I think Retro described the typical A1up fan perfectly when he confessed that he felt blinded by nostalgia when he bought A1ups. A1up has never really had a “good” product especially one that is justified at full retail price but people are mostly sold on the nostalgia of these classic games rather than the actual product. Nostalgia has always been a very good seller for any product and A1up is all about selling people on nostalgia rather than quality. It’s why I bought MK cabs from A1up at first, as a huge MK fan I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a home MK arcade cab even though I knew some of the issues with their cabs. It’s good to see more people growing out of that nostalgia blindness and starting to see the real losses they’ve taken on buying these A1up cabs. But it’s also a shame that some people seem to knowingly excuse the numerous issues that taint the arcade experience on these A1up cabs because they are so sold on that nostalgia
to each their own. in the video he said iircade was better than a1up. there are only three games I would play in their catalog I would actually play and none of them are worth the price of their machine. @games has a pretty good machine only because you can mod them easily. arcade one up has a lot of problems, but I enjoy the ones I have. If they sold the units at a cheaper price that would be better. but If I was to upgrade It would be with an actual arcade machine. I also wouldn't sell a used product I thought was worthless for almost more than they were going for. but I guess we all gotta get our scam on.
I personally want a room that feels like an arcade: multiple games running at once with a lot of variety. For me, A1Up fits that bill. A 3/4 scaled game for $300 is perfectly reasonable, for me, given I could spend that much on a single concert ticket or a steakhouse meal for 3. On the other hand, I original arcade game for $1-3K would be cool in a room with a pool table and jukebox, but that is a completely different feel.
I have similar feelings. I rarely touch my A1U cabs. I got extremely lucky & found someone locally selling a Tiny Arcade Machine from the UK. The machine was easily $2k, but I got it for $700. It is PC-Based with the HyperSpin front end. No delay whatsoever & has over 4K games on it with real Sanwa controls and high-end buttons, plays pinball too. I’ll probably sell my A1U cab in the future. Once you have a properly built Multicade, everything else looks & plays like crap.
Drives & Details - Would your model happen to be similar in size to the Elite 117 RAC from Tiny Arcade? That one is 18.7" (477mm) wide. If so, how's playing versus? Are you cramped for space with player 2? I want to place the order for the 117 and the only thing holding me back is the width of the controller deck.
I never fell for it 😂 I got me a used sf2 1rst gen arcade1up cab and modded the shot out of it bigger screen and all the games I wanted from arcade mod up they are a crappy company but at the end of the day I am happy with my multi Cade
I started with buying a clearance Simpson's and modding it. I really only wanted one cabinet to play all games and I've always wanted a full size Simpsons machine but the people who make the replicas wanted close to $3k for them and the guy who's local wouldn't mod the control deck to have more than the 2 stock buttons so a ton of the included games couldn't be played which made no sense. So figured the A1Up was a good size for a spot in my living room. I added a mini pc, the 20" dell upgrade, lcd marquee and built my own larger 4 player control panel with 6 buttons for each player as well as trackball and 1 spinner. fast forward a few months to when Sam's put the Legends on clearance, I bought 1 of each. The Mini is okay, I set it up permanent vertical with Coinops vertical build. It is just small and feels cheap and wobbly. The Ultimate full size feels so well made and I love everything about it so far. The Legends Pinball is great too. As long as the stuff lasts and doesn't have quality issues, the Atgames was a better choice for me even though the styling isn't as nice as arcade1up. Also I find atgames really overcharges people on their upgrades prices, like that bitlcd will cost me almost as much as I got the cabinet for
This is just like what was available before 1up. Even the multicade fans can thank 1up for reducing the cost of cabinets. Before 1up places like game Room solutions sold expensive kits. 1up provided mod able cabs and inspired atgames to make a multi. Win win.
The top part is angled ( like bartop machines ) because it is not as far away from the screen as a trad cabinet and so there is more chance that tall people won`t have their view obstructed when standing up
Arcade1ups can be gateway cabinets fore sure! Now you have a full-size multi-cade with LCD which is a step closer... Your next step will be an authentic cab with CRT. Then multiple cabinets. It's a slipper slope!!!
I think the arcade1up cabs are good for modding, and great for small spaces. The tech that comes with arcade 1up cabs are garbage for sure. But if you can find a cheap cab for under 300 dollars, you can mod it, add your own games, monitor and controls....the legend cab is very good since you can add Xbox controllers and stuff like that. I have an old original Xbox which has been modded with coin-ops and that is an amazing system. Alternatively you could cobble up a makeshift can that is custom built to your needs for under 1000 dollars. It all depends on what you want in the end. Arcade 1up cabs have a place in the market place. They are easy to build, give you that nostalgia feel, and can be modded too. They probably are not built to last, but Id you treat them with care, they will last you a long time. I think the main thing which does seem to get much talking is the space needed to house these things. Space is tight and having something like this is a luxury. That needs to be appreciated.
They are good as decor but even modded they are too small and flimsy for myself. I get the appeal but even modded I feel there are better options out there. Appreciate the comment
@@show-me-retro yeah I built one myself, custom cab from scratch. It connects to retro consoles like Sega Saturn, N64 etc, and has more versatile etc. it was a headache to put all that together.
