I think 12 string guitar music is the best music every guitarist should enjoy. Keep up the amazing 12 string guitar playing.
Hey Bradley. Thanks so much for taking the time to jump on the chat today and for checking out the video. I really appreciate your time and input. I hope you have a great week. Mark
My Rok Loks are due to deliver today! Great video. Thanks!
Yeah, Amazon tells you AFTER the fact that you should wait 2 weeks after sending products to them to start selling. :(
frik'in incredible video. Timely, well executed. Brilliant.
lol. thanks Clem. I really appreciate the sentiment. Mark
haha! i don't recall a kazoo in hotel california before - maybe i need to listen to it again! and thanks for the reminder, mark - i need to get a couple sets of those rok-loks - love from canada!
I think it's Joe Walsh who plays the kazoo on the original track. It's mixed back a little. ;)
Interesting selection, well played again Mark 🎸🎸🎸🙂
Hey Sandra. I hope you're well. Songs that I thought would have made A.I.'s list: Walk Right In, Mr. T Man, Ticket to Ride, Dead or Alive, and More than a Feeling. Take care and have a great week. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe And I might have expected Hazy Shade of Winter to be in that list.
But all such lists are incomplete. There's always just one more that should be on it!
Fred
Clearly AI is flawed because it didn't include your favorite Zebra song in the top ten, and it's riff stunk.
Keep the Douche Henley digs coming😂
Mark! What an interesting topic! Only you would come up with this clever idea! I always look forward to your videos; fresh and interesting and all things 12 string! Keep it up!
I agree! There’s always something unique about the channel!
Thanks for the pre-video comment Richard. You always go above and beyond to support and I sincerely appreciate it. Mark
it's the upside of bi-polar...😀
Thanks for another awesome video
Thanks again for your time. :)
awesome video and awesome new guitar. Nice strap locks too!
God Gave Rok Lok and Roll to You
Love the Don Henley visits! A real champion for the common man, lol.
love to hear Rush
Did you ever see my two Rush videos. They were very early in the channel. A TRIBUTE TO NEIL PEART ruclips.net/video/wfZF8Gex1SE/видео.html

i think i have but i think i'll go watch them again.@@8MinuteAxe
I love the sound of the 12 string, so bright and chimey...
Great idea and great video Mark. I'll be surprised if this isn't one of your biggest videos.
I keep thinking that but they always stall me out.
Rok-Loks are for sale. How come no big grand opening kinda thing. I just bought one.
Mark-- another awesome video!! Lots of fun!
Great thinking outside the box Mark!
I really appreciate that. It's coming on four years. It's getting hard to come up with something truly original. Thanks for taking the time to support the channel. Have a great day and take care. Mark
Great video Mark.
Thanks for ALWAYS supporting Tom.
Well done Mark. Of course you were the one who gave AI the instructions to come up with the list and the script. By the way, I like that Squier 12. I'll see if I can find one to try out at a local store. I could have purchased a Fender Alternate Reality 12 string in Olympic white in that limited run 5 or 6 years ago. I wish I had pulled the trigger.
Hey Ross. I think I got a dud. For the first time ever I have a guitar that I can't get properly intonated. It is nice. Thanks so much for checking out the video. As always your time and comments are much appreciated. Mark
The Rok Lok King!!!
Amazon has been less than easy to work with so far. Just a lot of stuff to learn, first and foremost, the lingo.
Great video Mark, I agree with most of the picks
It did a really good job. If I had to guess what it would have picked Walk Right In, Mr. T Man, Ticket to Ride, Dead or Alive, and More than a Feeling would have been in there. Thanks so much for your time. Take care and have a great week. Mark
I agree I like Free Falling but you are right those other ones are better chooses. Mark are you going to have those Rok-Lok tees for sale on your website too, you did a nice design logo for your product
Very creative project Mark! I really enjoyed it! I have no qualms with the songs either. Glad you’re back!
Trying my best. Burning the candle at both ends. But you only live once.
