- It’s easy to get trapped in the endless grind of games designed to keep us hooked, but are we actually having fun? I’ve found so much more joy lately by stepping back, simplifying my gaming life, and focusing on the games that truly make me happy. I’ll share some personal stories, talk about the power of older consoles, and encourage you to drop the games that feel more like chores. Life’s too short to play games that don’t bring us joy. #gaming #gamingvideos

"Mindless consumption" is the most accurate possible description for the live-service bubble grinds. My friends can't fathom how I enjoy playing single player games or multiplayer/pvp games without a battle pass or daily/weekly grind.
Exactly! The battle pass fomo stuff is it's own meta game that the designers are perfecting to trap people in a loop. It's AWESOME when a game is ethical, puts player experience first, and is a fun title, but more often than not the last 5 years the scales are tipping way in favor of the publisher and over monetization rather than player experience
@@BBKDRAGOON Multiversus was the final straw for me in terms of live service/battle pass games. How it went from the progression system in its beta to the horrendous predatory scam mobile-app microtransactions in the full release was astounding to me. Really has put me off for life now.
It can also describe just buying every game that's announced or put in front of us as consumers. Especially aaa space where a lot of their games are derivative or very heavy copy paste of each other. AA needs to come back.
Yeah, I feel like when this stuff started popping off was when I abandoned modern gaming. I’ve always been an avid gamer and I love videogames, I just play single player games and often times older games now. I play videogames because I want to have fun and get immersed, not to have my wallet sucked dry
Tell me about it. My friends who play Payday & Counter Strike can't understand why i rather play something like L4D2 that you can just pick up without a progression system.
Its sad how people nowadays think you can only create replay value through a slow levelling system, skins and constant updates rather than just a satisfying gameplay loop or user created content.
For those that are burnt out, I recommend taking a month break, delete everything with a battle pass, delete everything off your SSD. Download 3 games you are dying to play, try indie games, and replay classics.
Best solution there is
Man I dont think I have gone longer than a full week without gaming at least some bit since I was like........6 lol. Good idea though. Luckily I have never paid for microtransactions (bar once on hearthstone and I quickly realised I dont wana go down this rabbit hole) and quickly gravitated toward indies. Indies is where its at mostly for me now.
Classics are nice but I also want to play modern graphics. There are still enjoyable modern games like cd projekt games.
Try playing stalker u guys, I highly recommend it, even if it wont get u hooked, in my opinion more people should atlesst check it out
This is wisdom.
What I really like about older games is that you can play them 20 years later and it's the same experience. Modern live service games can change into something completely different after years of updates.
destiny 2 deleting its entire story to make it f2p slopware
how right you are, these constant updates and FOMO...
@@AngryB4ker First thing i thought about was Destiny 2, I remember buying the game playing the story and really liking it (despite all the negative reviews) Take a long break of the game, wanting to replay the game and the story is gone and some missions are just gone. I was doubting myself, if I installed the right game
Like how myself and many other peoples first thoughts are D2 😂. RIP Red War
they really hold up well i played a few recently and it was a blast
“We’re barraged with services and algorithmic content continually.”
Perfectly put. It’s exhausting. I’m buying a 2DS and going to go back through the older Monster Hunter games and get back to the good old days of gaming.
YO MH4U on the DS is exceptional!!!
I just got into Monster Hunter World and the gameplay is tight. No season pass and all the events are available now. Even if they weren't, I know they'd be back.
I started playing a Black 2 hack called Moemon Blaze Black 2 Redux about a couple months ago (maybe more, I can't remember exactly), and it's surprisingly difficult. Currently stuck on the biker opponent that wants a triple battle just west of Nimbasa City.