Did this when it was $599 at microcenter in Clayton (sorry Brentwood) about a year ago added speakers with subwoofer. Arcade 1up cannot compare to this.
Was that Rainbow islands you were playing ? Lol. Great video. You’re moving up in the world . Welcome to the big boys league. It’s an awesome Multicade.
Granted every stock arcade 1up has a lot to be desired but personally I don’t know anyone who kept it stock I did realize early on there wasn’t a point of buying 10 though. I bought two that had my favorite games swapped the hardware then bought a third on Clearence for like $70 bucks then replaced and upgraded everything on it as a project and added a Pandora box
My point is, even modded they are still too small and light. Screen too small, too short and they wobble and aren't conducive for 2 player gaming. I understand why people buy them, even on the cheap but for me they are strictly decor.
@@show-me-retro they are just cheap toys my other two are just decoration but my modded one is a beast. true it is small and single player but that’s why I liked it. Personal and private. 20” lcd screen,Infinity Reference/kappa Three-way component speakers, amp, custom panel with custom arcade hardware (buttons, sticks, spinner and trackball modded by me) LCD Marquis and reskinned Graphix and 40,000 games everything is the best money can buy. she my be a Bantam weight and size but hits like a heavyweight although I do wish it wasn’t made of MDF the frame is the only original part left some exotic hardwood maybe would be the cherry on top
After I’ve been down the retro arcade rabbit hole I now feel like Arcade 1up is like a gateway drug. Like “Fischer Prices My First Arcade.” After a while you want bigger, better, and more quality. They have a few good cabs but it speaks volumes that most people eventually end up modding them because they’re not totally satisfied with the stock product. At some point you just graduate from 1up.
I picked up an iircade regular edition and am loving it. Never played an arcade one up till last night and it wasn’t the same quality and too small in my opinion. Good call on exiting that hobby.
I bought a legends mini that was modded with all the games for $150. I still have arcade 1 ups that I bought used or on clearance because I like a retro looking eye candy arcade that is not full sized.
I just got my ALU $349 deal up and running and its so good.... I don't think you went wrong with your purchase... hope you have many fun game nights to come buddy
Great video. Well done. Arcade1Ups are like training wheels ... they are good when you are starting but eventually you outgrow them and don't need them. Unless your entire RUclips channel was built around Arcade1Up. lol
You indicated that there are plenty of turnkey solutions that are an alternative to an Arcade1Up, but this is only a turnkey solution because someone else bought a kit and configured it. The person that you purchased this from put their own PC in it and their own games and configured the interface. The average consumer of an Arcade 1 Up cabinet would not be able to create this from the kit that’s available from Micro Center. They would have to be fortunate enough to find someone near them that has done the same type of configuration and is willing to sell it at the time when they are looking. The total cost for the previous owner to create this was at least double if not triple the cost of an Arcade1Up cabinet.
You can get this exact cabinet at Microcenter... I showed the pic for 799 complete with everything including a pi. The Atgames can be had for less than 400 and add coinops in minutes. Both of those options including iircade are better than any 1up or pro or xl... appreciate the comment but just my opinion
Sometimes it's hard to overlook the combination of price point and nostalgia. It's why I ended up with a bizarre mix in my gameroom. Two regular pinball machines One commercial arcade machine Legends Ultimate and Pinball One Arcade 1up
I have several 1Up products and an Atgames Legends Ultimate. Though very happy with my purchases I can't help but admire your new all in one. Over in the UK we have limited acces to Arcade 1Ups, though it is getting better with more cabs being made available. Space will ultimately be my limiting factor....I have space for only one more 3/4 size. Which is why the Atgames Legends Ultimate was such a good buy.....I currently have hundreds of games on it. Allowing ne to be a bit more picky on the 1Up products I want. Great video!
I think the only games that I really only buy from 1up are ones with unique control decks. Tron, ridge racer, terminator etc. The fighter games I could play with atgames ultimate.
I recently purchased the Arcade 1UP Killer Instinct for $299.99 although it’s not perfect I’m really enjoying it. But I would like a multicade like you have for space saving reasons! Thanks for the video
As long as you're enjoying it. I just wasn't getting anything out of mine and modding them seemed pointless because of build quality but to each his own. I'm really enjoying this cabinet
Hey, if you love your 1ups that's awesome. I wanted something that I played more instead of looked at and I'm happy with that decision. Cheers brother 👍
This is great! No doubt about it. But one thing I rarely hear people bring up is that even though you can re-create your own perfect cabinet, running which ever games you want, nine times out of 10 they are not officially licensed or legally obtained. I know this is a gray area for many, but honestly, this is the main reason why I have tried to stick with Arcade1Up (as frustrating as they can be) because they are officially licensing the games used. I would love to make an entire arcade room of custom cabs running exactly the games I want using newer hardware, but I am stumped with this whole licensing issue.
I don't lose any sleep on licensed vs unlicensed games anymore. Especially if A1up puts out a crappy running officially licensed version. I definitely see your point but it influence my decisions anymore whether or not the games are licensed. Appreciate the comment 👍
But hypothetically, if someone bought a replica jukebox machine, with beautiful pseudo neon lights, a retro looking "turntable", and loaded with 1000s of ripped songs from CDs that were never legally purchased, am I in a "gray area"? Regardless of the quality of the jukebox, the songs were still illegally obtained and loaded onto the jukebox, no matter how much I paid for the jukebox itself.
