Can't happen. The ABK acquisition almost got shot down on anti-trust laws, and Valve is a much larger chunk of the market share. There's no way even Microsoft can pony up the funds to buy out Valve, and even if they could (which would involve going into frankly cosmic levels of debt) they'd be shot down by both the US and EU on the basis of anti-trust. If the EU was willing to poo-poo the deal based on how much of the cloud-gaming space Microsoft controlled with just ABK then doing it but like ten times bigger is a no-fly zone.

Whether this is true or not, I hate how Microsoft is trying to become a monopoly within the gaming space. Even after buying studio after studio, they still have nothing to show for it and even when they do have something that is great (Hi-Fi Rush), it isn’t enough for them. Resulting in shut downs and layoffs. My guess is that if this is true, buying Valve is a safe investment because most of its money (presumably) comes from Steam. With that being said, buying Valve for them wouldn’t be the same as any regular studio acquisition, it’s more of buying the ownership to the best profitable store for PC gamers. Which means that they don’t have to worry about any investment loss from a game since Valve owns Steam. It’s just a constant profit generator that will make up the money that they spent buying Valve plus additional profit. If this is true, then any money they save from layoffs and shutdowns will more than likely go to this acquisition.
