OH MY GOSH!!! Im a frustrated continenal knitter that has worked really hard to get a quick easy flow to my knitting and OH MY GOSH - IN 1 MINUTE, this has changed my life!❤ THANK YOU ARNE & CARLOS!!
I practiced last night and this is so much easier than I’ve been doing for 50 years. What a service you are doing for the knitting community! I was so excited I purchased a set of the Prym needles as well. Thank you!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am 70 years old and taught myself how to knit in my early twenties. I struggled for years (in my teens) to learn how to knit the way it was taught in the books in the US where I live, and the way my grandmother showed me, but I just couldn't get it. Finally I decided just do it my own way. After watching your videos I realized I wasn't doing it the "wrong" way, I was doing it the "Old Norwegian Farmers" way. My projects always come out nice, but I am slow! I wanted to learn your Norwegian way so I could knit faster and be more comfortable with color work. I watched both Arne's and Carlos' tutorials and picked it up in no time! Love it. (My great grandfather was from Norway, maybe it's in the genes.LOL). I just started watching you last fall and am still catching up. You guys are awesome. Thank you
I adopted the "Norwegian Knit" and the "Norwegian Purl" by watching Arne. I am not a knitting wizard, I'm just a woman with some years of knitting "English" under her belt. I am self-taught by buying How-to books and patterns back in the '70s. You just have different ways of verbalizing what you are doing. All people really have to do is use the "pause" key liberally. You make a great tag-team on teaching. Thank you!
Oh my goodness, light bulb moment! Thank you both so much. I’ve been trying to learn continental knitting for a while, I could never ‘tension’ the yarn over my finger comfortably without having to re-tension constantly. Your way is perfect, absolutely fantastic tutorial. ‘Change your tools, not you!’ Thanks so much to both of you xx
I'm making a swatch and determined that it is time for me to switch to Norwegian style. So I remembered this video and found it and indeed, it's so simple and in spite of arthritis and tiny (to me) needles, my hands do not hurt and I'm getting the hang of it. "Pull the cord!" Will become my mantra for the swatch by which time I hope it's a habit. Thank you. I guess when one is ready - even motivated - to learn something, it comes easier but also, good teaching helps too.
We all learn differently so that is a good reason to have different teachers to teach us. Not one is better, just different so mahalo (thank you in Hawaiian)!
Carlos I don’t know why you were so worried about this video, it was brill. So informative and helpful. Thank you to you both. What a great team you both are xxxxx
I love knitting this way. As a crocheter who only knIt very little. Knitting this way works for me. I have learned the Norwegian purl too and it’s the only way I purl now. Thanks Carlos for taking it slow. Love your example just pull the cord. I will always remember that. So good to see you both. Be Blessed.
I learned something from both of you. I’m a crocheter so keeping the needle close is easy but I could never get a grasp on knitting. After years and years of trying I now finally am able to do this. Thank you so much.
I've been knitting English style for almost 20 years - it's how I learned and how I thought I was always destined to knit. But its slow and its started to hurt my hands and arms now I'm getting older. I tried continental and I could do it, but not well and I never really got the hang of it properly and then it just started to hurt my hands in a different way. And then I find this video, and I give Norwegian a go. And it just clicks. Its speaks to the muscle memory of the crocheter in me (I've always been better at crochet than knitting but this may well change now). My hands dont hurt, my arms aren't tense, I'm fast without trying to be. And the purl?!? Magical. Thank you so much Arne and Carlos. You've rekindled my love for the craft.
I just had that "aha moment" watching this. I just replicated this and it feels so natural as a crocheter that LOVES the look of knitting!! Thank you gentlemen!!!
Love your easy instructions. Still practicing your style. I'm old 65 and it's hard to teach and old dog new tricks. I'm going to get this if it takes me another decade. 😆 love you guys. TY Dawn
Thank you for teaching me Norwegian knitting! I am a convert!! I was knitting a Bolero and the row of purling was too painful. I was an English knitter. It took me a minute to catch on and realize that this was my new way of knitting, but now, there is no going back. Thank you!!
Guys I love Norwegian knitting! I was a Continental knitter and when you spoke about it some tieme ago I tried it and its marvelous! Hugs from Madrid! Stay safe 😙
Hurray! I just realized that I have been Knitting Norwegian style all my life. My neighbor taught me Continental style when I was a little girl. I also loved your teacup, Carlos. I designed one block to represent my Danish heritage.