@@RetroFett that's fair and I understand the example. But, I'd probably load my own ripped copies of music I've purchased. Same with this type of multi-cade, I would load up the ROMs for games I already own and that would play well on that style of cab except for when it comes to the arcade ROMs, not sure what I would do unless buying version on other systems would suffice or the actual arcade PCBs? The licensed art is also something that obviously Arcade1Up has to pay for whereas the average consumer would likely not get sued by the owners. But the fact that they could sue if they wanted is what I call the gray area. Not sure if that makes sense but this is a big factor why I feel Arcade1Up has done so well (officially licensed) since people are still buying even though they are priced nearly the same as build-your-own cabs.
The only time I really went for A1up cabs was when they had a really crazy sale at Walmart, they were $50 a piece, I drove to a bunch and just couldn't snag one, multiple sales people said I was just a few hours late for "this" one or "that", just couldn't get off work fast enough. Other than that I could never justify the price of them.
I bought an ALP with the arcade controller for Christmas. With the coinops build I have, I think that's all I need. There's only about a dozen arcade games that I really play. I'm all about the pinball.
@@show-me-retro nice. Yeah, I have gotten a few other arcade stuff there as well, like the pacman ghost that turns shades as you walk by. I'll check out the videos though. Thanks
I have an mvsx neo Geo arcade modded it with 5,000 games bought the Star war's arcade 1up again modded with 150 tables nice to have the arcade machine and pinball to complement my pool table and Juke box
An Atgames Legends Ultimate is my choice, BitPixel LCD, upgraded speakers and upgraded controls, has the trackball and spinners. I have the 5" riser, can shoehorn the Core Max, it runs pretty good with coinopsx. THe Bitpixel LCD is 150 bucks for me but I an LPO. You are dipping your toes in the multicade space, there are alot of options out there, thats a nice heavy cab, congrats.
Yeah, I could have easily bought the ALU with the Bitpixel LCD but I got anxious once my 1ups sold and I had no idea Sams would discount the ALU so much
Ya the atgames deals have been amazing, even lower in store and price adjusted, I had an ALU ordered and they hosed my account and cancelled, I went to order again with new account next day and they were sold out! You got a nice cab, should be good for everything, can always go to arcade punks or run a hyperspin super build some are close to 50 Terabytes, Check out Vic VP for some awesome cabinets and virtual pinballs, he has the nicest ones I have seen with real wood, his vertical build is what I want most from him and 4k Pinball, the dude is top of the game!
Great video and that is an awesome machine. I haven't touched my A1up products in months and instead I've been using my Legends Core Max and my PC to play arcade games.
"I'm happy to be done with that phase of my life" 😆 🤣 😂 I think a few A1ups r fine...cabs that don't fit the mold...star wars...driving cabs such as outrun or cabs that just stand out such as Tron or Tempest are pretty cool to have. Everything else..I ask myself every now and then..what was I thinking..so yeah..lol
I’ve never owned a Arcade 1Up and never intend too either. I designed mine but had a cabinet maker build me the Arcade machine a year ago and bizarrely it’s not to dissimilar to yours actually! Black textured MDF with lime green trims as yours but my marquee sits at the right angle. My layout is not the conventional 6 or 8 button layout either. My cabinets is also single player only with 2 joysticks (Robotron) as well trackball and spinner and is a PI4 running Retropie.
I would own an Atgames Legends, or a Viewlix machines. You can connect your PC via HDMI. Both machines are good for playing higher-end games such USFIV, UMvC3, and Tekken 7. Old retro games such as MK1-3, SF2, and other mame games doesn't look good on a 20+ inch 16:9 widescreen monitors. It looked better on a 4:3 19 inch square size monitor.
My favorite games are Tempest, Stargate, and Asteroids, and maybe Gorf. Stargate had the most buttons (hyperspace etc). That was my favorite game. Can you recommend the best all-in-one console for these? Mostly regarding control/button layout. I know nothing about these modern all-in-one arcades. Thanks for this informative video.
I have both the Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man Legacy Cabs and the Super Pac-Man Partycade from Arcade1Up but that is it for homemade arcade replicas for me because I feel that the more of these homemade arcade machines are doled out, the more depressing the outcome will likely become. I am slowly saving money so I could get the home arcade cabinet version of Pac-Man's Pixel Bash from BandaiNamco, which has 32 games, including Ms. Pac-Man, (but no Pac-Land nor Jr. Pac-Man) whereas the business version found at Dave & Buster's, do not. It is the "real McCoy" and I know that I would not be disappointed at another factory made replica that would only let me down when something from that machine doesn't work.
Absolutely gorgeous new cabinet and a great addition to your Game room and you definitely opened my eyes to a different perspective from the arcade stand point it is definitely on to take into considuration for sure for Sheer space size alone great video man!
Thanks brother. I'm just over putting these smaller cabinets and taking up space in my gameroom. No disrespect ro anyone that does but it's just not for me anymore
Just an observation, the crazy sales on Atgames products was only on Sam's Club, and it was solely a Sam's decision, and surprised a lot of people. I bought my ALU and ALP 18months ago at pretty much full price (maybe 10 or 15% discount, but nothing compared to the sales going on Sam's, absolutely the lowest price ever). Yeah, I am a bit jealous of overpaying $800+ on the devices 🙂
Very interested in this way. I was looking for broken arcade 1 ups so I can get a good shell to use on a build. I don't see these kits on Micro Center's web site. I'll try in store.
