- 📸 First Impressions of the new FUJINON XF70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR! I got my hands on this lens for a short time as a loan, and I have to say, it’s impressive right out of the box. The build quality is solid, and it delivers sharp, stunning images. Whether you’re into wildlife, sports, or just need that extra reach, this lens could be a great addition to your kit.

I’ve just found your excellent review of the Fujinon 70-300mm lens. It’s the best review of this lens that I have seen to-date. I think the real time presentation worked really well and I think you’ve given me enough information and confidence to purchase this lens. I’ll now subscribe to your channel. Many thanks.
wow many thanks... sisnse i made this i now own one i bought one and i use it a LOT
i replaced my 55-200mm with the 70-300mm and no regrets. its an awesome lens
i bought the 1.4 converter for it, but eventually sold it again. the 40mp sensor of my x-t5 allows enough cropping, so that the teleconverter is no longer needed.
i have now done the same, and good job i leant my 55-200 to a friend and he will not return it
Great review of a great lens. I’ve had the 70-300 & 1.4x TC for about a year and absolutely love this combo. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever taken the TC off. It’s great for wildlife, and even with it’s rather limited aperture, particularly with the TC, in good lighting conditions I’ve been able to take shots up to 1/2500, albeit at quite high ISO, but with incredible apps like DXO Pro Raw 3, and Topaz DeNoise, high ISO isn’t the problem it was a few years ago. I will mention that the image stabilisation supposedly automatically turns off when the lens is mounted on a tripod, although I can’t personally attest to that as I’ve never used it on one.
i bought one now i use it A LOT
I suppose you could use the 16/80 and the 70/300 as a 2 lens set up..
the 16-80 is not very sharp but you do have a good point
throw in the 10-24 and you have an enthusiast holy trinity!
just clearing some old replies i have missed sorry i did not respond
The 70-300 is phenomenal lens. Anyone on the fence should go ahead and pick one up.
thats sounds good advice
If only I could find one...

Padley Gorge is my go to place for walking and taking photo's.
Was just looking for a video about this lens and came across this video and suddenly thought i know that rock :)
I didn't realise you could use this lens with a tc so thats a bonus.
100% yes i now use it as my go to long lens
I have this lens and its absolutely brilliant
yer its very good
Good to know. I would love to get this lens for my X-S10.
just clearing some old replies i have missed sorry i did not respond
Recently got this one, very happy with it for wildlife and also landscape.
its very good
Excellent review. Considering trading up from my 55-200 to the 70-300 to gain a little more reach, but at no added weight or bulk, weather resistance, better stabilization, similar IQ (I cannot really see the IQ differences in the video so will take your word for it) and a newer design. I am told, but cannot confirm, that at 200mm, the 70-300 is at f5, which is virtually the same as the 55-200 at 200mm being f4.8. Waiting for my favourite retailer to get one in stock (in the UK) and give me a quote for the cost of change before deciding.
Sounds good I am mot sure but when it comes to wait yes
I just love my 50-140 so much
Waiting for a 70-300mm + the 1.4x to arrive actually, great video😅😅
Hope you enjoy it! i have one now i like it alot
Excellent and informative review. Thank you Paul. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
perfect review, just what I was looking for. Cheers Paul 👍🏻
mate glad it was helpful
Nice overview Paul. I have got my eye on buying this lens to compliment my X-S10 & 15-55mm f2.8-4 lens. It's a bit frustrating that there is no O.I.S switch on the actual lens like my 18-55, I find it easy to switch on/off when I go from handheld to tripod shooting. Also, that 15mm gap; I would probably get a nice Fujifilm prime such as the 60mm f2.4 macro or 56mm f1.2 lens. Finally, I don't know if you have noticed but Fujifilm has updated their Lens Roadmap to include a brand new 150-600mm lens in 2022!
i would like to see a switch it is not good when shotting on a tripod,
Thanks for your thoughts. I've been on the fence about this one.
hope this helps
@@paulcomptonpdphotography very much helps! Thanks.
welcome
A very good vid. Paul, you say it as it is no bull sh.t like some channels
Absolutely always mate
Hi Paul
Very nice review and comparing between lenses. Keep up the good work👍😄
I now have one and its ace
@ 01:27 - “That’s What She said ! “. 😯 😂 He has had it for weeks on short term loan, and not taken it out? Wow!
Great review and insight Paul. Stay safe
i bought my own now use it a lot
For no gap between two lenses the 16-80 and 70-300 work great for me.
the 16-80 is just not that good.. (mine is'nt)
@@paulcomptonpdphotography I use mine for landscapes so for that it is great stopped down around F8.
mine is not as good as the 18-55
Very nice real time demonstration👍
Glad it was helpful! keep it honest. i have to say i have just used this in the Faroe Islands after buying one and its a great lens..
