Bale was completely right in his outburst. That shit is so difficult and a lot of film students/employees have come out and said they get it. That lighting guy fucked up
It was more of a culture clash. Shane Hurlbut came from the world of music videos and action movies, where filming schedules are jam-packed and cinematographers need to be very efficient - constantly thinking two steps ahead, setting-up multiple scenes at a time. No time for waiting around for inspiration or personal process, just get it done. And that's how he went into Terminator Salvation. From his perspective, it was a set-piece movie. His responsibility was laying track in front of a moving train, so that the production could keep chugging along - because that's the only way you can make those kinds of movies. During that infamous scene, he was just being proactive. On the other hand Bale's process as an actor is getting completely lost in his roles, and he went into Terminator Salvation treating it like a serious character study. With plenty of experience working for filmmakers who carefully create the conditions on set that allow that kind of performance to flourish. Having crew doing work in the same room - breaking Bale's immersion, and ruining his eyeline - would have made it almost impossible for him to stay in the moment. Like a Mariachi Band blaring music during a heart surgery. Hurlbut probably thought he was being a minor nuisance, but justified in doing so (given the movie he thought he was making) - while Bale probably knew he was being an asshole, but felt justified (given the movie *he* thought he was making). They just didn't realise how unprofessional they were being from the others' perspective. I'm mind blown by the fact that Bale, a king of transformation, learned method acting from Mr Bean. Atkinson: "Mhm. Ah! Jhm jo. Ooooh" Bale: "Bloody brilliant."
Rowan Atkinson is one of the best method actors of his generation and beyond. Often when I'm asked who is the best actor of the 20th century I can't make up my mind between Brando and Atkinson. Most famous for Mr.Bean, the role often confiscates the brilliance of it, since it's a portray of a sad, somewhat stupid and vile, comedic character that in manny ways is only surpassed with the likes of Chaplin. I mean Mr. Bean is one of the top 5 most recognisable characters in the world due to lack of language barriers. Only superheroes with a 50+ years old legacy and very few other characters have that level of recognition. And the show aired less then 30 episodes!. If you ever go and listen to an interview with him, you will be astounded by the lvl of transformations he undertakes to portray his roles. He's a genius lvl IQ, degrees in multiple areas of engineering, can pick apart and put together most of car engines, and was the fastest "star in a reasonably priced car" for years, since he is a kinda of a Steve McQueen racing and a speed freak! The man is so underrated as an actor it's only rivaled by his sheer fucking talent.
You need a genius actor to play comical characters. Rowan Atkinson is an incredible actor, he is famous for Mr. Bean but he actually did many incredible roles before that. See his theatre performances or his role in Blackadder.
Multiple great roles he played not even mentioned in this video. He is a beast! I have loved movies since I was a kid. Newsies was a classic! The Dark Knight Trilogy was amazing. The Fighter, The Prestige, The Machinist, 3:10 to Yuma, Hostiles, American Hustle, Ford v Ferrari, Vice! The guy is a legend. He should have at least 3 Oscars by now! Instead he has 1 for best supporting actor. Out of 7 nominations.
I am obsessed with his portrayal of Dick Cheney is Vice!! The mannerisms and nuance he used were spot-on and shout out to the makeup crew for making him look equally as close to the ex-vice president as well.
I hate the fact that everyone talks about the notable roles he's taken, but never mention "Harsh Times," where he plays a socially-blended bad guy. He was truly unsettling in that movie and yet...no one talks about it.
@@gri22lybear I mean, pretty sure a Training Day writer or director worked on both. It's even mentioned on the cover art I believe lol. But yeah, he's just as unsettling as Denzel's character.
I’ve been saying this for a while now Christian bale is unmatched, I never see the actor when he plays the role I see the character and a lot of actors do that but not as consistently as bale.
I'm from Boston and his portrayal of Dicky Eklund is way too spot on. It was like watching my former friends at their current stations in life. I don't know that I would want to immerse in acting the way he does, since I struggle just thinking about the real life people I know/knew that he reminded me of.
You could tell he was destined for greatness. Since a young age. The level of maturity and knowing of what to bring to the role in "empire of the sun". He was 10 yet was acting at a late teenage level.
Missed opportunity there. I immediately thought: "Bale was released on bail?" Then again, that joke has probably been used hundreds of times, so maybe it was time to let the ground rest.