I think if I was getting 1up today those 3/4 scales have there place though if I was going to do a retro setup I would start looking 2-4 player cabs connected to a 55 inch screen at present what you have is a bridging gap where you can still play 4:3 and 16:9 in the same space.. however the ultimate arcades would 50 inch and up rear projection or of today's screen capacity 65 inch or up
I think you made a good choice. I love my ALU but sometimes I want to add a PC to it. I never owned Arcade 1Up because they are just too small and always have issues and I don't have room for all those Arcades. Thanks for the great video.
I think that you got a good deal. Something to be said that the PC was setup out of the box with roms working. I also like that they went with one theme for the cab. Sure it doesn't have a trackball or spinner. It would be nice but not a make or break. Plus you could always add those later on. I got the chance to play a family members 1up, took some footage that I may do a video on my second channel. I got to see how the quality is....I think if you had to trade all 3 of your 1up cabs it would have been worth it.
i agree. but there is some stuff that was not covered. 1up arcade pays money to the the developer of the games. It's official. But this arcade machine has many games presinstalled. The developers of the games don't get money. So it may be illegal in one way.
I bought this from someone on FB. He purchased it at microcenter and added some things. The Atari cabinet i showed in the video is nearly identical but comes with a raspberry pi instead of an i5 pc
Definitely a step up man. I think you made the right choice when comparing it to the legends cab. The legends one leaves much to be desired in the looks department, yours looks great I think. Running that PC in there is gonna make all the difference when playing the harder to emulate stuff like 64 or Naomi. Doubt you would ever be able to get either of those systems and many others emulated on the legends. Real t moulding and 3/4" MDF! I watched a vid on the killer instinct pro cab and both those were absent. They are also still using bad joysticks and switches so no lessons learned there I guess. Why change the business model if your target market either doesn't know the difference or will aggressively defend the garbage you produce either way. One things for sure no free review products from 1up are in your future lol. Adding a gun 4ir to that cab would really take it to the next level imo.
Great video my friend! I was going to say I think I fell for part of that same nostalgia! I mean I haven't played my Simpsons Arcade 1UP cabinet in quite some time. Honestly, I am sure I will play it more in the future, but yeah nothing compares to the original cabinets!
Thanks brother. I have no problem buying something for nostalgia but for me, mine were just sitting and while they look good in a room once I fired them up the quality and gameplay experience was severley lacking. I needed something bigger with better controls that I would actually use. Everyone is different but that's what workes best for me
Hi, what cabinet did buy in this video. I couldn't pick up which one you chose. I did get the point that A1ups aren't that great. Thanks for your help!
Nice video! I personally prefer Japanese sit-down (candy) cabinets, but I was wondering if custom cabinet manufacturers have made any sit-down designs of their own. If you haven’t looked into candy cabs, I’d recommend it! I personally love and own several Taito Vewlix cabinets, so I’m biased, lol
What a very sensible video! I bought the Alu the day it arrived at samsclub. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase. If I had any complaints about it, it would be the cosmetic shape of it and the graphics. I bought a Tron wrap from Joe Szabo and I’m now very happy with how it look. One more complaint I have about it is the chrome trim is starting to fall off. With that being said I still think it’s a very good option to have in the home arcade space. Also, I recently use my steam deck with it and it’s brought new life to it for me.
It is, especially at that recent sale price. The only thing I'm envious of is the control deck and Bitlcd option but other than that I'm very happy with this microcenter build. Thanks for the comment, cheers 🍻
@@show-me-retro right! Having the spinners and trackball is nice. Honestly though, I rarely use the spinners. I love Atari games but I just don’t play them often enough. The trackball is a must for me though. I use it simply for centipede. Centipede is very special between my daughter and I. If I had to say, you really aren’t missing out too much with your micro center arcade. Plus, it looks like your screen is bigger and maybe even brighter than the Alu!
@@show-me-retro I’m jealous now!! I just bought the micro from not having enough space in my home. My daughter’s toys and gaming setup have took over my home. Lol
I always liked the designs of the arcade1up stuff but dedicating a cabinet to a single game (or even handfull of games) never made sense to me. I got in on the sam's deal, and my ALU should show up tomorrow but if I knew about this arcade i might have gone with that instead (though i see that there's only 6 action buttons per player and to play modern fighters I would want 8...) the ALU has 6 buttons as well, but I already own the atgames legends gamer pro which i can swap in to replace the control deck in the ALU to get me the 8 button layout that I want... the only thing i'm not too keen about on the ALU is the display size... there's a big bezel and it's only a 24" monitor... I'm thinking i'll probably replace it with a 30" display and probably toss a real pc in there eventually (until then, it can natively run coinops just fine)
At Games Alu with One Sauce now plays ps1. I just go a Alu pinball at the great sale price from Sams 299$ i have the A1u ms ms pacman once i saw the ALU it stopped right there with A1u the joystick ball always unwinds Alu 4000 games all my favorites +. You having a computer in the cabinet is a plus tho.
