Sorry to hear about your experience.. My girlfriend (white french) and I (korean american) traveled to india/pakistan last year. We did everything ourselves with no tour and only ate and hang around local places. Surprisingly we weren't harassed much. I think you are right. If you are a white female solo traveling, you will probably get harassed more. We did get approached everyday but they leave us after we tell them to f*ck off. We don't really blame the individual people harassing us but the shit system and education these people grew up with. Because to be honest we went to wealthy areas in new delhi and it was the exact opposite. people were very kind and no one was bothering you. No one staring, no one trying to sell you stuff. It just tells you the significant discrepancies in a population. I just hope things improve in india so that future tourists don't deal with such pain.
I also heavily blame your tour guides. I can't believe they took you too areas where you would get harassed more. That is a terrible red flag...
Next time, check out northern india like srinagar and ladakh! It is very beautiful and people are kind. And pakistan! We loved it there so much. Although parts of lahore and karachi you might face similar issue.
Thank you for sharing your experience and being honest! I think more people need to share their experience so they are prepared before going.

That door alarm is exactly what I need moving forward! Thanks so much Jaime. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the support ♥️ I think for the person asking it’s just one photo and for me it’s 40-50 photos a day. One of the guides commented about how many times I was asked, he was quite surprised. The thing is, when I used to say yes, men would want to touch me as well and I didn’t want that. They would post the photos and say I was their girlfriend or that we had slept together. Then, I discovered what was happening with some of these photos. They have been turned into deep fake p0rn0graphy. It’s disgusting. I know it’s not me but anyone who knows me or knows my family could see it and think it’s real. I often worry someone would show my parents. This thing of me exists and there is nothing I can do about it. The reality is, I cannot trust men to take a photo with them 😔 not even one.

Without any proof, without a small video clip, without any police complaint, this woman told some horrible things about India and people started believing them. Yes, I agree that women are not so safe in India but I don't think that such bad things happen to foreigners at tourist sites like goa, jaipur and udaipur. If it were so, then millions of tourists would not come to India from western countries.
And despite such a horrible thing happening, this woman, her tourist guide, her tourist company did not even file a complaint with the police. This seems very strange. I agree that she is a good woman but it is very difficult to believe her these horrible words about india.

my first trip i also went on a tour , but this tour was with many people , even though that was with many people , the scams are still very rife .
fast forward to traveling alone for the next 10 times , photos etc yes , but im not backward in coming forward , i find that the pack mentality was usually from north India .
Unfortunately in Goa , there are so many domestic tourists , the local Goan men would not do this , this behavior would be Domestic Indian tourists , who tend to travel in packs .
again im really impressed with this discussion as it needs to be addressed .
i hope that you have taken time to decompress form this trip .
we need to see the world for what it really is , and discussions need to be had and explored
    Kind regards
    Greta

Phoebe I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience in India. Glad at the end you are ok. The most important. If you’re thinking of travelling to Asia again, you can consider visiting China. Rich in culture/ history as well as friendly/nice people. It’s very safe too as a solo traveler no matter if it’s day or night. Anyway, have a good rest back home and you take care. Wow I watched your video because I got a couple comments on mine saying you had a bad experience and asking if mine was similar. While guys in India, and traveling in India in general, can be intense, it sounds like you had really bad luck! I solo traveled all over India for 3 months (booked my own trains, buses, hotels/hostels) and I didn't really have any issues. I also met lots of other girls who solo traveled India and loved it! Also whenever I had guys be annoying, other random guys on the street would get them to leave me alone.
So yes - India is intense, but not every solo female traveler has a bad experience there. I'll definitely return to India again (even solo) to explore more places. And hopefully if you go back you'll have a better experience! ❤

My heart raced when you said you have to make a run for it when the pack surrounded you ( which is when the groping starts). For anyone who wanted to visit India, please please do barricade you door at night. My friend visited India after college with 2 other guys. Her door was broken into by two men and she was terrified. She cried and screamed, luckily her friends heard it and chased those two away. We suspected the hotel is fully aware and even in collusion because those two men were clearly using a key and the hotel responded and said it's just a misunderstanding.