What exactly did you learn from this video that you didn't know? All i see is listing his roles and references on losing and lifting weight, and of course "incidents" on Terminator set and with his sister and mother. So it's a "Biography Breakdown" with basically same stuff includes in every video about him
Bale is one of the few actors that are so good people think he is the way he plays a character in a movie is him in real life. People who hear him talk off on shows are shocked when they hear him speaking as they thought he was American not British. Bale doesn't act the character he becomes it.
I really wish there were more movies where Christian Bale just gets to talk in his natural accent. For some reason, I find it really compelling and really enjoy it.
I just want to take a moment to clarify that Henry V is pronounced as 'Henry the fifth' not 'Henry five'. He was the fifth King Henry - it's not a series of movies called Henry and this is the fifth installment. Just a little pedantry on my part, nothing to be worried about or anything, I just thought you might find this helpful.
I've been a bale head before the term existed. Christian truly is a tough dude. That's my accumulation of the man. In the business and in life he is tough.
Cheers brother. Same with me. Have been a big fan of him and his characters since Batman Begins, American Psycho is one of my fav movies much before all these current sigma trend started.
I think it's even more amazing that he's played these characters that any other actor would end up stuck with yet we don't go that's the Patrick Bateman guy or the Batman guy. Unlike so many actors, we know him by his name. Hehe 13:15 Christian was released on Bale.
lol true nobody really mentions this but playing a love-stricken wizard pretty boy who is also kind of a loser for half the runtime by just voice acting is somehow my favourite role of his. helps that i have a soft spot for that movie (and it is my favourite animated movie anyway) but maybe its because it’s different from the roles i usually see him in hollywood. not to say his live action roles aren’t impressive, i honestly find it much so bc of what he does for those movies, but having a normal actor try voice acting usually doesn’t deliver as well as a seasoned voice actor but he still pulled it off even then.
Equalibrium is so underrated. Its a futuristic movie that touches on current events of sorts showing the direction humanity has already started going towards. Even moreso currently. Its one of those movies that actually predict the future with really good accuracy as things play out. Like a real life moving documentary.
Man, I loved Henry Five. They say sequels degrade in quality as they go, but I'd say Henry Five was absolutely on par with Henry One. Also I'm from Whale.
If you haven't watched Empire of The Sun I highly recommend it. The day after watching I had to tell other people to watch it. I think it's a really special movie, showing war through the eyes of a child. He has always been a brilliant actor.
How is it special? It's super basically shot & made in almost every single way. Spielberg in director-for-hire mode took the far, far superior JG Ballard novel and made it into a standard, sappy cheese-fest. It's literally one of those classroom movies either a history teacher throws on, or an English teacher might throw on for the class after reading the book.
You missed some smaller, but iconic roles that made him very popular with many audiences: Equilibrium, Reign of Fire and Harsh Times. All very popular. Esp Equilibrium aka “Matrix-like” action flick with the icon gun-fu and action with McConaughey - it was pretty big deal. Harsh Times was yet another important film by David Ayer. Others mentioned Prestige as well. This really feels like a list that’s too empty to be taken seriously.
Leo won the Oscar for The Revenant which wasn’t a bad performance but it wasn’t his best either…..I loved Tom Hardy’s performance in it and hoped that he wins for the supporting actor. Leo has other movies with good acting performances and won for a mediocre one. But Bale, man every performance is different and awesome physically, mentally and verbally. It’s just bad writing in some of his movies and as he said American Psycho wasn’t as famous as today, so some of his movies were ahead of their time. He also didn’t mention his underrated performance in movies like The Prestige, The Fighter and Ford vs Ferrari etc.
It’s pretty funny how they are hating on his acting and the characters he plays 😭😭 like bro Frl down to earth man he like one of them dads you don’t expect to have such wise words but he does
On the reals, is that like a European thing? I always read Roman numerals with a name as "the fifth," etc. But that might just be my American showing. 🤭
@@orangetaho4u207 It is supposed to be ordinal (eg "the fifth"), they're joking because "Henry Five" makes it sound like the fifth installment of a series, instead of a film about Henry the Fifth, who was, indeed, the fifth King Henry.
Heath ledger was great but this man was day in and day out consistent in his roles. If I had 1% of this man’s discipline I’d be ultra wealthy. Hall of fame actor for sure.
