  • Needed to show how this drum had to be removed. My shoulder hurts from
From drilling out the three flush screws that also hold on the drum that are not really needed. Also you can see what this tire looks like that is 72 yrs old.
The brake shoes have very little wear on them so just cleaning off with Brake Kleen. The wheel cylinders will be honed out one of the inside pistons was stuck and the other moved free probably why it blew fluid through the wheel cylinder.

Hey Lucky. Man, that's a lot of work. But that's what we have to do in order to get anything done on these old rigs. Thanks for sharing.👍👍🍁

Yes and only 3 more wheels to go lol. Yes its sort of a learning curve for me I have never worked on a Truck with parts this big but I'm learning.

I took Auto Mechanics in High School back in the early 70s and have worked on cars and trucks most of my life. I just traded my 99 F150 last year on new Honda but what I'm getting at is that working on breaks of older cars and trucks can be a challenge so I give you and Ron a lot of credit and so far you two have done great job. So keep up the awesome work. Thanks for the video ,Slim.

I and Ron have both worked on brakes like on my F150 and my passenger cars just never something's with brakes this size. So it's a challenge on this truck for us. Thanks for watching Slim

Those are some BIG tires. The price doesn't seem too bad though for tires that big. Heck on my C7 Corvette I had a few years ago, those tires were $450 each!

the problem with this is these are split rim tires and regular tire shops wont do them. Had to find a place in town that works on big rig tires and they will take these off at $45 a tire then I have to buy tubes at $60 each and when the tires are in stock they are not now those are $350 each so add that together and through the hazardous $10each waste fee in and new tires will cost grand total $1820.

You're putting in some overtime today Larry, but like they say, when you're on a roll stick with it. I didn't realise how big the wheel and tyre was until I saw it next to you. Are you going to check the bearings as well, now that it's all apart? Thanks for the video, very enjoyable :)

Oh yes going to check on the wheel bearings repack if necessary. Check the gear oil in the rear end. Then have to put in one drive axle and need 2 more. Then have to make sure the PTO is disabled as well. Still a lot to do and it is a beast as far as the size of the parts go. I have worked on cars and trucks but never anything this big so its sort of a learning curve. But was amazed the brakes have little wear and inside the brake drum is not all torn up so pretty lucky so far really. Luckily the Parking brake is independent from the brake system and it still works fine.

Those screws looked like trouble in the last video... Do you think you will be able to find a replacement for them ? Mil Spec parts were made to last :)

No the screws are really not necessary and will not be replaced. This will only be a parade vehicle. According to Nevada DMV it can never be titled as a daily driver. Thanks for watching
