Best thing I ever did for my fridge was tear it out and put in a 12v compressor fridge. No flame hazard, no exterior vent, and it runs completely off my solar.
@@carolmaplesden916 Not sure exactly how much the fridge draws, but I have 1,000 watts of panels with 400ah of LiFePo batteries and the fridge doesn't make a dent in the available power.
@@carolmaplesden916 By the way, it's the Norcold N10DCSSR. Not cheap, but because it doesn't need the space for the propane flame tube, there is a lot more usable interior space. For me the safety and space were totally worth it.
OK I have to ask. Why do you suggest not putting a fan on the back of an absorption refrigerator for rv. Just found your channel it is awesome thank you. MrSmith
Can you do a video about refrigerators while traveling? I've heard two things. Obviously, I have an AC/Propane fridge. A dealer told me if I was traveling and wanted to keep food cool, switch it to gas and let it run during the trip. I have also been told it's technically illegal to have propane on while traveling. Is this safe to do? Or, would it be better to install an inverter just for the fridge? I follow racing circuits, so I move a lot.
My Norcold N811V 8cft manual says to move Thermistor left for cooler or right for warmer. What about operation on gas above 5500 feet? Have you heard of Dinosaur Electronics controls for high altitude?
Do the fans help or hurt during the summer months? I have seen where people have installed these and there fridge works better during the summer months.
I FULL time RV ... and discovered that my frig light was staying ON when I closed the door ... ordered a new switch (Dometic) and installed it, and it STILL stays ON... WTH? HELP !!
How cold outside before the heater can't keep enough heat behind fridge to make cooling the fridge ? Would placing a small heater behind help.. like 300 watt ?
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy thanks, maybe closing some of the bottom vent to slow down cold air blowing up the back of fridge and out the roof. I live in Canada and it's cold.
Yes that’s what I did after my piece of crap rv fridge went out, I bought a fridge from Home Depot for $300 and added a breaker to my breaker box to install the fridge, a whole lot more room, best mod I’ve done
@@raymencaldwell3854 That's the reply I was hoping for. I will do the same. Which fridge brand and or model was it you bought? Much appreciate your reply.
@@deancampbell8663 magic chef black, the reviews showed a lot of other people used it for their rvs as well, I made measurements before buying and I only had to trim a inch off the side for it to fit

how much solar does it take

@@jebediahkerman3946I had a norcold, quit working after a year, I switched to a residential fridge for 1/5 of the price with a lot more room
This is exactly what I will do next :))
Love learning new things after 25 yrs. of rv'ing. Moving the thermistor...didn't know it was placement specific for coolness.
What about if it’s hot out and the freezer is cold/ not freezing. The refrigerator is warm? And yes, the thermostats up high we’re supposed to go.
great video on the fridge, thank you. and nice misses....
Good stuff Todd, I never thought about turning off the fans. Do you know of a source for a thermostat fo the fans? Keep the good stuff coming.

During the winter months we want to make sure those coils are not getting cold air blown across the coils. We want the ammonia to vaporize.
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy thank you. So when it is 100+° a fan is ok?

I would like to see an episode on wiring up an RV frig to battery inverter for travel days when you do not want the propane on.
Hi Todd, Do I need to turn off my RV refrigerator after every trip? or during storage?\
Do you have a vid on the Norcold RV fridge not cooling in the summer? Thanks.
Great video but now I am motion sick for some reason
Hey Todd;; Love your techtips. Was wodering if you have a tech video on cleaning the tank gauge sensors..
We’ll add that to the list! In the meantime check out unique tank cleaner

So in the summer months the fans can help. It’s in the winter that we want some heat to stay behind the coils.

You shouldn’t have to go that far. Just make sure you’re not circulating cold air.

Can you tell me why our rv refrigerator is so loud it is a dometic brand. We have a mallard 2021 m251 bh.
