    Only bought the marvel vs capcom machine, the one with the special edition art, because that was the art I was planning on using for the sides of the custom build arcade I was planning, thought I would save a couple bucks by Frankenstein-ing it together with my plans. Turns out it was still a little too small for my six foot tall self😂 should’ve read the measurements more carefully I guess but I’ve still made it work.
    Nevertheless your video was quite enjoyable, well reasoned and structured, a good watch. Thumbs up from me

    The kool-aid wore off when they trippled the prices and the quality took a massive dive. The controls are cheap, the speakers are garbage, they're still using 14 inch displays when they should be at a 19 inch standard by now. If I'm paying $800/$900 for a 3/4 cabinet, it should be worth the $900. But, the quality has taken such a dive, I'm not interested in buying them anymore. I'm saving up for a legends ultimate, a1up by now should have opened a store front (since Gen 3 + have a micro SD card port) and started selling just the games to add to your cabinet instead of paying $800 for 2-5 games on 1 cabinet.

    I think the issue for most people who got in during the ground floor of Arcade 1UP is the fact that a lot of them feel dissatisfied. In terms of me, I'm kind of glad I waited because I get a complete experience with Mortal Kombat 2. Everything lights up, everything looks good, but if someone had the previous versions, you had to buy the riser, you had to do all this other stuff, and some of the other versions had issues, so I'm glad I waited.
    I think this is the version I wanted, the deluxe version, and that's what everyone wanted, so I can understand if people feel burnt out. I would feel burnt out too if I bought a little mini arcade and expected something that's bigger, that you're pretty much paying the same amount as what a new deluxe is.

    • @show-me-retro
      @show-me-retro  11 месяцев назад +1

      I will say the Deluxe's took a long time coming. I never liked the riser and the front panel artwork. However I still feel they are just too flimsy and the screens are just too small. Even if you mod them they still are what they are. As a decor piece in a man cave I think one or two is fine but I'm not a fan of mini arcades but that's just my two cents

    • @HisShadowX
      @HisShadowX 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@show-me-retro I'm in agreement. Again, I'm just very happy I waited for so long because I've been on the fence about buying these things and then I finally saw the deluxe one day and yeah, I'm just glad I got it now rather than buying the older ones and then feel like I wasted my money because that's all you see over RUclips. I mean a lot of RUclipsrs they do feel burnt out so you're not the only one and again your feelings are legitimate and they're shared with a lot of people who are again early adopters like yourself.
      I think as you mentioned you have people who don't own arcade one-ups who have kind of joined the conversation about whether or not arcade one-ups are good or not because you have a lot of people who are lurking who are very interested but are waiting for the right cabinet and honestly I feel this new version is the right cabinet. I only wish though that it included a store where you could buy more digital games and upload it on this set. That's just me.

  • @therealsmilebit
    @therealsmilebit 2 года назад +7

    The main reason people like A1Up is that you can just turn it on a play. There is something said about that.
    People say just get the actual arcade. You going to rent that truck for me and then help me move it in my home? Let alone the maintenance that nobody talks about with a purchase like that, particularly with CRT's and how dangerous those can be.
    Well then go to a vendor that builds multicades and buy that. Ok...still talking about 1000's of dollars for one that has all the controls and computer in there. And if it is less, then have to provide a monitor, computer and then start dealing with finding roms and emulators. Most poeple do not want to deal with a computer or raspberry pi for hours editing config files and adjusting setting just to get that extra frame dialed in so you can perform that Street Fighter move 1ms quicker.
    They just want to take the hour to build it, turn it on and play.
    I understand that this may not be for some people. I also understand that some of the things A1UP has done has turned them off to the product. But there is something to be said about just turning it on and playing the game.
    Are there some issues? Yes...not going to lie about this, but for some it is more of an issue than others. The online play for NFL Blitz for example. Should online have been out when the cab was released. Yes. However, some do not care because they do not use online and if they do, they will wait until it is available. Does this mean A1UP should have delayed online? No...NFL Blitz, and MVC2 were major snafu's as far as releases, but there are a number of buyers who do not think this is a big issue. Some weigh the faults higher than others and purchase accordingly.
    As for people lying...this is done on both sides of the debate. Take the wood quality issue. Even in the response in this chat, I hear people say it is 1/4" thick...it is particle board, which is not true. 1/2 MDF...may not be the quality MDF that you buy in Home Depot...but MDF. But people will still lie about it.
    At any rate, I will probably be roasted for this or be called an A1UP fanboy...and so be it...I do not care...at end of the day it is what you enjoy. If not yours, or anyone else's, cup of tea, fully understand that.
    A1UP has fumbled and hope they make it right. I like the products and will continue to buy.