Loved the « pull the cord » bit. Made me giggle.... I used to knit British but because of arthritis in my thumbs, I played around to see how I could knit without putting tension on my left thumb.... Now I know I knit Norwegian! And yes, this is so comfortable and I can go back to knitting for long periods. Thank you Carlos! I love that you both have different styles in explaining the same thing. Always in admiration of the skills! 🌿
Thanks guys. After 45 years of being a knitter who threw his yarn because that was grandma's way ( she's the one who taught me) I have decided to watch you guys and copy what you do. I can say after a year of knitting your way I knit faster and have a better tension. I don't think I can go back to grandma's way. Purling took a little longer to master but I did. Love it. I'm glad I learned how to twist cables without an extra needle. Big time saver.
Oh my gosh- don’t judge you too harshly?! Are you kidding me? Carlos, we already love you! You and Arne are deeply beloved around the world. You are such a brilliant and masterful team and I admire the way you work together, both personally and professionally. You each have so much to offer and contribute and we all look forward to your episodes each week! My gosh, we plan our days, our lives, around it, LOL! Personally speaking, I have learned so much from each of you; things that far transcend the knitting world. I admire your kind and loving ways, how you treat each other with dignity and respect, you care about our planet and value even the smallest things, but things that matter. I just love and appreciate your ways of ‘being’ in the world, your skills and your breadth of knowledge, your generosity, warmth and hospitality, your values and ethics and well-roundedness...honestly, I could go on. I have been your fan for many years when I stumbled on you quite accidentally on RUclips one day and I have remained drawn in ever since. It was one of life‘s greatest highlights to meet you both in Ashcroft, British Columbia 🇨🇦 last fall. Now, I’m so excited to re-watch your video and practice this new way of knitting! Many, many thanks and much love! 🇨🇦 ♥️🇳🇴 🧶
I am so relieved that I am not the only one that knits this way. I am not Norwegian, I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and this is the way I’ve been knitting since my mother taught me at age 15. I’ve been living in Canada for many years now and I always felt a little bit weird because people here knit the English way (I think that’s how it’s called). I could never explain why my way of knitting was different than everyone else, and also I don’t really know the history of how it came to be that this is the way my mother used to knit. I now have learned that the way I knit it’s called “Combination Continental”. I do the purl stitch different than the Norwegian way, but still hold the yarn the same way. Very interesting! Thank you Arne and Carlos.
Wow I have been doing this all along!!! I am self taught from books in the time before RUclips. My Nordic ancestry must have snuck out. Thank you for your videos
I’m completely sold on Norwegian knit and purl!! I have been throwing my yarn since 1954-and now, so late in life I learn this method and many many thanks to you both! 🥰
Thank you Carlos for showing a Norwegian Knitting novice a simple way to start. I'm an experienced UK knitter and although I love to watch Arne knit, it's much too fast for me to be brave enough to try. My afternoon will now be attempting to try and not be too frustrated because I am much slower than normal. As you both say, just enjoy it. xxx
I love Norwegian knitting and purling. I have shoulder issues and the ergonomic method means I can knit as long as I want as often as I want and my shoulder never freezes. Learned from watching your videos, of course. Still great to have a recap. Many thanks x
I am currently working on a very boring project, but it is the perfect opportunity to practice the Norwegian knitting technique! Thank you so much! I am getting better tension with my knitting, being able to get a better rhythm, and my hands aren’t hurting so much! I love this method!
Hello lovely Arne and Carlos I loved this episode of your vlog. I am so glad you chose a pre-recorded episode, I am concerned you are going overtire yourself. You really helped me understand the Norwegian method of sewing. It certainly looks very comfortable and easy to do once you have persevered with this method. Anything new is always trial and error and just keeping going. I taught myself to knit when I was 9 and it is nit traditional in any way, but I have always wanted to knit ‘properly’ so this is my chance to perfect it. Thank you both for keeping us all going, you are absolute stars to me. Look after yourselves, you are both my favourite people. Big hugs and loves always xxxxxxxxx Dorothy U.K. ❤️❤️🙋🏻😘😘🌟🌟
I loved this..now to try it with the needles. I think I'll make a couple of plain hats...and when I need to I'll pull yhe cord. That was brilliant. We'll never forget now. And Arne you were great as an interviewer and encourager.
So your plan is to knit a simple stockinette hat in the round on circular needles? To get started, do you think it would be OK to work the ribbed brim of the hat in my usual way (throw/English style) and then begin the Norwegian style when I get to the stockinette body of the hat, where I'd be knitting every round? This would certainly give lots of practice with Norwegian knitting, yet you'd be knitting something useful, not just a big swatch. Thanks.