I appreciate this video so much. I have wanted to purchase an A1up, particularly the MVC2, and have not been able to find one anywhere. I am all about this authentic arcade experience and don’t know much anything about actually building my own setup or adding games ala cart and am looking for something like this cabinet you have with all the classic arcade games, but more importantly the arcade fighting games from Capcom that I love. How can I get one of these and just plug and play? I’m in NYC and can’t believe there isn’t an easy option!
@@show-me-retro I will check it out. There is a huge market for guys like me who don’t have the knowledge or time to actually build cabinets like the one you purchased. I was checking that Tine Crisis one in your video. Why is there not something like that not already commercially available!? That is a huge opportunity!!
@@show-me-retro It might be something I would consider if I had access to all the main games I play. If you know of some that service NYC, please share the information. I would appreciate that 🤓
I actually bought this on FB marketplace but this cabinet kit at the time of this video was being sold on Microcenter website but it may not be anymore unfortunately. The seller threw the pc in with the sale so it was very plug and play but I was just trying to show what you can get if you look hard enough or are handy and can build your own kit with a pc for not much more than the cost of a 1up
He's a guy i met on FB, he builds cabinets for himself, plays them for awhile then sells them and moves on to other builds so he doesn't have a link. If you were in the MO area he is selling his Tapper and Time Crisis builds though.
Here is the link but it appears they are sold out or no longer carrying this kit or the Atari build unfortunately. www.microcenter.com/product/602978/micro-center-full-size-arcade-cabinet-32-unassembled
You made a great purchase. I myself would like what you have one but with 4 players and a trackball. We were all dooped when it came to arcade 1up. Luckily after only buying 3 myself I said enough is enough with these cheap wannabe arcades. I'm just going to save my money and get what I truly want. A 4 player arcade with all the games and call it a day.
I would suggest an Atgames ALU. They make a 4 player deck plus it has a trackball and spinner. Coinops can be loaded very easily and with the Bitlcd you essentially have an active marquee. For a little more money you could go with a company like Quality Arcades... just my 2 cents
Show-Me Retro, Definitely an upgrade in the controls department, I'm a HAPP man and also have a generic cab with those types of controls for serious gameplay. I also want to say, your new machine is a beauty, and I think you made a great decision getting it, because it's bringing you more happiness than your Arcade1up's. And you know what the cool thing is? Buying this new machine doesn't preclude you from getting an AtGames one down the line. AtGames is always having sales, so there's plenty of time to reassess sometime in the future. Having a couple of machines that have different control schemes is a great option. Have a great new year! vgv
Thanks brother, always kind words from you... much appreciated. I'm really enjoying it and am playing it right now. You have a great New Year's as well!!! 🍻
The concept of 1up cabinets are cool but honestly I never play mine. I got the Mortal Kombat one and the Pacman collection one. The pacman one I actually won from a raffle at work and the MK one was gifted to me by my wife for Christmas. I do not like the controls of them at all. MK means so clunking and not at all right. The pacman one feels pretty good though but I don't have much nostalgia for it. I was tossing the idea around about selling them but I felt bad because I didn't really pay for them and one was a gift. Who knows. I might put them upstairs in the hallway for my boys to play. They do look cool in the gameroom tho.
They are great decor and I give 1up some credit for that but the gaming experience is lacking and I'm soo glad I sold mine and bought this mulricade. I play it daily and it's so much better quality
@@IowaRetroGamerDad here's the thing, even having 1000s of games on there, it's still a flimsy, poorly built cabinet with a tiny screen and bad controls. Yeah it might get more playtime but it's not ideal. Just my 2 cents
@@show-me-retro Youre completely right now that I think about it. The main reason I dont like the MK cabinet is the joystick feels horrible and the buttons delayed
@@IowaRetroGamerDad My cabinets were fighting cabs and they moved even when it was just me playing....that's unacceptable and I wasn't gonna bolt them to the wall. Again, it may get played more but the controls would need to be upgraded and the screen is so small plus it just lacks weight, The Atgames ALU is a great inexpensive choice for a multicade. Thwy have an active marquee option and it's plenty big. In 15 min you could be running coinops on it. Doesn't have the fancy artwork but it's about PLAYING these games and ro me that's important
As someone who is wanting to get into a hom arcade, what should i go with instead? I do not mind mossing and upgrading but would like a solid base at least.
If you can't find a nice used multicade locally on Facebook marketplace then I would suggest getting an Atgames Legends Ultimate. It's larger and heavier with better controls plus very simple to add coinops x and thousands of games.
The question is are there more affordable options outside of arcade one up and that’s the thing that people keep failing to realize, people can’t afford $1200 to 1000+ dollar arcades paying $300-$400 is a good enough and to be honest that’s still pretty pricey
How much did this unit actually cost? You don’t need a PC to run CoinOpsX on an ALU, just a USB. If you don’t have the time to load all the games on there (or, like me, don’t own a PC), you can buy preloaded USBs on Etsy for $50.
Pat, I've seen these kits at Micro Center and thought about buying one but never pulled the trigger. I'm curious to see where you're at with it in a few months. Maybe I miss read you, but it almost sounded like you were flirting with the idea of buying a real cab. I could be wrong. Great video as always!