I am with you, I'm still finishing several 3DS games before I start hitting up the Switch library. 3DS put out some serious bangers in 2016-2018. Games like Fire Emblem Echoes, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, came out in 2017 so not that old in my book. Same year as Breath of the Wild. I'm still transferring Pokemon from every generation to Pokemon Home on the regular from 3DS Pokemon Bank
a couple weeks ago i took my brothers 3DS and played mh3u for the first time, i played mh tri when i was a kid, i had so much fun
Simplifying naturally happens. Look at the lifecycle of a gamer with a substantial computer upgrade:
0-6 months: Cyberpunk at 4K with all settings max
6-12 months: Half Life 2
12+ months: Browser games with RUclips in the background
tooooo true, i finally got a top of the line pc and i mostly play 2d or older titles now lol
@@Rizzle37iconic and totally true.
@@Rizzle37 same here. got my new rig 12 months ago and i play only retro stuff and old games lol
I don't have a Gaming pc anymore, but we have very good and cheap internet here so I'm using Geforce Now.
After the same cycle of AAA games I ended up replaying Half Life 2 anyway. But now I can play it on almost anything be it smartphone, tablet, old AIO or the Chromecast. 😂
we all live the same fuckin life😂
As I grow older (20s lol) I have really started to appreciate the short 10 hour action packed games i can shut off my mind for. Uncharted is so fun, i want more games like that
Sony exclusives in general are great games. Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War and Ghost of Tsushima are all amazing games.
@@umutyildirim8195 i actually bought a PS4 specifically to play all of them years ago. I wish they'd make another Uncharted. I haven't played God of war actually, I may get it next payday
@@umutyildirim8195would be nice if they would add Uncharted 1 to 3 to Steam smh
@umutyildirim8195 I personally like to play lots of games with the idea of playing series I've missed out on, and also trying games that are new kinds of experiences (I like to find the gems of each genre, even if the genre isn't normally to my taste).
So I create just groups of games to play based on series.
I was a Playstation action shooter + rpg + story games kid, so I missed out on stuff like halo, gears of war, tomb raider, uncharted.
I love going back and seeing the stuff I didn't experience as a kid that were great for other people. I just wanna try everything with the idea that I'll strike gold with some games.
@@umutyildirim8195The problem is that Sony exclusives are now gone in favor of “Call of Duty Modern Black Ops World War 23”
Which is sad because Sony had so many creative exclusives! Ratchet and Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, God of War… Creativity is gone. Now they focus on making the same recycled military shooter…
as a 34 yo gamer who had played his share of MMOs and live service games, i play exclusively single player experiences now
Me the newest game I play is BO3 nearly 10 years old retro gaming far more fun I have every console from Nintendo entertainment system to Xbox one and I love playing old games especially with other people split screen.
This video resonated with me so much, I had the same epiphany a few months ago and it's the reason why I stepped away from Apex Legends and Call of duty. I uninstalled them and haven't looked back. I never realized how much time I was putting into those games. Now I have so much extra free time. It's done wonders for my mental health. This is the best advice I've run across on YT.
Thank you and glad to hear! Yeah I've gone through a pretty similar transition this year. I still enjoy MP games and there are some great ones out there, but there have also been a lot of years where I was forcing myself to just play something and not really thinking about why
I like how you’re able to voice your thoughts without being overly dramatic and emotional like many other videos talking about the same things. It’s like a nice conversation that promotes critical thinking instead of blatant negativity with no actual thought.
Couldn't agree more about the music streaming apps. No licensing issues, no buffering And. No. Ads.
I still enjoy buying physical copies of music and uploading it to my devices.
YESSSS! Getting back into the Ipod Classic has been almost life changing in terms of just showing me how messed up the current streaming era is
@@BBKDRAGOON I use a USB-C DAC for my phone but all my music is locally stored; never have nor will pay for streaming (worse quality and availability than local).
Once you listen to 24/96 through a DAC and headphones that can handle it you're not going back to streaming.
@@deanchur you can stream FLAC though, with certain streaming services. It's just as good as the local hi-res audio.
same here.