I am excited to try Norwegian knitting! It looks so relaxing. I am an American thower, so I think Norwegian knitting will be great to learn. Thank you Carlos for the clearly explained video
I have been struggling to find a way to hold my knitting and not be in excruciating pain after 5 minutes, and this is it! Thank you so much. Carlos, you are very good at explaining and showing what to do. I am forever grateful to you both for posting this video!
Great tips. This has been very difficult to do but I think after watching Carlos I might do better. Thank you for switching and revisiting this tutorial.
THANK YOU! Thank you for these brilliant videos - Norwegian knit & purl. I think this has changed my life as my English throwing was causing me some pain. Thank you both so very much xx
What I enjoyed about learning from you when you visited St. Thomas, Ontario was that you both taught in your own way and offered tips - which means we benefited from both of your teaching styles. thanks so much for posting this video as a great review of what we learned in your class!
Very nice instructional video. I’ve done this before, but didn’t know it was Norwegian style knitting. It’s very comfortable. Looking forward to the purling episode.
Recently, I have watched some RUclips Videos to try and learn Continental Knitting but somehow devised my own way of knitting. Little did I know that my "devised" method of knitting which I'm most comfortable with is the Norwegian Style! This is so cool!!
Carlos, lol. In case of an emergency, pull the cord. I love that. Thanks for sharing. When you filmed the purling can not see not close enough. You 2 are wonderful hello from USA Ohio
Good job Carlos.... yes I learned just watching Arne's hands and listening to your mantra "don't change yourself, change the tool". It was eye opening.
Pandemic hobby #7 for me is KNITTING! Thank you for showing me how to comfortably knit and purl in the Norwegian method. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching and replaying and replaying and replaying and replaying your videos again and again. Stay safe and keep knitting & sharing your passions!
I'm a crocheter for 48 yrs and have always wanted to knit, however just couldn't get it. Then I came across your channel and I'm practicing my knitting and I'm finding the Norwegian way so much easier then what we're taught here in America. My goal is to knit a hat by Fall!
Wow!! I this way,.. It looks easy., and I'm a beginner., on knitting... I'm going to try this.... Happy Knitting...😁😊 I think Carlos did and outstanding job... Who cares what others think.... I like it ., it's different and it's relaxing ... Thumbs Up.... 😁👍
Fabulous informative video and I can’t wait to try it out, as I’ve always been a thrower. I’ve not seen Arne knitting or teaching so have no comparison, but you did very well Carlos 👏. Looking forward to the purl video.
Beautiful presentation; I can't wait to try it. I have taught myself 3 methods but yet to learn the Norwegian way! I am excited to try because I suffer from tendinitis from my pastry chef days so this will be great! I have been working on a shawl with a lot of knit stitches so I think I will start practicing now. You two are such a breath of fresh air; kudos to you for making so many people happy and better knitters. Keep getting rest and taking care of each other. Have a great week!
I believe I’m a convert after this came to my attention today. I’ve been knitting on a basket weave pattern so it became very convenient & time saving to practice the Norwegian Purl. Thank you!!
Your tutorial was easy to follow, thank you! I loved the analogy of the emergency cord. I am constantly using it and I hope it will become natural to me as I continue to master Norwegian knit. Purl will follow soon! 🥴
Carlos, I have saved this video (and your other ones) and some day I am going to learn to knit. Thank you so very much, both of you, for sharing your gifts!❤
Great job Carlos. I've been trying very hard to keep my finger down and you did a great job of explaining it. I will now always remember "pull the cord". Can't wait for the purl video as I definitely have trouble with the finger when I purl. Thanks again and I love you guys.
Thus was a fabulous explanation. Watched other RUclips videos but yours is the one that explained how to hold the knitting and why. As a crocheter I stick out my finger but now I know this is not the right way for Norwegian knitting 😃
Nice video showing how to hold needles and yarn over left index finger. I never get how to scoop yarn from left index finger by right needle. Big thanks Carol and Arne!
Well done, Carlos. It was clear and concise. I enjoy learning from both of you because there are certain things that stand out with each technique. I really need to practice more with Norwegian knitting. I am a flicker and my hands get sore when I try to knit for a long time. Thank you both for teaching your skills, and for making me smile.
