Jan, thank you very much for making this video. I appreciate the time you spent to help us. Thank you for the water bead link too. ❤❤❤. I really like your ring. It’s cool! 🎉
Thanks. You are so kind!
Thank you! I bought one of these decades ago and loved it. Now I plan to make one on my own :)
Wonderful!
Man the cooling scarves I had for years is wearing out and I never knew what was inside it. Excited after I move I can start making these. Namaste my Dear Sweet Friend 🥰🐞🤗
Namaste!
I love that fabric. I have quite a bit of it on several different projects.
Wonderful.
What a great teacher you are!
Thank you for going slow for newbies like myself!
Enjoyed your video very much and looking forward to making my own cooling scarf😊
You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing .straight to the point!
You are so welcome
My scarf came out great! Thanks Jan! Soaking more beads to make some for my friends😍
Wonderful!
After hydration and insertion the material is pretty wet, I’m worried my machine may get water inside while sewing. Do you let them dry out for a while before machine sewing?
I want to know that too!
Most tutorials for doing these, have you putting the beads in dry. Takes longer to be able to use it, as you have to soaked the scarf for 1-2 hours first.
Yes, let it dry a bit or add the beads in dry.
I wanted to make a simple neck scarf and this tutorial is perfect. The added water beads is an added bonus. Making for 4th of July parade.
Tjhat will be nice.
Nice cool scarf
Thank you
Too hot? Move to Scotland 🤣 Cool project (literally), I’ll use it with seeds for a warmer version 🙂
great idea!
I use a smooth aluminum knitting needle to turn it inside out.
Good idea
Thank you for sharing. I don't know how to use a sewing machine but I am going to hand sew one. Today is 109° here and I need to work outside.
Wonderful!
Brilliant, thanks Jan, I will love you this summer in Australia.
Glad it will come in handy for you.
My sister and I are now menopausal...what better than having a few of these on the go for when those dreaded hot flushes come on!!
Edit: also using appropriate essential oils in the water when hydrating the beads would add a little extra, I think!?
Great idea for hot flashes. Wish I would have thought of this when I was going through it 😂 and another great idea using essential oils!!
Great idea! Are you using a quarter inch sewing seam? I am going through the magical menopause years. Thanks for these cooling neck clothes.
I am using a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Just use the edge of your presser foot as a guide. Wish I would have had these through my menopausal hot flashes. Lol
Mine turned out great. Thank you
Wonderful!
how long do they stay cool and can you reuse them? do the beads get cold by putting in the freezer or cold water? anywhere to find instructions on those things? ty
Yes, you can reuse them. That is the beauty of them. You can also put them in the fridge, a cooler or cold water. Freezing them just make the beads break up, which really isn't an issue. ruclips.net/user/shortsWc6I0Ank4yU
Where do you get the beads to put into the scarf? You don't include a link for them. TIA
oops, forgot to put those links in. Here is the link to the colored beads geni.us/blL0
and for the clear beads geni.us/o3LpLE
Amazon has them
Has anyone had problems with the hydrogel beads drying up to the size of large seeds?
What a great little project! Any suggestions on how to launder them?
I wouldn’t recommend laundering them. I would just soak in sink and swish around with hot water. Maybe someone else will have a great idea.
@@JanHowell Thanks!
I just wet it down under a faucet and add a small dab of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Rub it around and rinse, rinse, rinse under the faucet. This really takes care of the body oils and perspiration. Hang it on a towel bar to dry.
Great idea can they be frozen to make it. Even colder?
I don’t know about freezing them? I’ll have to try it and see what happens.
Can these be dried out overnight to take home on a plane after using them during vacation? Best methods for removing water?
Um, they may not dry overnight, uless you put them out in the sun to dry.
Can you use Rice insted of wayer beads?
These are to get wet with water. So rice would not be good
What is a good *dual voltage* sewing machine to take to ✈️ Europe?
I'm not aware of specific machines that have dual voltage? Sorry about that.
Does it matter if it’s a mix fabric or does it need to be 100% cotton
It can be mixed content fabric.
What is the width of the stitch?
There is no width. You'll use a simple straight stitch. 1/4 inch seam allowance
This is a great tutorial however, it's dangerous to put water beads directly in the fabric, And it not encased in plastic or something else because if they were to leak out or if the bandana were to get chewed on or damaged they can cause a bowel obstruction in pets and small children when ingested. I'm going to use something else like a gel that's non-toxic and put it inside of a plastic baggie before sewing it in. Hopefully that will work
Thanks for sharing
How will the beads absorb water in a plastic baggie?
