The very first game on PS1, my dad was the one that got me in to the series really made me like it for a game that makes you think not a run gun shootem up.
RE1 remake really is the perfect RE game. A lot of newer gamers don’t understand just how incredible these graphics were back then. The atmosphere was unparalleled and the balance of combat to horror is just in the sweet spot of where the franchise thrives.
Oh hell yeah, definitive Resident Evil 1. I played on GameCube originally and that little cube has alot of graphical power. RE1 is still my first go-to yeah even over four. Perfect pacing and perfect horror experience
If we all genuinely have a love to talk anything Resi, we'd all be able to share the same space with one another comfortably, regardless of political leaning. I aspire to be like the 3 onscreen, & so should you
My favourite RE game will always be RE1 directors cut on PS1... The Spencer Mansion was a safe place for the S.T.A.R.S which quickly became their worst nightmare...
I was born in late 80s and collected PS1 games in 2000, I remember owning Resident Evil 2 & 3 in 2000, 1 of my friends had Resident Evil: Gun Survivor. PS2/Xbox generation I didn't play anymore video-games, which means I missed Resident Evil 4, but now I own PS5 with Resident Evil 4: Remake.
Resi Evil 1 remake on GameCube, man the fever and my excitement for it was on a level like no other😂😅. On a side note back in my twenties I fell asleep in my REALLY soft chair and controller in hand playing RE1 remake during safe room music. One to many beers that night 😂😂. Also a sad day as a Dead space fan but EA turned down Dead Space 4 pitch😢
My favorite thing I've watched from you all. Loved the discussion and approach to all the RE games here. Critical was a great guest and had the experience and knowledge to really add to the conversation.
Remake 2 is perfect, even with some shortcomings. No one can change my mind on that. The remakes of 1, 2, and 4 are superior to the originals. I wish I could include 3 in that.
Resident Evil 4 was a fun game, but it didn't feel like Resident Evil to me. Resident Evil 2 Remake shows that slow zombies and spooky atmosphere is still the OG flow even with new age game mechanics..
there is a fanfiction called familiar evil starts before RE2R and RE3R to during RE2R and RE3R without stepping main characters toes it needs a audiobook
Re7 was my intro to Resi, so I have a warm spot for Ethan. However I will say RE1 remake is one of the most enjoyable games in the series. On a tier list, personally only 3 characters are S tier: Jill, Leon and Albert Wesker.
1:31:39 Miranda being Spencer's teacher isn't a retcon. It's an origin story. A retcon is when you rewrite established lore. Up until Village, we knew nothing about Spencer's life prior to him founding Umbrella. Is it goofy? Perhaps, but a retcon? No. It doesn't change anything. @@Elvisbackpack *"It's still technically a retcon because of the fact that I highly doubt it was invented until Village was being written."* That doesn't mean anything. Capcom has been making up the Resident Evil lore as they go along since day one. It's never been planned out. *"Most people think retcons are synonymous with contradictions, which is wrong."* From Oxford Dictionary: "In a fictional work or series: a piece of new (and typically revelatory) information which imposes *a different interpretation on previously described events,* often employed to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency; (also) use of this as a narrative device." Get this. When I was a kid in the late 90s early 2000s, I could have sworn at some point that Mr X had a fedora. I don't know which version I played but it was definitely during Claire's scenario only and Mr X had a fedora. Turn down I might have been hit with some kind of Mandela effect. Let me tell you, my dad and I both freaked out when Mr X had a fedora in the remake.
Capcom really found their form again with RE7 which afforded them a level of confidence moving forward. I personally think despite a couple of minor shortcomings RE2R edges out OG RE2. Mr X free roam and Sherry's new section being prime examples of welcome additions. RE4R is the version that really got me into RE4 in general. It dialled up the horror a touch, felt like world building improved and just landed in a way OG RE4 never did for me. Great discussion all round and interesting to get Drinker's take as well. Cheers
Tbh I disagree COMPLETELY with the idea of "ending the franchise" or "wrapping it up" its entirely possible to give respected characters good send offs while continuing the story with NEW beloved characters in their place. Frankly I think if they had plans of wrapping up the franchise they wouldnt be putting more effort into it than ever before with remakes etc. It seems like they are instead laying the ground work for ANOTHER 30 years of RE if you ask me. Remaking the games for modern audiences to get into the franchise is a great way to do that. The simple reality is money talks and the Resident Evil name makes a ton of money. I REALLY dont see the franchise going anywhere anytime soon. I really hope it doesnt either, whether they end up more on the horror or action side these games are almost always bangers.
In resident evil eight I found Heisenberg’s environment, the most boring but when I played resident evil in VR, it became my tide favorite to the castle Just seeing the close details of the bio, mechanical monsters, all the pipes and steam the machinery concrete metal it’s a lot better in VR
Kind of a weird opinion at the end to say you want the franchise to end? Anyway, the franchise isn't going anywhere, Resident Evil is just too big of a name for that to happen.
For me the OG RE3 is the BEST RE of all time :) We have Jill as the single protagonist pretty much (except when we play as Carlos), The exploration of the war torn and zombie infested RC, cool puzzles, the best mercenaries mode that's super challenging, path choice options which alter the game paths and ending, awesome weapons and of course NEMESIS :)
Lol @ you being a crybaby that's soiling themself over people not liking having an alt right grifter on the channel, with them using their free speech to voice their concern over something that doesn't affect you at all.
RE1 remake is Resident Evil perfected, the original is great and RE2 and CV are close. The Winters series has to be my least favorite of them all, and I agree with Drinker in that RE3 really pushed the limits of the old gameplay and camera angles as Nemesis was very agile. I always loved RE4, but over the years I also appreciate RE5 and RE6 more. Still need to play the Survivor and Outbreak games.
I agree completely with things kind of going off the rails with RE:0 and RE4 as far as the overall storylines go, and outside of an exception here and there it's been rough going since. The expression "Lost the plot" might be the most applicable to RE as a series. For whatever reason it seems to be way too common in Japanese games to introduce weird outlandish sci-fi elements (possibly because it's so common in anime and other games), as if everyone's trying to be the next Kojima but they're all stuck on "I LIVE ON THROUGH THIS ARM!!" levels of nonsense. They had a relatively-grounded story about an evil corporation that unleashed a zombie virus and the apocalyptic downfall of an entire city that followed. You had conspiracies, betrayals, and shadowy actors pulling strings behind the scenes. It was perfect. But we moved into shape-shifting leeches and animated suits of armour and gigantic ogres and superpowered god-humans and mold-monsters and vampires and werewolves and on and on, but the worst of all might be that these everyday heroes we had--whether a specialized division of the city police force, a woman riding into town on her motorcycle as all hell is breaking loose, or a rookie cop on his first day of the job--have been transformed into bicycle-kicking, boulder-punching one-man-armies that literally fly through the air like anime characters. The RE2 remake gave me hope that there's still some sense left in some of the creatives involved, but otherwise I'll go back to REmake or Outbreak for a real Resident Evil experience. It feels like without a total reimagining from the beginning, the mutant opera-singing mold-horse has left the barn.
Resident evil 10 needs to bring in a new cast of characters unless in resident evil nine they find a way to give the characters some form of indefinite life extension. Also, what are y’all talking about? Eliminating all the bio weapons lol that’s never gonna happen. That’s like saying you’re gonna find a way to eliminate all nuclear weapons or find a way to eliminate all guns or find a way to eliminate all knives, etc. lol
Brilliant video and it’s great to know my favourite RE gamers aren’t into all that weird woke leftist garbage. (Sorry to be petty, you’ve just taken some flack for having a very knowledgeable and nostalgic RE guest on. You can tell he loves it as much as we do).

