This is hands down THE BEST review of this lens on RUclips. Great great content, love your cinematography and the photos you showed us are just stunning. Exceptional work, you‘re a master of finding the right composition. This just made my day, seriously… Man, you deserve a bigger audience!
That segment at 7:12 was so smooth. Musicality, circles popping up, beautiful photos, etc. Great job! I liked your video and subscribed to your channel!
Thanks for a comprehensive review of this lens. For my uses, it seems to hit a sweet spot for intermediate focal ranges. My main interest is in bird photography and for that, I still use my Nikon D500 with the 200-500mm lens. This for me is a great lens for taking to the zoo and for quick walks around the park. Some day I plan to go mirrorless using the Fuji system for my birding but the long-range lens I'm looking for isn't yet available. My Fuji bodies are the X-100F and the X-T5. My DSLRs are the Nikon D700 and D500. By the way, I'll never part with that magnificent beast, the D700!
Great comparison! I have and love the 50-140mm with its constant f2.8 aperture...but it really needs a tripod with that weight (for my comfort), which means it only comes with me when I bring a tripod (which hardly ever happens anymore), so am about to get an iFootage Cobra 2 carbon fiber monopod. That said, I have the 10-24mm and 16-80mm lenses and find the 16-80mm is living on my XT4...but adding the 70-300mm would give a great carry everywhere lens (used a Soligor 90-230 zoom for years on my 35mm film camera). As you said, everything is a compromise; the 50-140mm is fantastic for some situations, but too heavy to carry all day. As always the best camera+lens is the one you have with you and the 70-300mm looks like it will get me close to my long-lost favorite everyday carry zoom range, with good image quality. BTW, your Tuscany photos are great; beautiful countryside. I toured the Amalfi coast for a few days pre-covid and both the countryside and the people were amazing; makes me want to learn italian and go back for a longer tour.
Hi, thanks so much for the comment and for sharing your thoughts. Glad you enjoyed the video and images :) Yeah, Tuscany is such an amazing place to visit, it doesn't get old! Ciao
Thank you, Andrea! I was a bit unsure about my recent 50-140 purchase, wondering whether I should have gotten the 70-300 instead. Now I know I made the right call.
Given that the Tamron 17-70 is now available for Fuji, the 70-300 makes even more sense for some people if you pair those lenses. That's a lot of focal length coverage in two lenses.
I've had the 50-140 for several years and love it. I've had the 70-300 for several months now and love it. They serve very different purposes so trading one for another isn't a fair trade. Trading my 55-200 for the 70-300 was my question but once I did, there was no comparison. Now, I wouldn't want to give up either the 50-140 or the 70-300!
Just stumbled on this review. Superb. You have a new sub. I would say though that for me, a better solution for the 15 or 20mm gap in focal range would be to use the 16-55mm or whatever your short telephoto is and crop in a bit, rather than lose quality with super resolution. Particularly now we have 40mp to play with.
Hi! What a great review! I absolutley loved the part where you show your compositions taken from the big/wide view! I has nothing to do with the lens, but your skill. Fantastic! Thanks Max
Great thought out video. If I didn’t do events, weddings etc, I would probably prefer a lighter and more portable telephoto lens. But with the 50-140 being f2.8 it really makes a world of difference to me especially if i get into a low light environment which is quite often at weddings church’s and reception’s are usually quite dark places.
Hi Elias, thanks so much for the comment! Totally agree, lighter is always better :) Anyway, for weddings & events, the 50-140 is killer, and it's hands down the best choice. Have a good one, ciao :)
appreciate the unique comparison! I am one of those individuals with a 50-140 and a 2x tc and debating on adding or switching to the 70-300! Have to admit though, the 50-140 is an unrivaled lens in the fuji lineup and I think i'm okay with the extra weight.
Hi Herald, thanks so much for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the video. Yep, the 50-140 is such an amazing lens. I was tempted to switch, but as you saw in the video, I didn't :) Ciao
Hi Peter, thanks so much for the comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. The brand iShoot sells a decent amount of lens collars for many cameras, but apparently, not for the Fuji 70-300mm. I've added the link in the video description for the 50-140mm third-party tripod foot. Ciao :)
Great review Andrea, I have one mention regarding usage of a gimbal. In this regard the 70-300mm lens is close to un-usable on a gimbal. Again great review!