I end up making a (local file) playlist of the music content I like from RUclips.
Small creators almost always have their content available for purchase and download.
Big music pushes really hard on streaming and some newer ones don't even give you the chance to download what you have paid for. In that case (if I really like it) I pay for the digital content on some store and download the files from some Jack Sparrow place that has it on high quality.
I try to have a local file of many things I consume via streaming (just in case), including Netflix and the likes. I have paid for it anyways.
2:35 - Some of us never quit using local audio files. We're the ones who always want microsd support in phones.
Yeah when he started talking about spotify and renting music I was like WTF is he talking about? Is it that bad who still haven't left the corporate money farming grounds. Just download the song and listen to it whenever you want a billion times. Literally what is wrong with downloading a song file or ripping it from YT, it's the most easy, most accessible, most cheap method possible yet everyone is convinced that using some lame service is better and it never is.
@@123mandalore777as guilty as I am of it piracy of music like you’re describing there takes the money from the actual artists making the music and stops them earning a living. Generally best to buy the album then import it into local files rather than a RUclips rip, even over Spotify
@@alexdjents6145 Half the music I listen too is video game music, old music from artists who are already either dead or rich, or film scores or stuff people have uploaded on RUclips anyways for free. And remember, music used to be free on the radio and you could record it easily for free there. Artists get their money from concerts. I mean does Ram Jam care that I ripped Black Betty from YT at this point, that band was from before my time on this planet.
@@123mandalore777 Nobody wants to waste hours constantly downloading and organising 1000+ songs from different websites when they can just save that time with a small price per month and get better quality too. It also takes up storage space and limits you to only being able to listen to those songs when you're outside rather than streaming new songs.
@@123mandalore777the easiest way is not always the most ethical
This is absolutely the truth. So much of our modern world is built on keeping you engaged on nothing for as long as possible. The part about owning music and actually having it instead of losing it to a lack of subscription or a sea of other music battling for space in an oversaturated market really spoke to me. As someone who creates music, it pains me to see the death of album art and art books because digital services like spotify and other streaming services limit you to a cover art, title, and meta-data. Old vinyls and album covers have so much personality and when you bought them there was so much more aside from the music. Going back to older games, and actually owning stuff you're paying your hard earned money for is something I'm all for. Excellent video. 👍
Ownership is so key and you are correct, album art has been completely forgotten. Also what kind of music do you create!? That's awesome
Yo just listened to a few uploads on your channel, this is GREAT!

Good message! I’m a gamer in my late 30’s and I can’t agree with you more. I remember a time when game developers prioritized player experience over company profits. Those were the good days. Luckily, there are still a handful of studios who have their priorities straight. ✌🏻✌🏻
For some time now, I've stopped feeling pleasure in gaming. I thought it was because of adulthood, but you made me realize what the real problem is. I have a rig that can run everything in 4K on ultra settings, yet when I come home from work, I end up playing Metroid Fusion on the GBA while relaxing on my bed :D
Install dolphin. Hook up a mayflash bar and a wii remote, play through super Mario galaxy in 4k. It will renew your faith in humanity.
I think the best method to decide if a game is worth playing is to compare how you felt before playing the game and how you felt after. If you feel like the game made it worse, delete that stuff.
That's a solid way to check in to see if you're enjoying it, I like that

I remember playing Final Fantasy XI back in college. Started failing my classes so I quit the game. Told myself I’d never let a game take over my life like that again. Luckily I had my teens and 20s before this live service era. I can’t imagine the level of addiction teens and 20 year olds are dealing with now.
Thank goodness someone understands.
Im back to the roots.
Playing now older 90's games, ps1, ps2, ps3 and nintendo games.
no downloading, no installing, no patches, no internet, no more mindless running in open world...pure fun.
And for multiplayer?...coop couch games with friends.
I hate suggesting spending money as a solution, BUT ever since I bought my steam deck I've dumped hours into games that have otherwise sat for years in my backlog. It has truly been a game changer that has reinvigorated my love for gaming.
