Valve is not worth that much.

If Xbox would have bought Steam, I would just give up PC gaming...
That was my immediate first though, "I guess it's GOG for me then"
Cool, now epic is going to buy steam
@@Penguuproduction With what? They couldn't caught up that much money even if they wanted to.
@@PenguuproductionThats worse. I’d quit pc gaming at that point.
Lol. No you won't.
Valve might actually be only worth $16B since Valve is a PRIVATE company. Companies get way more expensive when they go Public - then the share price just keep going up and up and up. That's why usually companies and their execs WANT to go public (but thank god Valve is still private and not a typical corporation). Apparently in that big leak during the FTC case for the Activision blizzard deal, I heard that Microsoft had evaluated Valve to be worth 17B. Nevertheless it's hard to know a private company's value since it's subjective (you don't have a total $ amount like with public companies on the stock market).
6.9
Valve is worth infinite money, the price is undetermined until Gabe puts a price tag on it, if Gabe says Valve costs 7 quadrillion dollars then thats how much Valve is worth
... and finance people who make those valuations actually have better idea what is their profit and expenses, especially when these finance people have data about similar products.
people on internet only estimate the revenue of Valve and think it's crazy profitable business. that 30% take is not profit.
Gaben probably laughed to them
Damn, if xbox can buy valve......maybe they'll buy me....then I'll be fired... Time to freeeeak
That MS Valve Rumour was put out by Valve. I hear Valve are in talks with some big OEM's to ship home PC's with Valves Linux OS and native steam.
That's an idea Valve has got for a long time. They said they want to make other handheld PCs with SteamOS with OEMs first, then, they will consider releasing SteamOS to the public and making desktops
no... The desktop mode on the deck It's awful. to ship as an actual desktop... needs to get the windows level. OR! at least... fix the dolphin file manager to show video thumbs... I'm not joking it's a real problem. (no tweaks no work around, it's just there) jesus I understand why the other companies picked windows. no I'm not a linux hater, I'm just stating the facts
@@netrodex It's likely that we will still need to wait years, before we see a desktop PC with Steam OS. They explicitly said it's tuned to work right with the Steam Deck only at the moment. The next step will be to port it to other similar handhelds, ONLY THEN, they will consider releasing it for the public to install freely.
Right now, it seems that they are not in a rush at all even to make a Rog Ally with SteamOS or something similar
I think the xbox app on pc needs to fix their download speeds first and fix their store front UI
This need to fixed I hate when download is throttle
That's you're internet connection has nothing to do with Microsoft
@@dailingpingwrong it's absolute dog water
xbox app shows its download speed in MB/s instead of the standard Mb/s used by most ISPs!
Example: If you got a 160 Mb/s internet speed as mentioned by your ISP it will be 20 MB/s on the xbox app! Also, advertised speeds by ISP will not always be your exact download speed, adjust for that accordingly! Thank You! 🙃
@@ZooZoo1779 by personal experience it has been much lower than my average speed test then converted to MB/s. 8 bits in a byte 😄 it has been like 6 months since I stopped my game pass- but I was increasingly frustrated installing games to an ssd. Also its a pain in the ass to pause/ or continue downloads when they error out from my experience (that also was not isp related since I could download steam games with no issue and at the expected speed* )
Gamepass just got its price raised not long ago. Are they just going keep raising it every few months until it’s hundreds a month
Love your content!! Thank you for being consistent!❤
COD makes more money off MTs than unit sales. Warzone makes more money than the mainline entries because it's 'free to play'. The evidence is clear that selling the game isn't anywhere near as important and getting people to play it and open up their wallets to MTs. COD on Game Pass shouldn't hurt MSFT at all.
Rather than a buyout, what about some sort of upcoming partnership, to be announced at one of the events next month? Steam on Xbox? A Steam machine with gamepass support?
dont forget about all the CS2 skins and Dota skins they make aprox $54,355,263.16 per month just on Cs2 cases
This rumor has no legs to stand on. Its stupid from just reading the premise alone. Whats more realistic is MS probably in talks with Valve to have some steam intergration (or something along those lines) with Xbox consoles. Not sure on that one either, but sounds way more possible than MS buying for Valve for only 16b xD
Valve makes no money from their games?? Have they not heard about counterstrike 😂😂
I guess what they meant was that VALVe makes no money selling games. And Counter-Strike is free, since you only pay for the in-game content.