I've been playing it almost daily for the past 2 weeks. As far as a real cab, yeah i was wanting a real cab or something bigger overall. This is close to full size and far superior to any 1up I've owned so i pulled the trigger since the price was right
Nice cab. I think what you have is better than an ALU. Having the PC gives so many more options. Be curious to know how much play the new cab gets 6 months from now when the "newness" wears off. A multicade is nice IF you load it with games you will actually play and don't just data hoard romsets. One of the reasons I run my own setup and it something like CoinOps. Have to thank 1up for the resurgence in home arcades, just a shame the quality isn't there.
Agreed, I thanked 1up in my other video. I have played it daily 2 weeks straight and played with friends as well which is more than the other 2 ever got. So far I'm happy and I may want more flexibility down the road but for now I'm happy with it
Wow this thing looks awsome playing streets of rage 4, one of the best beat em ups ever made. A worthy upgrade by any standard. Can you also play TMNT shredders revenge on this?
This cab is no longer available. I have decided to try and replicate it, but there are few dimensional details...I do have the assembly manual, knew the overall height and depth, but not the width. You stated the Control Panel is 27.5" - is that excluding the right and left sides? This dimension would set the width for all the cab core panels, can you confirm? For what it is worth, I think the cab you have now is vastly better than any Arcade 1 Up machine...they had to cut MANY corners to be able to sell it cheaply enough. 1 Up machines scratch an itch, but they're not really built to last.
Happy to see you move on from that company that takes advantage of our nostalgia. In some ways, A1Up is like those toy commercials we saw as kids… you get your parents to take you to Toys R Us to buy it… take it home… and realize it doesn’t look or operate the same as in the commercials. Looks like you did some much needed cleansing of your house and your soul haha. Always enjoy your videos and always keep it real - that’s what drew me in here.
LOL, appreciate it Mikey! Yeah I am soo glad I made the changes, I'm very happy with the decision. And you're very correct about 1up. I know a lot of people love them and they have helped the resurgence in home arcades but they just aren't for me.
Very well said, thanks for the comment
@@show-me-retro hey little girly man, real men who have a huge set of balls use ball-tops.
to each their own. in the video he said iircade was better than a1up. there are only three games I would play in their catalog I would actually play and none of them are worth the price of their machine.
@@spectri1990 🤣😅😂
@@spectri1990 thanks brother, I needed a good laugh
I personally want a room that feels like an arcade: multiple games running at once with a lot of variety. For me, A1Up fits that bill. A 3/4 scaled game for $300 is perfectly reasonable, for me, given I could spend that much on a single concert ticket or a steakhouse meal for 3. On the other hand, I original arcade game for $1-3K would be cool in a room with a pool table and jukebox, but that is a completely different feel.
A quality multicade is the way to go for me. 1ups are just decor, but I understand the appeal
Nice, yeah I totally agree 👍
Also I find atgames really overcharges people on their upgrades prices, like that bitlcd will cost me almost as much as I got the cabinet for
Yeah the ALU is a great choice and I agree style wise it's lacking. But it can do a lot out of the box
This is just like what was available before 1up. Even the multicade fans can thank 1up for reducing the cost of cabinets. Before 1up places like game
Room solutions sold expensive kits. 1up provided mod able cabs and inspired atgames to make a multi. Win win.
The top part is angled ( like bartop machines ) because it is not as far away from the screen as a trad cabinet and so there is more chance that tall people won`t have their view obstructed when standing up
Get you one of those keyboard wrist rest pillow things to put under the buttons, it'll change the angle of how your wrist are placed.
Clayom MO? NICE 👌
@Show-Me Retro the one in st louis out in Brentwood, Missouri
Did you go to the retrogame con in Columbia Mo in April 2023
At least you have WAY more options in the US than here in Australia. Glad you got something you were MOSTLY happy with in the end.
Appreciate it brother 🍻
Was that Rainbow islands you were playing ? Lol. Great video. You’re moving up in the world . Welcome to the big boys league. It’s an awesome Multicade.
Thank you my friend. I can't believe it took me this long 🙄
I'm also done with arcade1up. I only have room for 1. 😊
@@pimpinken8901 very nice 👌
After I’ve been down the retro arcade rabbit hole I now feel like Arcade 1up is like a gateway drug. Like “Fischer Prices My First Arcade.” After a while you want bigger, better, and more quality. They have a few good cabs but it speaks volumes that most people eventually end up modding them because they’re not totally satisfied with the stock product. At some point you just graduate from 1up.
@@hudson2441 very good analogy
I picked up an iircade regular edition and am loving it. Never played an arcade one up till last night and it wasn’t the same quality and too small in my opinion. Good call on exiting that hobby.
Yeah they're just not for me
I bought a legends mini that was modded with all the games for $150.
I still have arcade 1 ups that I bought used or on clearance because I like a retro looking eye candy arcade that is not full sized.
I just got my ALU $349 deal up and running and its so good.... I don't think you went wrong with your purchase... hope you have many fun game nights to come buddy
You got a great deal... get that Bitlcd while it's on sale... LIKE NOW
Great video. Well done. Arcade1Ups are like training wheels ... they are good when you are starting but eventually you outgrow them and don't need them. Unless your entire RUclips channel was built around Arcade1Up. lol
Thanks Brad, yeah I guess it's a great way to get into home arcades but it's something most people quickly outgrow
Two regular pinball machines
One commercial arcade machine
Legends Ultimate and Pinball
One Arcade 1up
Sounds like a great mix to me, very nice
I have several 1Up products and an Atgames Legends Ultimate. Though very happy with my purchases I can't help but admire your new all in one.
