I did a western europe tour in 2016, basically only using couch surfing. I traveled with a big group of people, mostly girls, and 3 dudes in total. fwiw we are all hong kongers. We all look for our own couch surfing hosts. All the girls can get "normal" host with not too much trouble. Me and the other two dudes struggle every step of the way to look for legit host. Only gay / nudist dudes would even message us back let alone accept to host us. We mostly ended up having to ask the girls to ask their host nicely to host us as well. It was a very tiring experience. Now with paying being mandatory to use to the app, I would not recommend couch surfing either lol
I'm not Pakistani or Indian but from what I gather, your hosts' aggressive hospitality stems from the underlying assumption that, as their guest staying at their house and having everything paid for you, you're obligated in turn to do everything they have planned for you. Sucks that that's how it is and they couldn't understand your point of view, but now you know to avoid a similar situation in the future should you ever return. Anyway, thanks for the great India video. Just stumbled upon your account and enjoy the content. I was already decided that I never want to go to India - but your video underscored that conviction! I live in Japan so I appreciate your Japan content too. Shame I just discovered your channel now. Would've been cool to visit the ramen shop you were working at in Ome. But oh well. Enjoy your travels and all the best in 2024! Edit: I would add that your discomfort on being waited on by servants is a distinctly (white) American experience. We're raised to believe that everyone is equal more or less; that you should be self-sufficient and independent, and people that do work for you are no lesser than you in spite of their service to you. That is simply not the reality for the majority of the world. I don't think "white privilege" has that much to do with anything. Don't feel bad about it.
See, what this man says is true for most parts, but the thing is, it's only accurate for cities like Delhi, Kolkata, and some other big cities. But here's the thing: India was never just about these big cities. Has this man traveled to the north-east, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Tamil Nadu? No. Yet, here he is categorizing the whole of India based on what he saw in Delhi (a place where even Indians don't always want to visit). Well, not a problem from my side. We're already accustomed to these kinds of misguided portrayals of India by Western media, so welcome to that queue. At least we don't try to conceal our problems like most of the world does. Also, on the dust issue, if someone is interested, I'd recommend they search the term 'denudation' and understand how this phenomenon is supported by the Indian climate. And again, I'm not trying to prove that it's entirely a natural phenomenon, but shedding light on one of the biggest reasons for dust in Indian urban cities, which this good man clearly forgot to mention.

The point about white privilege - see videos about people from Korea or Kazakhstan coming to Pakistan. They are treated the same. Arabs and Mexicans may not be, because they will be mitaken for Pashtun or at least dont look unique enough to be considered tourists by everyone.
Jealous????not only jealous but also with small mind??Arab and Mexican don't speak Urdu or Pasthu. 2nd thing, our religion impact how we treat our guest ...even we will treat you Hindu well in Pakistan when you guest and we give good cup of tea.....
As a Pakistani. Being controlling of a guest, KNOCKING and asking him to meet someone while theyre takin a shower, showing him off to their friends and masking it as Hospitality isnt the hospitality of the Pakistani people. Thats straight up Rude. You potentially met the wrong crowd my guy. Next time you visit (if you do) maybe go solo. The people you came across are super wealthy, and even i am curious as to how our hospitality will stand once you take rich people planning your trip out of the equation. Im sure the people will still be hospitable, without controlling your trip. Also please be strongly vocal about your needs. Pakistani people need a lot more strong vocalization about your boundaries. Even i as a local, would need a solid case to convince some auntie to let me go and not feed me a truck load of food, just because i came to deliver her belongings she left at our house.
There are only 23K subs on this channel right now, but 50k have watched this video. That both suck for your purposes and also shows how great this channel is man. Some people have over a million subs but can only get a couple thousand people to watch their videos.
Well I originally wrote this comment in main comments but pasting here as well for you to read. I hope you read this. You accepting Guftar's offer was not a good idea. Guftar was not a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). It is just a scam. All the wealth he had was given to his ancestors by their followers. And the people taking care of you and them were their servants well they were more like their slaves. These people are brainwashed into serving their masters and feel happiness and a sense of honor to serve them. These so called religious leaders are called "peer" and they manipulate their followers into serving them. This is more like a cult. And by the way, all this is HARAM in Islam as well and this culture exists only because of illiteracy.
I love your candid unfiltered discussions of your experiences and how you honestly feel about people and places you interact with. I too have felt that white privilege effect while I was visiting the Philippines. I usually describe it as getting the celebrity treatment like I'm Leonardo DiCaprio strolling into town. They would take pictures with me and put it in their Facebook, etc. We also went to a restaurant and they literally shut it down just to cater to us. It just felt weird and wrong like you described. In any case I loved the Philippines and they are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Would love to see a vlog from there.
As an Indian, you're on point with your observations. People will tell you otherwise but our country has a lot to improve upon before it can be considered a world power that can rival the West and more developed Asian countries when it comes to quality of life. Unequal distribution of wealth, the caste system and corrupt police and politicians, and even some of the ways people are taught to think are just a few reasons for India's assortment of problems. It's a country with beautiful nature and architecture, rich history and an interesting culture that has not yet adapted to modern times though. All the problems mentioned above paired with a huge population makes it very hard to progress further. It has been easier in China, but I suppose that's easier when a Communist regime controls many factors of livelihood there. I hope that the situation improves within the next few decades and that one day, India will be on equal footing with the West in terms of clean and green cities as well as reduced poverty and corruption. Thank you for being honest and not sugar coating. Some people just can't handle criticism. We have very real issues here and it's unfortunate that you didn't like the country, but it's understandable. Maybe one day you'll return and see a different side of India. I recommend touring some more areas in South India next time. It's generally cleaner and more developed compared to North India.