I think the first two games are the real RE games including the Remake. RE3 turned me off with the introduction of Nemesis. This is not a popular opinion bc most people like Nemesis, but I think Mr X was a better version of that kind of character. He fit the methodical incoming doom the series had going for it. Nemesis feels like a cheat character added by the developers. He was the start of the series becoming over the top. RE4 was a fun action game, but I don't like that they bypassed the Umbrella story arc. I feel there was still more stories to tell. Code Veronica was not a good game for the reasons Critical Drinker states. It is only saved, imo, by CVX where we get to see more Chris and Wesker confrontation. RE5 is good for the same reasons like 4, but the story was lost to me from that point on. It got very convoluted trying to make all the games connect with the different viruses. I think the animated movies does the games/series a disservice. They could try to tell a story in the timeline better suited as a cinema experience than a video game, but just turn it into action slop. I haven't watched it all, so I might not be in a position to judge, but it doesn't look like those movies were memorable by any means. They could tell a story before RE2 where the remaining officers try to survive the RPD with only Marvin remaining, but I wouldn't trust the people behind the animated movies or live action doing it.

Disappointing. CD hasnt already been shown to be a fake "fan" of things he's "called out." Checking out now to miss you whine about DEI, pronouns, woke culture or whatever you bring grifters on for.
All those things you listed are real things effecting the entertainment industry, therefore its not just a "grift" no matter what your brain rotted internet noodle says. You act like hes taking over the channel and not here to just talk about video games LMAO. You people are beyond laughable... truly from the bottom of my heart friend: Keep living in your world of denial, keep the tears flowing, and keep being wrong. 🤣
Lmao more like known for being based. Id go out on a limb and say this comment may not be here if he were on the other side of the aisle. Regardless I completely disagree fundamentally with that idea that just because someone may have political opinions you disagree with you cant sit down and have a completely unrelated conversation about video games. I truly respect creators who dont care what cry bullies online have to say and talk to and be friends with who they want. This mentality is beyond toxic, actually watch his content and what he has to say instead of listening to the internet mob and taking their word on what hes "known for" being 😂
Village is a he temu version of RE4, our hero is in a European background trying to rescue a female while purchasing weapons from a merchant and at times being helped by someone from the past who's intentions are murky at first 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Less a temu version and more just a redo of the same concept. Temu implies a lower quality and unless youre wearing rose-tinted glasses, i woudlnt say village is a lesser version of Re4

This is a nerdy Christmas dream.
Disappointing. CD hasnt already been shown to be a fake "fan" of things he's "called out." Checking out now to miss you whine about DEI, pronouns, woke culture or whatever you bring grifters on for.
"Disappointing". Like you even watched 5 minutes of this video before you hurried up on your soapbox to write this comment
Been following you guys for years, be careful who you collab with, it might affect your rep.
Drinker's known online for being a hardcore rightwinger.
This mentality is beyond toxic, actually watch his content and what he has to say instead of listening to the internet mob and taking their word on what hes "known for" being 😂
You say that as if it was bad lmao. Rightwingers = normal. Leftwingers = crazy.
@@DojoMaster-ud7qi your mindset proves that isnt true
W collab, be well all of you.
Not this grifter
Grifter = anyone i disagree with
Village is a he temu version of RE4, our hero is in a European background trying to rescue a female while purchasing weapons from a merchant and at times being helped by someone from the past who's intentions are murky at first 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Less a temu version and more just a redo of the same concept. Temu implies a lower quality and unless youre wearing rose-tinted glasses, i woudlnt say village is a lesser version of Re4