Over in the UK we have limited acces to Arcade 1Ups, though it is getting better with more cabs being made available. Space will ultimately be my limiting factor....I have space for only one more 3/4 size. Which is why the Atgames Legends Ultimate was such a good buy.....I currently have hundreds of games on it. Allowing ne to be a bit more picky on the 1Up products I want.
Great video!
You'll enjoy the ALU, put coinops on it and all your favorite games... really all you need
I think the only games that I really only buy from 1up are ones with unique control decks. Tron, ridge racer, terminator etc. The fighter games I could play with atgames ultimate.
Great video! Keep the Partycade. They are awesome and take up almost no room.
Thanks, I'll probably make a dedicated 4-way cab out of it.
Great buy. This is better. Especially since it is running a pc
Absolutely
Very cool but I like have my 10 1ups ! I like the arcade feeling it gives me .Enjoy your cab 😊
@@RetroFett Who cares? enjoy the free music.
Nice, you'll enjoy it for sure
I have that same Dig Dug art from Hobby Lobby as well. Right above my Dig Dug cab.
Hobby Lobby has great gaming decor for sure, I put out at least 5 videos showcasing some cool stuff they sell 👍
@@show-me-retro nice. Yeah, I have gotten a few other arcade stuff there as well, like the pacman ghost that turns shades as you walk by. I'll check out the videos though. Thanks

Great video, good flow and entertaining to watch as much as it was informational.
keyboard palm pad will help with wrist fatigue. Just a thought
Thanks brother, appreciate it 👍
Core Max with a Gamer Pro on the stand is a dope solution, a screen on the wall that rotates for pinball is my next configuration.
That Star Wars cab is still 🔥, I can admit that
I’ve never owned a Arcade 1Up and never intend too either.
Very nice
Looks like a cool machine! If the controls run thru a USB encoder you could run any kind of system in this cabinet.
Me i am not that serious about this type of gaming but if you are i understand 100 percent
I built a 27-inch mini led machine with gun4ir guns.
That looks a much better option than the Arcade1up cabs….nice one Pat.
Thanks Marcus, Happy New Year brother 🍻🍺
That Tapper multicade is a dream build I'm about to embark on :)
He posted it for sale shortly after I uploaded this
I'm sure it sold in a moment, it looks great!
@Works Anywhere it had an i7 and everything was top notch, yeah it's gone
My favorite games are Tempest, Stargate, and Asteroids, and maybe Gorf. Stargate had the most buttons (hyperspace etc). That was my favorite game. Can you recommend the best all-in-one console for these? Mostly regarding control/button layout. I know nothing about these modern all-in-one arcades. Thanks for this informative video.
Thanks for the love. Would have preferred an answer.
I rather have your arcade than the at legends cab by far, it’s beautiful man.
Like I said, they are just decor which they do a good job of but that's where it ends for me.
Looks Killer Dude! Love it
Good on you. You graduated up from A1up!
I totally understand, I would be upset as well
It’s really nice but I can’t deal with multicades . I just search and search and never play. Personally I need dedicated cabs.
SUNSET RIIIDERRRZZZZ
Great game
That at games would have been nice buy for the price. I'm done with A1up
For sure, $350 for what you're getting is a steal
Very interested in this way. I was looking for broken arcade 1 ups so I can get a good shell to use on a build. I don't see these kits on Micro Center's web site. I'll try in store.
The Atari cabinet was still available for purchase when I uploaded the video
It's possibly It's sold out now
I think if I was getting 1up today those 3/4 scales have there place though if I was going to do a retro setup I would start looking 2-4 player cabs connected to a 55 inch screen
at present what you have is a bridging gap where you can still play 4:3 and 16:9 in the same space..
however the ultimate arcades would 50 inch and up rear projection or of today's screen capacity 65 inch or up
For what I paid, it's a significant upgrade from an A1up
I think you made a good choice. I love my ALU but sometimes I want to add a PC to it. I never owned Arcade 1Up because they are just too small and always have issues and I don't have room for all those Arcades. Thanks for the great video.
Appreciate the comment 👍
I see what you're saying but I have 10 arcade 1ups and love them and 1 at games legends and love it, I love all the games and there styles
Hey, if that works foe you that's awesome 👌
I think that you got a good deal. Something to be said that the PC was setup out of the box with roms working. I also like that they went with one theme for the cab. Sure it doesn't have a trackball or spinner. It would be nice but not a make or break. Plus you could always add those later on. I got the chance to play a family members 1up, took some footage that I may do a video on my second channel. I got to see how the quality is....I think if you had to trade all 3 of your 1up cabs it would have been worth it.
It was a smart move, something I should have done awhile ago
i agree. but there is some stuff that was not covered. 1up arcade pays money to the the developer of the games. It's official. But this arcade machine has many games presinstalled. The developers of the games don't get money. So it may be illegal in one way.
❤❤❤ PLEASE WHERE DO I PURCHASE THESE CABS???? I don’t see any link??
