great video man I have the first pocket 6k and thinking of getting the 6k pro as my a cam Blackmagic is a great company for what they give us out of these cameras
I would definitely say the $500 premium is well worth it for the pro. Internal nds bright screen and tiltable. But May hold out May have a camera around the corner 👀
I have to completely agree, I have the pocket 4K and love it for pretty much the same reasons, especially when I get the super 35 look with a speedbooster. However since picking up my Sony fx3 I have to admit I don’t pick the 4K up as much for client work these days. I film in very run and gun situations and for me the speed of using autofocus with the Sony has dramatically improved my workflow for that type of work while still getting cinema camera quality. If I were getting more commercial style jobs that are slower paced I totally would be reaching for the blackmagic more and most likely using it with cine lenses like the dzo’s as I think that’s the best way to get the most out of these cameras.
Totally get where you are coming from, Sony just a perfect setup for a grab and go/mobile scenario! Blackmagic definitely for the more controlled environment
I still use 4k and in most situations I would say it's very similar to URSA mini 4.6. But URSA definitely has smoother highlight rolloff and more pleasing depth of field rendering.
It’s the best image I’ve ever pulled. I have the canon cinema cams also, which get a lot of run and gun use, but when I need to get the wow factor on the visuals, pocket 6k pro wins out every time.
I have bmpcc 4k and I use davinci resolve studio version that I got for free since I bought blackmagic product and I must say that I agree with you when you said using their camera and the best editing software is definitely a game changer
@@kilenmurphy I bought my 4k in 2020 and I still love using it... there are many flaws with 4k to be honest but those flaws don't really bother me... rather than technical aspects of a camera I'm more into cinematography and editing so from my stand point nothing beats blackmagic cameras when it comes to image quality... the images I get out of my 4k is really pleasing and the fact that braw gives me plenty of dynamic range to play around with is too good.
i own the 6K Pro myself I currently use the Rokinon 35MM t1.5 and 24MM t1.4 Cine lenses but I do plan on upgrading to DZO in the future I do have videos on my channel using both lenses on my ronin s with the camera and I’m workin on 2 short film projects love these lenses for zoom shots I use my canon 70-200mm f2.8g and for low light situations I’ll use my sigma 18-35MM
I love this camera! My main camera is the BlackMagic Production 4k but I've been using the 6k Pro to supplement. Do you do most of your run-and-gun handheld? Any stabilizers you'd recommend for the 6k pro? Great video, BTW.
Its a beast! I would say 90 percent of the work I do is handheld. If I do use a gimbal it has to be a very intentional shot I am trying to get. Thanks for these words!
Crazy what blackmagic is giving us with the pocket cameras in terms of image quality! What focal lengths are u going for in the dzo primes? I can't decide whether to ditch the sigma for them or not 😬 maybe the 25 might be a good all rounder! Also what media do you use for Weddings, Samsung t5? Sorry for all the questions haha and amazing work as per Kilen!
It just cannot be beat and the ability to punch in when needed that has saved me so many times haha. DZO right now 16,21,40. Then have the Canon 85 and 24-105 for ceremony. Media using the Cinema pro Cfast to not have to worry about cables. Its all good and Appreciate the words! I need to get out to Scotland 👀
@@kilenmurphy thank you! Oo those cards seem pretty good value, I'll look into them, yeah the cables for the t5 can be annoying for sure. Ohhh man you would enjoy up north here, the Isle of Skye etc 😍 one day we will make it out to Oregon for sure!
“Still”? Lol It’s a 6K sensor with amazing highlight rolloff and organic image and is the closest match to an ARRI for under $3K. It’ll be relevant for at least another few years.
You are wrong, when it comes to IBIS. Gyro data comes in 2nd best though. Digital stabilisation requires sharpness, so any filters you apply will interfere with it, so that one is going to die. As for your 6k Pro: I shoot Canon, Panasonic and BMPCC (4k and 6k, not 6k Pro) and you're right: the right tool for the right job. Not every tool is good at everything and it's best to know your tool in and out and know it's shortcomings. If it works for you, then it's the right tool.
Totally respect where you are coming from and from a technical perspective I am sure you are right. Just from my experience in post I find gyro to be an efficient post processing technique when I need it.
I would still use 4k if they packed everything into a smaller redesigned body, added a movable screen and put a stronger battery. (this is just an idea they won't hear)
RUclips is insane. "Why I'm still using" and the latest release of a high end camera should NOT be in the same sentence. This is a very toxic culture now thanks to youtubers thinking you have to upgrade after every release of a camera
I love how you say best camera for under $2500 when in reality this camera requires most add ons in the industry to make it useable. Realistically this camera is $3500 or $4000 depending on how you rig it, and you have to rig it because its unusable otherwise. The image quality is great but not better than a7s3 or fx3. It might have more detail because of the extra resolution but less dynamic range so its basically the same in terms of iq. I also find it funny how all the bm users disregard the autofocus, as if its nothing. Autofocus today is a big deal if you are a one person crew and it gives you a lot more shooting options. I can let a bride walk towards the camera at any speed and she will be in focus for the entirety of the shot even on a 100+mm focal length. Now ofc you will not be attempting that type of shot, because the technology doesnt allow you to do it as a solo shooter. This is how the camera is limiting the creative process, and you should mention it as well. All the bm reviewers are only higlighting the positives and brush away the negatives as if they dont matter. Yes the camera is great, but its definetly not the best camera for weddings regardless of how you look at it.
I have a FX6, FX3 and a Pocket 6k Pro, and I can tell you that there is even more dynamic range with the Blackmagic. And the image is also much better (better details "not sharpness" / better texture and better skin tones).
@@jsleger3404 i wonder how you get different dynamic range results than the rest of the world. Even black magic themselves claim they have like 13 stops while sony claim to have 15. Those numbers might not be exactly accurate because brands tend to overhype their tech where possible, but most dynamic range tests favor sony cameras. I do agree on the “more detail” part of your comment because 6k will have more detail than 4k in most cases. Better skintones? Do you mean straight out of the camera or after grading? Also using which codec on the sony? Also what does better mean? You like it more or is it objectively better?
What are your thoughts on this camera going into 2023!?
Love your work dude! I still use the 4k and I'm still in love with quality!
I 100% agree with you! Love my 6k pro, always go to it for that breathtaking image quality & workflow of braw
Excellent points bro! I whole heartedly agree
Appreciate this man! Love your content btw!
Couldn't agree more:-)
Thanks, I love too my 6kpro since day one. Sony has an incredible hype but color science, reliability, nds... Awesome.
Nice job. I'm a believer!
4K, 6K, 6K Pro and 6K G2 are still extremely relevant just based on image quality and Braw. And then there’s the UI. So many benefits.

Only my diet did lol

What do you think of the new FF 6K for a first camera? Plan to get a VND to go with it.
Which format you shoot for wedding videos ? Could you share the lens and matte box you are using ?