I went cold turkey on games for a month and that was enough to help me reset and find the joy in it again. Games are better when you choose to play them, rather than default to playing them. You have no obligation to play that game you used to love that you now kinda hate, you deserve better.
I'm 34 now and remember the PS2 days and earlier very vividly. You just went to a store and rented or bought a game and would just play it. You never had online reviews or streamers telling you how a game was and if it was "worth" playing. You just got it and enjoyed it. People are so overly negative and critical of everything that comes out (sometimes it is warranted) but damn I'm sick of negativity surrounding gaming. I miss just grabbing a game and a couple buddies, some snacks and drinks and just laughing away.
Almost two years ago i managed to break the cicle, i felt trapped by Destiny 2.
It was a literal job, as in I made money "job". As a kid in high-school, being paid to play my favorite game felt like a dream. At first it was so incredibly fun I couldn't believe it was a job. Then the years passed, and I couldn't believe I ever found it fun to begin with.
You perfectly captured the sentiment, it was a routine that made me feel like I had no time for anything else. After stopping I literally did not play a single game for an entire year.
Then I tried Alan Wake, the first installment. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to be genuinely excited to play a game.
PS. Speaking of Warframe, I now love watching my roommate play. I plan to join him one day, the love for space-magic is still there. ❤
Glad you found something new to enjoy.
I put plenty of hours into Warframe as well but eventually burned out. I still keep an eye on the update announcements and consider it a fun game. Maybe I'll come back to it someday
How did you make money playing it?
@@bettybunbun9664 back on ps4 i was into the carry/recov scene, just a group of friends getting people flawless each weekend and sharing the money.

One the best things I started doing with all my media; video games, books, tv shows, etc, is that I will drop them once I stop enjoyng them. Sometimes I come back to them later and enjoy them again, which is great. With such little free time as an adult I can't waste it.

I was thinking about dying light when I opened the video and you nailed it
I was hooked on Destiny 2. Spending hours upon hours every week grinding out content, looking for the perfect stat roll on armor or perk combination on a weapon. Spending money on all the cosmetics. I realized recently that I wasn't actually having fun playing the game anymore, so I uninstalled it.
All of a sudden it's like I'm back to having fun playing video games again. D2 really did turn into a full on addiction. And that's by design. They want you hooked. Invested. And playing nothing else.
I only play it off-and-on anymore (started around Season of Splicer), but I gotta say my favorite expansion (and the only one I actually bought 😆) was Beyond Light. The guy that voiced Variks voiced a character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is pretty cool.
Nintendo switch was the answer to me. Much simpler platform where the first party line up has games that’s sole focus is for the player to have fun
Just bought it. This is absolutely right! 👍
Switch is pretty great. It is entirely built around games in a way no other Xbox/Playstation has been for a long time. And I love how instant the wake from sleep is and the ability to instantly get back into a game right where you were. Makes even Xbox's buggy Quick Resume feature seem slow.
Rog Ally for me :)
Imagine that. Video games that are fun. As opposed to video games that are frustrating and a chore to get through.
I grew up with the original NES back in the early 90s so I have not forgotten how it used to be. I would say the best experience I had as a gamer was in the late 90s and especially in the early 2000s. Experiencing the PS2 in its height as a mid to late teen was something I will never forget.
I wish teens and younger kids in the present day had a similar experience but we all know they all mostly grew up glued to a tablet on their face, scrolling mindlessly or playing some live service game with little to no gain other than quenching the addiction it creates.
That’s why I have always been a proponent for shorter singer player games with enough challenge to make you feel accomplished and long enough that you won’t get bored with it.
The switch is what convinced me to move to PC, sadly because I have such a big library accrued on my Xbox I can't simply I can't simply get rid of my system in favor of investing into a new and better PC
One of the best features of old consoles is no advertisements whenever I boot it up.
