    Love this lens, lightweight, great image quality and good for taking out all day and not feeling tired. Have used for bird photography and air shows plus general landscape. Totally good all round lens.

    I have the Tamron 18-300 and the Sigma 18-50. Was thinking of getting this to replace the Tamron and eliminate the duplication. The Sigma is much nicer to carry around for many days, but sometimes reach is required. The Tamron is silent but perhaps softer than what you showed with the fuji. Hard to tell.
    Great review -- Thanks.

    This is a stellar lens. As long as I own a Fuji body, I will never sell it. Is it perfect, absolutely not. The bokeh can be busy and onion-ringy and it’s not suitable for low light. However, for the weight and focal range, WR, aperture ring, etc. it’s a solid package of well-considered trade offs.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  6 месяцев назад +1

      I completely agree. The weight is totally manageable and the image quality is fantastic.

    I have one and I love it. Since I switched to fuji I only have 1 prime , sigma 30mm f/1.4 and 1 zoom the 70-300mm. I'm traveling to Portugal next month and thinking if its worth taking the 70-300mm, considering weight, changing lenses and bringing attention

    This is super helpful! I only use primes, and can you believe have never even tried a zoom?! But I want to use this lens for Alaskan wildlife. Can I set the aperture to 5.6 so when I zoom the aperture won't change? And, do you zoom in and out manually? Thankful for such a cool place where I feel comfortable asking basic questions.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  5 месяцев назад +1

      If you set it to 5.6 it will stay the same throughout the zoom range. And yes, you do zoom it by hand. Thanks for the kind words!

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  5 месяцев назад

      I’ve never used that Tamron lens so I can’t comment. In my experience wide ranging zooms usually make great lenses for well-lit vacations.

    I really loved this lens until I decided to use it on a tripod to try and shoot anything at night. It was a totally calm night with no wind at all and even at 'quick' exposures of 2 or 3 secs, using the 10 sec timer, 95% of my shots came with shaken results. That aiming at light streets, non moving objects. Since you cannot turn off the internal stabilization of this lens, it seems it is always trying to compensate for a movement (maybe even the shutter actuating - XT2). I get much better results with this lens hand held, even as low as 1/8 of a second. Is there any way of solving this?

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  10 месяцев назад +1

      Ouch. I didn’t know you couldn’t turn off the stabilization. Seems like something that could be easily addressed in firmware.

    •  10 месяцев назад +3

      @@KevinDeal Thanks for the answer. I searched into my camera menu and disabled the IS (which my XT2 cam. does not have, so it should be for the lens). It worked perfectly now with the tripod! Just sad Fuji says it 'recognizes' it is on a tripod, but it simply doesn't. Anyway, great lens all in all! Cheers from Rio!

    Looks great, but I don’t think I would need anything with that much range, or take advantage of the extreme tele lens. What’s the smallest, quality lens for the X mount that covers the medid tephoto range - like 50 -150mm? Consistent max aperture is a plus. Any rumored new releases?

    • @MRatna
      @MRatna 10 месяцев назад

      *medium

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  10 месяцев назад +1

      that perfect lens doesn't exist yet because of physics. The 50-140 2.8 is the best in terms of everything but price and size. If you want to go smaller you have to concede a variable aperture.
      That limits you to
      55-200 f3.5-f4.8
      70-300 f4-f5.6
      I faced this exact same decision and that's why I opted for the 70-300. I own a 17-70, so it made sense for me to get a zoom that started at 70 as a continuation of my zoom range.

    • @jodyb1095
      @jodyb1095 7 месяцев назад

      Have you taken a look at the 16-80? It's a bit outside the range you're seeking but it's got the constant aperture and it's reasonably priced.

      @@KevinDealI use the same lens paired with XT5 and as this lens doesn't have an aperture ring, during video I always need to use front command dial for the aperture. But it always starts from f22. Is there any settings to reverse this so that it always starts from f2.8?

    I am looking at purchasing this lens for my wife, however, she has the Fujifilm X-T10...which is only 16.4 megapixels. How do you think this lens would perform on a relatively low MP camera?

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  7 месяцев назад

      It will perform great in well lit situations. 8 megapixels is enough to shoot a magazine cover. Smaller megapixel cameras get bailed out by good glass. This is good glass.
      If she outgrows her XT10 she can use this lens on the next camera. It does well on 40MP cameras so it will certainly do well on 16.
