Man I remember being 13 and going up to the corner market to play Galaga where I’d perform the kill all except the last two bees on stage 2 and wait until they stop dropping bombs altogether. Then the rest of the game nothing drops bombs. I was able to pass all levels like this. Loved it!
Many years ago back in 2011 I played on a Ms. Pac Man/Galaga cabinet that was at an Old Chicago restaurant, wished I’d known about these codes back then, very cool find!

1:32 I don't see this machine anywhere though I don't see machines in the wild much. Surprisingly the laundromat near me has a 4-slot NEOGEO, Time Crisis, and Rush 2049. The Rush was a Cruisn Exotica not too long ago. Several years back that Time Crisis was the newer Sega Model 2 Star Wars Arcade Trilogy. I ran into the arcade operator one time and let him know I was happy to see the machines still in use.
Another great one Jon. Love finding out about these hidden tricks & features. I just downloaded the 20pacgal rom and so I can try this on my MAME cabinet!
Hey, that’s such a neat hidden feature. So cool that an arcade machine will let you do that. Especially the 10 sec Galaga control. I wanna find one of these and try them out. Thanks again for another awesome retro mining gold strike!
I remember finding this cabinet in airport many years ago. A really nice idea. The hidden features make me wonder if it was considered partially for the home market too.
I remember when I was little, I accidentally started playing on the Galaga demo at a Friendly's and I thought I was some kind of hacker genius for figuring out how to play the game without inserting a quarter. But then the game froze, but it didn't restart the cab like in the video. It just turned off. It was such a vivid memory and I thought I was misremembering it.
I remember finding a Pac-Man at a Sears back in the day, and being bored I inserted a quarter to play a game. But instead of it prompting me to start a new game when I did that, I got a screen full of fruit shapes that kept shifting about randomly. That lasted for about a second before the game reset and went back to the attract mode. Never did get to play that day.
Sadly, A1up missed a brilliant opportunity to port this over to the home cabinet of CO81. Would've been nice to do. Thanks for sharing these codes for the real CO81. ;)
Really cool video Jon!! Those two titles along with Dig Dug and Q*bert are some of my favorite video games of all time. I really appreciate your passion for all things 80's....and I'm so thankful for the forum you've provided, so all of us Gen-Xers can share in the fun together!!!
Man, Brian, is somebody paying you to drop comments to cheer me up? You're always such a positive presence in my video comments section. Thanks for being here!
@@GenXGrownUp lol, you're awesome Jon! Its great to have a voice here...and I'm beyond thankful for you being here because you steered me in the right direction on where to find my favorite games. That are in some really cool modernized units, which I can enjoy all over again!!!
Jon, this is such a cool find. Thank you for sharing the information, makes me want to go to our local arcade and see if they have this cabinet. I really appreciate all of your research that you did to make this video.
You bet, Randy. I see these around my area pretty regularly, and I find it just neat to know the hidden games & options when I step up and drop a quarter (or two, as is usually the case).
Right. Hackers developed modded roms back in the 80s to change things like firing rates & player speed and I guess they found it profitable and sold them to operators and vendors, and of course this infuriated NAMCO. But back then, we didn't care if the cabinets had these mods installed or not, we were just having fun as Generation X. But Bless NAMCO for actually embracing these mods in the Class of 1981 cabinet. Just seeing this video and the shorts is an awesome throwback. Also, the operators and vendors can enable these in the dip switch menus so no one has to enter the codes, except to play OG PAC-MAN. And that Galaga attract mode trick actually works on OG Galaga hardware as well. BTW, last time I played a 20 Year Reunion cabinet was in 2022 before I left Kentucky for Arkansas, in Lexington, KY at Tolly-Ho, a long time Greasy Spoon type restaurant popular with University of Kentucky students.
Pretty cool how you discovered these codes on the 20th Anniversary Ms.Pac-Man/Galaga. I admit I heard rumors there was a way to play the Original Pac-Man on the Game. I would love to try out the Fast Pac-Man using your code, unfortunately there isn’t a Machine like that around here except where my Step Grandkids play Bumper Cars there is a Original MS.Pac-Man & Galaga arcade machines. One more thing John if I should bump into the Anniversary Machine I will be putting your codes to work. Thank You 🙏 for sharing this.
Growing up I would play ms pacman and galaga at the laundromat near the corner store and at home I later got a plug n play Pac-Man. Going to keep an eye out for an old cabinet in the wild. Haven’t seen a classic arcade game in years
No barcades or retro conventions in your area? These days you kind of have to seek them out, but they're usually on freeplay when you do find the in them.