I am glad to learn this. So many of my knitting friends knit with index finger up in the air. I thought this might be a better technique. Also learned to tension with yarn wrapped around my little finger. The Norwegian way works much better for me, but I need to create new muscle memories. I am finding my tension to be much better without wrapping it! It makes so much more sense! Thank you! And, by the way, I have learned from the tutorials each of you have taught! Thank you!
Thank you for showing knitting Norwegian- they were easy to learn and I can see how it can goes fast- helpful from Carlo and Arne to start beginning knitting!!yay!
I just tried your way of holding the yarn and out loosened up my grip so well, I found the stitch more uniform and slightly looser which I like. Thank guys, have a nice weekend.
I learned English style and tried to learn continental for ages to speed up and to stop my hand from cramping, but I couldn’t get it. This, however, is GENIUS. It’s so much easier to catch the yarn when it’s resting against your index finger as opposed to flying in the air continental style. Can’t wait to keep practising this!
I really enjoy you guys. I paid attention and come to find out - this is the way I naturally knit. Right now I’m working on a garter stitch blanket, but next time I need to purl I’ll watch the Norwegian purling video. I bring the yarn to the front, so I know I will be learning a new technique. Thanks for all you do!!!
I love watching both of u knit. Arne has a rhythm that is quite beautiful to watch and Carlos has an ease that feels relaxing. Everyone has a slight difference and it's good to see that. Thank you for sharing with us.
Perfekt Carlos!!! Kunde inte ha varit mer metodiskt och så bra att poängtera ergonomi och stickornas betydelse. Tummen upp!!! Arne, bästa "brevidsittaren"!
I can’t compare Arne to Carlos’ way of teaching Norwegian style because this was my 1st try & it was very easy! I do have to “pull the cord” occasionally and hoping this helps my arthritis! I’m going to practice the knit stitch until next Sunday when you show the Purl stitch. Thanks, once again Arne & Carlos! 💕 💕
After helping high school students for many years, one important thing I've learned is that there are many ways to learn. It is SO good to have different people teach the same concept because they bring a new perspective. Thank you both for your guidance in learning to knit Norwegian style. Since I've started watching your videos I've been forcing myself to practice this way of knitting. Especially the Norwegian purling. I never thought I'd get it, but through patience and persistence I am starting to get comfortable with it! You are both wonderful teachers! I am truly grateful to you!
I’ve started a small project and I’m determined to keep my finger down! Looking forward to the Norwegian purl video. Thanks for all your instructional videos - much appreciated.
Hi Arne&Carlos, Very well illustrated Carlos😀 You both are very good knitters:) Hope you are feeling better Carlos❤️ Thank you for sharing Look forward to seeing you tomorrow KimXX
Thank you Carlos and Arne! I wanted to learn this technique and watched a few other videos first because I feared an A&C video might be too pro for a super beginner knitter like me. I crochet and am left handed, but knitting never clicked for me before. The other videos weren't all that clear and felt awkward. I am so glad I tried yours. Easy to understand and straightforward! You both have lovely teaching styles and explained the why and how of it all so well. You two are a joy. Thank you.
Love watching you guys interact with each other and your viewers. Watching this video I realize I point to the stars, so will pay more attention. Thanks again for a great video.
Totally enjoyed your demonstration, I recently learned the knitting from your previous video, but the purl method was a challenge. So yes, I’m looking forward to watching Carlos’s version of the purl. Thanks for sharing your talents 👍❤️😊
I'm relatively new to knitting and I was about to give up because after hours and hours of practice my knitting was still awkward and slow, and I was constantly struggling with split strands, ladders, tension issues, and uneven stitches. Then I tried your method of knitting , which at first was difficult for me to understand how to hold the yarn and place my fingers but finally I got the feel for it and it changed the quality, speed and rhythm of my knitting immediately and made it fun and relaxing. Now I feel confident enough to actually try to make something nice. Thank you so much!
"...point at people! that's not nice..." Arne, I love your sense of humour!
😂

Learned to knit entirely from Arne’s video. It worked for me. Best line: “dis is da dancing”. :)

Thank you both. Love they way you work together. 💕
Recently, I have watched some RUclips Videos to try and learn Continental Knitting but somehow devised my own way of knitting. Little did I know that my "devised" method of knitting which I'm most comfortable with is the Norwegian Style! This is so cool!!
Carlos you did an excellent job teaching. I am going to practice Norwegian knitting!
You are an excellent instructor Carlos! Thank you for your demonstration.
This was the best - and cutest/funniest tutorial. Gotta try this method.
