Well done. Thanks for this review, I was just wondering which lens would be better as a photographer and you helped me make my decision. I like the all in one of the 18-300 for my full spectrum xt4.
That is absolutely woeful focus speed and stabilization, but impressive sharpness for that range. Looks like a great all in one lens for static shots though.
Love your content. Not a lot of people can blend humor and technical details. You are unique. Thanks for the information and also for making me laugh. "Tamron/Tampon" 😭
Exposure jumps, jitter, change of white balance mid-shot (2:45)... I felt transported to a different era, when CC knew nothing and we learned nothing...

Thank you!!! Finally someone finally did a review that gave us real answers!!! I was looking for a longer lens. Than the 55-200 .. and the Fuji always locked on so amazingly.. your the first one that actually talked about how it compares on the long end ..You rule!!
I found the stabilization to be horrible as well, until I switched IS mode to "continuous" from "shooting only". Great lens after that (although I'm a stills photographer so can't comment on video).
Came back to watch this again after 2 years. I'd really like something with some reach for wildlife and sports. For a long time I thought my dream lens was the XF50-140 plus the 1.4X teleconverter. But, that means coughing up some big bucks. While the XF50-140 has better Tony capability and isn't variable Tony like the XF70-300, the cost difference might make the latter worth it. The 70-300 is also compatible with the 1.4X teleconverter, but that might be to much of a Tony loss. Anyway, this was helpful seeing how good the stabe was on the 70-300. BTW, I think you need Fuji back in your life!! LOL!
Dude you made me laugh so many times during this very serious choice I am about to make. I have the tampon and now I need to go for the loser fuji. Goddamnit.
lol nice review ! yeah a little disapointed .. I think we all ( Fuji users ) hope that this lens will change everything... as you said this is they first x-mount so not bad for a first time ;p
Man, if half the RUclipsrs were not taking themselves as seriously as you do, RUclips reviews would be a lot more fun to watch! Thanks for the comparison. I definitely don't want the 18-300mm anymore, for now.
I have the 70-300 and I like it. The stabilization is one of my favorite things about it but there are a few annoyances. It is soft. You can't really crop any photos. Also no ois switch on the lens and you catastrophically lose focus when you zoom. The size/weight/range of the thing is awesome tho...
I have the nikon Z50, and am looking for a better lens for wildlife than the 50-250 dx. I'm considering the 24-200, which would be a 36-300mm equivalent. I feel like the little bit of extra versatility at both ends would mean I wouldn't be needing to switch lenses as much for wider shots, and have a little more reach on the long end which would be nice for just carrying one lens when hiking. The only thing I can't decide is if I'd rather just go straight for a dedicated lens for wildlife in the same price range like the tamron 100-400, which should be a 150-600 equivalent. Wouldn't be as good for hiking, but I'll probably end up with both, so it's just a matter of which I would pick up first.
Tamron has good quality glass but not if you need IS. My full frame 150-600 G2 was OK for stills with Canon cameras (both DSLR and mirrorless) but unusable for video, just like yours. The native Canon RF 100-500 is so much more stable it's not funny. It's also sharper, which it better be for $2800 USD. I'll never buy Tamron again. Not that they make anything for RF. If Sigma make anything for Fuji, I'd like to see how that looks.
The stabilization in my 24-70 g2 from Tamron is fantastic. I've never used a 150-600 but I imagine that focal length really isn't meant for handheld shooting regardless of brand
Perfect as usual lol. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Fuji 18-135mm.. the Sony 18-135 is impressively light so good for travel photography (not great for video)
Nice review! As a videographer, maybe it's time to shift to the Sony ecosystem. Vastly superior auto-focus in the a6700, very good built-in image stabilization, and the newest sensor works great with the speed limitations of the Tamron. You will appreciate Sony's advantages as their auto-focus takes a back seat to no-one. One RUclipsr posted a great comparison between the Tamron and the Sony G 70-350mm equivalent, and the Tamron proves to be quite compelling, particularly given its versatility.
Never thought i'd have this fun watching a review video ahaha awsome vid btw Just a question, photography wise, specially with surf photography, do they both have the same zoom/range or whatevers the right word for it at 300mm?
Just tested the Tamron 18-300 E-mount for Sony ZV-E1 on Dynamic Active Stability with 1.1 X Digital Zoom. Works amazing! Super stable even with walking. The crop is perfect with no vignette. This would be my all in one set-up and I don't have to worry about low light since the ZV-E1 is great at that.
Why on earth would you sell the 50-140 ? I'm just curious, because this is a dream lens for me. Maybe it didn't fit your usage ? Else, what were the issues you had with it ?
@@robin14441 it's an absolutely fabulous lens, but I was never going to shoot professional events, or portraits with it, and it was far too heavy to lug around as a landscape lens. I also probably only used it 3-4 times in the 2 years I owned it. I bought it for $1500, and sold it for $1300, so at least it's somewhat affordable on the used market. I used the money to buy an x100v, which I'm thrilled about.
Hmm, should I wait for Tamron to bring their 17-70 2.8 to X-Mount, wait to see what Sigma might make, or pick up a used Fuji 16-55 2.8? Currently have the Fuji 16-80mm and 16mm 2.8 for video.
I think the stabe issues are the biggest reason not to buy the Tamron. If you only shot photos, or shot on a tripod, I'd consider it. But that shakiness renders it useless for video. Maybe it could work with IBIS, DIS and BOOST!?

Camera conspiracies: Fuji 70 - 300 the best vlogging lens ?
😂 don’t change
Try the Fuji 70-300 with the 1.4 TC too. It’s a lot slower, but for its size is a magic alternative to the 100-400.
great idea, thank you!
My understanding is you get much better images just cropping.
Now you can just buy a new Fuji camera with 40mp sensor and you will get the same result with cropping. Maybe even better
Thankyou for this.
1. You saved me wasting money on that earthquake tube.
2. I kept watching just for the jokes.
Sony should feel alright about this. Tamron was the unstable one in the relationship after all 😂

In your very particular way of presenting the content, I liked it and I probably go for Fujinon 70-300. Thanks, man!!!

I should clarify that I meant in camera IS (X-T4).

Looking at it from an a7 IV perspective, the Tamron 18-300mm could be a perfect lens with crop mode that is already with in 4K@60fps.