I love your channel, I had been watching you for a while, realized I had not been subscribed, so I did. Great work on all the content you put out. Thanks so much. I grew up with all these games, I was a teenager when the original pac man came out and it was gobbling up quarters left and right. So I am slightly older than you but still all of this is lots of fun. Thanks for all your content.
2:46 I didn't know you could take control with just 1 ship. Years ago I was shown to take control when the second ship was given. I have played like this on multiple cabinets and only got it to error once. Otherwise you can play until the end of the attraction screen (typically can kill everything on screen). Please note that the original firing and movements will be in play.
Cool video. I didn't know fast Pac-Man was in there. Makes me wonder what I'm missing in my Pac-Man Pixel Bash. The only "trick" I know ia the machine shows Ms. Pac-Man as available game when it's set up for free play.
When I turned 11 someone bought me a pocket book for my birthday that had “tricks and tips to beat video games”. It contained all sorts of secrets for Pac-Man, defender, donkey Kong, joust, omega race, galaxian, stargate, berserk and I think asteroids. I memorized every page!
Awesome. I have a vinyl LP from the '80s somewhere named something like, "How to Win at Video Games" or similar. Only talks about 5 or 6 games, and kind of just reads the instructions to you. It was a different time.
My favorite was doing the Pac-Man code at a bar/arcade in New York City and hearing the owner yelling at me. "How the hell are you playing Pac-Man!?" "Uh....it's a code.." "Great! If I would have known that I wouldn't have spent 800 bucks on the other one!" then stormed out of the bar.
Every arcade cabinet I have ever played with pac man or ms pac man all have automatically activated the speed boost cheat, which makes them fun to see play
Not too long after this cabinet was released, NAMCO released a 25th-anniversary cabinet that has Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and Pac-Man immediately accessible. This cabinet is extremely hard to find. As for the other codes, they do come in handy, but the codes can be made permanent by altering the games' settings.
I own one of these 1981 reunions. I have owned this cabinet since 2006. I did not know anything about the speed code. I did know the bug on the attract screen and the pac-man code. Something worth noting the speed code is more like a toggle code. If the machine is set for speed pac; mine is. When I put in the code it makes my ms. pac man and pac-man run at regular speed. So it changes the behavior from what is set in the operator adjustments.
On the old Galaga after the ships dock for double fire power you can move the ships with the stick (sort of) Its like if "it's" moving right and "you" are moving right it will move twice as fast. It "it's" moving right and "you" are moving left they cancel out and the ships dont move at all.
i came across this cabinet at a movie theater a few months ago and was really thrown off when i started up ms. pac-man and it was the speed up version. i had no idea about these codes, i just figured the cabinet was modded or something. i guess someone must have entered the code after they left!
If the cabinet owner takes the time, you can make some of these variataions the default in software settings, so that's more likely what happened, since the codes must be entered on the game select screen (after a credit). There's also an internal option for Galaga auto-fire (just hold down the button), but I can't find a code to turn it on any other way.
not sure if it is mentioned below but management has the option to set the game for the speed-up mode and entering the code will bring it back to the original speed.
I got the Tiny Arcade version of this game, the keychain size one that was a Cracker Barrel exclusive. If you put in that code it unlocks Dig Dug! Not the same but still a cool Easter egg
Does Galaga have the "enemies don't fire" programming of the original arcade after you get 8 shots to reach the bottom when they are wrapped around off screen?
I don't think so. The no-fire glitch ( ruclips.net/user/shortsfwwi2yj0EJk?feature=share ) was only in the first release of Galaga and fixed in the very first revision.
I wish emulators would get the secret Pac-Man sound correct. The dot eat sound is just barely different, but it seems they're just reusing programming from the original Pac-Man files
I worked in the Arcade Industry for many years and every location that I had these machines I would enable all these options by default in the Operators menu (Except Original Pac-Man as that was not an option)
It makes me wonder. In the 2105 movie Pixels, Peter Dinklage is accused of cheating in Pac-Man. At the time, people called it out that Pac-Man didn't *have* a cheat code. I wonder if the movie references this cabinet.

Hello I own this cabinet but I can't seem to get to the screen where you put the code in at ,my cabinet only shows the option of 14 different games to select
I have the Arcade1Up Pac-Man and Pac and Pal Combo Cabinet. Do you know if these 2 codes will work on the Arcade1Up Pac-Man and Pac and Pal Combo Cabinet?