@@paulcomptonpdphotography i am in a dilemma which zoom lens to buy. Either 50-140 mm or 70-300 mm. What is your advise. Once I buy 70-300 mm i can't go for 50-140 mm. That's holding me to buy 70-300 mm. Thank you
what do you want to use it for, i have both..
@@paulcomptonpdphotography i want to shoot mainly for landscapes and also associated portraits. But I am looking for sharpness. Do you suggest to go for a separate portrait prime lens along with 70-300mm ?
the sharpest lens Fuji make is the 50-140 WOW its good... the 70-300 is less money still a good sharp lens and you can get in close, but i would go 50-140 if you want to shoot portraits, the 2.8 all the way is diamond.. Fujinon XF 50-140 amzn.to/2zEHrJZ
Interestig video Paul. I've got the 70/300 also but I only use it for sports and some wildlife. Glad to see it on a tripod. Keeping it still free hand at 300mm is a challenge.
Thanks 👍 you should be fine, maybe some more practice i have done lots of sport with long lenses
I have the XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR and had hoped you would have tested the 1.4x TC on that lens aswell.
Ok so when i made this video i said i would not buy one, well i have and i have used the 1.4x as well since. its all great i use the laens now as my main zoom...
You could get the XF 18-135mm to cover everything from the wide angle to mid-telephoto. There's also the OIS switch right on the lens.
i have the 18-135 but its not good enough to replace the others.. i now own the 70-300 and love it
The 18/135 would overlap nicely and is also a nice light, sharp lens.
I had this this same comment from another and i said i would if was any good, its note the sharpest of lenes.
@@paulcomptonpdphotography My 18/135 is pretty sharp but then all lenses perform around a range of variation; you can just be lucky/unlucky with the actual one you get.
I have to agree mine is just not good enough to be my main lens where as the 16-55 is best its to heavy and the kit 18-55 is so good
great video again Paul, im in 2 minds of getting the 300mm or the 400mm, but think im going for 300mm for the weight.
Good choice! its sharp and very much smaller and lighter
The minute you handle the 100-400 is when you know that you need the 70-300!
just clearing some old replies i have missed sorry i did not respond
I already own the 50-140 and have been torn on getting this 70-300mm or not. Today I picked up a used 1.4x TC in excellent condition from Adorama for under $400USD. So - I've decided to get the TC to add to my 50-140mm, which of course is not a bad decision in any sort. Bottom line - I've heard the new 70-300mm is faster AF and "sharper," but I'm not sure if that is true. Maybe one day I will get the 70-300mm for a lighter option (and if it has better aspects). What do ya think??? I use XT4.
I have to say my 50-140 is one if the sharpest if not the best i have ever used..
@@paulcomptonpdphotography I'd have liked to have seen the 50-140 with the T/C in comparison with the naked 55-200 and 70-300 lenses. Nice presentation, thanks Paul.👍
Sorry missed these old comment replies
4:32 "It would also help to take the lens cap off 'cos your pictures look a lot nicer like that" Hahaha I think this sums up nicely why many people love your videos Paul! I would say that being yourself and remaining totally unprofessional should be what makes your channel unique and is what will make you stand out from the crowd. I think that will ultimately make you more popular.
We are all just as unprofessional as you are so we all relate to you.
It does! but i also have a smaller following because of it haha
@Paul Compton PDphotography How do you know it’s because of that? It could be more to do with things like the length of your vlogs than how professional you are. That’s one of the things I need to chat to you about as I have a suggestion in this regard.
it is mate most people switch off my videos in under ten mins haha
I bought this lens after seeing your review. But I face focusing issues while I was shooting. I mean I am not able to focus for quite a bit of time after repeated trying it’s focusing. Why? How to fix this. Is there any problem with the lens? Please explain. Thank you 🙏🏽
Hello, this lens i had was a loan lens from Fui only had it a week, since then i have now bought one. I have just been to the Faroe Islands and used it every day and since i have been back i have not had any issue as yet. Please let Fuji know i am sure they will take a look at it on warrenty
@@paulcomptonpdphotography I will do that. Thank you for the advise.
you welcome
Excuse me, when the XF70-300MM lens is shaken, will there be strange noises inside??? Thank you
i cant aswer that i dont have the lens no more
Yes. It is the mechanism inside. Do not shake it. It’s completely natural.
just clearing some old replies i have missed sorry i did not respond
Thank you Paul.........
your welcome
Which lens was attached to camera at 13:42
OK so now i own a 70-300 and i have to say its anmazing
Amit, it looks like the 10-24mm lens
love the 10-24
To get over the "gap" this would probably be best suited paired with the newer 16-80mm.
16-80 is not that good enough
@@paulcomptonpdphotography Surprised at that!! I bought it after some very positive reviews and I am very happy with it. I have 18-35 on one fuji and the 16-80 on aother and they are both exellent in my eperience. The 55-200 goes well with the 18-55 and I was looking at the 70-300 to pair with the 16-80
It not a bad lens at all I just think it's not as good as the 18-55 as sharp
