      Actually, if you really stop to think about it, the rot starts from below. Those at the top didn't just find themselves there. We put them there. And they just didn't become corrupt once they got there, we as a society are inherently corrupt. Only when given the opportunity or power, is when our true selves come out

    The problem with Nairobi starts at independence with mistakes that the Kenyatta regime made.
    Colonialist surveyed Nairobi and states it will be problematic with water because it is flat and soggy and preferred where Machakos is for the capital.
    Kenyatta wanted capital near his people.
    Yet, we can't blame Kenyatta purely because problems are there to be solved. And here we have two or three problems
    1. None existent drainage or pathetic drainage system in the whole of Nairobi
    2. Greed and lack of respect for nature! We grab every land that is not under water including dry river beds, riparian etc and we end up paying a hefty price.
    Unless we put a master marshal plan that addresses all these issues we shall continue crying.

    • @georgeodhiambo598
      @georgeodhiambo598 23 дня назад +2

      Eiiish! This story of yours is far fetched. Yes, it is true that the very first colonialists considered having Machakos as the main depot and future capital city but that changed soon after the railway line reached Nairobi and went beyond.
      The decision to move the capital city (main depot) from Machakos to Nairobi was made in the early 1900's.Jomo Kenyatta was just a small boy at that time.

    Our primary challenge lies not in corruption but in our collective lack of planning ability. It's imperative that we prioritize learning effective planning skills, beginning with something as basic as punctuality.

    • @johnnie_rabbit
      @johnnie_rabbit 23 дня назад +1

      I slightly disagree with your statement. Yes we lack planning and punctuality, but it is the corruption that is killing us. For example, a person can wake up in the morning, go to school or work at 12pm with only one pencil, yes he is really bad planning but atleast he got to school. Yes he is a failure but he is way better than the idiot who sold his books, uniform and never bothered getting to the school in the first place.

    I live in Kilifi county, the new Mombasa to Kilifi highway is under construction. As much as KENHA has done, and it is seen, i give them that. The road has been constructed. However,
    1. The road has passed through many private properties, though no compensation has been given, we do not even know how much the valuation is for our compensation. KENHA blames National Lands Commission, NLC blames the president, i have personally lost hope and think that our land has been grabbed by the government.
    2. Conners have been cut. What i mean is that many farms and properties have been cut off from accessing the actual road due to the excavation done. Then what was the point of the road if even us as locals cannot access it. Who was it built for then? And the damage is already done. I believe they did it intentionally knowing that the locals do not have the ability to demand for those rights due to poverty.
    3. Due to the excavations, they have not done due diligence to finish the cliff walls, and now there is high risk of landslides in several areas.
    Waking up in the morning seeing the damage done to my property just kills morale.
    Sorry for my rant, i just needed to get it out. I enjoy the show everyday, let our voices be heard.
    If possible i would like to hear from the National Land Commission ragarding land compensation around the entire country. NLC is not compensating kenyans on the land the government has "acquired". Or if they do, there are some Kenyans who are more Kenyan than others.

    • @anastasiahmwangi8188

    • @timmusumba5846
      @timmusumba5846 23 дня назад

      Very bad indeed! When it comes to compensation they normally drug their feet! But what is the purpose of the new Mombasa-Kilifi highway? I had not heard of it's construction at all! I only was aware of the construction of the road to "South Coast" from Mombasa instead of using the ferry! Is it not enough just using Nyali Bridge...to Kongowea....Bombolulu...Bamburi....Mtwapa....to Kilifi or there is a traffic jam issue on that road so this construction would solve the problem?

    If you already know minimum costs/requirements for something why bother waiting for problems to occur in future by awarding lower bids? Evaluation/inspections can't be forgone but wonder where pending bills including specifically lawyers fees & other contingencies are coming from?
    Procurement laws and procedures have to change to only consider companies that are reputable & can show tangible results. If companies that meet such criteria don't exists KE it simply doesn't matter!

    My fellow Kenyans, this country has had professional engineers since independence; they have even become lecturers and are now teaching new engineers. There has not been any bridge built by a Kenyan engineer that has become the standard for all the bridges in the country. The Chinese came and build a flyover road that is being held by a bridge all along, why don’t we just copy paste what the Chinese did, and have that as the standard for all the bridges in Kenya ? Kenyans let’s not expect first world infrastructure with third world leadership at the helm, let’s just accept who we are and slow down on our expectations.

    The US have something they call “the highway trust fund “ which finances most federal and state government spending for highways and mass transit. Revenues for the trust fund come from transportation related excise taxes, primarily federal taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel. The trust fund receives a small amount of interest on the trust fund reserves and these trust has been there since president Eisenhower. The trust fund has separate accounts for highways and mass transit, because obligations from the trust fund generally are far capital projects that take several years to complete, outlays and reflect projects authorized by congress in previous years. Kenya needs a trust fund where nobody can put their sticky fingers in it and over time it can build interest while the roads are being constructed country wide.

    Water Mapping is what is not being done... and not just Nairobi... Eastern and north eastern Kenya. we have engineers who can map these water ways, direct the waters to big dams they should have already built because, when dry season comes again there is no water for irrigation and animals because all the waters was wasted in the Indian ocean. we need to agree that our roads and drainage systems have a role to play. These politicians always neglect their duties untli the 11th hour before elections just to lie to kenyans. In my neighborhood where I grew up, komarock-kayole hapo naivas, the road just adjacent to the supermarket would turn into a pool when it rained but would roughly be patched before elections, just right to ensure the road would disintegrate after the mheshimiwa gets into office until the next election where it would be a problem that the citizens would raise. We used to call it barabara ya campaign.

    Mombasa rd is so dangerous nowadays after the compilation of Expressway. Unprotected drenches on the sides, unmarked lanes, half done patches, pot holes etc. Ruto instructs his CS Murkomen to bring down the road carnage. You will see what he will. Instead making roads safe to drive on he will target drivers. You will hear of refresh courses, drivers aged 70 to do this and that. He has been unable even to enforce Michuki rules. A poor maintained will definitely be a cause for accidents but nobody goes to that direction. Easy way out is to harass drivers.

      Ours happen every year, without fail. Dubai this year for example, was an anomaly, given the country is a desert. And I assure you, those guys will fix it. Our cities are poorly planned because of corruption and we build high rises without supporting infrastructure.

      Was Ruto in power then?
      What we are facing now is as a result of recurrent regime mistakes

    This story by gava is BORING as it happens every year, year in year out.
    Plans, plans, plans, we are planning ......................................where are the actions?
    Cyclical issues with zero solutions.
    Tiring and boring.
    Meanwhile we read stories of theft in Nairobi county, year on year ..........also cyclical.

    Budget, Budget Budget......the number of times you guys have mentioned "budget" makes me think you don't know what it is. This thing is a plan of execution and not execution itself. So, when you say money has been eaten because there was a budget, the question is, was the money released?
