Any update on this? Part 2 coming? I’m hoping that the new Arcade1up Atari 12-in-1 can be updated to include Lunar Lander that was included in the old 12-in-1, but not in the newest version.
This is cool. But really all I want is to add 1 or 2 favorite games or swap out a couple roms already on the PCB and play them with the emulator/front end already there. In other words I want it to look like a “stock” A1Up cabinet that happens to have a couple extra games.
I've been trying to learn how to add one or two games to my arcade. Not really tech savvy with modding but really interested with how this plays out. Looks really promising
nice work Restalgia! there are brilliant minds at work as I was featuring Rob2D from @The Code Always Wins and his hacked A1up Marvel vs Capcom running RetroArch and Street Fighter 3rd Strike. Keep up the good work!
That is so awesome can't wait for more videos on this this would be cool with an outrun cabinet to put more driving games on it keep up the good work sir and thanks for adding me on the Nintendo switch🤓👍🏻
Please - Any update on this? Anything you can share at all? I lot of us REALLY want to add or change games on our cabs. I actually bought the MS pacman you showed here, hoping I can mod/hack it. I also bought a few others with the micro usb port hoping they can be modded as well.
wow! I mean even if I could only delete galaxian and replace it with galaga (instead of having to fork over 500 bucks for the class of '81 I was SO pissed cus I had JUST gotten the vanilla ms. pac-man when it was announced) and galaga was definitely the other one I would have wanted on it. then it would definitely be my dream machine!! but I'll subscribe and keep an eye out for future updates on this project for sure.
Has there been a 2nd video? I looked all over for it and didnt see it. I'm super interested in seeing one. I was able to see all of the roms on my Ms. Pac-Man machine that I cant play.
patiently awaiting more news on this, I am praying for this bootloader you spoke of :) but even just swapping out roms is fine... sux that they are proprietary altered :(
I just purchased the super pac-man from Costco and was hoping to do just this and load more games. Hopefully from 1up themselves. I just received the outrun cabinet today. There is a FW patch there as well. Now I will go in and check to see if there is anything else for this board.
I'm looking through more recent videos and don't see any updates on this specifically. Did you get a cease and desist comment? If not or something else I hope this becomes public as it would be nice to play any game on just one of their cabinets. I just watched a guy add a usb cable to get to the mame settings.
I did find the nes roms in the Mega Man update but assumed that the buttons/controls would be all messed up and I didn't look into it after that since I don't have anything to test it on. Ionly have a Golden Tee (modded with the 2006 Golden Tee Fore arcade board) and a AFM pinball cab so I couldn't really try it out. Anyway, makes sense that they're kind of setup in a cookie cutter format! Hopefully the rumored virtual pinball updates are the same way! Even if it's just flashing an image for another cab.
Hey I watched Super Game Room Dudes the other day and subscribed and was browsing through your videos and ran across this one. I had an Asteroids Deluxe cabinet that had a major glitch on the title game. Asteroids Deluxe only had 2 lives but on my Tempest cabinet it’s fixed and has 3 lives. I’m wondering is it possible to take the fixed rom from Tempest and put it on Asteroids Deluxe?
It would in theory be possible but not easy. effectively you'd need to dump the firmware from asteroids and tempest, swap the rom files and recompile a new firmware and side load it. Unfortunately it's not really something I'd recommend or be able to help with as it's requires a significant amount of effort.
Your video involves hacking the 8220 model of Ms. Pac-Man arcade 1up. Will this hack work on the other Ms. Pac-Man arcade 1up model numbers (8266, 8267, etc.)?
Very cool! Have you gotten dumps from the Capcom or Midway legacy cabs yet? Would love to be able to swap out some of the 6 versions of street fighter the Capcom one comes with for something else :)
Best Arcade1up video I have seen this year! So if the pac40th 7-1 runs the same emulator, would we be able to swap roms between cabs? Are we restricted to number of pages onscreen for games lists? Keep up the good work, love it!
Assuming they run on the same emulator, then yep you can pull from one machine and add to another. We can replace all stock menu or even add additional pages if needed
Hi Restalgia, I am looking forward to your success hack. So I can add some games to my TMNT cabinet or Street fighter or others without have to put raspberry pi in it. That will be so cool. 14 in 1 sound good too. and RetroArch laugher will be even better. Looking forward to your next video. Yes I am Subscribe to you for couple of years now. Hope to Hear some thing soon on Turbograpfx mini updated hack soon too.
Hey Restalgia, I saw that the developer you're working with has some personal projects that they are focusing on. And totally understand that making a whole new screen/interface isn't worth the effort. I own this countercade and have it up in my office for my employees. Just getting Galaga on there would be pretty amazing and welcome by everyone. Would you be able to make a tutorial just showing off what you did to make that work in this video? Or perhaps we can correspond via email. I'd sincerely appreciate it!