Thanks 🙏🏻
I bought this from someone on FB. He purchased it at microcenter and added some things. The Atari cabinet i showed in the video is nearly identical but comes with a raspberry pi instead of an i5 pc
Great decision! Multicades are amazing! paPOw!!!
Yup, exactly
I really appreciate that comment, and you make some great points that make me feel good about my decision. Cheers brother 🍻
Looks good and much better than A1UP I would buy one those if it were available to me
Thanks, you'd be surprised what you find on FB.
Everyone is different but that's what workes best for me
I agree with everything you said my friend, very logical
Hi, what cabinet did buy in this video. I couldn't pick up which one you chose. I did get the point that A1ups aren't that great. Thanks for your help!
It's a cabinet sold at microcenter. Not sure if it's still available since this video is almost a year old at this point
@@show-me-retro Thank you for your help.

30" is a nice size, not too big and not too small
At Games Alu with One Sauce now plays ps1. I just go a Alu pinball at the great sale price from Sams 299$ i have the A1u ms ms pacman once i saw the ALU it stopped right there with A1u the joystick ball always unwinds Alu 4000 games all my favorites +. You having a computer in the cabinet is a plus tho.
I'm running a lot of games that need the extra power
Where can I order a cab like that ?
Well, I got lucky and found him on FB but he doesn't sell online. He builds cabs and then after playing awhile sells and builds another
I appreciate this video so much.

There are a lot of companies that sell pre-built arcade machines with thousands of games but be prepared to pay between 2 and $5,000
@@show-me-retro It might be something I would consider if I had access to all the main games I play. If you know of some that service NYC, please share the information. I would appreciate that 🤓

WIll you be doing a tutorial on how to recreate this cabinet with all the games or how to get all pieces ??
I actually bought this on FB marketplace but this cabinet kit at the time of this video was being sold on Microcenter website but it may not be anymore unfortunately. The seller threw the pc in with the sale so it was very plug and play but I was just trying to show what you can get if you look hard enough or are handy and can build your own kit with a pc for not much more than the cost of a 1up
@@show-me-retro THank u much :D
I’m hoping the Atgames Legends Ultimate goes on sale again so I can jump on it.
Yeah, that Sams sale was absolutely nuts on all Atgames products
@@show-me-retro awhile ago I got the Atgames Legends Pinball for $325 nib delivered to my doorstep. I just need the ALU to complete my arcade.
@@eduardomatos2874 wow, that's a CRAZY deal. Well done
@@eduardomatos2874 I paid $600
I'm very interested in the cabinet u showed in this video..any chance I could get a link to the seller?
He's a guy i met on FB, he builds cabinets for himself, plays them for awhile then sells them and moves on to other builds so he doesn't have a link. If you were in the MO area he is selling his Tapper and Time Crisis builds though.
Hi id be interested in something like this for a build. Can you link where to find these kits? I couldn't find it on Micro centers site
Here is the link but it appears they are sold out or no longer carrying this kit or the Atari build unfortunately.

Dose it have that obnoxious song playing on the menu for the Capcom vs marvel?? Lol
Show-Me Retro,
Definitely an upgrade in the controls department, I'm a HAPP man and also have a generic cab with those types of controls for serious gameplay.
@@show-me-retro Yeah. I was thinking of gutting the MK cabinet and trying to install my retro pi in it. LOL
@show-meretro Thank you for the suggestion. Awesome video, love the content.
The question is are there more affordable options outside of arcade one up and that’s the thing that people keep failing to realize, people can’t afford $1200 to 1000+ dollar arcades paying $300-$400 is a good enough and to be honest that’s still pretty pricey
Atgames ALU
How much did this unit actually cost?
You don’t need a PC to run CoinOpsX on an ALU, just a USB. If you don’t have the time to load all the games on there (or, like me, don’t own a PC), you can buy preloaded USBs on Etsy for $50.
Lots of the games loaded on mine need a pc to run them.
Would you consider a 32" or do you think 27 is the sweet spot?
I sold my arcade one ups and bought a vewlix
Pat, I've seen these kits at Micro Center and thought about buying one but never pulled the trigger. I'm curious to see where you're at with it in a few months. Maybe I miss read you, but it almost sounded like you were flirting with the idea of buying a real cab. I could be wrong. Great video as always!
I've been playing it almost daily for the past 2 weeks. As far as a real cab, yeah i was wanting a real cab or something bigger overall. This is close to full size and far superior to any 1up I've owned so i pulled the trigger since the price was right
Just transfer the games to sd
So far I'm happy and I may want more flexibility down the road but for now I'm happy with it
The only reason Id buy a 1up is if I couldn't get firewood anywhere else.
😂🤣😅
Sense lots of A1UP hate here..lol… cant wait to see what you swap that machine for..
Why would i swap it, it's getting played daily unliike the junk it replaced
Wow this thing looks awsome playing streets of rage 4, one of the best beat em ups ever made. A worthy upgrade by any standard. Can you also play TMNT shredders revenge on this?
Shredders is on there as well
@@show-me-retro damn I'm so jealous lol, this is worth every penny in my opinion
Where is the link to the one who sold you the cabinet?
I met him on Facebook but he doesn't sell online unfortunately
Smart move!!