Again another entertaining video brother👍🎸
Thanks Jim. It was fun to make too. Sometimes that's not the case. :)
Well done, as always!
Thanks. This one was a lot of fun. Make it a great week. Be good and stay safe. Mark
Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds is my #1 all time greatest 12 string guitar song. Hands down, no questions asked. It put Rickenbacker's 12 string 360 on the map for every significant rock and pop songs of the 1960's from that point onward. Hard to believe it will be almost 60 years on since it's 1965 release.
I couldn't agree more. I have an entire video about it called the Riff That Made the 12-String Famous. It's also my most popular video with almost 1 million views. I've also done three other 12-string countdowns in which it finished 1st, 1st, and 2nd (to Eight Miles High) respectively. I would say that George's use of the 12 on A Hard Day's Night (album) is what launched the entire thing. But George didn't play the 12 on Ed SullivanWhat's even more hard to believe is that grunge hit 30 years ago. Wasn't that like last month? LOL. Thanks so much for checking out the video. Other songs that I was surprised weren't on the list: Ticket to Ride, Walk Right In, More Than a Feeling, Give A Little Bit, Wanted Dead or Alive. Thanks so much for your time. Mark
Mark, I appreciate your thoughts! Have a great one!@@8MinuteAxe
I have never played guitar but this 12 strings make me want to try it
Another great video Mark, and as has been mentioned below, what a cool concept! I thought that AI’s choices were very good and surprisingly aligned with what I would think many people would choose. The AI created riff is very good - do you think you will be taking that forward into a new song of your own creation? Now that would be interesting - a human/AI collaboration!
Great work as always - thank you 😎
I wanted to make it short but in hindsight I should have included the blurbs it spit out for each song. It gave a little rationale for each pick. The list is exact EXCEPT it chose Losing My Religion at #10. When I pointed out that Losing My Religion isn't a 12-string song it said, you're right, it's a mandolin, and replaced it with AHDN. Thanks so much for your time and comment. Take care. Mark
The video was so good, I watched it three times
I sincerely appreciate your time. Thanks for hopping on the chat too. I hope you have a great week. Take care. Mark
AI enabled tools of all sorts are pretty amazing, but we've only scratched the surface. The tech is astounding but still needs a lot of work. (In my other life I'm an AI business guy). Just be sure to always give it the human touch, no matter what and Google and everyone else will be happy! lol Great video, Mark. A good angle for future ones, I think. If you do, I may put links to your videos on mine when I have 'em going.
Hey James. Thanks for the input. Comments like this really add to the community. I've been taking a couple of classes (one is a simple how to max generative prompts and the other is wide reaching class that I just started. Mark
Wow what a fascinating thing to do. As usual your guitar makes it most enjoyable. A.I. does make things really, really thought provoking - it's use could be an incredible boon to humanity but it's dark side is frightening. I loved this video and btw - has anyone ever told you that you look like the great football (soccer) player Lionel Messi? Great stuff as usual Mark - thanks for the video and thought provoking content. Cheers! P.S. - on my way to watching the video 3 times which is easy to do with the great content!
Sooo cool. You come up with the greatest ideas!!❤
Helloooo
One of your all timers!!! Diggin the new guitar btw!
Fun one to make too.
Loved it!
Got my Rok-Lok the other day, very very nice...
Thabks so muc for the support and the feedback. If you could, I would really appreciate it if you could go on Amazon and give it a 5 star review. They should send you something asking you. Early reviews can make or break a product have a great day. Mark
I started playing guitar on August 26, 2022, and have played every day since. I own several guitars now, but I am very interested in picking up a 12 string. Your channel has been a great resource. Thanks, Mark. I really appreciate what you're doing here. :)
Hey Doug. Kudos to you for the commitment. Shoot me an email at markaranalli@gmail.com if you need help with anything or need any advice (for that I can send you to a good shrink. lol). I encourage you to watch this video SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT GUITAR LESSON ruclips.net/video/HPZna9-VewY/видео.html and this one. I appreciate your time and comment. Mark
Another awesome video and incorporating AI into the mix was really cool ! To bad AI can't feel the emotion each song produces though. See you on the next one !