Christian Bale is one of a kind. My wife didn’t really want to, but she sat down to watch Ford Vs Ferrari, she doesn’t know anything about cars, racing, or even film. That film blew her away, she now says it’s her favorite film ever.
He was bloody incredible in the prestige just putting it out, very underrated film in my opinion, both him and high jackman were insanely good, also equilibrium which i imagine the thumbnail was taken from the cover of.
Imagine having to announce “I can no longer play roles with significant weight differences” as if being able to do that in the first place isn't completely mind boggling
As a kid Christian Bale had to support his family since his dad was sick and he developed a hate/love-relationship to acting. Because he felt the pressure he had to continue acting to support his own family as a young kid. But that's not mentioned in the video. I think it's an important part of his story!
The Nolan Batman Trilogy will always be one of my favourites since it includes 2 of the best Character actors to ever exist. Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. Gary Oldman who happens to be my favourite Actor and Christian who is damn near close to that pole Position as well.
Him yelling at the guy sounds WAYYY more reasonable after learning he's a method actor who was hired to use that method to embody the character. Then they take him, have him get into the most intense life and death mental state he can muster. And then tell him action. And then the cinematographer (who should know better) walks into the space completely throwing off the moment. All that intensity had to go somewhere, I suppose. Idk, just doesn't seem as bad as back in 2009 when I first heard it and thought he was just being stuck up.
Bruh when he won his Oscar and gave his speech in that Welsh accent I thought he was just staying method throughout his life for whatever movie he was doing at the time, which I thought was super stupid and ridiculous but IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when I googled him immediately and found out he was Welsh.
I understand what you mean. Christian Bale is known for his dedication to his roles, and casting can make a big difference in how we perceive a character. He definitely brings a unique intensity to his performances.
No "The Prestige" ? He was basically playing 2 different characters subtly enoigh to make us believe it was just 1 character unless we paid close attention! His best performance in terms of nuance and restraint in my opinion.
"Sweat on command in the business card scene" holy CRAP that's amazing. I am not a fanatic when it comes to anything. But Christian Bale certainly is a man to be admired. He's grumpy sometimes (who isn't but I'm referring to the infamous audio recording of him yelling at one of the lighting techs on set) but he's a genuinely good person and no dirt on him after all these years.

@@madameversiera On theater performances, the invisible drum set is a thing on it's own. You need to see it to believe it.
Not many people know this
Multiple great roles he played not even mentioned in this video.
Do yourself a favor and add Equilibrium to that list.
@@Malaphor2501 so funny you say that, it is free on RUclips movies right now and I have it in my “Q” to be watched! Thanks for the recommendation.
I am obsessed with his portrayal of Dick Cheney is Vice!! The mannerisms and nuance he used were spot-on and shout out to the makeup crew for making him look equally as close to the ex-vice president as well.
hostiles is severly underrated, that film was just something different.
Christian Bale is one of the absolute best actors ever in my opinion. Empire of the Sun, Newsies, Velvet Goldmine. Every role he takes is memorable.
I'm sad you're the only other person who's mentioned Velvet Goldmine, I love that movie so much
@@FluffyThieves i too love that movie
"He was released on Bale." 😂
Christian was released on bail...I'm glad someone picked it up. Your attention to details is great.
Came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed 🤣
@@Kaedyn-jt4fwsame here 😂
I hate the fact that everyone talks about the notable roles he's taken, but never mention "Harsh Times," where he plays a socially-blended bad guy. He was truly unsettling in that movie and yet...no one talks about it.
Easily one of my fav movies starring Bale. Similar to Denzel in Training Day. ✌️
The mechanic is also most memorable for me.
@@boomborgoyari5781 The Machinist?
@@gri22lybear I mean, pretty sure a Training Day writer or director worked on both. It's even mentioned on the cover art I believe lol. But yeah, he's just as unsettling as Denzel's character.
Even less people talk about The Pale Blue Eye which is one of the best movies of this decade, yet very few people seem to appreciate it
“Christian was released… on bale.” Is hilarious.
Lol 😂 reading it as I just arrived to Boston for work
@@ClaudiaKoniki Avoid Revere! lol.
Dicky Eklund is my favorite Christian Bale performance.
You could tell he was destined for greatness. Since a young age. The level of maturity and knowing of what to bring to the role in "empire of the sun". He was 10 yet was acting at a late teenage level.
