Microsoft is giving you 4 options. But a regular xbox which would be the cheapest, xbox slim, scorpio, or PC. All games will be compatible on these 4 platforms. The'yre giving you options on what kind of hardware you want. Cant believe i have to explain this but what ever.

I'm going with the One S. I've never had a next-gen console, and while some might say the PS4 Pro is better, I've played more on the Xbox One with my friends. I know the Scorpio is coming out and it's going to be way more powerful, but I'm not that hardcore of a player to need 4k gaming, 1080p games look fantastic to me. Also the Scorpio is probably going to be bigger and much more expensive than the One S, and I have little space in my setup. The Scorpio has VR, but that doesn't interest me. DO YOU THINK I'M MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE?

I'm gonna miss the one decent exclusive that comes to ps4 every couple of years.. but most of anything worth playing on ps4 I can play on my pc with my elite controller.
Why doesn't anyone ever seem to talk about the IR blaster? This plus the recent update giving us voice commands via Cortana, makes it so that the Kinect and its adapter aren't even needed. For those that used the camera for QR code scanning, Microsoft has recently updated its Smart Glass app to scan QR Codes. I was someone who bought one of the first Kinectless bundles. So all these additions, without the need for a camera that I could care less for, make this an upgrade that I would very much consider. I also have one of the older controller models and the LB shoulder button has been failing. So a new controller with extended range, Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm audio jack would be a welcomed addition.
I normally not one to tell people what to buy. But if you have a Xbox one already. It would probably be smart to skip this model. Now the Scorpio that's coming in 2017 is a different story. Video sums it up perfectly.

Something I think a lot of people are missing is that this one the cheapest 4K HDR Blu-Ray Players out there, if not THE cheapest. Pair that with gaming functionality, a wide variety of apps, HDMI in, a beautifully designed UI and other smart features and it's even one of the best ones as well, and again, if not THE best. Add the simple and straight forward Media Remote and you're golden.
I have both consoles. The PS4 I had was quiet, you couldn't tell it was on, unless you were looking at it. Xbox One was quiet for a couple of months, but it started making noticeable sounds, and would freeze from time to time. I never even move the heavy console, and it freezes. I don't know why that is.
My PS4 is louder than my Xbox One but it is still hard to notice while playing, unless I have been marathoning a game all day like I did when Uncharted 4 came out.

A few decibels isn't a "fair bit" the difference isn't even the slightest bit noticeable when in use. Unless you are sitting in front of it with your ear to it in a completely quiet environment you will never know its making noise.
Basically, if you have an Xbox One already there isn't really any reason to purchase the Xbox One S unless you wish to play in 4K but that requires a 4K tv. Your best bet is to save and wait for Scorpio next year.
You know what’s creepy, when I had the original Xbox one it would always turn on in the middle of the night when no One or nothing was around It and it would shut off, I’m pretty sure it was broken but it always shook me a little
Well I'll probably get one of these in a few months, I'm not really interested in the Scorpio, since all the extra power it has is probably just to render 4k even better and do lot's of VR stuff easier, and since I don't want VR (or have room for VR if I did)and I don't own a 4K TV, it holds very little value to me, So XB1s it'll be.

And while I maintain that the PS4 is superior to the Xbox One S, due to it's better specs and wider selection of exclusives and in my opinion, a superior control (I use an Xbox One controller for my PC gaming). This is all subjective, Uncharted is one of Playstation's best exclusive, but I never really fancied it and I've also owned all of the xbox's. Gears is one of my favorite game series of all time and Forza is far superior to Gran Turismo.....and this is coming from someone who started racing on the first GT for PS1. My biggest issue with Xbox is Microsoft, they lie to customers and use dirty marketing tactics, the RUclips debacle comes to mind, cloud gaming, the Kinect they forced people to buy. And although they reversed their policy on always online, trying disconnecting your console from the internet and see how useful it is......
XBOXGUY PS4 is superior to Xbox in nearly every way. PlayStation does have better exclusives, at least more variety which happen to be Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Persona 5, Bloodborne, Nier: Automata, Nioh, Horizon: Zero Dawn and many more. Forza is alright but you can't expect much from a racing game, Halo died out and Gears isn't that relevant anymore. Other than that what does Xbox have? Not to mention the PS4 controller is much better. The Xbox D-pad and bumper buttons feel really cheap and don't respond that well. This is coming from a guy who owns both and plays Xbox more cause my friend only plays Xbox.
Quick review: It's a slim version, with 4K video, HDR and a very slight framerate improvement. Buy it if you want an 'entry level' xbox and aren't planning on getting the most likely expensive Scorpio.
Request Testing on Halo Master Chief Collection and see if it improve loading time and gaming online! Also we do need the input of HDMI out another add on for multi video or gaming but i really do need HDMI can do gaming Frame Rate improvements if you have shorter HDMI next to Xbox One S to your other gaming consoles and broadcast gameplay with the HDMI input like playing Overwatch on your PS4 or PC or another Xbox One to your Xbox One S and broadcast Twitch and do hype-up gameplay while running Xbox One S!
And i have both consoles. there are single player games i play on ps4, and multiplayer and matchmaking online for xbox because its that much better. PC for everything else ;)

Probably not just going by the PC components needed to provide that much power. However there are many options for PC cases now that can handle high end components that aren't much larger that an original Xbox one, so it could happen.