He hasn’t been to Connaught Place, Khan Market or the various Malls in Delhi, hasn’t stayed in a decent hotel and he has done the same in all the cities that he visited..staying in the worst hotels, eating at roadside joints and then crying that India sucks!! In the USA there are lots of places in NY, Sanfran, LA, LV, Washington DC Chicago etc which are pretty depressing and full of druggies and homeless people. NY is so dirty..
About the anal sex in Iraq and Muslim cultures, girls agree to do it because they want to keep their virginity (vaginal) intact. The girls that are not virgins are looked down upon; it is a sad fact but it is what it is. P.S.: I am talking about the middle and lower classes.
In the West, "You kind of work up to anal, like that's the thing you do with like your girlfriend to trust you and everything" - Small Brained Pod Solid gold lmao You sound like JD Harmeyer from the Stern show 😂
God damn, gotta say man as a guy who lives in this country, even I would never visit those places, when in india you plan your destinations ALWAYS. You unfortunately went to Varanasi, I have no idea why tourists go there cuz it's a disgusting place. The place where you ate the somosa in your previous video, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Gotta give you credit for your honesty but probably not a good idea labeling an entire country as huge as india disgusting when you've mainly visited shitty places, but I guess it just wasn't for you. Edit- Looks like based on my brief view of your other content, you deliberately go to shitty locations in many countries for content, so I guess my previously credit for honesty should be rescinded ?
No I didn’t plan for India at all- good or bad I just went where people recommended, and in a way that was easiest to cross the country without taking flights. Thats why I went to Varanasi, so many Indians told me it was a great place
@@smallbrainedpod Just accept it, you chose only shitty locations in India, and then labeled the entire country as dirty, It's literally like saying the whole of US is drug-addicted based on experiences in some locations. I am an NRI living in the US for the past 23 years. Sure, India, a developing country, is not clean compared to the US, a developed country, but is the whole of India disgusting, from your video title? The greatest gift my parents ever gave me wasn't a good upbringing, education etc. It was the ability - financially, in security, in support, to leave this country I was born in. It's honestly unredeemable as a place to live in. I've spend the following 15 years, after having left, getting over the sheer trauma of growing up there. I've come to realize through experience that even other poor, sometimes violent countries, that we often refer to in the West - Mexico, Colombia, Cambodia etc.; not a single other place comes close to India in sheer agony. Funny story, but the only time I decided to backpack India, I met the woman who would later become my spouse. She was at the time a naive Canadian who thought that India was redeemable as a travel destination. She met me at the end of my own trip and thought I was a prick for how negative I was about the country I was born in.

The over-bearing hospitality culture is annoying. If can feel fake and forced, and is often about the host's ego more than anything. When I have guests I make make sure to ask if they want alone-time and make it clear to them that asking for it won't make me upset. I don't people to feel like they have to be "perfect guests".
it's not perfect, but it's beautiful. visit with the right people, go to the right places, and maybe you'll be able to look past the dust and dirt to see the real country.

Sounds to me as if it wasn't really about hospitality, but more about showing you off like a trophy. I know the feeling. I spent a year in China as a student intern, exactly 20 years ago, in a mid-sized city that didn't see many western tourists or travelers back then. Probably more than now, since China seems to have turned into a very hostile, xenophobic shithole since Xi Jinping rules it, but back then it was still very open and friendly to foreigners. I was treated like a celebrity. My Chinese friends would use me to pick up girls. They would walk up to chicks, ask them whether they wanted to meet a foreigner and then stand in front of my dorm room door in the middle of the night with a gaggle of girls who wanted to party. Other things were funny too, like how the flamboyantly gay hair dresser called all his friends over so they could watch him cut non-black hair every time I got a hair cut. But there definitely was a element of me being paraded around to it. Municipal government officials would insist on meeting me and so I spent a lot of time at pretty awkward dinners in fancy restaurants, trying to not offend some communist party big wig by not drinking enough and stuff like that.

Since that new anti espionage law has been passed, people have been attacked for taking tourist pictures not knowing that there is a government building somewhere in the background.
No matter how bad it gets, there are always a few people like you who claim it is all not true because they themselves have not been targeted yet.
That is how myths like that drugs would be legal in China have been spread. Many foreigners have been getting away smoking weed for a long time and they think that means it is OK, not knowing that they will be snatched by the police if the police feels like it, if they have a reason (like some CCP big wig needs to be impressed) or if they need a hostage to exchange for some Chinese spy or criminal (like that Huawei manager in Canada) who has been caught somewhere.
