I love this lens for landscap, chopper and bird. Easy to carry and easy to used ❤
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have it and use it a lot. Love this lens!
Good to hear Lorena! Gracias!
Bought this when it first came out and very pleased with it. Shooting at battle re-enactments, gets right to the meat, the stabilisation with my T3 is excellent and for 4k video and being able to crop in it gives excellent extra reach for cricket matches too. I find the focus can take some getting at times, in situations when there's not much contrast betwixt subject and background it sort of gives up and goes on holiday! With my T3 set up it doesn't work brilliantly well for tracking motor sport or fast moving objects. Also use it with the the 1.4 converter (minimum f8) and in good light there's no discernable image quality deficit. I've just been trying out the ishoot IS-XF5520 tripod mount ring (which also fits the XF55-200 hence the name) and that works well so far.
Thanks for this post. I'm not ready to buy anything yet, but I'm trying to discern which zoom would be best for sports, including motor sports. I'd love to have the 50-140, but that's just not gonna happen financially. Any thoughts about the best choice that doesn't break the bank? Maybe the 55-200?
Always plenty of life in the 55-200!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Martin, very interesting! I'll be looking at that mount ring now too.
Have it since 2020. It is a gem for that price.
Brilliant!
Hi Damian! Thanks for your review. I have this lens. Super versatility. An always -in-my-bag lens. Stabilization is really great.
Thanks Peter!
@@DamianBrown 🤗
I have this. I sold my 55-200 awhile back, and replaced it with this one. It pairs nicely with the 18-55 and a couple of primes for my travel kit. Looking forward to using it on trips this year! All the best
The legend that is Thomas!!!! Good to hear from you. Hopefully see you on the road!
@@DamianBrown French Alps, Northern California incl. Lake Tahoe, and New Orleans. I may weigh 5kg more when i get home. Cheers!
i bought this lens for my daughter and she loves it for birding :-) she doesn't use the manual focus ring which is jus as well!! I thought it was broken but it seems they're all like that!
Ye after thought I reckon. I don't use it anyway
Nice review Damian, Yes, the 70-300 is an excellent lens!
Agreed!!!
Great review (as always), convinced me its time to let my 100-400 and 50-140 go - they are stunning lenses but I just never use them due to the size/weight. Maybe I also give up my 55-200 too, and move to the 70-300 as my one zoom (with the existing tele convertors I already own)
Sounds like a plan! I think if something isn't getting used, it doesn't matter how good it is. Plus you won't need the 55-200 either. Win win I think!
@@DamianBrown do you have any comments on the 70-300 Vs 55-200 besides the obvious extra reach of the 300. Size, weight, image quality?
dream lens ....(((!!!!
The stabilisation is great for a locked off composition, but very jerky on panning. The manual focus ring is awful, but I don’t often feel the need to use it! I would say it’s the lens I’d use least in the XF lineup for professional work
Thanks for your experience!
I have this lens and I like it. It's a little prosaic, not much magic, but it does what it says on the tin. My only problem with it is that you will lose focus completely if you accidentally breath on the zoom. I believe Fuji recently fixed this problem with a bunch of different zooms but neglected this one, mildly infuriating...
Very good point Thomas!
Hi Damian, I bought this lens a year or so ago. Quite pleased with it. I used it a lot at the Womad music festival last year, including some video work. Good results. Be interested to know how it works with a converter.
Brilliant Michael, sounds like a great lens for that festival!
Great photo! It would be nice to have EXIF data so we could get an insight into the camera settings. Know that putting them on the video is a lot of work. How did you set stabilization in the camera for the lens, there are 4 options on my camera Fujifilm XT-20. There is no stabilistation on this camera. I have some problems with blurry images with my fujinon XF70-300.
Thanks for a great review!!
Thanks a lot Erik! I have considered the settings but as you say, it's a lot of work. I shall continue to think about the idea though.
@@DamianBrown It may be You can automate the transfer of the EXIF data to youtube photo, it may be it is possible?
The 70-300mm is a lens I would accept from Tamron, not even from Sigma, but not from Fujifilm.
As the 150-600mm has much too much reach when shooting soccer or american football for 50% of the time, the 50-140mm has not enough for 80%... the 70-300mm would be a great option, but the AF performance of the 70-300mm isn't up to the task and I prefer lenses with internal zoom. The 100-400mm was just disappointing when looking at the rendering of busy backgrounds, sharpness and hit rate.
Fujifilm lens lineup is far from being great for sports or wildlife. And no promises at the horizon.
Not sure any company will make promises in this climate and from a business stand point but it's always been an area they've needed to improve on. So let's see what happens!
Great Lens apart from bokeh. I would still buy it again but maybe with more money the 50-140 would have bought me a bit more
I own the 50-140 for pro work. Different league that's for sure but second hand you can get it not that far off the retail price of this one.