Ghostwire: Tokyo and the System Shock remake are two incredible single-player experiences that I go back to when I get tired of the live-service slop. I think you're right! For me, grinding a battle pass makes a game feel less like a game and more like a second job. Taking time for those single-player adventures is always a nice experience!
True that. I love the System Shock remake!
Didn’t like ghost wire. It’s far cry 3 in Tokyo with bad gunplay
Pro tip on enjoying gaming. Avoid AAA trash. Indie games. One more pro tip. Stop trying to beat the game and enjoy the experience.
Agreed, enjoy the experience is key, thank you!
Must admit, I’m guilty of this. It’s almost like I convince myself that I have to finish one game to start playing another so I end up speeding through at times.
Thank you! When i was younger i had a blast playing singleplayer games and the reason was the experience. Sometimes i still catch myself in trying to beat the game rather than enjoying the game to its fullest extend.
THIS!!! It's the journey
Dungeons of Hinterberg is a great example of this.
I'd got stuck in a doom loop of playing a certain live service game every day. Never paid for anything but my gamepass subscription, but still...
Then, just when I was feeling properly fed up, DoH dropped on gamepass, and I spent about a week happily progressing through a game that actively *encourages* you to progress entirely at your own pace, and rewards you for just chilling out looking at the view from a mountaintop or spending an evening making friends with npcs.
Sure, it's not Elden Ring or Balder's Gate, but I felt RELAXED playing it. It was a bit like I was on holiday from the daily grind, which is, I suspect, why the player character is very deliberately ALSO on a holiday from her own daily grind.
I appreciated your reminder that gaming is a hobby. For a few years it's started to feel like "just something I do" ya know?
0:17 my experience with Destiny 2 summed up near perfectly.
D2 had some super amazing eras, but yeah I had to step away after forsaken, it just wasn't hitting anymore
@@BBKDRAGOON what really ruined the experience for me was how D2 changed how exotic engrams worked in that you can only get exotics that you’ve already acquired, unlike in D1 where you could get any one exotic, no matter if it’s tied to a quest or not.
Playing with friends , makes even the dumbest games fun. lol.
I played fortnite forever for my friends and comic relief of the atmosphere.
But eventually I go back to play halo. I enjoy it. Alone, with people. I randomly run into people who nerd out on it, forgers, competitive. People want to criticize where the series is going but at the end of the day, it's hitting the notes it's always had. Super fun.

I've had so many games that I was "just keeping up with the monthly content" that I backed off of and realized I was either massively burnt out on, or the game had changed in some way to make it less fun than I originally had.
Completely agree. I recently got a GameCube. Tony Hawk, Medal of Honor, Monkeyball and Twilight Princess. I wanted to play TP more than anything when I was a kid and for some reason I never went and got it. I’m having such a blast
Same here I bought my GameCube with resident evil 4 and Mario Sunshine a few months back it's been a good time

Few weeks ago I installed private server of WoW (TBC) on my PC and been playing alone. No people, no bots, just that whole big world all for me. And you know what, it's amazing. Been playing as Warlock, soloing, doing what I can in a world created for thousands and thousands of people. And it's been very relaxing, playing the whole game at my own pace and living my own story. Been reading every quest description, every journal, looking at every detail... something I haven't had time when I was playing WoW as MMORPG with other people all these years ago.
half the songs you listen to are off the platform in a month? what kind of music do you listen to?
It usually takes a couple headaches on COD or battlefield or any other online shooter and then I’m instantly back into Skyrim or some old Star Wars game soaking up hours of fun and exploration
Quake 3 is what got me into online multiplayer back in the day. Been having fun playing quake champions when I can these days. Screw the 300 player count, I can still find matches
Thanks for putting what's been on my mind the past year into something concrete. This will help me be more aware of this issue.