I know that this review is already few months old but i am glad i found it. I am using my 50-140mm for intimate landscape shots. The weight is nothing when compared to the full frame DSLR equivalent setup i used to carry with me. Been thinking of selling it for the 70-300mm for extra reach. When you were showing the rolling hills in the video and showing some possible compositions, were you not worried that those shots would require something longer than 140mm? Or would you just crop? The difference between 140 to 300mm is hard to ignore specially for intimate landscape.
Hi, glad you found the video interesting. Thanks! The different focal range on the longer side is definitely hard to ignore, but I usually compensate for the lack of mm using the Super Resolution in Photoshop. I know, it's not the same thing, but for my use, I found it a reasonable trade-off. The image quality, robustness, and versatility of the 50-140mm it's hard to give up :)
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto it is very hard to depart with the 50-140mm. And i totally agree that the tripod mount on lens is a big advantage. Speaking about PS super resolution, have you tried topaz giga ai? I have tried it and i am getting better results than in photoshop. Thanks again for the video and your reply!
@@amateurphotographer1096 You're very welcome :) Well, I tried Topaz Giga AI and compared it with Photoshop's Super Resolution. The results are not so much different. Actually, most of the time, I got better results with Photoshop rather than Giga AI, especially when I have people in the shot. So, for my experience, I stick with Photoshop.
As a newcomer to Fuji's world (Bought lately an X-T3 camera) I found your video about this lens most interesting. I know I will need to buy a telephoto lens in the near future and I am still searching my way around...Subscribed and will continue to follow your videos. Thanks Andrea and all the best to you.
Hi David, glad you found the video useful to shape your final decision. Thanks so much for the comment and for subscribing, I really appreciate that! Have good one, Ciao :)
Hey Nik, thanks for the comment. The 70-300 is absolutely great, you won't have any problem photographing the Dolomites. Actually, those 100mm on the longer side are in some cases a deal breaker. Ciao :)
Thanks for the comment, Chris! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video. I find the 70-300 to be an excellent match with the X-T5. The only thing that still bothers me is the pronounced vignetting, but that's just a small drawback of the lens, not the camera.
fx50-140 is for specific uses especially wedding work horse and landscape i already sell mine and switch to fx 70-300 cause i'm just use it for traveling and candid shooting bird and wildlife >> so it's the matter of personal preference and i like what U'r TRYING TO INTERPRET THANKS FROM THAILAND
Yet another great video, good job Andrea! I started off wondering whether this lens 'might' be a replacement for my 55-200. Now I'm wondering whether I should replace it with the 50-140 instead!
Hey mate, thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed the video :) I think 55-220 or 50-140 is a decision that very much depends on what your priorities are. If weight is the key feature for your usage, well, the 70-300 is the smart choice. But, if the super-tele focal length is not a crucial aspect for you to consider (and I showed you in the video my workaround), and if you don’t mind carrying with you 400 extra grams, the 50-140 gives you an incredible flexibility in terms of user experience, stability, and it’s a constant f/2.8. You should try it, and you might find it your best friend :) Ciao \m/
Nice review but you didn’t mention the differences in magnification. It is my understanding that the 50-140 has a magnification of about .1, whereas the 70-300 has about 1 to 2 magnification, enabling much closer images.
Great review Andrea and you take beautiful pictures. My brother just gifted me this lens with a 2x teleconverter so look forward to trying it out even more after seeing your video. You have a new subscriber!
Grazie mille!
Understandably, the 50-140 OIS which bears a constant f2.8 aperture, is much better suited for events and portraits, however, your review of the 70-300 OIS is wonderful
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment. Don't be influenced too much by my specific usage, the 70-300 is a wonderful lens, even if it's not rated as "pro lens". Moreover, it's perfect for backpacking :) Ciao
Great comparison as always. I have the 50-140 which is my portrait lens, but I think the 70-300 may be in my bag when it's possible for me to do another adult gap-year. I struggled with the weight of a GFX50s and two lenses on a round the world backpacking trip in 2019 and learned my lesson about weight, and got back to X series. I think the 70-300 will compliment what I have, and the 50-140 will be a studio lens or for short trips.
