I tried the microfiber wash for the first time today and had really good results. I did not separate the different towels and everything came out clean and fluffy.
Good to know, I enjoy detailing my truck but don't have tons of microfiber towels and everytime I hear wash separately or buy specific detergents I end up buying new towels and throw the old ones away
I really do appreciate the fact you showed us how to hand wash. I never thought to use my grit guard. My mrs is going mental because the wax in my cloths has gotten on my kids clothes :-s thank you
And 3 different dryers because you don't want the residue to coat the interior of the barrel and it will cause cross contamination. And because there will be airborne fibers when you open the dryer, to avoid cross contamination, you will need 3 different laundry rooms. But then, you have the issue of central air systems circulating the contaminated air to all the rooms so you will need 3 different houses. preferably in different zip codes. In different states. to make sure you don't get cross contamination.
I swear chemical guys have all the essential you need for you car!!! Didn't even know there was such thing. I've been washing my cloths with regular laundry detergent and wondered why the dirt wouldn't come off.
Its just like the man says, different colored towels are intended for different areas of the vehicle. Take a brand new car drive it 2 miles. The grime and\or dirt on the lower part of the door will be different than that of the roof. Going the little extra distance to keep things clean is only assisting to reduce the risk of cross contamination of the tiny particles that may not get completely washed out. I have been detailing in different situations including body shops for a while (thats a whole different beast). Proper care of your equipment is essential BECAUSE OF:: #1. Stupid people wanting to use my stuff, #2. Flying micropieces of steel or dirt from people grinding, sanding, sweeping, and welding near me:----- realized pretty fast that I have no choice to PUT my towels, washing mitts (one just for black cars!,one for nasty dirty cars, & one for everything else), AND all buffing pads ALL in separate ziplock bags AFTER cleaning those. I also make sure im not dusty. May seem silly but I keep my buffer clean as well, wiping down the cord once in a while too. This all sounds like a lot but its worth it. Clean the stuff that cleans your stuff you know. Ignore the ignorant chemical guys, for you know what you're doing.
Most fabric softeners are made from sheep fat with fake scents added. The scent agents might be toxic but the fat is not. The reason to avoid using them with microfiber towels is the fat will coat the fibers and make the cloth much less absorbent.
I simply don't understand the need to separate the colors. The whole purpose of washing the towels is to get the dirt, wax, product, etc. out of the microfiber. If I'm washing 6 green towels and 2 blue towels together, you're arguing that the debris from the green towels will somehow come clean but move over to the blue towels that are being cleaned in the exact same load?? That makes no sense. You're either cleaning your towels or you're not.
Chemical Guys Why? I understood your explanation the first time, but I honestly just don't see how it makes any difference. It's an honest question. So you use the different colors for different purposes but the only physical difference between the towels is the color. Correct? One's not a heavier knap than the others or some such. So again if you're washing the towels to remove the contaminants, regardless of what part of the car they were picked up from, they should come clean no matter if they're washed with like colors or not. What you're essentially suggesting is that one color towel gets cleaner than the others for whatever reason, and that doesn't make any sense.
Holadude96 What we are suggest is that you separate towels to avoid cross-contamination. Using Grey towels to clean wheels will fill the towel with brake dust. Green towels never touch the wheels, thus if you wash the brake dust filled towels and waxing towels together, there is a chance that brake dust may become impregnated in the green towel. Now if you go to wax your car, the small amount of brake dust maybe cause swirls and scratches on the paintwork. This does happen often, and when you are detailing sensitive paintwork, any particulate matter that is inside the microfiber fabric will scratch the paintwork. These problems can be prevented by washing towels in color-coded groups. Plus, if you are washing "6 green towels and 2 blue towel", you should really wait till more towels are dirt to wash a bigger load. Washing bigger towels together saves water and energy.
Chemical Guys I understand that. I guess the point of contention here is that if you're worried about cross contamination, then your towels aren't getting completely cleaned, hence my comment in my original reply..."you're either cleaning your towels or you're not". Regarding towels being washed in my hypothetical, those numbers were picked completely arbitrarily for the sake of illustration.
Also, when they take the towels out of the dryer the can is marked "dirty green towels" so unless they wash the can after emptying it they're cross contaminating the clean towels immediately.
It’s sounds silly, separating by grade but it works and the best I’ve found is to buy an inexpensive portable washer and simply use it for all my microfiber towels. You won’t use as much water and you have a dedicated washer to do it. I use a light detergent nothing special and I get perfect results. And it would be bad business not to have a product placement when doing an instructional video in your area of business so I get that but I’ve never let an ad dictate anything to me so I guess I’m different
This is a great process and all but for some of us this will take to long. I only own a couple of microfiber towels and having to separate them and wash them three at a time Is inconvenient to me. I'll just wash them all together. This will work great for guys like you who own a ton.