    Great video, I bought the Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2 Cabinet and I will say this. It will definitely be the last time I ever preorder from them ever again. Worst experience ever and the fact that they went radio silent after everyone got their Blitz Cab really says a lot about them as a company. I treat these as furniture that looks nice in my room setup so something aren't really a big deal but it doesn't excuse the fact that they treat their customers with no ounce of respect with their products. So I won't be buying another Cabinet until I see some improvements from them. I did an unboxing vid of the MVC2 Cab and even had to mod the sticks and buttons, you're right I just don't know why they can't just come out the box with better sticks and buttons, it baffles me. I now have a second daughter who's 4 and she loves smacking around on it too. I spent $200 on the cab and about $250 on everything I've done to it since the initial purchase. I still check in to see if there are any other ones that make sense for me to make space for but so far I've pulled the trigger on none of them. Agree with size, home use comments
      Collecting vintage Golden Age CRT arcade games is a big undertaking, a niche of a niche.
      Weight, size and tech maintenance are too much for most people, same for full size pinball machines. So it's a hobby for dedicated tech oriented types, like guys who have been doing diy PCs or similar for years, including software, is and hardware maintenance.
      1up and atgames are targeted at the average consumer, with cost and components to match the market.
      Imo, it's a Good Thing the market is flooded with 1ups and similar,. Been seeing many on the craigslists and offerups of the world.
      This means lots of cabs and parts for collectors and diyets who want a base to mod from.
      A lot of us don't have or want a full woodworking shop with CNC machine to make a good looking cabinet.
      So it's finished flatpacks or used 1ups as a base.
      It's all good

    Hey man, you might remember me from way back. I REALLY appreciate this video. I get people all the time leaving me comments on my old videos about why I haven't really made any vids in 2 years. 2 years!! Well, I've made a couple, but most of them have just been quick little "here's an updated tour of my game room" (and one review, but it was the MVSX), but nothing at all for over a year now. This video you've made here basically sums it up and really hits home. Like you said, they look nice. That's about all you can say about them. And you can dump $2k in to modding the shit out of them, and you still have this tiny thing that's 5 feet tall and built out of 75% 1/8" MDF with a couple 1/2" panels. You can put all the lipstick you want on a pig, and it's still a pig. I loved A1Up's vision when it was all really early, and just like you, I bought the Marvel LE and felt they were going in the right direction, but since then, things have been all over the place. I'm not aligned with A1Up's vision anymore, whatever their vision even is, which is a bigger problem because we can't even tell. Thanks for the vid man!

      I'm sorry but they have changed. I bought an Arcade1up back when they first came out in September 2018 and EVERYONE new they were cheap, cookie cutter shape toys but that didn't matter because you can upgrade any parts you wanted and still came out cheaper than buying a real arcade or multicade. That created a huge boom for the arcade aftermarket.
      Today there are different shapes and sizes of cabinets, ever so slightly better parts, light up marquees, more powerful hardware to run more games, WIFI and many other things which resulted in Arcade1up pricing themselves out of a market they created.
      No one asked to make Arcade1up cabinets to be more like the real ones with better parts and light up marquees. I blame Arcade1up for listening to RUclipsrs for all this mess.

    When you promise things that are on the box and don't work as such, that's a major problem with promising things weeks to months (if at all) later. Having to put quality parts in after the fact when you can get a quality pre-made cab or DIY for the cost just defeats the purpose. You can only put out the same games so much before people take notice along with the huge quality issues in regards to functionality. Great video man. This is also someone who has five of their games and I won't be buying any more from them for the aforementioned reasons and for taking advantage of people not realizing they're getting a full game with the last two titles. And a "pro" version for almost $1000 is nearing actual arcade game prices. Many will be out on those alone.

    100% Agreed. I started getting into Arcade1up machines a few years back and have been in the process of selling them off to make room for pinball machines (real machines, from Stern and Jersey Jack, not virtual ones). That Costco MK cabinet was also my first (and only) Arcade 1Up. Now, as someone who has owned, and still owns, a full size cabinet, I pretty much knew what I was getting into. It really is a big, pretty toy, but I still enjoy it. Granted, I don't play it that often, but I'm happy I own it. I would like to own the Sega OutRun and Golden Axe cabinets, but I just don't have room, and really can't justify the price anymore. I haven't been keeping up on these, but I was stunned to see the cost of them now. $600 to 800, or more? No. Just, no. At that point, just spend a little more and get a MAME cabinet or something. And to be honest, I'm surprised Arcade 1Up is even still around. I expected them to be a flash in the pan and be gone in a year or so. I expected to see Craigslist flooded with old cabinets for $50, but that hasn't really happened.

