  • 12 Rotor engine doing some low power test runs on the dyno. The Carb would not flow enough for more then 2000 rpm. Working on the fuel injection and turbo setup now.

    Got a funny feeling that's intended to go in a boat.

    I just want to clarify that I re-found you through Rob Dahm, however I did see this video in the year it came out and I still believe it is as immaculate as it was the first time I saw it.
    I have had the pleasure of working alongside Matasaburo Maeda's own son, Ikuo Maeda who were the creators of the RX series for Mazda.
    Alongside the pleasure of working with Ikuo, I had shown him this video as a demonstration on just how far this technology can and will go. Him and I had both agreed that this will be a crucial engine to the advancement of the internal combustion engine's future, especially in it's PTW ratio.
    By far, I am truly amazed even to this day by your ingenuity and I hope everything finds you well.
    Take care of yourself, Tyson.

    Ugh design a tube frame chassis for this and lets see the awesomeness. This much of an achievement needs to be rolling.

    So glad they're working with Rob Dahm to bring this Engine to its highest potential. It's 2023 and engine ecu have come a long way in tunability 🙌

    In case anyone is curious about the water leaking out of the wall outside, it's because it's a boat engine....doesn't use a radiator, just draws water up, runs it through the engine to soak up heat, and then expels it again. An open-cycle cooling system. They must have a tank of water in there with a hose going to it.

      @racer774 9 лет назад +9

      I'm sure they have a direct water line with a shutoff valve since this is a marine specialty racing shop. A spigot, if you will, similar to what you would hook your water hose up to for lawn watering. This will be quite interesting when the injectors are installed and properly set up. I will search for that right now.

    What would these guys do without the advice given here. They wouldn't have ever thought of changing the carbs out for fuel injection after testing (as said in description) without this valued input. They just built a 12 rotor, but now they need help. LOL!

    When I saw a 6 rotor, I was like, ok awesome but at some point we're gonna run out of engine bay front to back, when is someone gonna do a banked setup. Awesome project can't wait to see it Injected, and installed.

      It's going in a racing boat. I don't think the engine bay is a limitation.

    gonna need a couple 120mm turbos and a LOT bigger throttle bodies. those 12 rotors will flow more than a 10 liter piston engine.

    When you say that the carb would not flow enough for more than 2000 rpm, if you were to successfully get a fuel injection to work, what kind of gas mileage are we talking about here, 6 gallons to the mile? :-)

    • @TysonGarvin
      @TysonGarvin  8 лет назад +25

      +Spiro Balourdos We ran the engine up to 8000 rpm but the carb was flowing its maximum air flow at 2000 rpm and any rpm over that is not going to make any more power.

    I'd love to see how this thing is put together.... I assume given there is 3 harmonic balancers you've got three "banks" of four rotors? But how are you connecting the drive from each bank to sequence the thing?
    It is am incredible bit of gear!! Well done...
    When the injection system is done will you run it NA to see what it can do?
    I'll guess 1382hp all motor.... 1893hp with the turbo system and you won't need to lean on it too hard for that!!
    All the best sir!
    Subbed and waiting for updates :-)

  • @pancudowny
    @pancudowny 8 лет назад +14

    Oh, you ARE injecting & turbo-charging it!... Cool. And judging by those water-cooled headers, I'd say you intend to put it in a boat. I just hope for your effort's sake it can hang with the turbine-powered jobs... because it looks like it could be the perfect middle-ground hit between a turbine's thrust & speed, and a piston-engine's throttle-response.

    Couple of questions, it is a banked system correct? Well how do you link the power from each bank? Like in a piston engine it's all connected but I can't figure out how that would work on a rotary. Care to explain? Also how much has this awesome little project coat you and what's it goin into?

  • @musskeeterbump

    if a naturally aspirated 6 rotor puts out 850 + hp
    this thing could easily spew 1,000+ hp when fully tuned

  • @V8VRUte
    @V8VRUte 9 лет назад +10

    Good to hear you're going injected, the carbie is too far from the ports for good throttle response, fuel injection should be awesome.

  • @gman68137
    @gman68137 9 лет назад +6

    Why not use headers instead of a single manifold exhaust? Something to do with a boat application? Rotaries run good at high rpm…expect some kind of reduction gearing. Also wondering what kind of transmission you'd use to the prop.

  • @jacobeldredege6352
    @jacobeldredege6352 10 лет назад +7

    This doesn't even sound like a rotary. It sounds better.

  • @Mario-G-Man
    @Mario-G-Man 10 лет назад +5

    Independent throttle bodies (ITB's) would make it run smoothly. Of course, with a good computer also! Would make it sound even better too! Try that. There's nothing like the revving power of a rotary engine with ITB's! 8^)
