    I am 80 years of age, and have been knitting the English way since I was 4 years old. So, trying to teach an old girl new tricks is a bit hard! But I am persevering learning the Norwegian way. I WILL get there!!

    Tusen takk for all informasjon om tensjoning, Arne! My life will still be the same, but it's great to be able to add this little bit of technique to my arsenal of tools! Thank you so much!

    Thank you! I've been waiting for this one, so that I could actually see the needle movement for Norwegian purling. You may have extended my knitting life by many more years with this purling method, because it also minimizes movement for me! So much appreciation for these refinements I've learned from you guys!

    I specifically searched your channel for this very technique! I have been having issues with tension as a new knitter. I discovered I am a continental style knitter. I have been holding my yarn as Arne does for knitting as that was most comfortable for me being a crocheter for over 30 years, the Norwegian Purl was a game changer for me! Thank you sooo much for for these amazing tutorials!

    Love that Arne is so relaxed about it all. He keeps it simple, and therefore, it is easier to understand. You have taught me to knit/purl this way, and finally, I love it. So many people who try to show the Norwegian Purl, use too many movements. It's so easy when Arne shows it because he keeps it simple/smooth, and close to the tip of the needles. We love you, Arne...

    This is an amazing effective short video. I'm an english thrower, learned to hold my yarn with the left hand for knitting in the round and color work, but the purl has always eluded me. Finally I get it! Just need some practice to get better tension control . Thank you so much for posting this!

  • @angelayarnivoregirl5009

    This is SO much fun! I hold my yarn in my left hand but had added this move where I would bend my sticking out pointer finger back and forth as my gauge always was very loose. Annoying. This makes so much more sense that the pointer finger is down and just naturally is there against the needle and your stitch is the size of the needle! No other thought needed. My stitches are nice and even already.

    Your videos have changed my knitting life! I really hated knitting. I picked up crochet about 13 years ago. I made lots of different things with crochet. Knitting was so difficult for me. Holding the yarn. Needles slipping. Throwing. Continental verses English. Ugh. I came across your videos a few weeks ago and I can now knit easily and my work comes out even and beautiful! You do things simply and one a way that makes perfect sense. Thank you. And I know you suggest starting with small projects first but my son has wanted a Godzilla inspired sweater for years that was very expensive and sold out quickly. He also is graduating from university next month. So guess what I am attempting? That's right and it's all thanks to you Arne and Carlos 💖.

    I tried the Norwegian purl today for the first time. I was a bit sceptical when I saw the videos because it looked so complicated. But if you do it yourself it isn't and I really like how smooth it is. I am a continental knitter and had no problem with "my" purl but I think I will stick to "your" way for a while.

    I have been meaning to watch this video again to learn Norwegian way, but now I have to as I am out of commission with sciatica due to back strain, thoracic disc bulging 😩T11 and T12, on meds and medrol dose pack- one cause is years of repetitive use of right hand causing disc and spine weakness on left side (opposing side)... so I thought I will learn to be an ambidextrous knitter!!! I naturally throw, but now with this video thanks to Arne’s demonstration with large knitting needles, I am using the piece I am working on (my own pattern for fingerless gloves, rib stitch)... after matching how you hold your yarn and allowing just enough tension with right hand to wrap the same stitch back around I was giggling with glee at how fun it was to loop it back and the purl stitch just popped off as easily as yours Arne! I am like how fun, it is a fun seamless move that keeps the stitch movement to right of needle just like the knit stitch - that is a much easier movement than the awkward throw where I have to continually move yarn to front of work. The Norwegian way is less effort and much more fun! Slower but I will get used to it and my back will stay in alignment with No Dominant right or left alignment keeping back strong and balanced. It has changed my life already! Thank you Arne and Carlos for saving my back! Lollllllllllll. You are the very best medicine, and I like everyone feel so at home while watching your videos! Lastly thanks Carlos for tip about not changing for pattern, use as a guide just change out your needle size, yup okay makes much sense:). Thank you both again! Sending love and hugs! Enjoy your weekend! P.S. got your notification a couple days ago for your live podcast, unfortunately I couldn’t join as my back pain is too strong now (nerve impingement if you have ever had it, no fun, and I am way too young and active to have this, but will get better soon!) 🌷🌷💜🤗💜🌷🌷

    I’m a newly revived knitter. Pandemics will do that! Though I always knitted continental, my purl was awkward, pinching the yarn between my forefinger and thumb. Thanks to your video, I’m happily using the Norwegian purl. However, after a month I’m still struggling to get enough tension in the purl. I’ve poured over every video I could find, but still need more guidance to get the purl tension tightened. Have you got a checklist of do’s & don’t’s to get that tension settled evenly?

  • @mamabearroars2
    @mamabearroars2 6 лет назад

    I knit continental and taught myself through videos. My tension is not always even though. I enjoyed learning the new purl stitch technique. My question is how with this type of technique would a person be able to purl in the back of the stitch? It seems impossible to my thinking? Can you give a demo on that technique. Maybe you have a smooth way to keep the tension with an unusual stitch. Thanks! Love your videos too.

    Hi Arne, Hi Carlos, thanks for your inspiring video again! Since a week or so I knit the Norwegian way and what a difference already with my 48 years of throwing results 😃. Only my left index finger hurts, I had to put band aids and tape around it to continue. Is this normal you think? Did you have that problem as well when you started? Your index finger Arne, looks quite normal to me. What can I do about it or do I just wait for it to disappear over time? Thanks. Love you two very much! Gr. Corrie, The Netherlands

    I have a great tension with throwing. and with norwegian knit. but the norwegian purl is a disaster. and a throwing purl is much faster too. So I already for years stick with this norwegian way of knitting and the throwing way of purling. Except for pieces in wich i have to switch a lot between knit and purl or other fancy stuff, then i stick with throwing.
    I wish i could get this norwegian purl in my fingers... keeping the tension there is really difficult. But at least it's much easier to just do the stitch then in the german way :p that I never got down.

    It would be an exaggeration to say the Norwegian purl is life changing, but I’ve begun to use it in stockinette , and it has completely evened out my rows. I saw this purl in someone else’s video. At the time I thought perhaps I should also stand on my head and wiggle my ears, it seemed that needlessly complex. After your video, I tried it and found it be quite easy and rhythmic. Thank you.