Regarding the arcade game ROMs inside the firmware images not being usable with third-party emulators, it is actually possible to split these files apart and reconstruct them into MAME and FBNeo-compatible ROMs. I've gotten every game working except for Galaga and Pac-Man Plus (which needs to be re-encrypted in order to work properly with MAME). I've written a shell script that will automatically do this for you, that I plan on releasing in the next few days. I'll post back here when it's ready :)
Ok, here's the extraction script: github.com/farmerbb/RED-Project/blob/master/ROM%20Extraction/arcade1up-extract.sh And documentation on how to use it: github.com/farmerbb/RED-Project/wiki/Arcade1Up-Firmware-Updates
Wow Stephen! So, this is clearly not something for Gen. 1 cabs correct? I may now look for a used FluffUp just for the purpose of following your mod journey! Hahaha
Is there anyway on Gallaga the no shoot trick it won’t work. I literally got it set it up a few days ago June 2023 and I did a lot of research see now the newer ones have been updated so doesn’t have the no shoot trick when you leave the left you on the side I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
Shoot, I had a Centipede 4-in-1 Partycade get the White Screen of Death. At first I wanted to put a Pi 4 in it to run some Sega Model 3 games, but then I found out (from reading) that Sega Model 3 runs slow, even on the latest and greatest Pi. The PCB still works even though the screen doesn't, and I'm toying with the idea of simply replacing the screen so I can play on that Partycade again---I own an AtGames Legends Ultimate cabinet that can play Centipede and Millipede and everything on that 4-in-1 and much much more, but I had more fun playing Centipede on the 4-in-1 than I did on that AtGames Legends Ultimate. Still, I feel like I should ask: do you still need PCBs? And would a 4-in-1 Partycade's PCB be any use to you?
You still working on this? Got my 1st cab arriving tomorrow and ready thinking about modding it with Batocera, but for now I'm just looking forward to clocking defender as I did back in the 80s.
Do you still need those boards I got a SF2 legacy cabinet and since I modded it with raspberry pi I doubt I'll have a use for the board. If you still need it lmk.
I have street fighter partycade it has USB A port on the control deck hopefully that will work . Retro arch would be cool and also maybe be able to add roms to the stock OS would be cool as well . Keep up the good work .
Would be very interesting to know what you had to do to get the 14 games in the folder to work. Its good to know thats its possible. Im going to play with it and see if what i can do with it. Thnx for the awareness.
Yeah this is really cool... I actually have a modded PlayStation Classic that runs RetroArch on my final fight cabinet and it’s fantastic... I have every game I could ever want to play 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I hope this turns out to be something. I just want to add some roms like I did with my mini Sega/Nintendo systems. Adding a PI and drilling holes for new buttons and what not is just way too much for me.
I have a Ms Pacman 5 in 1 pcb board with sd card slot and usb slot would love to add more games is there a video on how you set up games to board. If not willing to sell the board
Question for you. I have the big buck hunter game and I switched out the monitor for a big 40 inch tv and it works. The problem I have is some games cut in and out for a second. So if I am playing a game that I have to shoot the frogs over to the other side (kind of like frogger) The screen goes black for a second and comes back. It doesn't happen to all the games and when it does happen to certain games it does it like 1-4 times during the active game. Is there a way you can hack into 1up big buck hunter MB and change the NOSSC to freerun? Someone said that should fix it, even geekworm said it, but they said since 1up is a finish product it can't be done. At least they won't do it I should say. Any chance you can look into that if you have the big buck hunter? Thank you!
this is super interesting I hope to see an update as a retro arch launcher would save the hassle of the pi route. I have the same machine (minus dig dug on it) if this was to be released I’d want to swap out the control panel for games that require more buttons though.
Very cool indeed but...most people buy Arcade 1ups for the cabinet NOT to play tons of games. At Games and iircade are MUCH better options for that imo. But I guess it’s always good to have (more) options😊
So the next question is - can these guys figure out how to dump the firmware on the gen3 and up boards w/USB-mini port. If so, could be wide open. I'm not going to apply any official updates with my wifi cabs until the full potential is realized.
No, the devs I was working with unfortunately had some things keeping them busy in their personal lives so we had to take a hiatus on this. I am considering reaching out to another group of devs I've worked with in the past to help me get this back up and running.
So cool! So, Steve said the hack in this video and the 14-in-1 hack can't be released for legal reasons, but in stages 3&4 he could plan to release them. Did I hear that right? He's possibly going to release the hack later on...or he can't? I just want to unlock the 14 games in there already. I hope this ends up happening. I will grab the Ms.Pac soon if it's a go. Thanks. Keep up the great work.
This is badass, hope it’s the same for the 4 player cabs, who knows, maybe these guys who are way smarter than myself can figure out how to get the arcade version of Blitz on one of these...
Any update on this? Part 2 coming?
I’m hoping that the new Arcade1up Atari 12-in-1 can be updated to include Lunar Lander that was included in the old 12-in-1, but not in the newest version.
yeah me too!!! even if you end up not being able to accomplish your goal, it wuoold still be interesting to see how the process went.