Hi, thanks for the comment and for sharing your thoughts. The GFX 50S is way bigger than an X-T basic setup. I think an X-T kit makes better sense for backpacking. I had the same experience in the Faroe Islands a couple of years ago with the GFX 50R, so I totally understand, hahah :) Ciao Gonzo
Hi Andrea, it's great to see another lens review from you. One never gets tired of it👍. I have been focusing on closer range lenses since getting into the Fuji world, tele lenses though being on my bucket list sooner or later. This review is very useful! I tend to prefer being in the 1st third of a lens range, like you said most of your pictures are between the 50-70 mm range. For the 70-300 I think shooting from 200mm and above could be mainly useful when shooting wildlife or really close ups of far away subjects. But, in the case it's not a budget question, would you also suggest for mainly landscape photography with focal range mainly around the 70-100mm mark, the 50-140 offers better pictures? Cheers! 👋
Hi, thanks so much for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the review. Well, sometimes, with my 50-140 I miss those extra 50mm on the longer side, but I wouldn't give up the 50-140. It's not just about the focal length or sharpness or the lens collar; that lens has something unique in terms of colors, contrast, and 3D pop. Ciao :)
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto You're welcome, thanks for replying :). Indeed that's the point. Watching the work you do no wonder you like the 50-140, for landscape it's the greatest option. The 70-300 is a very convenient option, for a good quality, with the 16-80 like you said you have basically covered all the focus range you need on a trip. This year I need to slow down, but next year I will target on of these lenses. Thanks for your reviews and sharing your knowledge, it helps very much ;)) Ciao
Another solid review, thank you. The 70-300 was also positioned as a sports/action lens, but it's not going to be fast enough shooting indoors or outside in less than sunny conditions. My 55-200 pulls double-duty for sports & landscape so the 50-140 seems the better upgrade.
I'd go for the 70-300 AND the 50-140 and lose the 55-200. I've had the 50-140 for several years and love it, along with the 55-200 which I liked. I replaced the latter with the 70-300 a few months ago and it was a great swap! I love the 70-300 and find that I don't lug the 50-140 around nearly as often.
Great vid...Liked and subscribed. I use a canon dslr and want to add a Fuiji XT3 mirrorless to my kit but was unsure about the zoom lenses. I was going to buy the 70-300 and after watching this vid I will buy the 50-140. Thank you for making my mind up. :-)
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video! I didn't have the opportunity to try both lenses, yet. For sure I'm going to be testing the 100-400 next October. Anyway, it would be nice to put my hands on the Tamron. So, let's see. Thanks so much for the comment :) Ciao
Hey Andrea. Check out Atoll. I use that to stabilize my lenses and give me the option of doing portrait mode easily. I think it's nice if fuji gave mounting holes similar to that leg of the 50-140mm. The Atoll solves this for me.
Hello Andrea, I have the 16-80, and I'm considering my options for telephoto. The 70-300 seems like the best option in my case, but I was also wondering if you think that would be enough, or would I need a wide lens to complement them? Thank you.
Hi Sergio, thanks for stopping by. It really depends on what you like to photograph. The 16-80 covers most of the scenarios, from relatively wide scenes to mid-tele shots. An ultra-wide angle lens like the 10-24 is very handy when you want to include a close element as a foreground. The 70-300 is an excellent long focal length zoom lens that can be a great companion for the 16-80. So, if you don't have a tele lens, the 70-300 can be definitely a great addition to your lens kit. I hope this helps. Ciao
Nice video again Andrea. Would you recommend me to buy the TC2x for my 50-140 instead to change it for the 70-300?. I would like to see a video about 1.4x and 2x multipliers !!!