While going to the hospital and while reporting it there were men taking selfies with her. I'm very sorry this happened to you, very disgusted, and, thank you for sharing for other women to see they are not alone. Thanks for sharing this Phoebe, so glad you are okay. I am British - half Indian, half English. I refuse to travel to India. The harassment I've gotten in the UK from Indian men alone since I was a literal child is enough to put me off. Sure, I sound dramatic and self obsessed but my experience of it has been no joke and I can't bear to romanticise a country that generally has such poor respect for women's safety. My grandparents had homes in Mumbai and Goa and they'd spend half the year out there, the only way you could tempt me to visit my heritage is if I were with an army of male family members!
I was away in a completely different destination recently when some men harassed me for photos whilst I was watching the sunset. Ruined an otherwise totally perfect moment. The touching, and the way NO is not enough is just unbearable and my skin crawls for you.

As an Indian, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. As someone who comes from the Himalayan part of India, which is much more civilized and peaceful than any part of mainland India, I find it extremely suffocating to travel to places like Delhi. Not only are the people extremely dishonest, but the place is equally disgusting and filthy. You can't trust anyone here. Even the people you've paid will be dishonest and always want more money. A woman from the US was scammed in Jaipur for fake jewelry, and when she came back, they refused to even recognize her. The same filth is being imposed on the good parts of India, like mine. At least you have the option to leave, but unfortunately, I'm not so lucky. Most foreign RUclipsrs who come to India try to paint a very false and rosy picture of this hellhole just for views and subscribers, misleading people in many ways. Don't focus on negative comments. The truth can't be hidden in this age of social media, so make sure that your message is received by the public the way you intend.

But I sincerely request you to please upload a separate video with all the prepetrators of your bad experience in India. Including the tour group, videos or pictures of people who have harrassed you. I know, you may sometimes recieve cyber bullying for this from the ignorent Indians, but educated ones who understands the gravity of the situation will support you. Indian government itself is trying to improve their external brand and hence I m sure will take action on this. Please do tag the police departments of the respective states. Finally, i sincerely hope this wouldn't be the last impression of you about India. I remember your lovely memories of Kerala, even though you were with a group. Please do give a second chance, this time visiting Kerala again, Hampi, Bangalore, the northeast India etc. Please do your due diligence and stay with the best rated hosts in Airbnb and travel with local guides (Like Anand or Singh) and avoid the big tour agencies. Hopping for a better and safer travel next time. Good luck. Take care.

It may be safe there, but based on the overall safety assessment data of India, can you really guarantee 100% safety? Know that if she encounters danger again, she may not be so lucky to get away again.

Is India safe for solo travel ? In most cases answer is no until or unless you are experienced enough with India. This is irrespective of gender . Having said that your experience is scary and no amount apology is enough, but couple of advice , don’t freak out and hit them back . 9 out of 10 will not come close to you after that . For remaining 1 or 10% , trust the Indian authorities. If a foreign tourist especially girl/woman complaints it’s a direct route to jail for harassers . Always keep direct lines like from Indian phone like 112 , 100 and every state tourism website for help numbers . Hope anyone reading this finds it helpful .

It's really sad. As an Indian I would like to tell you all Indians are not like that.
The best way to visit India is to do some research work by yourself. Do not be dependent on anyone. You will get plenty of material on where to visit what to eat, and where to eat.what you want to buy and where you can get the best deal.Everything is available on the internet. For travelling you have a help desk in every metropolitan city. Use metro Or else you can have services of uber Or ola. These travel guides are not a recognised one. They are just there to make money or commission. So please avoid these people. In general 99%of Indians are kind hearted and always ready to help. We are full of hospitality but few people have the mentality that if a foreigner is coming here he or she must be very wealthy and rich and try to take out extra money from their pocket so that they can keep their family and friends happy.

As an Indian and a regular viewer of this channel, it's heartbreaking to hear, I am aware of the selfie menace that many foreign tourists face, it probably comes from the ingrained sense of white skin supremacy, what the colonisers left us with but things happening to the extent that you narrated, it's absolutely shocking and unacceptable, did you intimate your embassy in India and reached out to the tourist helpline? Also share your Tour Operator's details with the respective authorities or make it public, what you narrated is horrifying and it needs to be dealt appropriately.
Also if any other potential tourist is reading this, please don't travel this way, it's the most disastrous way to explore India possibly!
