I watch you all the time. Love every moment of it. My father's uncle was a year younger than him both were Norwegian and his uncle was an American Commando dropped behind the lines in Norway during WWII. After the war he sent for his "War Bride". Lovely and romantic don't you think. I have 2 sweaters from Norway. One commercially made and the other from my grand-,aunt Lottie, she was my grandmother's sister, she knitted one of the sweaters. Lo and behold both fit me still at 81. Love to hear stories about Norway and knitting.
I love this series about the Norwegian history. Thank you so much! My Norwegian g-grandmother was from Selbu, Norway. I was able to visit your beautiful country and see all the amazing knitting traditions around Selbu. It motivated me to learn how to knit in the Old ways (Norwegian); so I have been watching all of your videos to help me. Very grateful. You guys are amazing!!!
I'm so excited I found this channel! I'm from the US, Minnesota specifically and can trace my lineage to around Hallingdal. I've always wanted to learn about Norwegian knitting and how to work with colors to make patterns. I've been knitting off and on for about 5 years and am finally feeling proficient enough in pattern work to take on the next level. I love history especially when I can connect it to my ancestry!
Thank you for connecting the patterns with time and place. The story of Norway's present king escaping the Nazis as a child was chilling. Norway's knitting traditions are so interesting. Love all your vintage patterns and books. Thanks for sharing such important information.
Thank you for sharing the history of Norway. Some if us will never be able to go there so this is amazing to see photos and videos of the picturesque Norway scenery. Love grandma's knitting pattern book. That era had such style.
I really really enjoyed this episode. I'm not a knitter. im a crocheter but it was so wonderful hearing the history of the patterns and watching Arne knit. The whole video was wonderful from the outside location, the sound of the rain, Arne stitching to the history. Just beautiful.
I really enjoyed this episode especially the part about the history of the iconic Norwegian sweater. In my opinion, there is no right or wrong way to knit. Important thing is to enjoy it and knit what makes you comfortable. That being said, I appreciate learning other techniques because you never know how it might improve you.
I am loving catching up on all your wonderful episodes. I found you only recently. I too love the sound of rain and clicking needles. It makes me feel safe....remembering hearing my mother knit at night while I fell asleep. Thank for prompting such a sweet memory of my mother.
Hello my lovely Friends it is so good to see you both again. I really enjoyed your vlog tonight, you always bring interesting and fascinating information to us all. How wonderful to see your Grandmother’s notes on that beautiful pattern Arne, it is so good that you are carrying on the family traditions. I really loved the story of little Prince Harald, what a delightful photo of him, it would be fabulous to see it in colour. I hope King Harald is watching your vlog tonight Arne and Carlos. Thank you for all your hard work, you really light up my Sunday evenings. It has been quite cold here today in the U.K. Sending you both all my love as always. Big hugs and loves xxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻😘😘❤️❤️🌟🌟
seeing this one for the first time - fascinating, thank you; the music at the beginning was also a nice addition; that disarmingly simple pattern is equally elegant 💫
Love the info and old patterns! Thank you for the additional ideas to use to colorwork and the effect of double layering for warmth! love the examples of the book pages and how you provided the pattern images.
Can we have more history along with the patterns please. Good evening to you both. I found today's episode very interesting . It made a great conversational piece. That's why we all tune in. Thank you for today. I hope your both well and looking after yourselves and Freja. Stay warm till next Sunday and have a good week. Kram x
Thank you so much for sharing a bit of your history and culture with us. I would love to learn more about Norway, especially the history of knitting there. And I enjoyed Arne demonstrating the beautiful pattern.
I knit this as a mitten pattern often. Am pleased to hear some of the history. In a book by Robin Hansen (USA) it's called Candlelit Windows. I knit rather inefficiently (English method) and throw both colors, always keeping the main color "ahead". I'm not about speed when I knit. However, occasionally, when it just all of a sudden feels natural I do switch one of them over to my left hand. I can't explain why or when I do this. No one should get upset about how you knit, Carlos. I suppose maybe they do it because you're teaching us. But I don't care. It's good to see or hear about how everyone does things. It's all interesting. Thanks for all the resources. ❤
ARNE & CARLOS when you were in Edmonton you told me you watch the Alt for Norge show. I started watching it and love it. I would love to visit Norway and meet my relatives there and see where my Grandparents grew up. I really enjoy all the history!
Thank you. I love learning about the history behind various patterns and the history of knitting itself. I have started accumulating books that share the histories of Fair Isle, the social aspects of knitting for woman and recently have begun the learning about color work in Norway.. It is all so interesting. Who would have thought that sheep, wool, yarn and sticks would have so many social and cultural implications.
I have been so busy that I just now had the opportunity to sit down and really enjoy the video. Please do more like these. It's really wonderful to know where some of the older designs originated. Thank you guys for sharing your knowledge
Super la nueva serie de videos! Gracias por compartir, muy interesante conocer la historia de los diferentes modelos, como así también los libros que se pueden consultar.
I love the story of Prince Harald's sweater. Perhaps one day you might design one if you feel inspired to do so! 🟥 Thank you for sharing your history with us!
I have the Latvian book in English. I bought it from Amazon. I am in the hospital with pneumonia, but seeing you both, hearing your explanations, and the beautiful fabrics and patterns make me happy! Your design book is so great! It’s a fabulous idea. I love the new sock and I have to make them for my grandsons. Thank you for being you!
I see a pattern of a Quilter's Block... the Nine Patch... in that pattern! Just beautiful!!!! And I loved hearing the history of this Norwegian pattern.... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Give us more!
I LOVE learning about Norwegian history, and indeed about all your worldly experiences. There are so many places I will never see, and I appreciate your bringing them to me in such a charming fashion.Thank you!
Dear Friends, I find your videos - first of all - inspiring and beautiful. I especially love your videos from your greenhouse since I'm a gardener. Your colorwork is lovely and incredible to me since I've not conquered the skill yet. And I love the teacherly vibe where you mix history with demonstration of patterns. There is so much to know and appreciate in the art of needlework! Much love and thank you!
Loved your podcast and I must add I found myself thinking about World War 11 and plight of Norway during that period. This train of thought lead me to a couple of books I want to read with the result that I will fall behind in my knitting yet again. Looking forward to your next podcast.
What a perfect episode. I enjoy the location in the greenhouse, and the rain was perfect. Good timing !!! The history was also very pleasant to hear, as it gives so much depth to the pattern. I would love more history behind the Norwegian patterns you use. Thank you.
I love seeing vintage patterns and learning about them just like your "Prince Harold" . Very cool to know the history and even see you show references to them. I would love to see this pattern in red and white. Your blue and gray is nice though too. All the combinations that one can do makes me think more on how lovely they would look like a royal purple and white. Thank you for sharing.
Happy birthday, Kim! May your day be filled with love, laughter, and knitting! It's lovely to meet people who enjoy knitting and the history behind it as much as I do. May you never run out of yarn and patterns!
Please more more more of Norways culture and stories behind and about your traditional patterns. I've just knit my 1st vanilla socks with a fishy heel so a few more pairs for my very grateful children and father who is 91 and has Finnish heritage then I will have a go at ur colorwork pattern socks cant wait. Love u boys regards from Ireland xox

Love these types of videos, learning about the history of pattern knits will be fascinating.. Arne, you make me smile! You are a practical knitter, and I admire your style!