@appleleptiker its only free for the basic version, if you want the full game its $15.
So at a rough estimate, Cyberpunk 2077 according to steam charts had a peak player count of roughly 830k players, assuming every person who bought that game paid $60 for it, valve would have made $14,946,966, just from Cyberpunk, there is no way in hell that Valve is worth only $16b. Again just very rough numbers and math.
When I got ultimate a couple years ago it was $11. Now it goes up a feller or 2 twice a year. I rarely even use it but I got ultimate because I have a pile of handhelds and didn’t have an Xbox until recently. I think I’m over it if it goes up again. If it hits $20 that’s $240 a year
Crazy how people can just _say_ things and it becomes newsworthy.
Valve isn’t a publicly traded company, so there are no shares to be bought.
no, but the board members can be.
A lot of underhanded plays can happen.
@@AdmiralBison True, but to give up that level of control over an entire market, I don’t see happening. Plus, no one is going to allow Microsoft to make another large acquisition like that, anytime soon.
@@AdmiralBison Valve is not a traditional company, they have no board members, actually not entirely true, they have 1 board member, Gabe Newell, no one else has voting power at Valve, Gabe holds 100% control, the way Valve works is that there are no bosses, no managers, nothing of the sort, only employees, these employees hold meetings themselves to discuss things, utopia on paper, until you realize these employees also hold meetings on who should be fired and get pay raises, then it becomes a popularity contest, you could be the best dev ever but if people dont like you for whatever reason, goodbye, your gone. Valve as a company is more akin to a frat house, the people who talk the loudest and can convince the most people to rally behind them hold the power. Though not real power over the company, that still only lies with Gabe
@@flamingscar5263 You know, that would totally explain why games are so slow to come out, but also why the games that eventually make it are so totally lit and awesome.
They epitomize both words in the phrase "creative chaos"
Valve is the market if they play their cards right and don't sell out
Subscription services, "You will own nothing and be happy".
Are you happy?
A lot of people that just want to play a few games per month, and then move on to other games... they are.
Because they don't care. And people that can't afford multiple 60-90$ games per month are also happy about that.
Which makes no sense to me but whatever.
Hi
Tinfoil hat theory.
MS Corpos pretending to care about gaming to try get a piece of steam.
Break steam to break proton to break linux gaming.
Drive people back to windows.
Takes hat back off.
Thats why ms is porting games, yes.
There’s no way they’d be able to get far. Microsoft has been doing straight up monopolistic behavior within their business for the last few years. If they’re going to pull any of that off, they’ll be hit with an antitrust lawsuit.
editors.. music @4:37 are a bit too loud.. or i might say a little bit distracting...
They should focus on listening to the fans like for example add mod support to fh5 and they shoupd look at other games like gran turismo and make it similar
Gabe would never let this happen.
I’m gonna call my idea “headaches with pictures” from now on. Thanks Matt 👍🏻
Valve distributes millions of games a year and their 30% is mostly profit. Yeah, it'd sell for a lot more.
30% cut for distribution? That sounds extremely high.
@@dusermiginte4647 That's what Austin said at 1:05 so I am taking him at his word.
@@danabell2709 its worth $6.9B but I like it so lets sell for alot more?
@@dusermiginte4647 I think you need to reach a specific amount of profit before VALVe takes 25%.
Random info love it
let's talk numbers, there is roughly 73k games on steam and imagine with me by average 100k players per game (I know it seems odd but run your imagination here) so 73k x 100k = 7.3B multiply by 20$ "average" = 146B, take 30% which is 43.8B that's for sales only (again speculation not real) and the whole company is worth 16B ?
VALVe is a private company.
That automatically means that they're worth less.