Cleaning garage towels separately from household is good enough for me. The key is a detergent that breaks down the buildup with hot water and an extra rinse cycle. That color separation is OCD unless you have to clean a full load of each at a time. Notice the use of ALL or any other good laundry detergent. HOT WATER is key.
There is a lot of stuff that some consider OCD. I am the sort that is in between not caring at all what towels i use and being like these guys. My cars usually look pretty good for several years but I could definitely improve on that if I wasn't so lazy.
Good God. Why so many nasty comments. Thanks for the video CG. If people want to wash their towels a different way go right ahead, but why complain about every single thing on the video. Some people can’t even wash their underwear correctly maybe that’s why.
There is actually some great information in here. For example, I’ve been washing my towels in warm rather than hot to avoid damaging them. I guess I was wrong. Good stuff, CG. To hell with the haters.
It sounds crazy but think about it this way, would you wash your regular clothes with a dirty work uniform? I’m positive most people won’t, especially if the work uniform has stains that are difficult to remove such as grease.

I have seen my machine wash with Half a gallon of water for just one tiny or a two piece load.
I wash microfiber towels by hand using CG microfiber wash. I fill a bucket with warm water, place a dirt trap at the bottom put the detergent and the towels and just rub them gently for a few minutes and hang them dry. Is this an effective method? Thanks in advance
Hi Humberto, Microfiber Wash is designed to be used in the machine or by hand, so if you are successfully getting all of the dirt, embedded contaminants, and spent product out of the microfiber towels by hand washing, then that's totally fine! The problem can occur when you do not completely remove those things and they come back to haunt you on your next detail. So, just make sure to get everything totally out of the towel! We also recommend drying your towels in the dryer. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back tomorrow for a new video upload!
Washing on HOT ruins them! Microfiber melts at only 140 degrees!During drying he even admits hot is bad...after he just washed em on hot 140+ degrees lol.
HI Ivan, I can tell you our process of washing microfiber towels. First, separate microfiber towels by type into designated wash & dry loads. Keep grimy towels separate from cleaner paint towels,. Start by washing "cleaner" towels first, then finish with the grimier ones. Hot water is able to open up the fibers to better release dirt and grease. Don't use fabric softener because then it'll clog up and render them nonabsorbent. Machine dry in LOW heat because as you said, high heat cooks the fibers, making them hard and prone to scratching paint. Again, don't use fabric softener because it'll clog and render them useless.
I use Ajax and laundry detergent when I clean my microfiber cloths I never ever ever dry them in the dryer but I do air fluff them after they've been air-dried so they don't shrink
In the video it recommends to wash separately and I agree with you but what about drying can I do one big load where they all dry together? I mean they should just be damp cloths right nothing more? Thanks you guys rock!!
What about washing filthy towels that you don't want in your nice clean washing machine? Can they be soaked/pretreated in a bucket using Chemical Guys pad cleaner solution prior to putting in the washing machine?
So let me get this straight. When washing microfiber towels that have been used for different purposes, the dirt will come loose and attach it self to another towel? You should probably buy a new washing machine, it sounds like the one you have now is broken since it won't remove the dirt from the microfiber towels you are washing.
just got some workhorse towels , a wooly mammoth, and 2 applicators. It says to wash these before my first use. So i was wondering can I just throw them all together before my first use since they havent been used yet?
I dont run a detail company so i dont go insane like this. I throw them in the washing machine, choose the hot water setting, use a small amount of a non scented detergent and then dry them immediately. I them fold them and put them in a $10 plastic tub from home depot. I wash my cars every couple weeks and do a good interior clean once a month or so. Honestly, the cars stay pretty spotless and at the end of the day thats why i do it. If i really beat up a microfiber i toss it.
I use your color system for my towels I’m curious tho, for towels with wax or let’s say V36 that I buffed off can I wash these with my green colored towels I use for quick detailing ? What about the VPR or silk shine dressing will those be okay to mix with my towels I use for interior? Trying to not cross contaminate
Hi Anthony, good question. We separate microfiber towels based on colors. So all the green exterior towels can be washed together, but you don't want to mix the green exterior towels with the yellow interior ones or the blue glass ones. Thanks for watching, Anthony, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family!