I was a Playstation guy but bought a Xbox one S 2 months ago. The head phone port stopped working within 2 weeks and now the console keeps will not work and just makes weird clicking sounds. Unfortunately I misplaced my receipt so unable to return to shop. Now it's just sat in a cupboard collecting dust and I've gone back to Play Station.

I had an xbox 360 like 5-6 years ago and I had it for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. But when it crashed in 2014 i kinda lost my excitement of video games. But since we’ve been in this quarantine and have been pretty bored. So I ordered me a xbox one s and can’t wait to play it.
its not so much an upgrade as it is a revision. this is how the X1 looks now. theres little incentive to upgrade if you already have one, but for those getting X1s this holiday its what theyre getting
@ign I'm shocked that no one has simply pointed out the fact that most gamer's don't own BOTH systems. And that the PSNeo and XBOS both serve the same purpose.... which is to introduce the other side to their platform and provide 4k playback... and that's all. I've never had a Xbox, but the S looks like a good starting point even with Scorpio looming... because I want a 4k HD player and I'm happy with my PS4.... and I think the same can be said for those who are happy with their XBone... but want 4k playback for Media.
Don't currently own a 4k tv, NOW the same console size as the PS4, new internal power supply the PS4 already has, and a small almost un-noticeable difference in overclocking, I think I'll keep my PS4. Nice improvements from the 2013 one release though.
Just because the Scorpio is coming out you had an issue with recommending the Xbox One S as if everyone is going to be able to afford the Scorpio?? Scorpio is targeting a certain group and the price of the box will reflect that some people care about specs others just care about gaming. For those who won't be able to afford Scorpio the Xbox One S is an alternative tho it can't run AAA games in native 4k it can for indie type games and + every game gets upscaled. 4k TVs are becoming affordable by the day an a lot people are making the switch, but I respect your review.

It's a slim version, with 4K video, HDR and a very slight framerate improvement.
Buy it if you want an 'entry level' xbox and aren't planning on getting the most likely expensive Scorpio.

Request Testing on Halo Master Chief Collection and see if it improve loading time and gaming online! Also we do need the input of HDMI out another add on for multi video or gaming but i really do need HDMI can do gaming Frame Rate improvements if you have shorter HDMI next to Xbox One S to your other gaming consoles and broadcast gameplay with the HDMI input like playing Overwatch on your PS4 or PC or another Xbox One to your Xbox One S and broadcast Twitch and do hype-up gameplay while running Xbox One S!

Probably not just going by the PC components needed to provide that much power. However there are many options for PC cases now that can handle high end components that aren't much larger that an original Xbox one, so it could happen.

I was a Playstation guy but bought a Xbox one S 2 months ago. The head phone port stopped working within 2 weeks and now the console keeps will not work and just makes weird clicking sounds. Unfortunately I misplaced my receipt so unable to return to shop. Now it's just sat in a cupboard collecting dust and I've gone back to Play Station.

I had an xbox 360 like 5-6 years ago and I had it for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. But when it crashed in 2014 i kinda lost my excitement of video games. But since we’ve been in this quarantine and have been pretty bored. So I ordered me a xbox one s and can’t wait to play it.

@ign I'm shocked that no one has simply pointed out the fact that most gamer's don't own BOTH systems. And that the PSNeo and XBOS both serve the same purpose.... which is to introduce the other side to their platform and provide 4k playback... and that's all.
I've never had a Xbox, but the S looks like a good starting point even with Scorpio looming... because I want a 4k HD player and I'm happy with my PS4.... and I think the same can be said for those who are happy with their XBone... but want 4k playback for Media.

Don't currently own a 4k tv, NOW the same console size as the PS4, new internal power supply the PS4 already has, and a small almost un-noticeable difference in overclocking, I think I'll keep my PS4. Nice improvements from the 2013 one release though.

Just because the Scorpio is coming out you had an issue with recommending the Xbox One S as if everyone is going to be able to afford the Scorpio?? Scorpio is targeting a certain group and the price of the box will reflect that some people care about specs others just care about gaming. For those who won't be able to afford Scorpio the Xbox One S is an alternative tho it can't run AAA games in native 4k it can for indie type games and + every game gets upscaled. 4k TVs are becoming affordable by the day an a lot people are making the switch, but I respect your review.
