Jake and Christian Bale are by far my favourite actors working today. They both just feel so incredibly genuine with their performances. All their characters feel like completely different people. People often name Leonardo DiCaprio as the best actor alive and while I think he’s a great actor, all his characters have that same thing going on. Jake's resume is insanely impressive. He deserves to be talked about amongst the greats (your Hanks, DiCaprio, etc). Sadly the movies he absolutely nails are lesser known to the Christopher Nolan or David Fincher vehicles that in the aftermath ensure the leads are smack in the spotlight. Probably among my top 3 favorite actors of all time that consistantly display top notch talent on screen. Just rewatched Nocturnal Animals and holy s#*t does it remind me that rewatching his earlier stuff will be well worth the time (actually Amy Adams as of late too while I'm on this film).

I had the opportunity to wait on him and his sister back in 2016 or 17 where I worked in NYC. Nice place with lots of celebrity/VIP clientele. They were really cute doing the sib thing as well as being generous tippers and polite to the waitstaff.
Jake is one of those actors I always give a film with him in it a watch. I like his selection of projects, and the characters he attempts to portray. He dips his toe into big blockbusters here and there, which is good for his brand, but for the most part he will choose a role based on if it moves him it seems, and I’ll always give it a go
I can't say this enough, I've seen A LOT of movies, but zodiac is still my favorite of all time. Every performance is just top notch. It's just magical

Jake Gyllenhall in the film industry, is the equivalent of Lana Del Ray in the music industry. Talented, never afraid to take risks, and for some reason, never truly recognised.

I'm going to college soon and tho I'm will be studying pre law, I've always been fascinated over theater and how many of my favorite actors start off in theater and I too have that dream of becoming an actress. thank you for this quality video
Beautiful face Gorgeous eyes Luscious beard Character creation level hair Intense charisma Unique acting talent The man definitely won the genetic lottery
I love the video and listening to Jake in those brief moments point out what he believes is interesting as well as glimpses into process was fantastic. The only thing I would be careful for when doing future analysis videos is throwing around the term “Method Acting” which is a good term to use but wildly over used and not necessarily depicted accurately within given circumstances. When you said he went method to relate to the characters he’s simply looking within himself allowing himself to relate and using the dialogue, setting, etc, as clues to solve this puzzle and form behavior. I believe he is one of the best at truly doing, and having his perspectives clear, simple and specific. Method isn’t the end all be all but it is an umbrella for process. We as actors learn and use for ourselves that process. Great video!
Jake Gyllenhaal shaped me as a person and as an artist, many of ma favourite movies are the ones with him in the main role but I can never choose just one because all of them were so influential to me, but if I had to name a few that stand out to me are Donnie Darko, Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler and Nocturnal Animals and one of these perfomances absolutely should've won him an Oscar, his career went down for me after 2016, they weren't bad movies, Life and Spider-Man are fun but they just don't hit the same as the ones I've named, nonetheless Jake Gyllenhaal remains one of the best actors of his generation and his almost uninterrupted back to back to back to back hits from 2004's The Day after Tomorrow to 2016's Nocturnal Animals is a insane line up of movies for just one actor, he simply just doesn't miss... I thought a video about actors who transitioned from blockbusters to indie art films like Robert Pattinson after Twilight, Daniel Radcliffe after Harry Potter and Andrew Garfield after Spider-Man would be interesting cause I always see people talking about it but nobody really goes in depth and I haven't really seen a video on this topic
i JUST finished watching brokeback mountain and immediately knew it was one of my favorite movies ive ever watched. then, i realized that most of my favorite movies have one thing in common: jake gyllenhaal is in them. his talent is unbelievable and i truly think hes one of the best male actors of this generation.
Every time I watch your videos, I end up adding ten new titles to my watchlist 😅. Awesome content, keep it coming! My request would be a special about the director of The Witch. I love his style and he took slow burners to a new level.
I loved Jakes performance in nocturnal animals, it was the first film that I had seen him really change his role, i watch mostly his militia films but Nocturnal Animals showed me entirely new skills that I loved ❤❤ def deserves some rewards
It's also remarkable that his voice is really quite soft and non-descript. A large part of many iconic actors is either their very recognisable voice, or very versatile voice work. Half the time Gyllenhaal sounds like he's talking through a sock to me, yet i still agree he's one of the best in the game, he excels so much in other aspects.
Awesome video, The first Jake Gyllenhaal movie that I saw was Donnie Darko, and it's still one of my favorite movies til this day. The soundtrack is legendary and so atmospheric. Listening to any song from it immediately teleports me back into that world.
Everything I have seen him has moved me in immense ways, so deeply profound. He is the personification of genius and beauty- absolutely adore his films and everything about him. Fortunate are those who have the privilège of calling him friend. Just a masterpiece of a human being.

