Very much enjoyed this video and noted your comments about getting the sense of movement out of a slower shutter speed. Loved the 'smoke in the carrier bag' shot!
I adore my 18mm Super Elmar for street it’s like an action vacuum cleaner. You just have to be brave and get right in there. It’s not great in poor light. Great video Jamie.
Appreciate that though I wasn't overly happy with many of these. I think it is just too wide for me and the days I used this lens it waste busy enough for the lens to shine. If you took this lens to a parade, or rush hour on a corssroads then you can abuse this lens when shooting with confidence. Thanks for taking the time to message. J
I enjoyed that Jamie. I do agree with you about the 28mm being the sweet spot. My recent article on MACFILOS was mostly 28 with a bit of 43. I now use the Elmarit on the M11 after sticking with Q3-43 and letting the Q3 28 go. The streets of London are unique and plentiful for what you do. Best of luck for 2025. Happy New Year! Mark
Thanks Mark. I think the Q3 43 is incredible. That lens is one of the most perfect I have come across whilst still bringing a wonderful character. Good decision to swap over. Appreciate the luk... I need it haha! Take care. J
I always enjoy watching your process Jamie! Few questions to help me improve my own photography. How are you getting the moving subjects in focus with such a slow shutter speed? My hypothesis is that you are moving the camera with the person/scooter/etc which aids in maintaining the set focus distance. However, at such a wide aperture and narrow focus zone/field of depth does that make zone focus pretty much impossible? Looking to immolate the same motion blur (7:20 - 7:40) outcome but u sure of the technique to practice.
Appreciate that Brian. To be real I am not so good at low shutter images but do love the images you get when they are right. Yes, you are bang on, moving with the subject and matching their speed is the key. It's fun to do as well. Whenever I consciously drop my shutter I am aware I may miss the photo but the images are worth it when all falls into place. most of the images with motion ten to be around f8. So focusing is always good but matching the speed is the main variable. If I learn a more complete technique then I will be sure to share though I feel it is just a numbers game. Best, J
Oh good. I think this is a wonderful lens though it it is not for me and not suited for everyone and an every day carry. You have to shoot this with intention! Thanks for dropping in and leaving your thoughts. J
oooo that will be a fun lens to use. I always think with a lens that wide and shooting scenes with space it is helpful to dirty the image by bringing in something in the foreground. I am still yet to use the M3 but know it is considered one of the GOATS of the M system with masses of history attached to its existence. Have fun with it! J
Actually, the 16mm WATE is even wider. Highly recommend the 24 lux, it creates a very classy look, as well as the wide angle dynamism. It's obvious why Allan Schaller loves it.
i have a cinema 12mm lenses, heavy but fun to use, equates to a true 18mm, it's funny how i can shoot in a direction from less than a foot away and know that i will get most of their body in frame, so wild being the wide! my eye went to her also at 1:39
Oh nice, is that from a micro 4/3? Which set up have you got? Yes always shocked how much you end up seeing after reviewing the images or getting the scans back! Maximum context.
TBH, some of those shots are really nice. You are not doing justice to your images by not giving credit to those empty spaces. The images I love the most with 21mm and wider are: - b&w - there is one highly impacting subject - plenty of empty space Just saying that you should try to make some big prints and see… While the busy-movement capture is alluring with wide-angle and works well for Instagram and fb where people are flipping through fast, it rarely works when you put into a print and put it on the wall.
What is it that you actually are trying to show with your images? Just running and gunning around with an 18 mm does not make you a more interesting photographer. 18mm can be a great lens, if you know how to use it.
@@goldfinch2283 I’m actually trying to show real use scenarios and what this lens can do just in a short space of time. If it’s not to your liking then there are plenty of other channels and those photographers are likely far better than me and you can find enjoyment elsewhere
@@jamie.dop_ FWIW, as someone who usually shoots 35-50mm-ish, I found this wide angle/slow shutter experiment actually quite refreshing and inspiring. I might try it for myself sometime.

Im not so sure on this one but you are too kind as always being such a good friend. Love you pal!
I have to agree the M11M & 28mm Sumicrom with orange filter is my favourite
@@PeterHartland the true sweet spot! Glad you agree. I’m out today with that set up!

You self scan w/ SL2? and which lens? I’m also looking scan with an SL 😎 but haven’t decided on a macro yet

I was wondering if 28mm would be too large but now that I saw the great sutff coming from your 18mm review I'm no longer concerned XD
