most drastic would have to be when my grades notably began to fall as I got more into WoW right after launch, and when I almost got angry at my friend for picking a release date for his wedding...but then the release date got moved and he was spared (and the wedding was awesome). There’s something clearly wrong with all of us.
A lot of these ring true for me, but I obtained the ability to suppress these for the love of of my wife and the joy spending my finite time with her can bring... However, I was quick to inform her that the new God of War will be coming out in a few weeks, so I'm looking to arrange holiday from work and social proclivities that comes with marriage to enjoy this game to completion since our union. Fingers crossed

I actually gave up almost a full combo of this list for one game, basically all in one weekend. It was Fall 2017. My first semester at University, I got my hands on Persona 5. And I did not leave my dorm for close to 2 months. So I gave up Food and Sleep right there cause JRPG. Gave up Relationships when my friends texted me asking to go out and party, and I said no, because games. Gave up Education because I never left my dorm to attend class or open my computer to do homework. Gave up Family Events cause the last weekend of October, my cousin was getting married, but I said I was at University and couldn’t make it. This was the same weekend my friends asked me out. And I, most sadly of all, gave up all my other games cause I was only playing P5.

I don't skip out on life events to play video games, I skip out of video games to go to "important" enough "life" events. I would probably cry if I knew how many months I spent not playing vidyagames. You're feeling conflicted over a couple hundred hours in a game, meanwhile I've got multiple thousand in both Skyrim and Oblivion individually ontop of all the rest, and I'd do it again if given the time back.

That Guy I wish it was like that, it wasn't a surprise party, I'm very anti social so they wanted me to open up and stuff , but I was fighting that annoying Martyr Logarius ( probably the hardest main game boss ) and I got very close to ending him so I keep on fighting and by the time I defeated him I had realised that one hour had already passed , my phone was on silent and then I noticed 6 missed calls from my significant other , luckily she is very nice and understands the frustrating difficulty and covered for me saying that something must have happened ( she knew what was up though) , she too came back home sending away all my co workers and friends, and we happily played some more games

I'm guilty of every single 1 of them but I'm fine with it. I have 2 say in my defence that the 2 or 3 friends I still have always make me feel good whenever I see them in like 10 to 15 times a year and start telling me how their life is going. Especially when I hear about relationships and how they complain I'm like "Yes I don't waste my time in relations and no bad feelings". I still feel bad for not completing horizon DLC yet 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I barely scraped through senior year of high school because of a six day a week WoW raiding schedule. I then failed out of college for the same reason, and a total lack of willpower to pull me away from games. XD When I no-life a game when it's fresh out, I've been known to just stay up for 30+ hours straight multiple days back-to-back and ignore sleep (because really, once you're awake for so long, you stop feeling tired). Then there was the Cataclysm WoW release, where I stayed up for 88 hours straight to get to 80 in the group of realm firsts.
I can't count the number of family dinners I've ditched to play whatever game it is at the time, or to make a scheduled RP that seems to always fall in the middle of the dinner hour, but I can recall one time my sister and my nephews came over for a family visit, and I had a WoW raid the same night. Knowing I wouldn't be able to make an excuse to miss the family gathering, I just took my laptop downstairs and raided through the entire event instead, occasionally nodding my head and making as though I was actually interested in anything the family was doing. Multitasking saves the day!
I spent an entire day playing Fallout New Vegas on survival, making sure the Courier was sufficiently fed and hydrated, nevermind my stomach is grumbling because it's been hours since I ate.
The worst part about number 7 is when you have gaming friends to. Maybe one really wants to play ranked in rainbow six siege (and once you start it's easy to get invested) maybe another really wants to go beat all the Easter eggs in zombies chronicles on black ops 3 while another one wants everyone to squad up and play battle field one/four. All of these sound like fun options but all you want to do is finish getting the platinum in blood borne. Thank you appear offline button.
I missed christmas with my two kids and a horrible trip to my partners parents house so I could play assassin's creed Unity, A decision I regret to this day, not for missing Xmas with my kids but the choice of game I deserted them for.

MY ACTUAL HIGHSCHOOL GRADUATION.
Was too busy finding Kimeramon on the 99th floor of Tera Domain in Digimon World 2. He was not there. Autopilot. Tried 10 more times. Still not there. Tried until 8pm (my graduation was at 3pm by the way and I was in my attire already at 12noon). Found him finally and tried to catch him with Toy Planes, DIDN'T GET HIM.
Early 20's five hrs a night of sleep... Able to function like a normal human. Early 30's eight hrs a night... Has to set 6 alarms and press the snooze button 20 times.
I do that even with 8 hours, if i manage to sleep. I used to pull all nighters regularly, but now lack of sleep ruins me. I'm at the tail end of my 20s now. 30s are about to be fun... >.>
Its the worse... I got 5 hrs of sleep last night and now im so tired i want to cry.. 😢

For me the when I have to wake up is a bigger problem than how long I've been asleep. If you want me awake before 10 you need to rely on an alarm even if I went to bed at 6 the previous evening.
Yeah. In my early 20s me and Air Force buds would drink all night. I woke up the next day and went to the gym and felt great. Now I need two recovery days if I drink like that.

I once took a 3 week hoilday just to play Skyrim, my mates wanted me to head out a few nights and I never even responded. I was so addicted to Skyrim.
I find that 1 & 2 generally go together. As soon as the kids are in bed I'm on the sofa, controller in hand ready to play some Red Dead Redemption 2. Next thing you know it's 3am and you forgot to take that ready meal out of the microwave and worst still the beer you got out of the fridge still has the cap on and nothing in the last 7 hours has been achieved except a lot of deaths and a poor alligator skin!

I have actually been inspired by your university stories Rob. Disclamier: I'm gonna study this degree cause I'm interested in it, not just to play games. Now that said I looked up easiest college major and the one I'm going for was on nearly every list. I realized this means loads of free time. Also saw single dorm is not very much higher at college I wanna go to. So now I'm strategically planning how to make it into the ultimate gaming lair. I'm super excited

Wow, almost all of these apply to me. The most drastic would have to be when my grades notably began to fall as I got more into WoW right after launch, and when I almost got angry at my friend for picking a release date for his wedding...but then the release date got moved and he was spared (and the wedding was awesome). There’s something clearly wrong with all of us.
A lot of these ring true for me, but I obtained the ability to suppress these for the love of of my wife and the joy spending my finite time with her can bring...
However, I was quick to inform her that the new God of War will be coming out in a few weeks, so I'm looking to arrange holiday from work and social proclivities that comes with marriage to enjoy this game to completion since our union. Fingers crossed

I try to avoid that last one by making it a rule not to start a new game until I've at least reached one of the endings in the game I'm currently on. Kinda has the same result, though, in that I've got this huge backlog of games I haven't even gotten around to *starting.*
I actually gave up almost a full combo of this list for one game, basically all in one weekend. It was Fall 2017. My first semester at University, I got my hands on Persona 5. And I did not leave my dorm for close to 2 months. So I gave up Food and Sleep right there cause JRPG. Gave up Relationships when my friends texted me asking to go out and party, and I said no, because games. Gave up Education because I never left my dorm to attend class or open my computer to do homework. Gave up Family Events cause the last weekend of October, my cousin was getting married, but I said I was at University and couldn’t make it. This was the same weekend my friends asked me out. And I, most sadly of all, gave up all my other games cause I was only playing P5.
Canceled a movie date so that I could grind and rank up with the boys in R6😂🤷🏽♂️