13:14 “Christian was released on bail” 😅
😂😂 Missed that, broke into tears when I saw your comment at the end of the video. 🙌
Missed opportunity there. I immediately thought: "Bale was released on bail?"
Then again, that joke has probably been used hundreds of times, so maybe it was time to let the ground rest.
this level of quality deserves more subscribers
Thank you, It would mean the world to me if people showed support to my hard work by subscribing the channel. I love you all.
What exactly did you learn from this video that you didn't know? All i see is listing his roles and references on losing and lifting weight, and of course "incidents" on Terminator set and with his sister and mother. So it's a "Biography Breakdown" with basically same stuff includes in every video about him
Henry five @@chunjoglavi
From Bateman to Batman. There isn't a role he can't master. He is truly one of the greatest actors I have ever seen.
How about greatest after Daniel Day Lewis
@@subhadeepghosh3961 No one is better than DDL. For me, he is the GOAT.
The Dark Knight was so good because it wasn't only Batman vs Joker, but Bale vs Ledger as well
I just want to take a moment to clarify that Henry V is pronounced as 'Henry the fifth' not 'Henry five'. He was the fifth King Henry - it's not a series of movies called Henry and this is the fifth installment.
Just a little pedantry on my part, nothing to be worried about or anything, I just thought you might find this helpful.
I was wondering why no one mentioned this.
Honestly Terminator Salvation is really not bad if you compare it to the slop of the newest terminator movies
And the Window moves and moves.
Its GREAT compared to woke fate.
I agree. It is the 3rd best Terminator movie- pt1 and 2 are the first.
I think it's even more amazing that he's played these characters that any other actor would end up stuck with yet we don't go that's the Patrick Bateman guy or the Batman guy. Unlike so many actors, we know him by his name.
Hehe 13:15 Christian was released on Bale.
💯
Was looking for the released on Bale comment, lol
His best performance for me is Howl in Howl's Moving Castle, his voice fits the character so well.
lol true nobody really mentions this but playing a love-stricken wizard pretty boy who is also kind of a loser for half the runtime by just voice acting is somehow my favourite role of his. helps that i have a soft spot for that movie (and it is my favourite animated movie anyway) but maybe its because it’s different from the roles i usually see him in hollywood. not to say his live action roles aren’t impressive, i honestly find it much so bc of what he does for those movies, but having a normal actor try voice acting usually doesn’t deliver as well as a seasoned voice actor but he still pulled it off even then.
"There you are sweetheart, sorry I'm late. I was looking everywhere for you.” - Christian bale.
No mention of Equalibrium and he had an excellent performance in it. He was more badass in Equalibrium than the Dark Knight Trilogy.
So many great movies. CB is Definitely one of my favorites. Especially after "Equilibrium"
Without Christian Bale, Equilibrium would have been a complete trainwreck. His acting pulled the film and drew you in.
@@brevethi think the movie would've been entertaining without a great performance, but Bale elevated the movie with his performance, no doubt.
I think, he is the best actor of our century
It's a crime that the still doesn't have an Oscar for the main role
He is a great, dedicated actor, because I remember his roles but know nothing about this private life. As it should be.
Equalibrium is so underrated. Its a futuristic movie that touches on current events of sorts showing the direction humanity has already started going towards. Even moreso currently. Its one of those movies that actually predict the future with really good accuracy as things play out. Like a real life moving documentary.
Naw it's not underrated... it's a matrix ripoff that borrowed from Fahrenheit 451. I always liked it, but you gotta call a spade a spade
Bro what that movie is great
@@GraveEnd i didn't say it wasn't.. I said what I said which is 100 percent accurate
@@JohnRapheal7 I agree with this, but I also unashamedly love it.
Man, I loved Henry Five. They say sequels degrade in quality as they go, but I'd say Henry Five was absolutely on par with Henry One.
Also I'm from Whale.
I am still mad at Marvel how they wasted his talent in Thor: Love and Thunder. There was so much potential in that role...
3:10 to Yuma deserves a mention, crazy how it’s always overlooked!!

13:14 is funnier than it has any right to be. I actually snorted out loud
The movie was good, made me look up and read the book. Can’t compare books with movies..
@@Emmanuel-f4o4x yeah, because here the book was way better.
It’s pretty funny how they are hating on his acting and the characters he plays 😭😭 like bro Frl down to earth man he like one of them dads you don’t expect to have such wise words but he does
There really isn’t 1 negative word you can say re: bale in terms of ***pure acting ability*** real+talk 💯
The Dark Knight was so electric because of the method acting. Bale and Ledger in the interrogation scene are riveting.
