My suggestion. I know companies bundle items, like the Roku sound bar. Get a Roku, Get a sound bar. The sound bar will last for a decade or 2. The Roku, or any streaming device, is subject to upgrades and will almost certainly be obsolete in 5 years. Don't lock your Roku into your sound bar. Spend good money on a killer sound bar, and perhaps even a separate subwoofer. Just a humble suggestion.

No mention of Paramount/Skydance gutting their television production operations, or did that happen too late yesterday? I wonder how much that will change things as they did a lot of work with others in the media world to produce shows on a variety of TV platforms (OTA, streaming, cable).
I’m a Football fan but I still can’t fathom paying the astronomical price that they want for the package. You can only really watch one game at a time and since there’s only two times it’s a waste for me. Last year my kid (student discount) did it $99 and this year I see it’s $199. WTF
Raising the cost of Sunday Ticket right before the start of the season is a yearly right of passage for the NFL. For years, DIRECTV would let you subscribe at a cheaper rate until the season began to catch those last minute folks who didn't realize when the season kicked off. It's predatory and one more reason why I no longer subscribe to NFL content.
Directv allowed people who didn't have a satellite to stream Sunday Ticket. I used to pay $299 a year, for every year have the service from Directv. Google did raise the price, but Google allows you to share your NFL Sunday Ticket with 5 family share settings found on RUclips.
....I'm sitting here STILL buying physical media (albeit mostly used). I stream stuff when I can but when I get frustrated - say looking for a particular movie that happens to be on a service I'm not currently subscribed to - there's a good chance I either own it or can buy it for less than a rental online....
Considering how Dish has dropped channels & then reintroduced them with greatly reduced quality and greatly increased prices, it’s little wonder it’s on the brink. DirecTV might be saving it with a merger, but I wouldn’t count on it. Perhaps SlingTV might survive.
@@Warp2090 Yes, it still exists. There are commercials promoting it on the networks, it has a social media presence & the app still works. I suspect if worse comes to worse, Sling TV might spin-off into an independent firm while Dish Network & Echostar go down the toilet.

My wife and I follow two different out-of-market NFL teams and have been ST subscriber for years. It’s expensive when looked at on a single-purchase basis, but it’s actually pretty cheap on a per-game basis involving two teams. To me, the bigger issue is having more games move to other streaming platforms. I’m concerned that is what will really water down the value of ST over time. What remains unknown is what, if any, effect the recent class action case will have on the structure and pricing of media packages. I know the settlement was thrown out, but I don’t think it is over. The guilt part is settled, and there’s too much money still on the table for the lawyers. They’re not going to walk away from this one until there is a huge payout - which will likely also bring significant changes to the ST model.
Luke, I have to correct something you said about the Fubo lawsuit. Whether the judge grants the injunction or not has no barring on whether or not they think Fubo has a case. The only way that determination would be made by a judge is if Venu filed a motion for summary judgement (MSJ) for the case to be dismissed. I haven't really been following the daily ins and outs of this suit but it's usually standard practice for the party being sued to file a MSJ within days of getting the official notice of them being sued. I'm assuming with it getting this far that's already been determined because usually when the plaintiff files this type of lawsuit they will also file other request with the court such as an injunction so this decision will just be about if Venu will be able to start or not and not about the legitimacy of the suit. As far as if the injunction will be granted, in my opinion I don't think the judge will grant the injunction because they actually can be made whole. The ultimate goal of Fubo's lawsuit is to allow them to offer similar packages without having to include all of the subchannels. There's a chance that Fubo could lose some subscribers but they could also easily gain them back over time especially if they get the right to offer packages without the subchannels at a cheaper price.
So what happens in a scenario, if they do not get cash to fund Q4 operations in time before Q4 starts? They have not announced massive layoffs yet as far from what I have seen. Q4 starts in October and that is less than 2 months away.
I think at some point down the road Direct tv and Dish won't be a thing. More and more people are going to free tv streaming like pluto, roku, freevee. And raising prices.
That's partially dependent on internet providers like starlink expanding the remote/rural areas service coverage where traditional cable companies do not or provide limited service. Until then, Directv and Dish still have a customer base.
It is unlikely that Dish, itself, will shut down in the near future from this bankruptcy, but since Boost Mobile and Sling are the future, those will get the lion’s share of resources. The satellite services are what will be most affected and will inevitably fail, along with Blockbuster and Hughes.
Question for Luke: Could you perhaps compare the accessibility of various streaming devices, testing out the screen reader functionality as well as magnification and contrast settings? This would be useful for blind people who may be looking into these devices.
I am legally blind and sometimes wonder how it works on different televisions as well. I use an LG which works great and I know Roku has accessibility options but other than that I don't know anything about them.
Honestly, I didn't even think DISH was still around... Mobile wireless as far as an infrastructure provider is a race to the bottom.... If they were to focus on budget satellite and a solid offering for streaming they _might_ make it...
I tend to agree unless they can offer a solid budget satellite offering for those who cannot get adequate broadband - that market is shrinking so it's probably best to compete in the streaming area.
You would like to think that Sling TV is salvageable, even expandable. But the cord-cutting pompom wavers on YT would love to see it shut down in favor of a certain streaming service. If and when Sling is tossed onto the scrap heap, this household will no longer be subscribed to a live TV streaming service.
The Sunday Ticket service is good. And if we can build our own multiscreen, that will make it even better. The best thing is, if you choose, you don't have to have a Live TV service to have it (even though it costs a bit more).
It's very overpriced, especially as the NFL continues to dilute the number of games available on Sunday Ticket that have moved to primetime or Non-Sunday days.
They should've used some funding to improve their satellite internet to compete with Starlink rather than invest in 5G infrastructure as a 4th carrier. The 3 wireless carriers already have a tight grip on the market. Unless they were able to have the funds to build out a vast network and offer cheap prices, they wouldn't even make a dent against the other 3.
Dish has been saying that they were gonna declare bankruptcy for years. Why don't they just shut down their satellite TV operations and focus on their sling TV streaming service and their 5g network? It could cut their cost greatly.
Dish 📡 and Direct...let it die....that why there will be more streaming channels...and service... if all these pay servers go...TV will be free for everyone...
