I absolutely love the concept that Napoleon instead of seeing a threat would see a challenge. This is actually some pretty solid Alt. History stuff tbh
This was meant to be a silly, quick video, I spent waaay too long on it LMAO. After making some photoshops of Napoleonic War paintings with Tripods in, I was thinking 'I wonder if there's a tool that could quickly animate these' and after looking and thinking there wasn't, I then discovered PikaLabs which does just that lol. A very helpful and impressive tool to say the least.
Since the British Army in the original failed, and the American Army failed in both the 1950s and the 21st century, I suspect the Martians will have the same initial success against Le Grande Armee but will be taken down by the same tiny little Grognard bacteria that won the other fights.
Yeah, very good point! I was debating whether to make it succeed or not. In the end I did it this way as I wanted a moment of hopelessness (mainly due to the 'There is nothing we can do' meme), so I decided to make the somewhat vague statement that one of them emerged and leave it up to the viewer to decide whether the plan was mostly successful and just that one that managed to survived or whether more did as well. (Although, of course, the visuals I put in the video seem to indicate more than one survived, so that probably destroys the vagueness I was hoping for. I intended the pictures to just be there as a representation of what's going on.)
this was an absolutely awesome video, there were times where i chuckled to myself cuz its meant to be a funny video by design. i know you get a few suggestions here and there but i would love to see one of your in depth analysis videos of the great Martian war 1913-1917. honestly man i love what you do and always tune in to see new videos and they make me smile when a new one drops, please don`t stop what you do. i love seeing it.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy them! :) And yeah, I've been intending to do one of the great martian war. I have a lot planned at the moment so I don't know if it'll be nay time soon, but I've seen it twice and have been meaning to rewatch it to do videos about it.
awesome video, but one detail I must quickly say, the tripods, specifically the 05 tripods (As shown in this video) don't actually come out of the cylinders, they actually climb out of the ground, after the Aliens ride lightning down into the tripods.
I’ve been exploring the idea of War of the Worlds in the Napoleonic era, but mine turned into a survival story about ordinary people, because I had the idea that, since the aliens had been closely studying earth, as mentioned by Wells, comparing it to a man studying bacteria in a microscope, the invaders knew exactly who humanity’s leaders were. In my scenario, Napoleon would never have had the chance to rally his troops, because the first thing the tripods do is annihilate Paris, targeting Napoleon’s palace first, as well as all France’s other leaders, as well as the Grande Armee. Essentially, in this scenario Napoleon is hunted down and killed by the invaders within minutes. Same with all Britain’s leaders and Austria’s and all other nations. I suppose I wanted the aliens to think more strategically, which makes them even more formidable. They don’t want humans rallying and therefore eliminating anyone behind whom people can rally is the first thing they do.
I'd imagine that, rather quickly, the Napoleonic Wars would end shortly, leaving the conflict previously on the back burner to focus on the new threat. Britain, Prussia, Russia and Austria would all, reluctantly, join together to deal with the martians.
I feel like cannons would be incredibly effective against the tri-pods. After all.. a massive metal ball smacking an tri-pod going incredibly fast would be enough to possibly take it down. (I don’t know much about tri-pods since I haven’t seen the films or films)
Well they don’t have BS energy shields like the ones in the 2005 Spielberg movie. 1890s artillery *could* take them down with a lucky hit in the original book, and the dreadnought HMS Thunderchild managed to destroy three of them before getting sunk. But those were exceptions and the Martians could generally clear a battlefield without any serious damage. Replace the much faster, explosive-tipped artillery shells of the time with Napoleonic cannonballs fired from guns that aren’t even designed to aim very high and it’ll be even harder.
Oh merde!😂 How wonderfully absurd and I can almost hear the spirit of Graham Chapman's colonel character saying " Stop that, it's silly. No-one likes a good alien invasion more than me, except of course my wife, oh and some of her friends"...Tri-effel tower, really!🤣 Good fun and an interesting alternative history, but still very silly!😂
France would have lasted longer than the UK military did, due to the French armies sheer numbers and the fact they likely would fight like devils for France. Likely some heroic French Unit would have performed a Thunder child moment. The only problem I think is that artillery of this era is even more inaccurate and less mobile than the one used by the British in 1898. Napoleon just has to make France last long enough for the Germs to kill of the fighting machines and their Martian pilots. I would say there would not be any way a thunderchild like ship rescue could work since without the metal hull the ship would be sunk in one blast and unable to ram the Tripods either, nor fire it's guns in a way to hit oncoming Tripods. Any well the civilian ships would get sunk without any time being brought by the heroic sacrifice of the French ship which takes the place of Thunderchild.
but the only thing humans had even in 1898 that could hurt the tripods was artillery but in this era artillery was rifled and field artillery at the time could hit at a kilometre away very accurately. infantry and cavalry were useless against massive metal walking things. so i not can not see how "massive french armies" would do anything but give the tripods more things to shoot at. only the artillery regiments could be of use. but at this time artillery was smoothbore and muzzle loaded with a max accurate range 0f 150-300 meters and a less accurate range 400-800 meters. the tripods walk through human rifled artillery with ease in the 1898 book only losing a few tripods. in this era where artillery is even worse i can not see how napoleon would even be able to do anything different to other generals like wellington in this scenario. humans are simply not advance enough in this time period to even stand a chance.
@@accountreality1988 True, maybe a lucky shot might hit one. But the Numbers thing I was more suggesting they would just have manpower to throw at the tripods to slow them down by having to Heat Ray so many. Likely the only really chance for the French artillery would be if they can ambush the tripod with cannon fire or from high up fortified positions. But this trick will work only once as the Tripods will just alter tactics and use the black smoke and then heat ray everything. Like how they countered British artillery in the book. Maybe rigging up some huge explosives might slow the tripods down, but I doubt it. I would never say the French could have beat them of course, but that it would take longer for the tripods to wipe out the French army due to their sheer numbers.
@@RomanHistoryFan476ADalso remember the cannons used in the Napoleonic times was black powder, far less powerful then the smokeless powder artillery used in1898. there could be a chance that the Napoleonic era cannon is not heavy or powerful enough to penetrate tripod armour.
@@accountreality1988 There is that as well, The armour in the book if my mind remembers right is thick Aluminium I think. I actually think the Guns will never get a shot off as the Tripods heat weapon has a range of the horizon being a heat weapon. In the book, the only reason the army got to fire a few shots was due to surprise and the fact they where hidden in tree lines or in bushes.
@@RomanHistoryFan476AD not sure about the claim that the tripods were made out of aluminium. i have not read the book in years either but i can not at all remembered the author mentioning aluminium or really any description of what the tripods were made out off. just that they were massive metal things with legs. if you could find a line that mentions this it would be interesting.