Equilibrium is one of the most underrated movies for sure!
Bale is the best of his generation. He blew my mind in Empire of the Sun and has done so ever since.
Henry 5. Not the bombastic fun of Henry 4, or the critical darling that was Henry(Henry 1 to the fans).
Haha I hear there’s a prequel in the works 😊
On the reals, is that like a European thing? I always read Roman numerals with a name as "the fifth," etc. But that might just be my American showing. 🤭
@@orangetaho4u207 It is supposed to be ordinal (eg "the fifth"), they're joking because "Henry Five" makes it sound like the fifth installment of a series, instead of a film about Henry the Fifth, who was, indeed, the fifth King Henry.
@SirRebrl Thank you. That was my assumption. I just had to be sure. 🤭 Try to cover my American and make it show even more. 😆
got jumpscared by roger while drinking😂
Heath ledger was great but this man was day in and day out consistent in his roles. If I had 1% of this man’s discipline I’d be ultra wealthy. Hall of fame actor for sure.
Christian Bale is one of a kind. My wife didn’t really want to, but she sat down to watch Ford Vs Ferrari, she doesn’t know anything about cars, racing, or even film. That film blew her away, she now says it’s her favorite film ever.
Christian Bale got out on Bail. His arc is now complete.
He is such a good actor. I legitimately didn't even know he was in Thor lol
Somehow Rowan Atkinson being Bale's inspiration and muse makes Bale even better
Its safe to say that bale carry the whole movie thor love and thunder
Bale and Daniel Day Lewis are among the greatest actors of this era. There have been many great actors however.

Seriously.
My opinion is mine. If you have a differing opinion write it down. Just remember there is a difference between opinion and fact.
My favorite character of his will always be John Preston from Equilibrium. Such an awesome and underrated movie 🙂👍
Impressive.
Now let's see Paul Allen's paradox.
dude bale is a phenomena that will never reoccur
I agree with you.
Loved him in Henry Five.
😅🤣
As a kid Christian Bale had to support his family since his dad was sick and he developed a hate/love-relationship to acting. Because he felt the pressure he had to continue acting to support his own family as a young kid. But that's not mentioned in the video. I think it's an important part of his story!
He's my generation's Brando.
Many would agree with you on that comparison! Christian Bale's talent and versatility certainly make him a standout actor of his generation.
brando was a r@pist and overall one of the worst even among hollywood creeps of that times. so no, bale is not brando
@@tanyamoretz I meant with acting good lord, I never said he and Brando were the same damn person. F off.
The Nolan Batman Trilogy will always be one of my favourites since it includes 2 of the best Character actors to ever exist. Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. Gary Oldman who happens to be my favourite Actor and Christian who is damn near close to that pole Position as well.
"Henry Five" sounds like the fifth sequel of Henry
You mean the fourth sequel? Fifth in a series...
He's gotta be the number one celebrity where you are stunned he's not american when you learn that he is Welch or whatever he is.
Welch's grape for sure
unreal ignorance hes welsh from wales
Bruh when he won his Oscar and gave his speech in that Welsh accent I thought he was just staying method throughout his life for whatever movie he was doing at the time, which I thought was super stupid and ridiculous but IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when I googled him immediately and found out he was Welsh.
He's English; just born in Wales to his English parents, and moved away before he was two.

oh wow, i never knew Bale and Atkinson worked extensively together! this explains everything!
It’s a crime not to mention equilibrium when discussing his career. And the prestige, both great films.

I can’t see Leo playing this role.
It’s like watching the Pope play Adolf Hitler?
So Christian is a dedicated actor, and takes his acting serious. ❤
I understand what you mean. Christian Bale is known for his dedication to his roles, and casting can make a big difference in how we perceive a character. He definitely brings a unique intensity to his performances.

Out of the Furnace had the most incredible acting I've ever seen. From the whole cast involved. I think I'd watch anything Christian is in.
You missed Equillibrium. He did Gun Fu before John Wick. I still love that movie with him in it.

American Hustle is my fave Bale film
Great video that highlights the challenges faced by Bale. The part about dealing with family with your ambitions hit very close to home.
Just one issue, Bale's latest movie is The Pale Blue Eye.