Id totally play wow with yall 😂😂
they are partnering with xbox though i know that to be true for over exactly 16bn so yeah since they are not buying them because a. valve is a private company and b. valve is willing to partner with xbox now for the 16bn
Ain't no way valve gonna go get bought by anyone. It basically doesn't even have competition
Wow
According to Forbes, Valve only have a net worth of $6.9B as of March 2024
People forgot they tried to double xbox live price lol
But they never went through with it. Unlike Playstation which charges $80 for BASIC ONLINE. That's absolutely bonkers to me.
@corey2232 They still tried to do it, doesn't mean they won't try again and people will accept it or reject it.
@@corey2232 You forgot that there are options besides 12 months and that you get 4 games every month, that will be permanently added to your account... And that Microsoft only charges 20 bucks less.
But other than that, true I guess.
@@corey2232 80 for a year. PS plus essential is only 9 dollars a month. Xbox Gamepass Core cost 9.99 dollars per month. So they are just as cheap.
PS Plus premium is the same as xbox gamepass will cost 16 dollars but then again they have a 12 month sub that makes it a little cheaper per month. Think it's like 13 dollars if you buy the 12 month version. But yes i wish xbox had a 12 month version of Gamepass Ultimate
Valve is private. I bet they're ACTUALLY worth 100B easily if it goes public
😂😂
Easily 2892929299 trillion fantasillions!
@@dusermiginte4647 Their profit margins must be insane. Their IPs are also worth a lot of money probably (DOTA, CS, Half Life,Portal, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead etc.). Then they have steam deck. Steam Marketplace. Valve Index VR Headset.
Steam itself is worth so much because at this point, it is proven that Steam is almost irreplaceable. Those who try, like epic, uplay, origin, and gog, they all fail to overtake Steam.
Then you look at hype, almost nobody hates valve, and so if they actually do go public, they would have an insanely inflated valuation from that point, and I bet that valuation would reach 100B easily.
WoW
Nobody knows whats going to happen its all opinions and assumptions. What we do know is that steam will be integrated into the next xbox and thats it.Nobody in these comments have the slightest idea about what any of these companies will do or what deals they may or may not have in place. We are all gamers and spectators so sit back and enjoy the show so who knows what the future holds 🤷♂️

This is hilarious because there was literally a story over 15 years ago where Microsoft tried to buy valve and steam and Gabe laughed in their face. He stands to make more money owning steam. Also he hates Microsoft since they fired him back when he developed windows 1, 2 and 3 he was fired during 3 which is also the running joke as to why he never makes a third anything.

This sent chills down my spine.
It makes more sense if Valve makes a full fledged Console. It would kill immediately the XBox.
given valve heavy focus on linux and steam deck, the last thing they want is to be bought by ms. So just from that alone the rumour doesn't make sense
It will happen at some point and fanboys will cry
If you just play 1 or 2 games on gamepass it’s not worth it. But if you play a lot of the Indy games ea games etc it’s way worth it. $200 a year and I play every bit of 60-100 games a year off gamepass. And if the game sucks you’re not out anything.
If you can only find 1 or 2 games to play on Game Pass in 12 months, you shouldn't be subbed.
I have trouble limiting myself to 5 games a month, let alone a year. The best aspect of Game Pass is discovery & trying games you otherwise wouldn't have paid for, which is why I pay for PC Game Pass.
Bo, bo2, bo3, bo4, bo: cold war, bo6
Problem with cod on steam deck you have boot into windows to play cod on steam deck with online play
Valve ? what have they done that's any good ...
Thanks to the Xbox All Access Program I havent had to pay for Gamepass in the last 3 years and still won't have to pay until Dec. 2025. I got the Series S through it and then I got the Series X through it as well so that gave 2 years of Gamepass Ultimate from both consoles. So even if they increase the price I'm still good and don't have to pay a thing.
Wait, when did they change that program?
When they started it, your monthly price also included some specific amount of game pass in the monthly payment.
End of the month. Gotta get those engagement numbers up. Let’s put out some total bullshit that is based on a falsehood from one guy on the internet. Great job team.