Hey guys, outstanding channel with many great vids! Question: How many washes will your microfibers hold up through? Not so much concerning the staining and soiling which can vary to use/application (I did kill one with a single use cleaning up a differential!) ... but more over the life of the towels under normal use. How to know what the "life span" is?
Depends on how they're used and depends on how they're washed. But, with regular use I would say 6-8 months. Maybe 15 cleaning cycles before they should be replaced, the fibers are not nearly as effective after that point.
Thanks for the awesome feedback, Andre, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family! Make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
I should've watched this before washing my towels ^^' granted they're new towels and I haven't really used any waxes and whatnot other than car wash soap and some tire and rim cleaner
I'm confuse, some detail guys say wash microfiber in cold and not hot? Which one is it.... Pan the organizer has a whole video on washing them and say don't wash them hot use warm or cold
There a Grid-wall Panel Organizer Here's a Google Image Link: www.google.com/search?q=gridwall+panel+baskets&biw=1920&bih=955&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiGnJKu0KHOAhXJOiYKHeyUAggQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=oKcWXqdROxYrvM%3A
How's it going, I think you should use the Glass and Window Waffle Weave Towel, or the workhorse blue towel with nonsense or inner clean. Be sure to spray directly into the towel, DO NOT spray directly on to your electronics. Make sure to buff off immediately, don't let the chemicals sit as they absorb into the screen and damage the sensitive electronics underneath.
So if I used a very basic, organic, no scent detergent for maybe 2-3 washes then are my microfiber towels messed up? They seem fine to me. If I washed them with the microfiber wash would that help them get back to pristine condition?
Thanks for the awesome question, and being a member of the Chemical Guys family. Tumble them dry on low heat or no heat. High heat will literally melt the fibers while fabric softener and bleach will eliminate the electric charge that makes microfiber so effective
Hey Chemical guys. Great video. Bought some of the wash as well. My question is, since I DO use dryer sheets (fabric softener) for my normal day to day clothing, etc., am I still ok to put the microfiber towels in my same dryer just without a dryer sheet? Or will the any "leftover" from past dryer sheets affect the micro fibers?
Hey there, I'll be glad to answer that for you. You should be fine to use the dryer without the sheets, it won't damage the towels as long as you dry on low, and wash on hot.
Is this soap safe to use in my personal washer and dryer like it won't cause any cross-contamination for my face cloths shower towels and clothes for future loads?
@@ChemicalGuys good yeah I just my skin type of hypoallergenic so I was just making sure it's not going to let you know leave any residue from the car cleaning agents behind. What's the name of the soap to buy again?
Everyone making fun of this for being an advertisement are kinda dumb for not expecting it. They give a detailed explanation of why other products don’t work hence why everyone is here bc they don’t know how to clean their towels. To follow this people not understanding the separation of towels when washing it’s very simple. Yes your towels will clean but and products that were used on say a green towel will blend in with other towels you don’t want product on. The wash will clean the dirt but not all of the product will be completely washed out due to the nature of the chemicals/compounds in waxing/polishing products.
Hi Eric! Good question. We recommend washing any microfibers applicators and towels with Microfiber Wash Cleaning Detergent. Chemical Guys Microfiber Wash is a specialty detergent that cleans and restores microfiber. Microfiber Wash removes wax, polish, dirt, grease, and stains, and leaves microfiber goods with a fresh scent. I will link down below Chemical Guys Premium Grade Microfiber Applicator. Too wasteful with water. We don’t have the luxury of colour-coding our micro-fibre towels here in Southern California. We’re in our sixth year of drought.
Aves Raggiana well we shouldn't have that luxury but I don't think many people care. It's all fun and games until our fosets no longer pour out water. Lol
Robert D. Wasting water is never a good thing. Even when it’s plentiful like it is here in Michigan. We only have so much fresh water and need to take care of what we have.
Because CA is too busy feeding all their water to almond orchards and then adding tons of water to make almond milk, seems very silly your trying to squeeze juice from a nut!
So, I don't have any microfiber wash liquid and I don't intend to buy any. Its the weekend and I need to get my towels clean for a show I am getting the car ready for. What is the best alternative laundry detergent I can use to clean the towels?
