Really appreciate how much you've been emphasizing the village ideal for raising children lately (not to let parents off the hook for their responsibilities of course, but to broaden the division of labor between more than just two parents). I really think Ezra Klein from the NYT would be a great guest to have on the podcast for this very subject.
I would love to hear Kirks' thoughts on Kendrick Lamars album, Mr Morale and The Big Steppers. It's an absolutely phenomenal album about trauma and going to therapy as a man.
I agree with your concerns surrounding the Heroes Journey idea. However, how does it differ from the virtual sessions described by Better Help? Have you done research into the problems associated with that organization as well? I only mention Better Help since I've seen you sponsor them very recently as there have been many ethical concerns brought against that organization. Like your points against Heroes Journey are valid, but it just seems a bit hypocritical that you'd bash them while supporting something like Better Health.
I stopped all my meds when I got pregnant 9 years ago. Thankfully, I hadn’t had any hypomania episode since, but I do struggle with my ADHD. So, the last psychiatrist I saw for ADHD medication told me that he won’t give me stimulants to treat my ADHD without putting me back on my bipolar meds. I and said “I don’t need bipolar meds, I’ve cured my bipolar by now” and he said “that’s what all bipolar people say” hahahaha But it’s true, I’m in remission lol I did go back on my mood stabilizer but it gave me anxiety for some reason, so I stopped again and I’m untreated for my adhd. All I have is therapy 😃
I had a personality change at 28. It's a long story but 3 days in the hospital with blown pupils and vertigo but all my tests were "negative". I felt different after and I knew it, I told people my give a shit died. They should have taken that seriously bc now I no longer have any communication with them. They are "loving of all people" but use slurs. Well my queer, neurodivergent, and trans kids and I are quite happy without them.