Hi Carlos, thanks so much for the comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Sadly, I didn't have with me any TC converter, but it's something I want to try for a future video. I actually tried the 2x version a while ago, but I wasn't impressed by image quality. Too soft, you loose 2-stops, and the autofocus was very slow. Ciao :)
Thank you Andrea for the valuable info. Philip just bought few days ago the 70-300mm at a very good sales price as he needs some Fuji lenses and he likes capturing birds. But I'll keep shooting with the 50-140mm as it is my preferred shooting distances and I like that lens, though I did enjoy shooting with the 55-200 the first lens I bought with my first Fuji camera. I sold it as I mostly did not like the fact this lens did not lock while hanging from my shoulder (it kept dropping). Your photos in your 'backyard' are beautiful. By the way, Andrea, I didn't upgrade to CO21 as the new features, annoyingly, were not revealed until its release (not offering that much more useful features for me as it turned out) but will upgrade in 22.
Hi Odile, thanks so much for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video. Philip made a wonderful buy :) The 50-140mm is a different lens, you know, it comes down to personal taste. Capture One Pro 21 has some new nice additions, but at the moment they are not worth the cost for some users, I totally understand. Let's see on the next release, there's a lot of expectation. Dear Odile, thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day and as always say hi to Philip :) Ciao
Hi Lemons, glad you enjoyed the review and the content production aspect, I really appreciate that!!! As always, thanks so much for stopping by and commenting :) Ciao
Great review. I fully agree. I’ve owned the 100-400 and the 50-140 and the 55-200. But my absolute favourite is the 70-300 which I stick in my pocket and it has amazing bokeh given its a slow lens. Because it’s lightweight I can swap lenses in seconds and it’s always in my waist pouch for quick access. And….. it takes the TC converters! Wish it had a tripod foot. If anyone knows of a tripod collar that fits please let me know.
Very informative and field-relevant review, thank you so much! But what I can't understand: Why do you - as a landscape photographer - not work with a full frame camera and a 70-200mm F4.0 lens, which is even lighter (about 700g) as your Fuji 50-140? You would also get an even better image quality, especially more dynamic range!
Hi Markus, thanks so much for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the video. The reason why I use Fujifilm cameras is that I like their color science, ergonomics (a lot!), and versatility (photos & videos). I don't have anything against full-frame or medium-format cameras. These days the image quality standard is pretty high for any camera manufacturer, so the real selling point to me is how does it fell the camera in my hands. That's it :) Ciao
Thank you for the comment and for sharing your thoughts. While I haven't officially reviewed the 2x teleconverter, I did have the chance to try it out, and my experience wasn't very positive. It significantly slows down the lens and leads to a noticeable degradation in image quality. Therefore, I personally don't see any benefits in using it. Please note that this is just my personal opinion.
This is my combination, I just received it Friday. I have some nice bird photos, I just need to tweak things. At high shutterspeeds 2000-4000, I have to go from F8 to F7-5.6. Otherwise I have some noise, but also there was some overcast nearby. I've gotten some beautiful shots. Great video!
Hi Geoff, thanks for the comment and glad the video was helpful. About your question, not exactly. The tripod foot is not only useful to quickly switch the camera from landscape to the horizontal orientation, but it provides an easy way to support your setup under the lens instead of the camera. So, a better weight distribution, more stability and less vibrations. With the L-bracket you don't "solve the problem". Anyway, it's a personal preference, nothing more :) Ciao
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto Might I add that you've made me love my 50-140mm even more! Also, have you ever used the 1.4X or 2.0X teleconverters? I have them, and yes they do cause loss of picture sharpness. But they do make the 50-140mm more versatile.
