This is one of the best things I've seen in my lifetime, love the genuine enthusiasm for science, thank you for putting this out here
I proudly say that I have participated in one of the foldscope camps, and it is one of the things that has changed the way I look at world. Thank you Prof. Manu Prakash for this brilliant invention. He is really humble as we also has a chance to ask him questions one on one. And thank you Mr. Mark Rober for making such informative and fun videos.

Only 80? You're missing a few zeros there, if you want to mimic the complete mess that is the American healthcare system.
@@leyren2606 oh yeah you guys are right $80 is the cost for a cotton swab and a Salt water bag cost $120 the actual cost for this would be around $8000 just for your one malaria check at the hospital.
Yeah I am quite aware that American hospitals are a mess but I have never been to one because I'm a Canadian so that's why my cost for a transfusion was so low but I know in reality it cost $150 just to go to the hospital and the transfusion would probably be $100 instead of $80

It's $25 on the website because you're buying a kit, not the microscope by itself. From the website,
Accessories include a magnetic coupler for recording photos and videos through a mobile device, an LED lighting module that mounts on the back of the Foldscope, a set of prepared microscope slides, infinitely re-usable PVC slides, a Foldscope journal and field guide, and many accessories for collecting, storing, and preparing samples (including 5-micron nylon filter cloth, Berlese funnel meshes, and more!)

For people who own personal digital cutters like a Brother Scan N Cut, cricut, cameo, etc the foldscope could be sold / downloaded as a .SVG to be cutout by anyone with one of these types of machines. The lens and a light source are all that remains for the physical portion of it. Or use the built-in scanner on the ScanNCut to make a cut-to-data version of the paper portion of it.