I don't have them so I haven't tried, but if uses the "20pacgal" ROMset (rather than just having Ms. Pac & Galaga ROMs individually), then it should. Do those combos have the game select screen I display where you enter the codes?
When I played the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga game in an arcade, the Ms. Pacman speed-up was turned on by default. I think there is an option to turn it off because I prefer the original version of Ms. Pacman.
Where can I buy an new authentic arcade machine. When I search online I am not sure if they are really selling me a quality licensed professional machine or something like a 1up machine or hack with inferior hardware.
You do know you don’t have the original Ms Pac-Man Galaga 2000 arcade version the sound is no where close to the arcade version I own the arcade machine at home since 2003 the thing it does is let’s you continue after losing all your lives something this arcade 1 up can’t do
@@GenXGrownUp your talking about the Ms Pac-Man Galaga class of 2000 your making it sound as arcade 1 up released it perfect when they didn’t they have failed on other games such as the teenage mutant ninja turtles very first one putting the wrong theme song if you press the button while shredder or April speaks you won’t hear them don’t expect these games to be perfect yet I own arcade machines that take money cause consoles were failing back in the days if I had enough room I would of bought in every arcade machine but I bought the ones I liked the most if your really serious you want a great Pac-Man you would buy Pac-Man pixel instead that comes with 40 games it’s going to take arcade 1 up 10 years before they release you one that comes with 40 games

So are there secret codes in the pacman xl Costco version? It would be funny if you could unlock a Ms pacman in that game
I can't speak to "pacman xl Costco," but these particular codes are specifically for the Class Reunion cabinet and ROM image.
When I played the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga game in an arcade, the Ms. Pacman speed-up was turned on by default. I think there is an option to turn it off because I prefer the original version of Ms. Pacman.
If it's this Class Reunion cabinet, the code will toggle it off if it's on.
Do these work in two player?
You betcha.
How dare you not be aware of something 😂
I know. Reprehensible.
Will the codes work on the arcade1up version
No, A1U doesn't use the ROM for this machine, but rather individual ROMs from the various machines included.
Do the codes work on the new Class of '81 countercade?
No, the A1U units use individual game ROMs rather than the combo anniversary ROM.
@@GenXGrownUp Bummer. The picture is actually showing Pac-Man on the screen on a s1te that starts with E.
@@GenXGrownUp First i need an 80's montage & then a Gen X Grownup investigation!
You can play the attract 'demo' mode on the original Galaga.
Is that right? Cool. How/when do you take control? How long does it last?
@@GenXGrownUp Don't remember the deets but there was different ways to play it.
Does the Galaga Enemies Stop Firing trick work?
I wouldn't expect it to work on this revision. 🥲
Where can I buy an new authentic arcade machine. When I search online I am not sure if they are really selling me a quality licensed professional machine or something like a 1up machine or hack with inferior hardware.
Here's one. www.gameroomshop.com/products/namco-ms-pac-man-galaga-class-of-1981-arcade-gaming-cabinet-by-chicago-gaming-company
These Codes Are For Arcade 1up Class of 81 correct
Incorrect. Arcade1Up doesn't use the Class Reunion ROM, but rather a collection of individual ROMs.
Codes work in MAME.
Absolutely. MAME is running the Class of '81 ROM, so the software behaves just as it should.
You do know you don’t have the original Ms Pac-Man Galaga 2000 arcade version the sound is no where close to the arcade version I own the arcade machine at home since 2003 the thing it does is let’s you continue after losing all your lives something this arcade 1 up can’t do
What? This has nothing to do with A1U - all on the arcade machine.
I'm sorry, but you may be confused, @@samamir8765. I don't even mention Arcade1Up in this video - it didn't come up and wasn't part of the discussion.
You cheater! Lol
Can you really buy one of these games?
This is a real arcade machine, not an ArcadeOneUp?
Yep, they run around 3-3.5k new
There you go. geetarbube answered before I could. Just do a search and you can find places that sell them direct retail.
Thanks guys - too rich for me.
@@geetarbube My bro was lucky to find an NBA Jam for several hundred. This is another level of gaming.
The speed up version of ms pacman makes the game too easy . It’s so boring . Why is it so popular I have no idea . What’s the point of playing a game that is so easy
The modifier chip makes Pac-Man a completely different game. Long-used patterns no longer work, so it's a trade-off.
Fast shoot galaga is boring . Too easy
It's good to have choices.