Hi Bill, yeah, I've used both. The x1.4 It's fine, the image quality is okay, and on some occasions is very convenient, even though the boost is not too much. The x2.0 would be a nicer option in terms of resulting focal length, but the sharpness is not good for my liking and the AF performance are quite poor. Anyway, I think the 50-140mm is excellent as it is :) Ciao
Curious, for what I shoot i HAVE to have a 50-140. What I'm wondering is if the TC with the 50-140 is close to the 70-300 in terms of quality. I would like to not have two telephoto lenses and minimize my kit if possible. Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by. The teleconverter x1.4 is pretty good and the image degradation is negligible. The x2.0 is absolutely awful. From my experience, I wouldn't recommend it. Ciao
Hi Rishabh, depth of field is related to three aspects: the distance between the subject and the photographer, the aperture, and the focal length. As you get closer to the subject, keeping the same aperture value, you’ll decrease the depth of field. As you open the diaphragm, you’ll get a narrow depth of field. And lastly, as you increase the focal length, the depth of field decreases accordingly. So, what changes between the three “techniques” is the angle of view, the compression of the scene, and I would say the overall feeling of the image. To summarize, yes, if used properly, this lens gives you a great narrow depth of field to blurry the background and separate the subject. Ciao :)
I already have the 100-400mm using it for also landscape photography but to heavy even though great image quality but when i saw the 70-300mm and good image quality i put a down payment to get the first at my country light weather sealed and i am a hiking person so this a amazing combination 16-80mm already have and the 70-300mm
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto i know i told my fiance i want the 50-200xf and she wanna show how much she loves me she bought the expense one 🤣 but i will keep it when i travel to Africa and looking forward to go to Italy greatings from Lebanon 🙏🏼
You won't be sorry. I had the 16-80 and a few months back aded the 70-300 and they rock it together. Plus you can use the extender with the 70-300! I kept my 50-140 but sold my 100-400.
I currently use Tamron 17-70 f2.8 paired with XT5 and looking for a telephoto lens. I am confused btwn 55-200 & 70-300. FYI, I shoot 70% video and 30% stills. For videography, which lens is recommended? I saw somewhere that the 70-300 focus hunts at the time of zooming in or out which is a dealbreaker for my use case. I am aware that none of these are parfocal lens but if I have to pick one, which one would be the best for my use case?
Thank you for stopping by. Neither of these lenses is designed for videography purposes. They are very similar in terms of focus performance. Therefore, if you have to choose one, you may want to take into account other factors such as the maximum aperture, the required focal length, weather-sealing, and macro capability.
How about using this lens for wild life photography and flying birds? As this lens not far reachable if I use 1.4xTC, does it affect the image quality and can I get a perfect portrait close up shot of the animal or a bird? Please advise. Thanks
Hey Tomas, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the review. I think it makes sense, the 70-300 has been created for specific usages and to fit a price segment, and adding a tripod foot would have affected the price significantly. Anyway, it's a fantastic lens to use :) Ciao
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto a lens collar or tripod foot as you call it would not affect the price at all, in the case of this lens is not required due to it light weight and lack of strain on the camera mount.....
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto iShooter make a lens collar for it. If you want to search for it, it is the same model that is used for the Fujifilm 55-200mm lens. It clamps around the lens switches so the collar cannot rotate, but it should improve the weight distribution. I recently bought the 70-300mm lens and soon afterwards bought the lens collar for around £50. It looks good and seems to fit well, but I haven't had time to try it out.
Do you think this would be ok on an XT2, handheld. My T2 does not have inbuilt stabilisation, and secondly I really like shooting without a tripod. Cheers
Ciao caro, grazie per il tuo video. Molto esplicativo. In sostanza me lo consigli?😂
Spero ti tornino utili queste considerazioni. Ciao :)
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto grazie mille davvero.
Ciao :)
17:20, when apply 280mm Super Resolution on the 140mm lens, can't you also apply SR on the 300mm to increase it's FL to, let's say for example, 450mm and get equal good results? I mean, if you can cheat on the 140mm to fake it to 300mm, can't you also apply the same "cheat" on the 300mm to increase it too? (only then it's more fair comparison IMO).
It might sound ungrateful but I feel I need to express my enthusiasm: for me the best value of this review is that you use the same body as me and I looked for hours for some info of a 70-300 in a XT-30 body and found nothing. Still, as a surprise, here it is! Now I will pay attention! I was afraid it was a too big lent to a too small body, but doesn't look that bad.