My microfiber towles wouldn't grab anything after a couple of washes. I learned I need to wipe down the dryer with alcohol before I used it and run the washer empty. My wife loves some Snuggle softener like we own stock in.
i have a ton of microfiber towels which i have used for different projects..my question is this..will my project towels ever be clean enough to be used on my windows. or do i have to get a new set or color of towels that can only be used for my windows..thanks
Hi! We recommend the Glass and Window Waffle Weave Towel to clean any windows or mirrors. We recommend never cross contaminate any microfiber towels and always have them labeled. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family! Check link below. -CG Henry🤙 www.chemicalguys.com/Glass_and_Window_Waffle_Weave_Towel_p/mic_707_1.htm
Hi, great question. Yes, Microfiber Wash is formulated to be safe for use with standard & high efficiency machines. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
What if I only have a few towels from you guys? Like 5 total, and they are all different colors. What should I do then? Wash each towel separately ???? Or can I just put it all together in the wash? The only towels I have is a grey "waffle weave drying towel" and a "red happy ending" towel for wax and clay bar lubricant and a black regular microfiber towel to dry the tires and sometimes another happy ending towel for my quick detail spray. They are 1 towel each for different purposes. What should I do? I don't wanna waste water and soap for 1 towel but you guys are saying not to gross contaminate either. So what's the best option? Also I have a front facing facing wash. How would I add the soap in?
If you don't want to use a washing machine, you can wash them in a bucket of warm water and scrub them on a grit guard or with a brush. Once they're done, you can hang dry them but it won't have the best results as it would with a washer and dryer.
For a front loader washing machine, you ought to be able to add the cleaner to the detergent tray/dish on your unit. You should get the same results as you would adding it to a top loader.
+Chemical Guys. Do I have to separate towels of the same color if some towels are much dirtier than others? Also, can I wash the green towels with the CHEMICAL GUYS MIC_507_03 - PROFESSIONAL GRADE PREMIUM MICROFIBER TOWEL WITH SILK EDGES if they were used to dry a car after washing?
@@ChemicalGuys no it is NOT .... if you leave them outside they pick up all the dust that's in the air. THis and the hot water suggestion and I am now questioning all your products.
If you don't have enough OCD problems this will be a nice addition to add to your list of things to do.
I tried the microfiber wash for the first time today and had really good results. I did not separate the different towels and everything came out clean and fluffy.

You need 3 different washing machines for 3 different colors of microfiber towels.
...and they have to be Chemical Guys branded washing machines too!
He says dont wash together they cross contaminate then lays each on the other piles lol
And 3 different dryers because you don't want the residue to coat the interior of the barrel and it will cause cross contamination.
SUPER informative!!! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
If I mixed my towels and used fabric softener can I undo it by washing my towels more than once? With microfiber soap.
What is this video about? Everybody say it, Microfiber towels!!!!
Thanks CG ! I usually take my towels to the local laundromat you products are the best.
You should probably buy a new washing machine, it sounds like the one you have now is broken since it won't remove the dirt from the microfiber towels you are washing.
meanwhile, I take my bar of soap and rub on the dirty spot, rub them and wash em all under the sink.

I'm in AZ, store mine in a sealed plastic tub to keep dust out better.
Great idea, happy detailing!!
Can you mix and match color batches in the drier? Or keep all colors separate for the entire process?
Very important if you use a microfiber towel to wipe off ceramic residue, dispose of those towels immediately do not reuse. ❗👍
Great input Mopar Mike!!
We need a shop tour my guy
Great suggestion!
I remember being told to wash microfiber towels on cold because the heat destroys the micro hooks in the material.
I was told to wash them with cold water too 🤔🤔
Absolutely love your products. I finally have a way to clean shine and protect by new Jeep wrangler JKU.
That's awesome, glad you like it, I just used some to clean my car over the weekend, it looked better than the day I drove it off the lot.
Which color code towel do you recommend for engine bay cleaning/detailing?
Red
Easy to remember a traffic signal color pattern, right? Red means stop! Don't use this on interior or exterior!
can i use my regular washing machine, will that cross chemicals used with my clothes?
just got some workhorse towels , a wooly mammoth, and 2 applicators.
Do you use a dryer sheet to dry them or no? If so, which one?
What's up guys this is very very helpful, I'll put in an order, thanks
Any alternative if we dont have the microfiber wash ? Can i use car shampoo?
I use the chemical guys microfiber wash and it works great I do get them really dirty so I use a little extra
Thanks for your awesome feedback, we are glad to have you part of the Chemical Guys family!
Won't the hot water damage the microfibre haswell? Because mricrofibre melts at anything over 60°C?
Yup, its better to wash with cold water which was mentioned in another video.
Great job and right to the point.
Thanks for the awesome feedback, Andre, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family! Make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
He should use the word "Microfiber" more, people forget what he's talking about.
Will use it as a drinking game video at partys.
I should've watched this before washing my towels ^^' granted they're new towels and I haven't really used any waxes and whatnot other than car wash soap and some tire and rim cleaner
Happy detailing!