The csgo skin market alone is worth over 3 billion dollars 😂

Is HUGE News
Mi uncle who werx 4 Nintendo sas thae r buying Capcom AND Microsoft.
Valve was created to get off the leash of the Bill Microsoft failure field. Doom was the best selling software on UniX not windows and that was a major influence on Gabe newells decision making to leave Microsoft. He's given talks on this, valve tolerates Microsoft but they don't want them or their money.
The logic is flawed. If they get the game on game pass and play it like they normally would make between 120-180 per person that does this. Plus they might try more Xbox games which creates more sales opportunities.
The only money they are missing out on are for the people who have game pass and would've bought the game. So it's no risk upfront money or some risk with more money long term. It's a no brain for me if I was in charge.
They bet the brand on game pass. If they backtrack now for some up front money they will never recover from the brand DMG. Google does that "I quit in 3-5 years if I don't immediately make bank" bs and that's why they have launched a good product in about a decade.
Double down. Live by game pass and die by game pass.
After taxes it becomes $18 so it is. It's $16.99 before and $18.17 after taxes.
If they raise the price for a game i will never play, i will drop gamepass. I'm not going to pay for (for me) uselessness. Nope.
You can't stop wow austin it's every where
Also it wouldnt be approved because it would be a monopoly of the pc gaming market . So it couldnt be approved even if they tried .
.
They should.
Do people just forgot that Gabe Newell worked at Microsoft for years he championed gaming on Windows when Windows was known as a glorified file manager he and a few of his peers are the reason that Windows is the gaming power house it is today. I pretty much guarantee that people from Microsoft some of his old friends even may have contacted him in private likely multiple times about offering to buy his company and his likely answer has always been a resounding NO!
.
Same thing was said about Activision 😳😳😳🤔🤔. Don’t be so confident
It don't matter what price point they put on it they can put $30 and we still going to pay for it just like we pay for Amazon Netflix and every other subscription service so stop acting like if Microsoft up the price we won't buy it
Valve would be worth at least twice as much as Activision
Valve.
Market cap. $3.2B
Net worth. $6.9B
Activision.
Market cap. $74.28B
Valve is worth more than Activision.... Nooooohohoho noooooooo
🤯 I can't believe yall think the highest selling game every year is not gonna lose any money by putting COD on gamepass a subscription service while missing out on millions of possible game sales for $70 a pop... Is this how all gamepass gamers think???? 🤔
They didn't say it will NEVER lose money listen carefully kid

Its called strategy kid.
Another reason that Valve would never be bought by MS. Gaben LEFT MS to form Valve because of his distaste with the direction MS was taking their products, especially Windows. He would never greenlight selling his legacy to the company that has led him to kneejerk the most and make a whole Linux distro to combat and develop Proton to make gaming on Linux easier. The BEST they could do is collab as they suggested, maybe buy a small minority stake. But they never will be able to buy MS.
.
Valve ain't Selling Steam, pretty sure as long as Gabe is around won't sell.
It will be a disaster if Steam is ever sold, especially to a company like Microsoft.
Steam is basically the best games store on PC.
Its not the best its just the most popular. DMM is pretty good and so is GOG
It's amusing that people value Valve based on emotion. Advice, don't ever trade stocks. It's probably good that they aren't public, lot of people would get rekt.
Gabe net worth is assumed to be $4b and couple of years ago, it was said he owns 1/4 of the company (he owned 1/2 ten years ago), so it makes sense that Valve is worth $16b.
Very few 400 people companies cost more than $16b, only some crazy startups. Game developer/distributor can cost more, but then they are much bigger. Like Epic Games, which has 10x more employees and is valued $32b.
Steam, just like OnlyFans/Patreon, has inflated revenue numbers. Everything they sell, counts as revenue and they distribute part of that to sellers.
The 30% that Steam keeps isn't profit. That's profit before the expenses. Steam is not just some store website, they are content distributor, they have large storage/hardware and bandwidth costs.