I guess that will be the next step. What if only sad people program.....
@@8MinuteAxe That would be even sadder !
I would be interested in reading some of the detailed reasons for the song choices by AI if you would care to share any.
10. "A Hard Day's Night" - The Beatles: The 12-string guitar intro by George Harrison is iconic.
1. "Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd: The intro to this song is one of the most well-known 12-string guitar parts.
and for some it just stated the obvious... 8. "Free Fallin'" - Tom Petty: The main riff is played on a 12-string.
@@8MinuteAxe Very interesting. What boggles my mind is how AI can come up with answers so quickly, when you consider the vast amount of information out there it has to search.
This was one of my favorite videos by you! (Not to say the others weren't great) Great video, maybe there is hope for A.I., it has great taste in music!
Yes, thankfully Heartbreak Station by Cinderella did not make the top 10. :)
I would have put The Byrds "The Bells of Rhymney" on the list. Quintessential 12 string Rickenbacker song.
Great idea for a video! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey Scott. I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever. Thanks for supporting for all these...years..now. Wow the time goes fast. Mark
Loved the concept of the video. How does the Squire compare to the Reverend in playability and quality. Looking to buy a 12 electric soon. Wait did I hear Don banging on your door for his money during the video.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the intonation. I think I just got a bad one. It plays reasonably overall. I haven't found an electric 12 that compares to the Reverend. Granted, the only other guitar in its price point is the Ric and that's a love it or hate it thing but the Reverend really is something special. Thanks so much for your time and comment. Take care. Mark
Nice idea Axe...
Interesting and timely idea. I might argue the order (my Beatle bias showing), but all are quality songs. And the new riff is cool, too. As always, well played, Mark.
Hey Carl. I would have thought that Ticket to Ride, More Than a Feeling, Wanted Dead or Alive and especially Walk Right In and Mr. Tambourine Man would have made the list. We could always add If I Needed Someone, Eight Days A Week, I Should Have Known Better, and Anytime at All to the list. :)
@@8MinuteAxe I'm ok with ALL of those, Mark!
Great videos. Very informative. TY
Great playing Mark. The AI selections are pretty good. I also like the new riff.
Hey John. Thanks so much for checking it out. It figures A.I. is a Pink Floyd fan. LOL. take care. Mark
Well that was very interesting Mark. Great playing, as always Sir. So A.I. thinks Don should play the Kazoo? Now that's funny. Cheers!!
Be well.
All great songs, but I think that AI messed up with a Hard Days Night...... It should have been near the top of the list. And what about Walk Right In with 2 12' s.
Hey Don. I was surprised that Walk Right In wasn't on the list. Especially when it gave me little blurbs for each, rationalizing each pick.
A.I. must be a fan of Foreigner's "Double Vision". Good post!
Love the look of the paranormal XII
Enjoyed the video Mark I like the way you put the names of the songs at the bottom cause I don't know old rock songs but I do now.
A good list. I would have included the Beatles Norwegian Wood
Great idea for a video, and some great AI prompts there, too, Mark!
And of course great playing, as always.
The choices, however, weren't very different from yours, i guess.
Anyway, keep showing AI who's boss! 🤪
Keep rocking! Love form India.
Hey Skanoza! Thanks so much for checking out the video. Yeah, A.I. really didn't pick anything too surprising. Actually, the original list had one small change. A.I. picked "Losing My Religion" by REM. When I told A.I. that I didn't think Losing has a 12 it said "you're right. It's a mandolin. My bad. I'll replace it with A Hard Day's Night". Take care and be well. Mark
I really loved the AI riff at the end !!! it sounds like some of the stuff I sit around and make up !!! still learning getting better every day !! it may sound odd but the 12 string has really sparked something in me to play more and Mark when I watch your videos I can't go to bed without picking up one of my 12 strings and trying some of the stuff you played !! thanks for keeping it interresting for me !! try some more of the AI stuff like to see where it could go !!!