Hi Ricardo, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for the comment. The combo X-T30 + 70-300 is absolutely great! You won't be disappointed :) Ciao
Hi Gary, I agree. I myself can't emphasize enough how important is the tripod foot at some long focal lengths and how much easier is working in the field having it. Ciao :)
Gary Brown, iShooter make a lens collar for it. If you want to search for it, it is the same model that is used for the Fujifilm 55-200mm lens. You and Andy are the nicest ppl!!! You both answer so promptly and are super caring. I hope I can do a workshop someday. I can see why they are so popular! Anyway I do appreciate the feedback on the xt30 combo. I’m 54 female and love to do travel photography but I’m concerned about weight and carrying it around so I’m constantly looking for ways to carry lighter without compromising on image quality. Doing Balkans in the fall and I want great images of the cathedrals, castles etc. I use an xt4 and recently bought an xt20 for my 2 body so I don’t have to switch lenses.

Hi, thanks for the comment, and glad you found the video helpful :) Ciao
Given that the Tamron 17-70 is now available for Fuji, the 70-300 makes even more sense for some people if you pair those lenses. That's a lot of focal length coverage in two lenses.
Tamron also makes an 18-300 & 150-500 for fuji
Great comment and insight there nick! Someone with some common sense, is always refreshing to see! 👍✌
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, Cheryl! Ciao :)
Yes....different lenses they should not be compared
I sold my 55 -200 when the 70-300 was announced and still haven’t ordered the 70-300. I need to get it ordered.
@@samson40a Chop, chop!😁
Just stumbled on this review. Superb. You have a new sub. I would say though that for me, a better solution for the 15 or 20mm gap in focal range would be to use the 16-55mm or whatever your short telephoto is and crop in a bit, rather than lose quality with super resolution. Particularly now we have 40mp to play with.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the feedback!
Hi!
What a great review! I absolutley loved the part where you show your compositions taken from the big/wide view! I has nothing to do with the lens, but your skill. Fantastic!
Thanks
Max
Hi, thanks a ton! Happy you enjoyed it 😃 Ciao
Fantastic video and so informative but where did you get the tripod collar I could'nt find it in your Accessories list.
Thanks so much for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, the 70-300 is a wonderful lens but working with videos is quite challenging.
I'll take the 70-300 to the Dolomites. I couldn't find an affordable rent for 50-140. Your review saved the day once again!
Hey Nik, thanks for the comment. The 70-300 is absolutely great, you won't have any problem photographing the Dolomites. Actually, those 100mm on the longer side are in some cases a deal breaker. Ciao :)
Another informative video, thanks Andrea. Have you used the 70-300 with your X-T5, how does it perform with the new 40mp sensor?
Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes indeed, it's all about personal use and preferences. Both lenses are absolutely wonderful. Ciao :)
Awesome video! I’m glad I found your page. Keep the Fuji content coming!
Awesome, thank you very much Misterfilmguy! Much appreciated :) Ciao
Oh wow, that’s cool 😄 Thanks so much for the comment and enjoy your new lens. Ciao 😃
Understandably, the 50-140 OIS which bears a constant f2.8 aperture, is much better suited for events and portraits, however, your review of the 70-300 OIS is wonderful
Thank you very much for your comment! I greatly appreciate it! Ciao
Your guitar analogy was perfect.
Thanks so much, Nate! Glad you enjoyed the video :) Ciao
Thanks, Andrea! I am not a professional, I would go after 70-300mm. It is more budget and backpack friendly.
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment. Don't be influenced too much by my specific usage, the 70-300 is a wonderful lens, even if it's not rated as "pro lens". Moreover, it's perfect for backpacking :) Ciao
I have it and i love it for landscape/mountains photographies ! great video again (and again !)
Hi Philippe, yep, it’s a lovely piece of glass. Thanks for the comment :)
In the words of many before me. Get stronger😂
Excellent information.thank you so much..I was in dilemma which one to buy.
Thanks so much, glad you find the video useful! 😃 Ciao
Excellent review. I have the 70-300 on order. I am considering an Andoer L200 Telephoto Lens Support to solve the tripod problem. Have you tried one?