This video reminded me of what problem i'm actually going through. Doomscrolling and playing games out of a habit have been dragging me down for so long. I need to get back up and get rid of these bad habits of doing something that does not bring me joy.
Love the nature of your content. I'm one of the few people in my old friend group who actually broke out of the cycle of playing live service games non-stop to pass the time. I now play a lot of indie games and some old AAA games. And every single word you said about feeling like some games are a chore rather than play is true. Thank you for making the video and I hope your content reaches millions of people, because its just that good.
Recently bought the metro trilogy for £7 recently, all 3 games were stellar and real real fun. As well as that the simplicity of being just a good game and not relying on fomo and immersiveness of them was so refreshing
I watched another video recently that talked about how we constantly confuse our desire with compulsion, and I think this is along the same vein. We confuse actually wanting to play with the fear of not playing something out of dumbass rules we inadvertently put on ourselves.
This year I finally decided to start broadening my horizons. I've been getting a variety of indie games and only playing new styles of games. No action rpgs, no fps. I've already found a few of my all time favorite games and have had way more fun than I've had in years.
I love the tonality of this video. It’s kind, it’s caring, understanding, and so damn true. Thanks a lot
This is exactly how i felt about diablo 4, i played for over 100 hrs but really didnt have that much fun. I played Dredge and finished it in 15 hrs and loved every minute.
Nice to see SSX Tricky here. I don't visit my parents very often anymore, being an adult doesn't leave me much time to just step away from work and travel 6+ hours just to go visit, but EVERY time I go back, I HAVE to boot up SSX Tricky on the old Gamecube, and some other games, like Rayman Arena or Soul Calibur 2. The SNES and Gamecube were my childhood and I had the time of my life playing Soul Calibur 2 by myself or running every track in SSX Tricky on repeat and just listening to the music and enjoying the graphics and gameplay. It was so fun.
Much different to the rage-inducing Dota 2, or returning to Genshin every so often to get the new character, or trying the hip new thing like Deadlock. It's not like I never have fun, but it just isn't the same.
Halls of Torment is a recent game that I really enjoy for this reason, 20mins a game, I can put on an album that I love and just enjoy a simple experience

I've had this feeling in the back of my mind for a few years now. Glad to hear it articulated so well in this video.
I've been in a rabbit hole as of late replaying games from the 2000's, and it's been refreshing to play games that really want to show you what developer teams can do with all the new capabilities of the time.
I think this video perfectly outlines why I sometimes ironically say, "There hasn't been a good game release since 2004." Thank god for indie games
I've also been feeling this! I set up a backlog in a bullet journal recently, but I've also been suffering horrific burnout. It's got to the point I'm seriously thinking 'Why is this game on my backlog?' Is it because some influencer told me to, because everyone is playing it, or because I'm genuinely excited? I was recently reminded of what real gaming excitement felt like when the zoi creator demo for Inzoi came out. Most things I add to my wishlist are so mindlessly done nowadays they don't spark any emotion. Silent Hill 2, however - that feels exciting to me and back to 'I can't wait and will buy it day 1' territory.
What did you use to setup your journal?
@@auroraparadox5235 just some coloured pens and a ruler
That's why I love older video games. Games were made with love and with fun in mind, instead of just seeing how much money a company can make off of it
This is a wonderful video and something that I've come to realize overtime as well. Let's not forget how many launchers and accounts you are often required to create before you can play your game. In order to steal your data (if not based in a European country) to stuff their pockets even more.
The best thing about this video is it’s not just for people that play video games. This advice can be followed by anyone who uses modern technology like social media, smartphones, and subscription services. Thanks for making this video, to spread awareness that modern day technology has the most evil business practices that ruin the very “fun” things we love!

Your channel offers something to the gaming sphere that no one else does. You’re appreciated. Keep going!