💓 thank goodness for the emergency cord. A perfect demonstration!! Lovely to see you both.
You two are terrific! Thank you!!!
Wow, well done Georgia, have fun on your knitting journey
@@ARNECARLOS Thank you so much guys have a fantastic week!
Wow!! I this way,.. It looks easy., and I'm a beginner., on knitting... I'm going to try this.... Happy Knitting...😁😊 I think Carlos did and outstanding job... Who cares what others think.... I like it ., it's different and it's relaxing ... Thumbs Up.... 😁👍
Fantastic. Well done. You made it look so easy. I’m 77 and have been a thrower. I will change now. Wahoo. ❤️
I believe I’m a convert after this came to
my attention today. I’ve been knitting on a basket weave pattern so it became very convenient & time saving to practice the Norwegian Purl. Thank you!!
You are welcome!
Your tutorial was easy to follow, thank you! I loved the analogy of the emergency cord. I am constantly using it and I hope it will become natural to me as I continue to master Norwegian knit. Purl will follow soon! 🥴
Have fun on your knitting journey!
Arne u were an excellent interviewer - and thank you Carlos for being a great teacher
Carlos, I have saved this video (and your other ones) and some day I am going to learn to knit. Thank you so very much, both of you, for sharing your gifts!❤
❤️
Great job, Carlos! I have loved watching both of you teach...you each bring something unique to the learning for me.
Thank you!
Great job Carlos. I've been trying very hard to keep my finger down and you did a great job of explaining it. I will now always remember "pull the cord". Can't wait for the purl video as I definitely have trouble with the finger when I purl. Thanks again and I love you guys.
Wonderful demonstration! I loved the pull the emergency string! because, yes my finger wants to rise when tension loosens.
Wow..I really got it this time..I enjoyed Arne’s teaching but watching and listening to Carlos I felt it click..I got it..you make a great team..
I am watching Arne knit along, listening to Carlos and it is a fascinating thing to watch.
I have been wanting to start knitting this way. Now I need to practice. I love your analogy about pulling the cord in an emergency. Very smart!!
Have fun!
It’s good to have and both of your ways, helps more types of learners... so nice of you both 💕
Yes, we all learn differently.
Thank you!
You are welcome!
This is the best instruction video and more comfortable then any knitting I have done!
Glad you liked Aniko!
You are welcome, thank you for you for watching!
Y’all are couple goals tbh. Also, my knitting is going by so much faster now with this method:D
Thank you for this. I’m 34 and have arthritis in my hands because I’ve been knitting since I was 5. This will allow me to continue with what I love x
Some say Norwegian knitting can be easier on the hands.
Love sent to you both and your dog love your video fab.
I love watching both of u knit. Arne has a rhythm that is quite beautiful to watch and Carlos has an ease that feels relaxing. Everyone has a slight difference and it's good to see that. Thank you for sharing with us.
Hi guys,
Carlos you are looking so much better, Arne you too. Love watching you both.
Perfekt Carlos!!!
Kunde inte ha varit mer metodiskt och så bra att poängtera ergonomi och stickornas betydelse. Tummen upp!!! Arne, bästa "brevidsittaren"!
You two are so lovely and charming, I adore your videos! Thank you so much for sharing these techniques, I can’t wait to give it a try!
Thank you!
Thank you. I’m learning❤️
I’ve started a small project and I’m determined to keep my finger down! Looking forward to the Norwegian purl video. Thanks for all your instructional videos - much appreciated.
You are welcome.
Oh thank you so much. This was very helpful and Arne, you were a great journalist
You are welcome!
How did I miss this one before? It's really good, Carlos you helped me a lot
Good to hear!
Hi Arne&Carlos,
Very well illustrated Carlos😀
You both are very good knitters:)
Hope you are feeling better Carlos❤️
Thank you for sharing
Look forward to seeing you tomorrow

Thank you Carlos and Arne! I wanted to learn this technique and watched a few other videos first because I feared an A&C video might be too pro for a super beginner knitter like me. I crochet and am left handed, but knitting never clicked for me before. The other videos weren't all that clear and felt awkward. I am so glad I tried yours. Easy to understand and straightforward! You both have lovely teaching styles and explained the why and how of it all so well. You two are a joy. Thank you.
We are so glad to hear that!
Thank you ...lovely tutorial...both of you are marvelous instructors❣️❣️❣️
Thank you!
Hi Donna, how great to hear that you are having fun! Well done teaching yourself knitting!
Bravo Carlos!!!!!! Super super clear, excellent!