I had the opportunity to wait on him and his sister back in 2016 or 17 where I worked in NYC. Nice place with lots of celebrity/VIP clientele. They were really cute doing the sib thing as well as being generous tippers and polite to the waitstaff.
He looks like a different person in every movie
Definitely deserves at least 1 Oscar and probably several.
Jake is the real deal, never lets the side down
*I believe he'll get that Oscar...
i am so IN love with jake i know it sounds stupid but i really like him a lot i was so hooked since darko always rewatching his movies over and over again!
I'm so glad you brought up Demolition. It really is so very underrated and beautifully acted.
Please do more of this type of videos, loved the Ryan gosling one has well. Should do Christian Bale next.
True, please do Ryan Gosling & David Duchovny next
@@Josep_Hernandez_LujanI already made a vid about Ryan
@@DuCinema1Thanks for replying, I'll it up.
Can you do David though? Just asking :)
Keep up the good work! Love your content
He's usually in interesting films, so he's kinda like a brand in itself where I want to watch a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal in it.
Enemy, Source Code, Nightcrawler are my favorite. Even his mainstream ones like Prince of Persia, it was quite entertaining.
Enemy! That is it. I could not remember the name. These + Brokeback M. are my favourits.
He's been one of my favorite actors of the modern age since I saw him in Donnie Darko, man I loved that movie it felt like my childhood.
Jake Gyllenhall in the film industry, is the equivalent of Lana Del Ray in the music industry.
Talented, never afraid to take risks, and for some reason, never truly recognised.
his performance in JarHead(2005) is still my top 5 all-time favorite performances from him
13:05 absolutely insane, made me tear up randomly
Thanks to this video i got to know him...Watched 7 of his movies already and n number of interviews (haven't watched Prisoners/Nightcrawler yet saving the best for the last) I'm obsessed 🥺 JG got a new fan from India 🇮🇳✨
Brock back mountain, Stronger, Prisoners, and Donnie Darko, are such emotional performances. Great films that get me to cry.
Please continue these deep dives, they are really entertaining and you always find underrated gems that are worth watching.
Definitely one of my favourite actors of all time never seen him put in a bad performance and I agree he's too good to be considered underrated but in 30 years I think he will be remembered as one of the greats.
I am so happy that Donnie managed to become successful despite the Schizophrenia.
The guilty was by far one of my favorite movies ever, you could feel his emotions through a headset
I'll always regret not seeing Nightcrawler in theaters. Was too young to go by myself and too young to appreciate how good it'd really be
Nightcrawler is such a dark movie. Underrated
1. interstellar
2. prisoners
3. the perks of being a wallflower
4. nightcrawler
5. zodiac
i love how Jake Gyllenhaal is in 3 out of 5 of my favorite movies ever. fvccing love that guy.
1:52 bro took that as a sidequest😆
what a beautiful, genius video. he is an amazing talented actor and he is definitely one of my favorite actors, i always love to look up their oldest projects they worked on either as a kid, young adult and see their growth in acting. I'm going to college soon and tho I'm will be studying pre law, I've always been fascinated over theater and how many of my favorite actors start off in theater and I too have that dream of becoming an actress. thank you for this quality video
So awesome to hear! 🙏🙏
Always appreciated Jake's work, just seems like someone who loves storytelling.
Thanks for this. im going to watch a bunch of movies with Jake Gyllenhaal now.
Beautiful face
Gorgeous eyes
Luscious beard
Character creation level hair
Intense charisma
Unique acting talent
The man definitely won the genetic lottery
Donnie Darko might just be my favorite film of all time. Watched it at like 1am some random day during lockdown and it hit me close to home fr
Nightcrawler, Prisoners, Jarhead, End of Watch, Nocturnal Animals, all flawless performances. He’s incredible.
I had to do a little Jake marathon before watching this video, adds to both reflecting on the movies and enjoying your videos, worth it.
He was born for acting.
October Sky. Still one of my fav films ever.
Haha amazing to hear, thank you! Robert Eggers is indeed a very interesting director to analyze 🤔 who knowss
He's my favorite actor right now. Nightcrawler and Prisoners are my favorite of his movies
It's always an interesting performance, no matter what kind of movie he's in
One of my favorite actors. Thanks for giving Jake some love.
His movies are amazing. I think I watched almost all of them
Just watched Demolition and absolutely loved it! I recommend to everyone who loves movies
0:26 “I wouldn’t say he’s an underrated actor, but in my opinion, his work doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.” Sooooo, you’d say he’s underrated?
Thans for this video, it was very much needed for Jake Gyllenhaal. An amazing actor!
I see Jake Gyllenhaal, I click. Incredible actor, one of the best. Nightcrawler should have got him an Oscar. That's probably my favourite of his but I honestly like pretty much everything I've seen him in, like I said, I see he's in it and I watch it and I always enjoy. Supreme talent.
