Hi Everyone, and thanks for all of the great feedback! This was the first video we did with narration overlaid with the music. When we were editing it sounded OK, but once we uploaded it quickly became apparent that the volume of the music is a little bit too high compared to the voice-over bits. We hope it doesn't spoil you from enjoying the video too much. The sound is (hopefully) good with all our other videos. 🎧🎶🔊🤯
Sailed the North sea into farthest north of 61 Norwegian really rough waters dangerous but have to believe in the boat and yourself great times no fear
Great video, thank you. I love the shots along the side deck of Hiraeth really "leaning into it". The poetry in motion of a powerful, efficient sailing boat doing what it does best. 👍
As a Norwegian myself, I'd argue that sailboats with a pilot house is the only rational thing up here. I sit in the cockpit in a t-shirt and my boxers when I'm out sailing with the diesel heater running. It's cold enough when you have to get out and trim/taking up and down the sails. Imo northern sailing almost have to have a pilot house if you don't wanna burn yourself out. But by all means, for each it's own.
Beautiful job, thanks for the nice video! We plan to sail a similar passage in 2026 and we are preparing as best we can. What were the dates of your north sea crossing please? Thanks, Patrick
Bellissimo video, io guardo tutti i vostri video in inglese e in italiano anche se io sono spagnolo e vivo ad Alicante. Da quanto capisco, NSS ha una base a Portorosa da dove si può raggiungere LIpari in poche ore?
Superb vlog filming is great multi talented you guys, even passed close to my old day job in the North Sea.🥃 Glad you visited unst I used to fly in there to crew change.
Great trip. Just a suggestion - keep the music level down a bit compared to speech or else I'm hitting the volume all the time - it's only background. :)
Thanks for the feedback, as this was the first video we had made with narration overlaid it was a learning process and the audio levels once published unfortunately don't sound balanced. We found a way to resolved this for our following videos.
Loving it. Hope to make the same trip, maybe next year. Nice boat. Though the rolly polly interior shot, reminds me why I sail a catamaran. ( curiously, just bought from Gigha) (correct me please, but is it not Al-e-sund)
I have nothing but respect for you two. I’m from Sweden and the fact people WILLINGLY go across this sea just to visit Scandinavia is beyond me. Really great video even if the accent was slightly hard to understand. Greetings from Sweden
Lovely stuff. It has to be a challenge trying to convey a sense of the sheer scale of the open ocean but you managed to capture it well. It wasn't just the grandeur of the huge, fabulously painted skies and the long-anticipated coastline revealing itself on the horizon, it was in the small details, such as the kettle swaying on the gimbal and the rain drumming against the canopy, where as a viewer I really began to feel the journey. p.s. Norway is beautiful, by the way. Who Knew?
Great vid, really gives you an amazing feel for the sea,the journey and the places along the way and Hiraeth looks great on the open water. Thanks for giving us landlubbers a taste of the freedom of the sea. Watch out Attenborough, there are some new narrators in town. Can’t wait for episode 2, the fans demand more.
When did you sail. The North Sea seems like a mill pond! How did you make that happen?!!! 😅 Seriously though what a wonderful adventure to take. Hats off to you both.
Hi, I really enjoyed you video - great length with excellent content. What time of year did you set off from Scotland (I'm planning a similar trip with some friends and will follow you with interest)?
We left Stornoway mid May, the weather was perfect and we didn't have to wait long for a window. You could set off earlier without to much of a problem.
As with everything you do, you make it look so easy, but I know the blood, sweat and laughter that went into getting “Hiraeth” and yourselves ready. “We covered the remaining 250 nautical miles in 36 hours…” Sounds simple, but…….Great filming (I recognise the first 15 seconds!), dulcet commentary and brilliant choice of music. I’ve subscribed……
No it’s not just you, unfortunately we had a few issues with the audio on our first 2 videos and this can’t be changed once publishing on RUclips. This has now been rectified for following videos.

Hi there. No, there are no depth issues in the Caledonian canal for a boat our size (1.9m draft). Distance wise the routes are exactly the same (Clyde to Alesund), though as we can usually sail faster than we can motor it's actually quicker for us. Besides, we prefer to sail and we saved the £350 on the transit license fee for the canal, and added it to our Norwegian beer money fund. Which works out at one bottle of beer and a small glass of wine. 😂
Hi, I am one of the unfortunate people who has to use headphones when watching on RUclips, I absolutely love your videos but have to watch on mute. when your music breaks in my hearing condition is a big no, no. Reg
Thanks for the comment Reg Sorry about the audio, as this was our first video and we are just 2 sailors sharing our adventure it was a steep learning curve and editing sound was a whole new voyage. We only realised there was an issues once it had been published and unfortunately we are now unable to correct it. We have been mindful of this issue in all our following videos. Let’s us know if you notice an improvement.

Beatiful!
Nice work, and great to see someone heading north instead of the beaten track to the Caribbean.
I know nothing about sailing, but that was a great vlog, you guys are so brave,if you ever need a 64 year old tea boy ,I'm your man 🏴😎🙏
Superbe.
Thx a lot.
High latitude sailing is so different! My boat has a large bimini and is covered in solar panels. Love those long daylight hours!
I’m a novice and I’m old but I’m loving your video .
Good and down to earth. Respect!
Beautiful video. Beautiful boat. Well done.
Wow , what a great adventure . That is what I call living life!
Hats off to you both and I can't wait until the next episode.
great video, great sailing and a lovely sure boat with sure sailors

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video.
This was our first one.
We sailed across to Norway mid May, and came back to Scotland from Iceland mid September.

Agreed…though do like the choice
…and the storey telling is really good, well paced, relaxing…but not so slow you nod off

You don't hang about. Lots of channels would have made that distance into ten episodes.

We left Stornoway mid May, the weather and sea state was perfect!

Hi. Great video. Which month did you cross the North Sea? It seems like early summer, but it would be informative to know the dates. Thank you!
We crossed from Stornoway to Ålesund in mid May.

Great video, we really enjoyed it. Full of good sailing and concise narrative. What time of year did you leave Stornoway?
We left Stornoway in the middle of May, and we had some great weather.
@@SailingHiraeth Thank you. We are just watching the rest of the videos on your trip 👍