Hey Mark awesome content as always, love the sound of the 12 string so unique in its own way and as for the Top 3 I think any of them could be No 1 for all the right reasons but I guess that’s why they became and will always remain classics.
I think AI did a pretty fair job of picking the top 10 - I think those choices would make almost anyone's Top 15. I'd probably reorder them a bit. Might have substituted More than a Feeling, or Dead or Alive for the Beatles. Regarding the AI-generated riff, it sounds good as a rhythm lick, but doesn't really allow those octave strings to sing out so much. I liked it, but it's not a great solo riff. Now, the question is, what sort of original riff can YOU show us, Mark! :)
kuzu man made me blow coffee out of my nose....
Like your videos and you helped me decide on my next guitar. Now I just need a amp. The spark looks good.
I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my videos and to comment. If you're looking for a one stop practice amp, you can't go wrong. If you'd prefer a nice little warm tube amp check out the AC-4 (of course, then you have to get an effects pedal if you're looking to recreate all kinds of sounds). This video kinda gives you the two main options in my opinion ruclips.net/video/Y1te1zHp5WE/видео.html. Take care and stay safe. Mark
Watched the video, now I have more research to do. Will the AC-4 work with acoustic? Thanks for your help,@@8MinuteAxe
Thanks Mark!
i like the squire 12 string with p90s!
I have worked with the local University machine learning and AI lab the past few summers - it’s definitely interesting and something to be knowledgeable about, regardless of your profession.
Nice to see that those things hanging on your walls not only reflect your sense of interior decor stylings, but double as musical instruments. Hmmm....A. I. ?
Oh, American Indian ! Cool :]
Is the Jazzmaster 12 a new purchase? It looks very nice. I hope it plays well.
What are your thoughts on the Squier XII? Thanks.
A.I . picked some great 12 string songs, and like AI s riff, would love to win a 12 string guitar so I can start playing some of these great 12 string songs too.
, keep doing what you are doing Mark I love 8 Min Axe.
The AI rife sounded better then I was expecting.
Not a bad list.
Hey Mark, not too bad of list. Can we get tabs for the AI Riff?
Hey Mark,
I have to share with you one of the most amazing 12 string songs I've ever heard. "Quincunx"
This song is composed and played by Alexandra Zerner, an amazing Bulgarian born musician.
It's from her 2015 album "Aspects".
She plays everything you hear on this album, so it is indeed a solo album.
Here is a link to her RUclips video of this piece.
ruclips.net/video/u-IxNUBDpOY/видео.html
Beginning at the 2:00 minute mark, it is simply amazing what she does with a 12 string acoustic.
Enjoy!
I thought the AI Top 10 list was really pretty good.
Hey Peter. I couldn't agree more. There are a couple of songs that I would have thought AI would pick (Walk Right In, More Than a Feeling) but overall nothing that simply doesn't belong. Thanks so much for checking it out. Take care. Mark
Why didn't you use the double neck for stairway?
Hey Terry. I always use the doubleneck when I play stairway (the full cover, the page 12 string masters video, and several others. I just got the paranormal last week and since Jimmy tracked Staireay with the Fender XII I figured I'd throw in a new take. Thanks for checking it out. Take care. Mark
The following is an AI generated comment:
Hard to argue with the list and given the a priori criteria used the order is correct.
OK. I lied. That’s my comment. Not AI.
It would be interesting to see a list if different input criteria were used.
Cool video Mark!
I'm pretty sure it would continue to tap into some portion of randomness with in a finite pool. That's my uneducated guess. LOL. Mark
hey Mark, how you doing?