Hi Jules, that's fantastic. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you! I've never tried the L200, I can't give you any feedback about it. Ciao :)
Hi John, glad you enjoyed the review, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. The 50-140 will not disappoint you :) Ciao
This is JUST the comparison I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the comment and glad you found the video useful 🙂
Great vid...Liked and subscribed. I use a canon dslr and want to add a Fuiji XT3 mirrorless to my kit but was unsure about the zoom lenses. I was going to buy the 70-300 and after watching this vid I will buy the 50-140. Thank you for making my mind up. :-)
Hi Bob, I’m really glad you found the video useful, thanks a lot! The 50-140mm is superb. You’ll have a lot of fun with it :) Ciao
Thank you - very helpful for choosing the right lense and great composition tips along the way 🙏
Glad you found it useful! Thanks so much for the comment. Ciao :)
I am going to Tuscany this summer. How often did you actually go beyond 200mm for the landscapes you shot?
It's usually enough to use 200mm, but sometimes it helps to have a longer focal length.
great test what about the Tamron
18-300 ° and perhaps, the 100-400 ?
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video! I didn't have the opportunity to try both lenses, yet. For sure I'm going to be testing the 100-400 next October. Anyway, it would be nice to put my hands on the Tamron. So, let's see. Thanks so much for the comment :) Ciao
Hey Andrea. Check out Atoll. I use that to stabilize my lenses and give me the option of doing portrait mode easily. I think it's nice if fuji gave mounting holes similar to that leg of the 50-140mm. The Atoll solves this for me.
Hi William, thanks for the comment. I’ve seen the Atoll but never tried it. It seems to be a great option 😃
Ciao :)
Altrettanto.
Ciao
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto That's very useful. Thank you very much for the input.
Ciao :)
i haven’t yet seen anyone recommend wven going near any tc 2x - across any brands - it’s just no good - the 1.4 is Ok though
Your production quality is simply insane!😍Also very interesting.
Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts, Barry! Appreciated 🙂
May i ask if you have a little play on the mount of the 70-300? Or does it sit tight? Mine does play a little and ive heard that is normal?
FF does not equate to more dynamic range… Sony and Fuji both have more dynamic range than Canon FF
I sold my other Fuji zooms for the xf 70-300 because I love the IQ and small size. Have you or anyone else reviewed the 50-140 with a Fuji 2x TC?
Thank you for the comment and for sharing your thoughts. While I haven't officially reviewed the 2x teleconverter, I did have the chance to try it out, and my experience wasn't very positive. It significantly slows down the lens and leads to a noticeable degradation in image quality. Therefore, I personally don't see any benefits in using it. Please note that this is just my personal opinion.
The 70-300 is so small and light, combined with the Fuji X-T30 makes for a very compact telephoto setup!
Yeah, in terms of size and weight, the combo X-T30 + 70-300mm is unbeatable. Ciao :)
Wow, you got yourself an new sub! I love your style!!
Really appreciated, thanks so much for it! glad you enjoyed the video :) Ciao
Thanks. Great comparison. The difficulty switching the lens for panorama would have been overcome with an L bracket wouldn’t it??
Hi Geoff, thanks for the comment and glad the video was helpful. About your question, not exactly. The tripod foot is not only useful to quickly switch the camera from landscape to the horizontal orientation, but it provides an easy way to support your setup under the lens instead of the camera. So, a better weight distribution, more stability and less vibrations. With the L-bracket you don't "solve the problem". Anyway, it's a personal preference, nothing more :) Ciao
Wow!!! Love the two shot zoom examples!
Thanks so much Bill, glad you enjoyed the shots :) Ciao
Honest review man. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much, Mariano! Glad you enjoyed the video :) Ciao
Hello, any suggestions whether I need to wait for 18-300 Tamron or I shall buy this 70-300 Fuji?
Hi, on paper the Tamron seems to be very promising, but for now, who can tell? We must wait a while :) Ciao
Ive been dancing around the 50-140 for 2 years. I guess its time because I actually need it.
