Dear Paul, your highly impressive photos are created by exactly this style of photography. Calm, attentive and interested in people, this is exactly what creates those energetic images like this wonderful portrait. Simply brilliant... I like your videos, they are so wonderfully motivating, thank you for that!

I love the image of the guy sitting at the table with the open door left, and the pictures behind him. Looks so natural. I love your street image of the young woman, she is so beautiful and she would love that image of herself I am sure. Your channel is one of my top favourites now. Thanks.

I don’t specialise in street portraits but I do take them if I see someone who really grabs my eye. I am fairly introverted and found it difficult at first. But what I have found is that almost nobody says no unless they are in a hurry. A few ask what I will do with them. And with everybody I offer to send them one or two of the shots. A few weeks ago I got this back: “Oh! I like these photos so much !!Thank you for the wonderful memories you gave me in the last hours before I left Hong Kong~~♡” - just go for it.

The photo that you chose Paul is the one for me but not because of the chair. The man's eyes and his posture convey a sense of vulnerability. The eyes are making a real connection with the camera. I would have loved a little more contrast but the lighting is what it is. A very beautiful portrait.

Funny thing, I agree on both your favorite images and those were the two that stood out right away. To me it's clear why, they eyes, the look in their eyes is so special in those two images. They dreamy look of the woman, you just feel she is somewhere else. Unlike the shot in the pub where you seem have made a super special connection and he looks completely at easy, almost vulnerable. Superb portraits!

Wonderful video Paul and such a beautiful set of images.
In the first set I loved #2 as a great environmental portrait of a bartender. I liked how the contrast separated your well centered subject from a busy, but lighter, background. However, he does have more of a distant expression, which creates a less welcoming feel (for me as a viewer). Even with that, I still think this is a great image. Number 4 was my other favorite. I love the mood, the angle, and general feeling of it, especially his more vulnerable expression while sitting in an empty room.
After viewing that set at least three times, #4 did edge out #2 for me as the overall winner.
The second set was easy. Your “mistake” shot took my breath away. There’s so much to enjoy in this image, a veritable feast for the eyes. I’m wondering, they say “we learn from our mistakes”…what did you learn? I learned that I want to make more mistakes! ;^) Well done, as always.

Loved both images you thought worked best. For me I was drawn mostly the lady, she looks like a Hollywood film star from the 50s a bit like a young Lauren Bacall. Pro mist filter for the win. 📷😁

    Good evening Paul,
the set of portraits on film are really good (you know that). Beyond that some of them exude something special, i am thinking of the Jorge outside (the first I think) and Jorge seated by the window (your favourite). Both in my eyes carrry an emotional load of quiet sadness as in lookinng at time in arrested motion. Oh well its a photograph, stupid me. Still they both instillate the sense of a world on edge.
regarding the street photos I also was arrested by the soft quality to it giving it a more gentle look and feel than a lot of digital street photos. May be a mistake, but a happy one. Also gets my vote for that specific reason.

    • @paulreidphotography
      @paulreidphotography  3 месяца назад

Thanks mate!!! I know you like the softer look of film and that filter on the Q2M worked a treat!

Paul, is was a great video! I was also immediately drawn to the same portrait of George and of the lady in the street! It’s amazing how some photos just capture you and hold you spellbound.
I did want to ask you how you metered those portraits of George. What techniques did you use? I’m assuming all those portraits were shot with available light?
    Thank you!

Hard to pick a favourite from that portrait session, Paul, you both did brilliantly, he's an absolute natural isn't he😍. One question, do people ever ask what you're going to do with the street portraits or do you tell them and get that out the way? Just wondering if there are people who'd be surprised to see themselves on RUclips? I think I'd need a model release form here 🙄

Very nice pictures, Paul. Did you deliberately compose all the photos of the man in the bar so that he is always exactly in the centre of the picture? I actually try to avoid that. For me it looks a bit like the focusing indicator on the ground glass is the father of the image composition. 😉

    • @paulreidphotography