Too true. Awhile back I took a break from online gaming and went back to games made for its story like death stranding. And it was so…. Freeing. I got genuine joy from start to end that was worth every moment. The story was the best I’ve played in years. Highly recommend
Seeing someone play through Route Kanal brings me such a feeling of warm nostalgia. I remember the first time I played through HL2 on my 13th birthday, no game since has drawn me into its world so convincingly and that mission remains my favourite.
I love JRPGs a lot and they're so easy to just sit down and get lost in the story. Played Trails through Daybreak recently and it was definitely one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in the past few months. And now I'm playing through Baldur's Gate 3 again and I have way more fun playing these games than I would logging into Fortnite and doing my daily chores
As someone who loves to revist or catch up with old games and franchises , i couldn’t agree more.
This is a hobby where if you're not having fun , then you're doing it wrong.
Great video man! I've been thinking this for a looong time and chasing the older stuff for this reason. Thank you for putting it to words so eloquently
What an amazing introduction to a new channel. Im so glad i clicked on this video. I have been watching a lot of gman lately and have been loading up my Legion Go with games i played when i was younger and many others i missed out on because i wasnt an adventurous gamer back then. i gave my brother my ps5 and series s, dusted off the ps2 and hooked that up to my TV. now my kid and i play SSX and stuff like that together. Just how i grew up playing couch co op. It's honestly whats been missing in gaming. Happy to come across someone else in the analog world. Now, to take a break from social media and focus on fun. Thanks for changing the "am i crazy" inner monologue. Subscribing now.
Recently started playing dayz, it's old, simple and great, qucikly turned into one of my favourite games.
So so so true. I felt everything you just said. I always find myself going back for the games I grew up with. Half life being a ritual for me
Recently, ive been more drawn to older xbox 360 games and been having way more fun. Like for example the Tomb Raider Legend trilogy, gta4, red dead 1, max payne, mirrors edge…. The gameplay is so much more simple and actually focused on gameplay, and you can actuallt finish the games and enjoy that aswell.
One modern game development team I fondly appreciate is Hazelight. They may have only two games (Three if you count Brothers), bu the experience they build and offer are so awesome and enjoyable.
I got into driving sim games recently and ended up getting a wheel, I think they’re the only modern games that I genuinely enjoy.
I have been burned out from gaming for a long while, and one thing I love to do is downloading short indie games off itch, playing them for 30 minutes and moving on. Sometimes one is only hungry for an appetiser, not an entire triple course meal.
My dad still plays Battlefield 1942.
Absolute truth bomb video. I woke up from live service games a couple years ago and it’s been splendid. Have already finished 35 games this year, way more than I’ve ever. Right now I play live service a little bit, but it’s for the social activity. Not because I feel pressured to get that event skin or grind to that next rank.
35! Lets go that's awesome!
Facts, thank you. When you said "Lean back into the game that got you started in the first place" I was immediately taken straight back to Crash Bandicoot and the Terminator games, also Shadow The Hedgehog oh my goodness, the PS2 is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.
Recently picked up a PS2 and playing so many amazing games that I missed out on when I was younger. I also love that these experiences aren't 100 plus hour long campaigns that take up so much time. I had more fun playing silent Hill 2 for 12 hours than I do in a modern RPG.
I’ve been playing MWII 2022, and it has honestly been a blast going back. Yes, it’s not that old, but in CoD terms when a game is a year old it becomes old news. But going back to play a game I genuinely enjoyed AND all the FOMO stuff is gone has been a breath of fresh air.
After watching this video i understood that my gaming life is simplified from the very beginning. I never play games which are described here.
I play games for 19 years and my overall hour count in multiplayer games is around 100 hours, not more than 150 for sure. But i play single player games for thousands of hours.
Sometimes i was burned out from it but mostly its fun af. Especially right now because adult life changes everything and i dont have that much time to play something. I always complete games i started and never drop them ( unless they are really bad, but thats really rare because i play only the best games i can find or im really lucky) even if something long awaited releases.