Hi Skip, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, the 50-140 will not disappoint you :) Ciao
Nice review! Subscribed 🙂
Hi Sergio, thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks fo subscribing! :) Ciao
what about using El shutter to reduce the shutter schock ? or at least, 1st el curtain (that is my default mode on the xt4)
Yeah, the electronic shutter is very handy on some occasions, especially for relatively long exposures like 1/30 or longer. It makes the difference.
Ciao
Best and most complete review
Thanks so much, Leandro! I'm really glad you enjoyed the review 🙂
Hello, Is this lense good for portrait and getting depth of field??

Excellent review! Thank you 🙏
Hi Walter, thanks so much! 😃
Excuse me, when the XF70-300MM lens is shaken, will there be strange noises inside??? Thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment. No strange noises inside the lens. You might hear the OIS working when the lens is turned on. Ciao 😃
How about using this lens for wild life photography and flying birds? As this lens not far reachable if I use 1.4xTC, does it affect the image quality and can I get a perfect portrait close up shot of the animal or a bird? Please advise. Thanks

Hi, thanks for stopping by. It’s the first version of the newer MT190XPRO4 Manfrotto. Ciao ;)
thank you for the review, it is an excellent lens, I do not understand why fuji did not implement also tripod ring, it is a shame :(
Hey Tomas, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the review.

Ciao caro, grazie per il tuo video. Molto esplicativo. In sostanza me lo consigli?😂
Spero ti tornino utili queste considerazioni. Ciao :)
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto grazie mille davvero. Iscrizione fatta 🤟🏻😂
Di nulla, figurati! E grazie per esserti iscritto al canale. Ciao :)
15:30 - are you sure you can use 70-300 with teleconverter? As far as I know it is not possible.
Yes, it's absolutely possible to use the 70-300mm lens with a teleconverter.
Photos are amazing. great work.
Thanks so much! :) Ciao
You still need the fast glass for low light...
No tripod foot could be a deal breaker
I like my g9 with 100-400mm for wildlife but has no macro
Hi Gary, I agree. I myself can't emphasize enough how important is the tripod foot at some long focal lengths and how much easier is working in the field having it. Ciao :)
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto i just watched a video on nisi close up screew on lens for macro
I think ill get the 77mm for my panasonic 100-400mm
Gary Brown, iShooter make a lens collar for it. If you want to search for it, it is the same model that is used for the Fujifilm 55-200mm lens. It clamps around the lens switches so the collar cannot rotate, but it should improve the weight distribution. I recently bought the 70-300mm lens and soon afterwards bought the lens collar for around £50. It looks good and seems to fit well, but I haven't had time to try it out.
Tkank you very much for the video👍🍻
Thanks so much, Ralf! Glad you found the video useful 😃 Ciao
Hi Andrea…how about shooting the 70-300 handheld with the xt30? Does the weight distribution make it too front heavy? Or better to use tripod only?
Thank you for stopping by, Sunny. I absolutely love the combination of the X-T30 and 70-300, both handheld and on a tripod. The two match pretty well, in my opinion. Ciao
Astonishing images ❤️
Thanks so much, Subeesh! Glad you enjoyed the images :) Ciao
Your English Sir, is as impeccable as your review.
Hi Thomas, thanks so much for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the review. Much appreciated :) Ciao
Do you also have the lens rattling inside with the camera turned off?
On the 50-140 yes. Ciao
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto on 70-300 too?
@@inspirator4527 not as the 50-140, but it also rattling a little bit.
@@AndreaLivieriPhoto only when camera is off?
Yes
Great vid 👍
Thanks so much, Robbie! :) Ciao
Looking at your images I'm not sure what colours you are talking about, they are almost black and white with very little saturation
Out ideas of black and white and colors are quite different. But that’s fine, it’s all about personal taste.
Just viewed your recent photos. Beautiful. Great work
Thank you very much, John! Ciao :)
What does your t-shirt says? Eat, sleep, do your….thing? XD I don’t know I’m very curious about that. Nice video as always, very helpful as always. Thank you very much for share! 🙏🏽
Hi Miguel, thanks so much for the comment and glad you found the video useful. The end of the sentence is "...do your push-ups!"; just a motivational phrase to stay in shape :) Ciao