I'm confuse, some detail guys say wash microfiber in cold and not hot? Which one is it.... Pan the organizer has a whole video on washing them and say don't wash them hot use warm or cold
I know this off topic but what is that wall mount rack shelf thingy in the background I love it and I want to know where I can get one for myself?
There a Grid-wall Panel Organizer
Here's a Google Image Link:

what micro fiber would be best for laptop screen & what liquid should i use
How's it going, I think you should use the Glass and Window Waffle Weave Towel, or the workhorse blue towel with nonsense or inner clean. Be sure to spray directly into the towel, DO NOT spray directly on to your electronics. Make sure to buff off immediately, don't let the chemicals sit as they absorb into the screen and damage the sensitive electronics underneath.
At 3:17 you really avoided cross contamination
Would you add those dryer sheets or say just low heat only
Hey! Good question, just use low heat/tumble dry.
Good Gawd. Let’s get these men organizing daily laundry.
😁
So if I used a very basic, organic, no scent detergent for maybe 2-3 washes then are my microfiber towels messed up? They seem fine to me. If I washed them with the microfiber wash would that help them get back to pristine condition?
Thanks for the awesome question, and being a member of the Chemical Guys family. Tumble them dry on low heat or no heat. High heat will literally melt the fibers while fabric softener and bleach will eliminate the electric charge that makes microfiber so effective
You guys are over the top and some many things, but thats probably what makes you successful...
Chemical Guys Awesome! Thanks! Loving the products and they videos too! Keep kicking ass.
I am glad to see that a valid question has a valid answer. Usually great questions wont get answered.
Is this soap safe to use in my personal washer and dryer like it won't cause any cross-contamination for my face cloths shower towels and clothes for future loads?
Absolutely!
You have the applicator pads shown. How are those supposed to be cleaned?
Lol
Oh boo hoo. Move to Michigan, close to Lake Michigan where you can leave the taps on 25 hrs a day, 8 days a week!
@@2006gtobob Sure. Drink the leaded water in Michigan anytime and get you some brain damage.
NEW DRINKIG GAME! every time he says "microfiber towel" take a drink... youll be hammered with in 60 seconds! by 2:00 you'll have alcohol poisoning
I tried that and died. Thanks for nutin
Chemical guys always trying to sell u some stuff.... lol it’s just soap guys
Can I just use regular detergent to wash the Speed Mamouth microfiber cloth?
Hey! Avoid using detergents that contain bleach, fabric softeners and starch as these will damage the microfiber.
So, I don't have any microfiber wash liquid and I don't intend to buy any. Its the weekend and I need to get my towels clean for a show I am getting the car ready for. What is the best alternative laundry detergent I can use to clean the towels?
Try to use something WITHOUT fabric softener or bleach.
Avoid the stuff with scents or additives. Go with something plain, Jane.
G P Tide Free&gentle
I've used vinegar to get wax out.
my daughter has babyganics soapfor her clothes . maybe I'll use that since it's made out of plants.
-CG Henry🤙

Is this product ok if you have one of those High-Efficiency washer machines?
Hi, great question. Yes, Microfiber Wash is formulated to be safe for use with standard & high efficiency machines. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
Hot wash? you want 40 C Max or you're gonna ruin them!
So can I mix them together but wash them in separate bundles 🤔🤔
Does it gum up your washer or can you use your washer for regular Laundry too?
Hey Paul! It is perfectly safe for your washing machine.
I use synthetic program at 60°C.
Is it good?
I can't believe I ever tried to wash my car before finding this channel... novice
Great video I just used to turf them away after they got dirty not anymore.
Thanks, I needed that!
Saves you money over time so you don't waste towel after towel!
Would allowing the towels to air dry in my garage make a huge difference to the final result over using a commercial dryer?
Nope
You should get the same results as you would adding it to a top loader.
hooosifa you must buy enough of each color to make a full load of each color.
Beautiful Ducati
Thanks for watching!
Question.. Can you dry all your towels together once they are washed? Or still have to do it separate?
Hi there! It is perfectly fine to dry freshly cleaned microfibers together.
Do the exact same methods apply to the more special MF and Waffle Weave drying towels?
Hey! It's the guy from night at the museum.
😄
Can the microfiber be dry under the sun? Would that cause damage to the microfiber?
Hey! It is perfectly fine to let your microfiber towels air dry.
@@ChemicalGuys no it is NOT .... if you leave them outside they pick up all the dust that's in the air. THis and the hot water suggestion and I am now questioning all your products.
Let’s drink a shot of whiskey every time they say “here at chemical guys”
