I find it funny that this movie had Nikola Tesla, Edison's rival, the man who unlocked Martian technology because an American author published a sequel to the Wells novel called Edison's Conquest of Mars.
That last speech about going to Mars is so cool. It reminded me of Pacific Rim or Independence Day. Now that I think about it, this movie reminds me of those alien invasion stories. This was a neat little story and I wish we would get a story where the humans invade the Aliens.
Who's to say it will happen? Once the Martian invasion force has been vanquished, Germany and Britain may just conjure up an excuse to get the European War back on again.
I really dig this movie. Originally I thought it was another cash grab from 2005, but I got to say . . . The story’s alright, the designs are really good and seem to go off the description from the book, the animations pretty good, the historical figures being sprinkled in is a nice touch, and the fact that they made this like a sequel to the book and also made it feel like its own thing is something I’ve only seen with Godzilla. Overall 4.5/5!

I wish that actual history had played out like this. It would nice for once if in real life something called all people to fight together and tell the warmongering politicians to sod off instead of blindly following their orders to fight and kill each other.
Watched this for the first time and I gotta say I was impressed and I enjoyed it, I have seen many adaptations of War of the Worlds and each has had its own take on it which I found fascinating, this one I found pretty good and I liked the fact the humans started using tech against the Martian war machines, but you also had events in this time line that also led to WW1 in our time line, but yet the humans still remained strong, and yes there was plenty of cheesy moments, but these are good cheesy moments that I liked and found fitting, also the Martian war machines looked amazing, they did well with them
I saw this once, really liked the classic feel of the well-done animation too. The alternative historic figures are well placed in the story too. At the rate the Ukraine war is going, we might see some of this tech in the battlefield too soon.
This movie shows the reality of war of the worlds in 1914 and a good adaptation of H.G wells book. All the human tripods have a very good design, after the first invasion 1899. All the greatest minds unlocked the secrets of creating the same alien heat rays (Obviously they are ray gun cannons). What is actually bad, is that humanity almost start ww1, if it wasnt for the aliens coming back, humanity will be fighting two battles: 1 against countries and empires and 2 second against the Martians. Politicians, kings, presidents and chancellors, didnt even learn anything about working together when their nations were in ruins in 1899( The first martian invasion). At least they learn to work together in the end, but obviously a few groups want to continue their own fight against humanity than fighting the martians. If the fight was real against aliens today, the allies will be working together but Russia, China, Iran and others will be working together(( I mean to groups divided: The Allies (NATO) and the dictatorship countries (Russia, China, Iran and others) )). In case of Mexico, Central america and south america, will be fighting to survive and maybe fighting together with their neighboring countries, depending where are the aliens at.

2.5 ⭐️ out of 5. If you want to see a nice scifi war movie this will do it for you. It shows its age in the computer animation department (even though most had gotten this down years earlier then 2012) and it is chock full of cliques from the lead to the girl in typical 5 man band fashion. It is nice to see people know some history (even if a lot of it is not quite right.) Even so it is a nice steampunk like style and fictional movie that does nothing to write home about. Everything mostly works and that is all this movie can do. ((I will not do not for the representation or people melting over and over again))

Sadly, the movie's distributors really mangled the release, so at this point a sequel looks unlikely. But there was an entire issue of Heavy Metal Magazine that ran stories from the world of the movie and Adam Whitlatch wrote a novelization with a lot of input from the director and co-writer (me) that greatly expanded the story in the film.
