Very valuable insight. I just purchased a 24 PA CVO. I did not buy the extended warranty yet, because I trade bikes frequently. Nevertheless, I will consider it if I keep this one beyond the 2 year factory warranty period.
I was able to shop around for my extended service plan (Price) before my factory ran out. Oddly enough every Harley Dealership I called was priced differently. Yes, they (The Harley Davidson Dealerships) did negotiate for my business! I saved $400-$600 just shopping around different Harley Davidson dealerships across 3 states. Great explanation of the extended service plan.
Extended service plans, tire protection plans, or any sort of extended warranty, is almost never worth it. It’s really a form of insurance and you pay up front for the benefit of the what if. Like Mike said, there is a ton of margin / profit built-in to these. I’m sure it’s on the order of 50-75% in many cases. I worked at Best Buy many years ago. The protection plans for computers / electronics, were about 75% cheaper if you were an employee and bought one. Employee prices were cost plus 5% if I recall correctly. Sometimes, to move open box products, the manager would include one of these plans for free. In my experience, after having owned cars and many gadgets, if I always bought one of these plans, I would not have come out ahead, not even close. A lot of times you don’t even own the thing long enough to get the full benefit. Recently I got a nail in my car tire, and then again a few weeks later it happened again (different tire.) First time I’ve had to have a tire patched in over 15 years. Even with it happening twice, I’ll gladly pay the $30 twin times to have them repaired instead of owning a more expensive tire protection plan where I have to pay upfront.
Super timely video! I purchased my ‘22 PAS in January, ‘23. 25k miles. I didn’t purchase ESP when new. However, just purchased the five-year, or three year extension if you will, last week. I purchased from the dealership, as did not want to risk going with another third-party, like Discount ESP. Like you, my first ESP ever on anything for the exact same reasons. It’s also worth mentioning the ESP is transferable. Should you decide to sell the motorcycle . While it probably won’t add value, makes it a little easier to sell.
Just got myself a used low mileage 21’ Pan Am (Over 1800 miles). Where I am living there are mostly 21’ model and very few 22’, so my bike still under warranty till 2025 (Original owner bought it in 2023). Heard a lot about reliability issues, but I am hopeful that everything will be fine with my Pan Am. Wish me luck
I bought a used 21 as well. Only problem so far is heat shield mounting tab broke just recently. Needs a couple tack welds. Other than that, the bike has been absolutely wonderful!
@@JamesVoorhees-wm8gs my dealer so far only ask me to comeback every 1-3 month for software update. However, I keep seeing errors code C181014C popping up here and there. Dealer so far couldn’t re-create the error code, so they just reset and update the software for the rear shock
Excellent and informative video! I'm considering buying a 2012 Softail Deluxe (5300 miles & certified pre-owned). American Motorcycle Company is offering a 2-year service plan (covers seals and gaskets) for $2000. In your opinion, should I buy the plan or not?
Hey Mike thanks for the great videos! I just bought a second hand center stand and I can't find any videos on installing it. It didn't come with springs or mounting hardware either. Can you give me about direction on it? Thanks!
On Harley’s website, they have an OEM parts finder with diagrams and part numbers. You should be able to see the missing parts you need plus a basic layout of where it mounts.
Since we don't actually get a warranty with an extended service plan, and since warranties in the US are 1 to 2 years, it follows that buying from an unreliable brand such as Harley is a bad idea.
while I don't doubt some parts are made in Mexico by suppliers, there are no Harley Davidson assembly facilities in Mexico. Harley's non-US factories are in Brazil, India and Thailand.
How many fuel pumps did your Pan Am go through before the factory warranty ran out? My 23 is a year old with just shy of 10,000 miles and my fuel pump is screeching already.
I have a 2022 PA with 29,417 miles and I’m on my 2nd “replacement” fuel pump. 1st one went out at 15K replaced under factory warranty and second one at 24K replaced under ESP. Never left me stranded but made a loud screeching sound prior to replacement. Dealer was very proactive on replacement.
I have no comment for the hater who slipped one in there. Just had dealer 1k mile service on my 2024 PA Special. Its my second PA. Only traded my 2022 in for the upgrades on the 24s. My 2022 had 24,000 miles on it . Only issue was noisy fuel pump replaced under warranty at 19,000 miles. I always purchase the full ESP with tire and wheel insurance as well. Would do so with any new machine these days no matter the make or type. The costs of replacement of major driveline components on everything is tremendous. Love the PA very much. One of the best bikes I ve ever ridden. Thank you Mike for the very well researched and informative video presentations you give us. Ride safe and keep informing us.

I’m not familiar with that company, but $2,000 sounds like a lot for only 2 years.