Always wanted to play “stairway to heaven“ on a 12 strings 🤤
Yes very true. Rickenbaucker has earned they way .the beetles started that....not to often you see a 12 string electric there far and few
Interesting AI riff
Your youtube page is taunting me. My brother is a retired air force pilot. When we were kids he LOVED to build models. He's 6 years older than me. He would build a model of a plane and slowly, patiently, and deliberately add each piece, nailing every detail. My model would be a big ball of glue, paint, and plastic. As a young adult he would build the really challenging cars with 500 pieces just for the engine (that may be a stretch, I have no idea). Actually, your channel brought back some fond memories. :)
@@8MinuteAxe Thankx! I enjoy building things, including guitars! my guitar channel is @kingbobsguitarwerks
No Tambourine Man?
What!!! No Leo Kottke?
Hasn't AI heard of Leo Kottke or Rodger Hodgson?
You may enjoy this. It was a lot of work and it's pretty rough but I tried (ps, lots of Leo and Supertramp throughout my channel) 12 STRING MASTERS: LEO KOTTKE: ruclips.net/video/kJcyI45otxU/видео.html
I never play 12 string guitar😢
Where are you?
Only guys that can work yhe 12 string properly are guys like Jimmy page and a very few
AI is interesting but, definitely not the real thing😂
For sure. What happens when different A.I. are on the same playing field all vying for one thing? At the root of it all are people...thank God. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I sincerely appreciate your time and comment. Make it a great day. Take care. Mark
Too much verb yo..
Lol imagine straight up stealing other people’s covers, not recording anything over them, not crediting the artist, and then passing it off as your own playing. If you can’t play hard days night, don’t include it in your list😂
I liked the video, but I am NOT impressed with AI! A computer should be able to sample far more songs than any individual. Millions more!
Yet, every song is one that you have played before! Not one obscure song from an unknown musician which outshines them all.
This is superficial, and as far as I am concerned, incomplete. Computers allow fast analysis of mountains of information. That is their value.
This attempt obviously did not go into any depth whatsoever. It wrote a riff. So what. Any musician could, even me.
It wrote your script. Well, not bad, I guess. Nothing out of the ordinary. I can write that well.
This is not criticism of you, Mark. I am glad you chose to do this experiment. The mediocre performance, at best, is the work of AI!
Don't want it! Don't need it! Pablum.
Completely Disagree....
What songs do you think are no brainers Jamie? Walk Right In, Wanted Dead or Alive, More than a Feeling, Ticket to Ride, Give a Little Bit and of course the big miss, Mr. Tambourine Man. If it wanted to give a somewhat more modern and well rounded list maybe Suicide Note Part II, I Stay Away. going deeper Who's Behind the Door.... what are your picks?
@@8MinuteAxe
Let me get back to you on this.
It’s a lot to consider and I don’t want to
really think about this.
@@8MinuteAxe
Ok... some thoughts.
1) #1 Song- 8 miles high.
2) I can’t decide between all of the rest. They’re all great.
I don’t think AI could give you my opinion. It needed to make a list. I don’t.
3) AI’s new 12 string song is a revamped version of Double Vision.. and plagiarism is alive and well even in AI
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The list is pretty good. Id have to have had More Than A Feeling on it. But its hard to choose only 10 songs.
Walk Right In, Wanted Dead or Alive, More than a Feeling, Ticket to Ride, Give a Little Bit and of course the big miss, Mr. Tambourine Man. Who's Behind the Door. Heartbreak Station by Cinderella :)
I gave myself a thumbs up for the last one. LOL.
@@8MinuteAxe That's a good list too. Turn Turn Turn is about as great of a 12 string song as there ever was.
It's important to realize that the AIs we're playing around with now are essentially extremely sophisticated "averaging systems". I suspect we're headed for some interesting times with songwriting, where solo songwriters will be using AIs in place of bouncing ideas off of bandmates.
I think that's well thought out and as good an assessment of the near term usefulness as any other. You may find this interesting. A couple of guys created an algorithm that sequenced every possible melodic combination and attempted to copyright. I didn't get into too much detail but I sure hope their goal was to program the algo and not to really try to corner the market. LOL. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I appreciate your time and comment. Take care. Mark
