Back then, Honda was like Toyota today. That is the reason why Honda cars are absent since TXR 3. But their cars are available in the TXR spin-off games (Kaido Battle/TXR DRIFT/Kaido Racer series & Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix).
@Solid_Kris Yeah. I do hope this time Honda cars are coming to the 2025 TXR game as in the NFS Unbound newest update, there's Honda Integra Type R (DC2) featured in that game as i know so far. In fact, Genki did the scan model of an Honda NSX tuned by KS Route.
Yeah, I understand Genki circumstances back then which are the same reason for those yellow Hiaces, but no Kanjozoku-style Civic on the Osaka Kanjo was a scam!!!!!!!
Fun fact : One of the staff behind the Import Tuner Challenge cutscenes, Tetsuya Ogawa, was also brought over to help Namco make trailers for the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune arcade series since WMMT4. He is still credited as their (one and only) Movie Designer on the latest iteration of the game.

Great work on this video, I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to you giving your retrospective on the Kaido Battle series too if you ever do one. One piece of trivia that fascinates me is that they chose to make seperate entries for the NTSC and PAL regions with TXR Drift and Kaido Racer respectively, then released TXR Drift 2 which would make it the 3rd game in the Kaido Battle series.
im really looking forward to the newest txr, cars i love in hd, not all the modern supercar bullshit, but gc8's, r32's, evo's cars that are cooler to mod IRL. i think genki knows the racing games are in a flat spot and know they could blow out the genre as a whole with a new game that is built on a beloved series and gameplay. just gotta hope this isnt some investor revival to squeeze out as much money as possible from the ip before they lose it
@Solid_Kris just found out theres a rumour the game will be releasing mid next year. near my birthday which means i can use it as an excuse to take time off work to play
I think the only gripe I have rn about the new TXR is that the map is missing the extra Yaesu section on the C1 Loop, but doesnt have the extra Yokohama loop at the end of the wangan like in TXR3, meaning the new TXR has the 3rd smallest map in the series thus far (including ITC). While i think the Yaesu section being removed is kind of a shame, i can sort of see why, as it wasnt used for anything in TXR1 or 2, & in Zero was only used to chase around a couple of wanderers. Anyway i just wanted to point that fact out. Great video, you did a fantastic job :D
Also, there are some Genki racing games that you didn't mention, such as Shutokou Battle R, Kattobi Tune, & of course, Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix. They also developed the official Wangan Midnight game as well for PS2 (using game engine from TXR Zero), PSP (using game engine from Street Supremacy), & PS3 (using game engine from ITC). P.S : at8:08it's Eien no Justice by SNAKE HIP SHAKES band.
My focus was entirely on SB games. Shutokou Battle R from what i played seemed only like a slight upgrade over Tokyo Highway Battle, in hindsight i was very much wrong. Kattobi Tune REALLY REALLY seems interesting, and i might make a video on it and C1GP bundled together as the close circuit Genki game thing. KB games will also be taken a look at, dont worry, i WONT forget them I know about Genki WM games, and i do want to make a video potentially on the franchise itself, but i REALLY REALLY do not know where to even start lol.
Good job highlighting this series. I love them all and look forward to a new one. BTW txr3 there is a secret na boost hack and it's crazy good. Something to look into. Again great job 👏
You should give the Wangan ps3 game a spin if you liked ITC. Less customization of course (card system is awkward until you learn to like it) but a more challenging game built on the same engine. Even some txr bosses make some appearances if you complete story mode.
I shall not accept the TXR2 handling slander!! It feels tighter than Zero and is one of the most responsive handling Genki has ever put into the series (of course, it's not as good as ITC). The _"lift off gas to get grip"_ thing you mentioned in Zero is also in 2, just need to tune your cars right. Plus with the Dreamcast controllers having triggers, throttle and brake control is way smoother in TXR2 than in their PS2 games, with the side effect of it being able to be utilized by modern controllers today on emulators. I reckon the reason why your car understeer so badly is because you've worn your tires for the night (remember the game have tire and engine wear) and the car's tuning might be off; the game also never told you that if you straighten the wheel or countersteer when the car slides, you'll gain a ton of traction and grip back so you can safely drift through a corner and not get sent understeering into the shadow realm (it's still an arcade racer, genki logic). Personally I can hardly call Zero's handling an improvement over 2, it just made the punishment for messing up less atrocious so it's not as frustrating to play. Really the only real improvement it made is the graphics and replay cams, every thing else is comparable or worse. Car balancing? AWD has always been great, but in Zero they are so good that the other drivetrains are borderline unviable and undriveable, whereas you can still beat Unknown in a Class B FC RX-7 in TXR2 (nigh impossible in Zero). Progression? Now you have to deal with all the annoying Wanderers before you can challenge Unknown and start NG+, there's no sub-bosses and team members to discover so there's not much reason to replay the game either. The AI? God, TXR2's rubberbanding is already a nightmare and they somehow made it worse in Zero. In many ways, I just see Zero as a worse TXR2. Subjectively the menu is worse looking, the sound quality, while better, got this horrible compression that made the engine sounds muted compared to the crass but crisp sounds of TXR2, the game is somewhat more forgiving but also ups the BS, resulting in an experience that isn't any more fun than just gitting gud at TXR2. Very much agree that SB01/TXR3 is peak. But I also really love SB PSP/SS, since for the first time in TXR the rivals actually talks which really gives them character; not only that, they're also more proactive and make the world feels alive (i.e. you're not the only active participant in the world).
I knew i was going to get hate with TXR2. And i fully agree. I know that most TXR fans prefer 2 over Zero cause it did stuff better. Personally, it could be the bias as i played Zero before 2, but i genuinely feel like i didnt experience stuff in 2 like i did in zero (and i even did car fine tuning). I am sorry that your reaction on my opinion was bad. SB:ZOC is completely based.
I swear youtube deleted my comment. As i said. It will blow up only if i decide to not be stupid. I plan on not being stupid. So i am investing time and care into this channel aka "fuck it we ball" mentality kek.
I have 3 gripes. Camera needs more adjustments (camera shake is based), bosses have a lack of visual effects (dejected angel in txr3 having atmosphere shifts, etc.) and handling seems a bit too twitchy... Fix those and genki has a literally perfect game
I too never understood the handling in TXR2, It was only recently, I would say, 2017. After playing wangan midnight maximum tune for years. since the first version came out in the states 2004 - That I understood what I was doing wrong. Round 1 arcades in the USA, a lot of people would play their friends and walk away from the machine. Until the game timed out on its own. That's when I realized that the cars are extremely floaty going under 100km/h. So, it was in the spring settings that I found in TXR2 - that cars that handle properly at higher rate of speeds. Which increased my enjoyment with the game. I also am looking forward to seeing where this goes with the new generation of TXR. Now that Porsche is no longer an EA Exclusive.
In Zero, your performance would degrade over time. Something you could do is turn your boost all the way down while cruising then bump it before a race started.
That's unfortunate for the night riders, now that indie game has competition and it was clearly inspired by the Tokyo extreme racer, oh well for me that means there's a chance for more good racing games next year tho
Import tuner challenge? For that game you need either an xbox 360, or a good pc for the xenia emulator. Now i used the US copy of the game, but japanese copy is better as there is a translation patch that also fixes flickering issues on high resolutions. It doesnt have camera shake so that's a thing to know.
I played txr0 on the ps2 when i was like 7. Best game I've ever stayed up for 8 hours playing. Good times. Txr3 is the best game imo but txr0 has better car designs for rivals and music.