Microsoft should have thrown 100 billion + on the table, assuming the minds of the people at Microsoft right now weren't so deep in the gutters. But it don't matter even if microsoft do sweeten the deal to 100 billies, that deal ain't going through. Microsoft already had a very hard time getting the other 70 billion dollar deal to go through.
.
They should port WoW to Xbox. Mouse and keyboard required.
Who's here to talk about WoW?
Microsoft also tried to buy Nintendo.
They are going to actually buy either
Makes no sense. Xbox is becoming a game service, Steam is a game platform. What would buying Steam do for them? They could just allow Steam on Xbox which would drive more sales
Good cause of they did, I'm trading gaming for skydiving. I don't want to be under the Xbox nefarious game pass/umbrella. Microsoft has only hurt the industry with their greedy decisions.
Did you just diss soda i drink a coke once a month its gd shit don't diss soda my gay ben just don't gay ben

Game Pass natively on Steam Deck would be a sure thing. I would get it day one.
Hell no. Its already failing now. Expect gamepass to not be a thing very soon under new leadership.
@NostraSamus What new leadership? PC Game Pass was good for $10. I just don't use Windows; I use Ubuntu mainly, so.
@@justinseans Satya and Sarah Bond will be making the big decisions now. Phil did not convince Microsoft that he can get Xbox out of the red. Trust me, a lot of changes are coming.

Yeah, I want to play Steam games, like, Breakneck, on my Xbox
Remember when sony tried buying it and failed
I love the parrots in the comments who keep spouting how "steam makes 10B a year" as if Microsoft couldn't possibly affort that.
Microsoft makes that much in about 3 weeks guys. They make 200B a year. They're worth 3 TRILLIONS. With a T. If they want to buy something they can and will.
And then close it down and tweet about how much you need more games like the ones made by the studio you bough and then closed down...
I dont think they will buy it partners yes buying it no after tango backlash seems Microsoft would hold there horses
Based on recent events Microsoft would destroy Valve and it would plunge PC gaming back into the dark ages.
This will not happen and must not 😢 Microsoft will simply close steam as one of there last remaining true competitors ❤ imagine the thousands of games you would lose access to 😮
I don't think it would close it. They would most likely put down the SteamOS project, but they would keep Steam on windows going, and slowly but surely gobble it up in the Microsoft store.
Anyway, the chances of Microsoft buying Steam are quite insignificantly low. Valve is a private company, with no shares to be purchased. They would have to convince Gabe first (who doesn't look like he's willing to sell shit) and the antitrusts then.
It would be a uphill battle for Microsoft
That's the funniest joke I've ever heard
Don't say deadlock is successful if it hasn't even come out yet. It's most likely going to be dead on arrival since valve doesn't know how to make games.
Half Life, Portal, Counter Strike, TF2, Left 4 Dead
xbox buying steam? valve will be closed in 5 years max
One could only hope, get rid of pc lower race
I'd be willing to throw a couple of duckets on that if it was a betting man.
Better than google buying Valve 😂
What, valve is not selling steam
It would be the end of pc gaming.
I can't afford internet
Lol
With all the money in the world, Nintendo still laughed in Microsoft’s face.
Steam: Exists
Xbox: "If I can buy that, I can put the games on gamepass. After that I dont need valve anymore because Gamepass will skyrocket!"
Matt talking about WoW is better than constant Pokemon or z-flip from Austin. If Matt stops taking WoW, then Austin should have to give up one of those, if not both (or be censored + fast forwarded like y'all do to Matt).
Have said it elsewhere, but will say it again here. Consoles are just weak PCs with countless features disabled and inaccessible. Oh right, and you cant upgrade them with up to 4 16TB hard drives (more or less depending on your desktop) and a few big memory chips (currently got two 64GB sets. Which takes all four slots but its worth it)
Consoles are weak, decrepit, and will only succeed with exclusives. Thats why Sony has beaten both Sega and now Xbox in the console wars, and why Nintendo has already taken first place with everyone else fighting for third.
Valve should buy Xbox and fix everything
Thank you, stupid gullible internet, for believing that crap enough for me to get a 16 min video from Matt and Austin out of it!