I agree wholeheartedly. I've been leaning towards indie and lesser known titles more and more, and enjoying them a lot.
Yes playing a game as a means to an end rather than playing because you simply want to. I've dealt with this recently.
I’ve been shamelessly diving deep into cyberpunk and I love it. I wanted it for years and finally got it after I got my self a better pc set up. I learned along time ago to stay out of the loop and focus on games I actually enjoy. I grew up always playing older consoles and lower end pc games because I didn’t want to have my parents spend so much money on the new consoles, I understood it was a lot to ask for. I’m so grateful that I grew up that way though, I find I actually enjoy gaming as a hobby more.
Always top tier stuff from you dude! Thanks for the new video!!
Thank you very much!
Nice hearing you talk bout Ipod because this is the way i still listen to music. I hated Spotify from the moment i saw it. Signed for a single month then never again. I like having my songs with me, organized in different Playlists depending on my mood and just listening to the things i really love.
This is how I started playing the games. Fun is the only goal. I ignore all special events, grind incentives etc. I play inefficiently. And enjoy it.
Great video, my man! I haven't found much joy with games in the recent years. I always crave for the older games and such... Coincidentally, Half Life 2 being one of them. So, thank you for some inspiring words and giving me that itch to play Half Life again.
4:00 you said warframe and footage came up just after i screamed at my monitor "WARFRAME". IT IS SOOO GOOOD.
Remembered playing NBA 2k9 at 20 to 25 fps on a very low-end laptop and still enjoying it. Those days were fun!
I recently built a windows XP computer and have started getting games off internet archive or GOG to combat this exact fatigue. Would recommend!
I could say a lot of great things about this video (going back to iPod, reminding us of the idea of mindless consumption (which never even struck me until this video.)). But all I wanna say right now is thank you for reminding me why I love gaming in the first place, it's so easy to forget why I love gaming when I'm overwhelmed having to set a schedule to grind each game and keep up. But to sit back and INVOLVE yourself in a single player experience, is a wonderful and magical thing. I've preached it in the past, but as said it's easy to forget. So, thank you! You've gotten my sub, and I'll be sharing the vid!
love ur videos theyve been super relaxing and pretty helpful these past couple of weeks keep it up dude
I'm currently doing this with Minecraft. It's a game I've never really understood the hype behind but after I found out people have built COMPUTERS THAT ACTUALLY RUN GAMES inside of Minecraft, my peak was interested. It's a nice/chilled out change of pace
I had to cut off multiplayer games when a teenager wouldn’t stop raging in the casual mode of the game I was playing. I had just driven for two hours to pick up my dad from his chemo appointment, and it’s that exact moment - that kid raging over a casual mode - where I realized I outgrew multiplayer. I’ve played a lot of awesome singleplayer games since and I have no regrets.
Your videos always rock. I have been playing different games like indies and going back to the retro style games and more pixel/2D games. I've been having a great time recently. Sure, there is room for triple A titles that are worth it but the indie scene has my heart lately.
Yo good sir. Banger video as always 👍 spot on.
Had my firstborn back in April, which has really transformed my gaming time to have me be very particular in what I play and when I can play. Honestly forgot over all of the years of PvP games that a pause button to come back later is an amazing thing. Been enjoying some deep rock galactic this way.
Cheers!
I rather spend 500 hours on a single player game with achievements and one or two dlcs, than in one that monthly comes a new additional items, dlc, season pass. I mean one SEASON is not one MONTH!
Seriously slowdown, let the updates be four in four months.
Developers have more time (no crunching coding, which is harmful for mental health), casual player is more motivated and involved, and playing the game to KEEP UP does not feel like a chore AND the developers have more time to focus on more important tasks to develop the game further.
Grabbed my DSi and I have been playing so many good games, what a nostalgic feeling.
I agree with you 100%, thank you for speaking what I thought years ago.
Thank you for sharing. A lot more gamers need to hear messages like this.
