- The Xbox One in 2024 is pretty great if you are looking to experience an awesome budget gaming machine. The Xbox One X in particular is a great option for backwards compatibility enhanced Xbox games without having to step into the higher costs of the Xbox Series S. In this video I will talk about why I'm playing the Xbox One again in 2024, and why it offers such great value. I will go over what a full year of Xbox Game Pass could get you in the used games market, and recommend a lot of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games that are worth playing in 2024. Another good reason to pick up either the Xbone or the Series S is that they can turn into emulation powerhouses. Enabling the dev mode on these consoles allows you to run and install various emulators, so you can have a massive library of PS2, PSP, N64, etc. games running perfectly. Could be interesting to research for a follow-up video.

That's why I think the S is a really compelling option, it offers a really great all in one, however for a steeper entry price. Just all depends on the person's budget and what they want to sacrifice for sake of budget.
I actually went and bought a Series S for this exact reason. I got it used for $160 and it does an amazing job running the games I've tried (which is SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Wii games using Retroarch and Dolphin)

So for $700 I got xbox one x bundled /w forza horizon 4, 4k 55inch samsung qled tv.
I honestly went in for a cheaper samsung tv, but the qled caught my eye and told the worker.. I'd take it and he told me to pick out a xbox one x to go with it. I was shocked.

Found a store near me that sells used Xbox/360 games for $5 a piece. Been building my collection from it.

The best thing is having options. There is no right or wrong. I held off on getting an Xbox One until 2017 when I got an Xbox One S.the tipping point for me was getting backward compatibility with some original Xbox games along with the Xbox 360 games. Now I have an Xbox series X and play often remotely on my phone or iPad.
Owership of games is important. That is why I have ZERO game related subscriptions.

As someone who has all the modern systems; Switch, PS5, Series X and the Steam Deck and greatly enjoys playing them I still won’t deny that the a Xbox One is a impressive bargain. For $80 or so dollars you get a system that has plenty of great games. The games for the most part are pretty dirt cheap and still hold up. I would recommend to nearly anyone who is gaming on a budget to pick one up. And if you want more new games to get a Series S, they are usually $200 on the second hand market . Just remember that it doesn’t play any disc.

I replaced my X1X hard drive with an SSD and it makes a great companion console. It's also a nice feature to have Gen 9 streaming on Gamepass.

Lovely video BBK - I've been offline for a LONG time now. I haven't plugged my XBONE since I left uni in 2021 but I'm about to move into a new flat in London (wow) and I think it's time to blow the dust off the old dog. Witcher 3 is a game I've had my eye on for a long time, going to try that and AC: Valhalla (I was one of the few that actually liked Odyssey!). Thanks for inspiring me!
Funny enough a year or 2 ago I finally made the plunge and bought my first PlayStation 3. Games were about $5 each for all the first party games I never got to check out from that generation like Killzone 2 & Resistance Fall Of Man.
I think what is also great about all these games is if you end of buying the series x they all work well if not Better on that so back compat is great

In the future you could make a video combining the exclusive use of xCloud, for example using the fire stick tv, in contrast to purchasing an Xbox one X and very good games.
I used to have an Xbox One [Original VCR], I bought it on Black Friday 2019 for $90, and it got me through the whole pandemic.
I bought an Xbox Series X from Gamestop on March of last year with money I put aside from work, I traded in my Xbox One and got store credit that I used towards RE4R.
I own physical copies of Mirror's Edge and Final Fantasy XIII [and alot more Xbox 360 games].
$200 can get you like 100 games depending where you look it will for me definitely I like a lot of 360 and Xbox one games

I only play Forza Horizon 5 on my xbox through Game Pass Ultimate. Great value for me indeed!
I think Game Pass as a value proposition increases if you have buddies on it. Me and my friends probably wouldn't have bought D4, but since it was on gamepass we all sunk around 60 hours into it. If I can get 1-2 experiences like that, a single player game, and have access to all Halo/COD, and sports games going forward. That's a good deal for me. Game pass is definitely for a certain type of player.
Well said, and I like what you mentioned, it one hundred percent is for a certain type of player. My preference these days would be to rather own quite a few games that I can have forever or re-sell down the road, rather than the temporary nature of pass, but as you mentioned, it's a great way to try a game with friends
I know this is based on xbox one but after watching this I may pick up a gamecube. Some really great games on that console!

Yea it’s definitely worth it to buy or keep your console, Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games play beautifully and many times at far higher frame rates than the original.
You have uploaded that video at the right time. Recently, I've been thinking about getting myself an Xbox one X or S and some physical games that are not available on any other platform. I like the idea of building a physical collection. I have some ps4 games, some switch ones, and my shelf could use some more green colour around.