Steven this is brilliant! I'm excited for the future of this universal system!!
This is cool. But really all I want is to add 1 or 2 favorite games or swap out a couple roms already on the PCB and play them with the emulator/front end already there. In other words I want it to look like a “stock” A1Up cabinet that happens to have a couple extra games.

Dang I just want three stuff in stage 1 bro just get the rest of the games unlocked for that cab.
This. I just want to add a few beat’em ups to my TMNT. Not add more buttons and what not.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I want too. To look and feel like a stock A1Up with extra games.
I've been trying to learn how to add one or two games to my arcade. Not really tech savvy with modding but really interested with how this plays out. Looks really promising

Brilliant work. A 4 player 1up would be perfect for all this. Looking forward to the next stages.
The Simpsons is 4 players, but you need extra steps or else they end up all being mapped to the same input.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
That is so awesome can't wait for more videos on this this would be cool with an outrun cabinet to put more driving games on it keep up the good work sir and thanks for adding me on the Nintendo switch🤓👍🏻
Was a soft mod ever completed for this? Currently trying to get Ms. Pacman on my Pacman box and trying to do what you were talking about.

Stage 5 of this hack doesn't cast a shadow
@@Restalgia I guess I'm here for stages 1-4 after all

Your video involves hacking the 8220 model of Ms. Pac-Man arcade 1up. Will this hack work on the other Ms. Pac-Man arcade 1up model numbers (8266, 8267, etc.)?
Yes once we get to stage 3, we plan to have this work on all usb port enabled a1ups
I would love a complete tutorial step by step for this.
Also really interested if this would work in my Space Invaders arcade1up cabinet.
Very interested in this concept. Would love to know more
Looking forward to a follow up on this!
I hope you get access to an Outrun PCB - would be amazing to add more racing games to the machine. Thanks for your work