    The thing people keep forgetting with Arcade1up is has very limited options for games. They DO NOT own the rights to any of these games and have pay a licensing fee for EACH machine sold. They have never been a real arcade machine manufacturer. They fill a simple hobby niche market that has to focus on keeping the cost manageable while making some profits. Also, as much as people want to complain about the continual re-releases, there were never that many great arcade games that could justify fabricating an entirely new machine and pay the licensing fee for that one mediocre game you slightly remember. Arcades were always filled with a lot of lousy games so it seems rather stupid to suggest Arcade1up should introduce new titles that never existed.

It plays thousands of games and a bunch of older consoles now. I don't have much space so this works for me. I just shake my head in disbelief every time I see A1U release another Pacman cabinet that just either has new artwork on the cabinet or a couple more games for hundreds more than what I spent originally, and they seem to be doing that a lot with other games lately. However, a few years later they would already start rereleasing these machines and doubling the price. At 600 to 700 a pop, it got more and more worth it to just spend more for an actual machine instead of buying 2 or 3 of these little 1up machines. These cabs are not with the money. There are various companies that make custom-made arcade machines. All reviewers should be honest.

    I didn't even know the Amico had a community lol. I am looking for an arcade machine but just didn't like arcade 1up. I thought about the UMK cab because it is only like 250 right now at Walmart. It is my favorite game but I am leery about the buttons. The only issue is that UMK3 has such a unique controller layout that if I get a normal 6 button arcade machine with multiple games, it will never be the same. Good video and breakdown man. Thanks for this.

    I love your honesty. I have four Arcade1up's and I enjoy them for what they are but they have become to expensive and the customer service sucks. I also didn't like that depending on where you purchase one you end up with one without a lit marquee, no riser, and no stool and some other place has everything for the same price if not cheaper. And that pretty much killed it for me.

      The reason people by arcade1up is because they want a home arcade/ for a man cave and gameroom. Size and weight matter. Price matter and ease of maintenance vs real arcade cabs. Real arcade cost 1500 plus where i live. Arcade1up got greedy . At the old prices no one cares. At the new price ponit arcade1up are make money on hardcore fan base and when they drop in price they still make money. Arcade1up use cheap parts to maximize profits like all business.

      @@show-me-retro so unfortunate too. It was a great idea. But arcade1up seems to have abandoned it. Happy to get the quick sale but then on to the next half finished quick sale product. Same with the pinball machines ot would seem (at least it is a good product out of the box) but it clearly had so much more potential that we are seeming from the team encoder guys... but why isn't arcade1up supporting this type of stuff? We ve heard zen is totally on board for pushing more from the product.... again, get something out to get the big sale and move on to the next

    I've always thought of the Arcade 1up as a toy for kids. But even then they are much more expensive than they ought to be and you are lucky if you get only a few games. For a minute I thought about picking one up on craigslist and making a cheap MAME out of it but the quality of the controls and the displays are sub-par and I would end up replacing everything anyway. I totally understand the nostalgia though and people wanting to have that arcade experience. I think these fill a void for people wanting that nostalgia but don't want to know or care about a full-mame cabinet. I think any gaming enthusiast who has played around with emulation and the potential will see these as a toy and nothing else.

    Partycade with $30 button/stick replacement, $50 pi4 and $30 adapter to connect the LCD to the pi, works pretty good and is cost effective.
    I'm a developer for numerous single board computers, so I opted to put an odroid h2+ x86 board into mine. Now it runs killer instinct, Dreamcast, Naomi, atomiswave, psp and anything earlier I want. Psp and Dreamcast have the same 6 buttons as my sf2 partycade. I took the white led bar out and added 2 rgb bars with remote into the marquee.
    Your best bet is a sbc with retroarch and netplay.
    I strongly advise if you get an arcade 1up, you want to use it for it's shell and casing and make some internal changes. It will dramatically improve the experience.

    Bruv, a lot of what you mentioned I also saw a couple years ago. I was really determined to get a SF2 A1UP cabinet and mod it because I knew it was kinda crap. That wouldn’t fix the size but I could at least fix other things and add a PC for some more games.
    Then I discovered the AtGames Legends Ultimate. Bought one of those and while it’s not perfect, I’m glad I didn’t get sucked in to a A1UP purchase. Don’t get me wrong, the LU isn’t perfect but I’m pretty happy with it and know it was a better purchase than the SF2 cabinet I wanted.
    I think there’s a place for the A1UP machines, but it’s not in the home of an arcade enthusiast.