Yeah, but honestly if multiplayer titles are the focus than I'd look more towards a series s or x. The games recommended are singleplayer for the most part

The only problems I have for have an Xbox One X I’ve had since day one. Some games start up and freezes at curtain points. Like Black ops 3 will start up and get into a round of zombies and freezes and kicks me out to dashboard. Other times it does that at the main menu. I deleted the game and reinstalled it I troubleshot my console. It does that to a handful of games. Any ideas what’s wrong. The games work but some just freeze up.
I LOVE all the RUclips and reddit posts saying PS is king and Xbox is a failure lol. Makes me laugh hysterically...PS is so overrated its not even funny, and so is PC. Yeah, if like single player action-adventure games that all resemble the SAME formula then yes, PS is for you. But in modern days, it doesn't really matter which console you have or even if you're playing on PC. Most gamers don't care about the console/ PC vs console war, they're going to purchase the system that works best for them. It's dumb to have a stupid rivalry for no reason. Most of the people I know who claim they're "PlayStaion" only people...90% of the games they play are the SAME as what I play on Xbox.
7:01 with the Series S you don't get the Xbox One X enhancements in backward compatible games or Xbox One games even I believe and obviously no disc drive, also in many games you get lesser graphics (mainly resolution) so it's not entirely better and more expensive, it is faster in terms of processing (higher framerates in many games) and faster in loading games so win some and you lose some, if you got the money just get the Xbox Series X and you get the advantages of both consoles!

Funnily enough, I have the Xbox One S and the Series S, but still think both of them are good machines in 2024. Yes, the Series S lets you play more up to date, but since the Xbox One is still getting some games, it does actually give you a good idea to get the games that still play on the Xbox One S on a disk then only get the solely only next gen games for the Series S.

All the Xbox games I basically play I own. I solely have gamepass for the online access as it’s required. But you can buy the core version for only 9.99 a month. It gives you 25-30 games but will save you money if you’re not going to play them anyways. When something cool comes out (like stalker 2) or if you want to try a day one but don’t expect to play it long (black ops 6moght be 2-3 months tops) then you can change it to the 16.99 version for only the month and change it back. Will definitely save me on the blops6 aspect. Even stalker 2 I’ll beat it and probably never touch it again

I wouldn't recommend the old VCR Xbox Ones. They were notorious for having faulty blu ray drives. Especially the early models. I'd opt for a Xbox One S. Those also had 4k blu ray drives which allow you to watch 4k blu rays.
The Series S is a digital only machine So say goodbye to used physical games. But it is a current gen console so it will play all the new games coming out.
Honestly, If you don't care that much about better graphics or framerates. Or the new games coming out The Xbox One S is the best way to go. You get a good reliable console that plays 4k blu rays for cheap and it plays physical games including all the 360 back compat titles. and you still have access to gamepass if you want. and its library is still massive.
I have a Series X and I'm quit happy with it. Because I know not everyone wants to spend money on a new console. The Xbox One S is in my opinion the perfect budget option.

Still play on Xbox One S once in a while and decided to skip Xbox Series. I mostly play on a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 $450.00 AMD 5500U laptop that I use for remote work and gaming. I'm really into low-cost hardware. I don't do Gamepass. Just wait a bit and buy games at a nice discount.

I’m on PlayStation and PC. I Was considering getting an Xbox one x for back compat, but it wouldn’t cover all the 360/og Xbox games I am looking to play. I would only get an. Xbox one of it completely removed the need for me to have 360/og Xbox in my setup rotation. I am enjoying the benefits of pc gaming, as it has infinite backwards compatibility. If the Xbox one had 100% backwards compatibility I would definitely consider a purchase more

When buying off EBay you’re scared of the quality of the products. Disk might be scratched.
And more importantly… FIRST WORLD COUNTRY. A world were the supply has crushed the demand and therefore the availability of the 8th gen games have made their prices dirt cheap.
However outside the US there might not be that many copies. I’ve seen DS3 to this day going at 30+. With DS2 scholar being the cheap version.
And let’s not start talking about physical games on other consoles. The PS3 games are starting to cost a left leg.

I guess the only downside of playing on last Gen consoles is that you're going to get a laggy online experience if you play with other people. I play a lot of elder scrolls online, and often I travel to my family home where I keep my Xbox One X. Comparing the performance to my series X is night and day. On the Xbox One X, everything is much laggier, FPS is kept at 30, and drops well below that at times. Just because the game supports last generation, it doesn't mean it's the priority anymore. A lot of online games that still run on last generation, especially those released after 2020, will only just barely run.

I don't like e waste so I would personally advise just saving to get the best thing so you can actually enjoy gaming. I wouldnt even give my ex my old xbox one original when she asked to buy it. It ran games horribly. 😂

If Xbox’s strategy was to make everything cheap but durable, that could’ve worked. But the cheap prices are more because of how bad the console reputation has gotten. People want to own the things they buy and use them as long as they want. Xbox has never guaranteed it. PS4 did day one. So did PS5. But as long as it’s cheap now, I can’t complain too much.
Series S made zero sense to me. No UHD Blu-ray. No storage upgrade tyat wasn't stupidly expensive.
I kept my One X put in a two TB SSD from my PS4 Pro and bought a PS5.
Xbox want to go games on subscription only. The only thing they have been consistent at is lying. I was a customer for nearly 20 years.
I have both a JTAG and Xk3y 360.
I back up my games to a library HDD and copy and delete to and from.
I highly recommend getting yourself a modded 360. Even a simple firmware mod of a 360 drive that allows you to run copied games would be a benefit.
